FamilyTree DNA has the best customer service bar none of any company with which I have ever dealt. Where else can you send an e-mail to the CEO of the company and have him return the answers to your questions with a phone call?I have been involved with FTDNA since 2003 and have ordered not only mtDNA for myself but friends and family have also taken advantage of the FTDNA projects to order Y-DNA and mtDNA tests for themselves. I highly recommend not only their Houston staff but applaud the University of Arizona and Dr. Michael Hammer's laboratory for their adherence to the quality of their results to their customers.

For many of us who have been pounding our heads against many brick walls, the Family Tree DNA testing service has been a God send. For family names that are so popular that a hit on-line brings thousands of names, the Family Tree DNA testing can cut through the data to get to a manageable level.

After 28 years of genealogy I/we hit a brick wall, a direct descendant agreed to test, and WOW it opened a whole new part of the family that we never were sure was ours. This service is great, and simple to do, no blood, only scrapings from the cheek...FANTASTIC! Of course not all tests turn out as great as ours did. You really should test when you are convinced there is a relationship and cannot prove it. But, who knows, its possible a random test could very well, given time, turn up a match for you? Don't run down the tests, get involved, read up on it, and possibly you too will hit pay dirt!

I started by testing myself at Family Tree DNA. I love to go to their website and see new matches. The results were so interesting that I have now tested almost a dozen people between family and friends. There is always something new to learn about human history. When I have questions they are quick to answer them.

Family Tree DNA has more tests available than any other DNA company and is always at the forefront of new DNA technologies.

I have ordered over 40 tests from Family Tree DNA and agree with the Better Business Bureau that they fully deserve their "Award of Excellence" for their outstanding customer service. Every time I have ever called or e-mailed the company, I am met with quick, helpful, and patient replies. I highly recommend DNA testing with this company.

Family Tree DNA is the Gold Standard in genealogy genetic testing. Every participant gets their own personal page and gets an e-mail when they get a new match. Matches are explained in any number of ways. There are explanations about haplogroups (deep ancestral clans) and even a map that shows where your matches oldest ancestors are located. They provide both e-mail and phone support, typically within a day, and both by qualified individuals. I've never had a bad experience with them and I manage 22 projects and have been involved with genetic genealogy now for 8 years. I've used all of the companies and there are none better, or for that matter, none that even come close.

I have been purchasing DNA tests (about 15 different ones now) for over 8 years from ftdna...a few times I went elsewhere and there was no comparison. FTDNA is not only a high quality operation that takes the time to make sure things are done right (inaccurate results can lead you in very wrong directions, so accuracy is a huge factor), but their huge database makes it possible to trace back decades, centuries and even millenia. No you may not find a named common ancestor with your matches (no company can promise this and if they do they are tricking you), but by comparing your family history with that of your matches----combined with knowing the approx. times to your common ancestors---you can identify your family's migration path over time. It is simply a fascinating process and after 2 decades as a "traditional paper" genealogist I've been delighted to spend the last few years taking this "next step." Finally, about price...there are lots of cheaper testing companies, but they do not give you the quantity of markers you need or the most appropriate markers and so are simply not a good value for the money. I know I sound like I must work for ftdna...I can assure you I do not. I"m just a major fan.

For a long time I was very concerned that my daughter had married a man who may have been a close relative, having our last name etc.

It required a family tree DNA test to settle this issue, learning that my daughter and husband are indeed related, my son in law also being my cousin, but relieved that he is a third cousin rather than a first cousin.

This was a fun thing to be doing but also a necessary thing to be doing to settle the issue once and for all but still wonder if I should call my son in law son or cousin.

I became a participant in the Family Tree DNA program in 2005 after being frustrated in tracking my illusive ancestors. Within a year I was informed by the company that I had at least five male cousins with whom I am closely related. Comparing data that I had with that provided by my cousins, I was able to narrow my research efforts to specific families and locations. No longer do I use a shotgun approach in my research by tracking every male with my family surname. My association with Family Tree DNA has proved to be a tremendous benefit in that I no longer chase my ancestors up the wrong tree. Pun intended.

I have purchased MTDNA and Y-DNA analysis for myself as well as many other cousins from different family lines from FTDNA. Because of this I have seen many unusual circumstances (unexpected matches and some expected matches that didn't materialize). In each case when I had a question about my results or analysis that was in work, I received a complete answer within hours and almost always within 1 business day. In several cases FTDNA has gone the extra mile to even rerun tests to verify results. Moreover, their web pages have lots of detail about DNA testing that will enable the interested person to try to better educate themselves about this field of science. Their customer service is outstanding and their quality assurance program has set the gold standard for the rest of the genetic genealogy industry. When their results have been cross compared to other companies results, they have always come out to have been the most accurate and most thorough.

Orders for DNA tests should always be placed within a surname project (by joining) as the prices are cheaper that way. FTDNA prices offer good value!!!!

In my experience, FTDNA is the best company I have EVER dealt with (not just in genetics).

I LOVE Family Tree DNA...I have found the company to have the best customer service over any type of company. As a result of testing with FTDNA, I have found many people with whom I share a common ancestor and together we are working on finding that common ancestor. I educated myself on understanding how DNA can and cannot help my genealogy. There is a lot of online tutorials and some very easy to understand books available. These have helped me tremendously, and I'm so VERY happy to meet all my new cousins and to prove my lineage as paper records are not always accurate. Genealogists have no better tool for their research. Family Tree DNA is superior to all testing companies!
