Ratings_icons Avoid until kitchen is open

froggy2

It was summer, on the beach, and the location is great, but we were told their kitchen was being remodeled, and only hot dogs & hamburgers were available. OK, all we wanted was a hamburger,we thought, but they came cold, chewy, tasteless, and expensive ($8.50 each, with a bag of dorito's on the side). In retrospect we should have not ordered, but it would have been better for the management to just say "sorry, no food, kitchen is closed" than to serve such disappointing entrees. I felt sorry for the waitress, you could tell she thought it was unfair, too.

Ratings_icons Sad that one person can get you SO down....

Mo22

This review is actually in response to the review posted by nicoleelizabeth. It's actually quite a bummer to see that you can let one person get you SO down. That was actually a really horrible review considering that the Wavehouse has SO many amazing things about it. So there was a rude bouncer?! Trust me when I say that it won't be the last time you run into one of those at a bar. I will be honest and say that some of the bouncers are very aggressive, but can you blame them? The Wavehouse has managed to keep their establishment family friendly for a reason. I'm sure the parents of the world are really happy that the bouncers have a little attitude; they need it to stand up to those "under 21" bunch who try to get an "over 21" wristband with their older brother/sister's ID. Ok, enough of that; let's talk about what's most important here - THE WAVEHOUSE! As already mentioned, this establishment is family friendly and has still managed to maintain the vibe of being that fun, hip, beach spot you really want to be seen at. The bouncers do NOT stand for inappropriately exposed body parts and will ask you to leave b/c they know that a 12-year old may be sitting at the next table. However, for those of you who have surpassed puberty, you will be pleased with the amount of skin that is allowed - (it IS a beach mind you). The Wave(s) are not only available to the public to ride, but extremely entertaining for those who don't dare. Loud fun music, moderate food, (when your buzzed, you won't care), a crowd to keep your eyes busy all day long... not to mention a few ways to get wet, the Wavehouse is a Mission Beach landmark and is one of the best spots on the beach. Parking can be a pain on weekends, especially in the summer. But trust me when I say - it's totally worth it.

Pros: Under 21, Outdoors, on the ocean, fun vibe

Cons: Can get really crowded.

Ratings_icons Bouncer was VERY RUDE!

nicholeelisabeth

I had my two teenage sisters in town visiting from Northern California. I thoought it would be nice to take them down to Mission beach to show them some sights and grab dinner at sunset. We walked around Belmont park and the girls noticed the people in the Wave pool at the Wave House and they wanted to watch the people surfing inside. We thought that maybe we could have dinner there and check it out. I wasn't sure if they allowed people under 21 in to the restaurant, as you can clearly see that there are a few bars in the restaurant. I walked to the door where there were 3 bouncers sitting. I asked if I could bring in teeneagers and the bouncer replied "you can if you buy food and drinks." I know that I might sound as if I am over reacting, but he was SO RUDE about it!!! His tone was VERY JERKY! I felt like the three bouncers were in excess and that they were clearly not intersted in business, otherwise they could have been more friendly. We walked away and we had dinner somewhere else because my first impression was so terrible. I will never recommend a place like this. Restaurants should be inviting and the Wave House is CLEARLY uninviting.

Pros: Location

Cons: Rude Service
