I went with a few friends and we had the Teppan. The food was great however it was a little pricey. Granted, most Teppan is not cheap but no other restaurants (I've visited) charge extra for fried rice. It may not seem like a lot at first, but with a group, it quickly adds up. Plus the meal options were already a little higher priced than any other place I've eaten. Because it's close to my home plus the food was really good, I will be back. Expect to pay about $50 a person after tax tip and soft drink. The front desk is a mess. We had to tell them four times we were there with a reservation for Teppan and they still sat us in a regular booth. Very unorganized and not friendly. I will not score the restaurant for that but if they do read these reviews, they should seriously retrain the staff. Oh and please, lower the music. We could barely hear each other all night.

Went for my friends 40th birthday and we had a great time at the teppan grill. The chef was fast and funny. He engaged the whole table and we had the best time.

Good, if not great Teppan cusine. The atmosphere is definatley fun and this makes a great destination if you're with a large group. Located right in the heart of Fullerton, so it makes a great jumping off point.

The 2,4,6 happy hour has great prices for Sushi and drinks. Mon-Fri 4:00 - 8:00pm. The Teppan grill is a ton of fun to watch with a group of friends or family; they put on quite a show. Sunday brunch is reasonably priced and has a decent selection of breakfast fare.

My husband and I have enjoyed dinner (usually sushi) at Chomps many times over the last six years. However, our visit there on Tuesday will DEFINATELY be our last! Instead of eating at the sushi bar, we setteIed on Tepan. I ordered the Under the Sea special, which includes both shrimp and scallops and. Durring service I commented to my husband that the chif didn't take nearly as much time to cook our food he usually does. While the food tasted great, about an hour after finishing my meal, I became violently ill. My husband has called the restaurant three times to complain and hopfully be reumburssed, but so far managment has just given him the run around. I mentioned my experience at Chomps to a friend and she said they use old fish and have been closed down by the H----- Department twice. Had I known early, I NEVER would have ate there!

Pros: Fun and up-beat atmospher

Cons: Old and undercooked fish!!!!!

Being from Japan, I know fresh and authentic, but this place isn't it. They try the Benihana technique, but the service I have received from the last 15 years has been friendly, however food quality I have to say they lack majorly. Try this for those who eat there: when ordering shrimp, try to see if the shrimp tail slips off the shell when pulling. If they break off easily, and not slip off, that just tells you it is old. I tried ordering traditional sushi, and I would say it is not even close. I hate the false advertising for those who try to sell you "sushi" they take decades of training, and when sashimi is more than a day old, they leave a shiny film that resemble a thin mother-of-pearl shine (check that out too!) I don't feel that they get how important fresh means to sushi and sashimi, and one can end up getting really sick from that, not to mention poorly selected fish can send you to the hospital, and I don't have the confidence to eat there any more.

Pros: Friendly service

Cons: Non-fresh food, extremely loud, insects in the restaurant

.

Went there for the $20 all you can eat sushi and thought it was a deal in the too expensive restaurant. Since they have many "rules" on how to get to your next plate I couldn't get passed the first. I could of paid $10 for those rolls at a small mom&pops sushi place. Our server was nice, only good thing I have to say.

OKAY, the parking sucked, we had to wait a bit for our reservation and the music was a bit loud, but once we got down we had the time of our lives! We had sushi first and later the teppen chef came out and threw rice everywhere and made me laugh so hard my beer came out of my nose! The scallops and filet mignon were perfectly done, and my friend's pomegranate martini was the best I'd ever tasted. KUDOS.

As soon as you walk in , your shoe's stick to the floor like some kind of glue. Probably to keep the customers from running away. Two Manager's are eating at the bar talking to a third about how it use to be at Rockin Taco, while customer's are waiting for a take out ,for 30 minutes. The receptionist had to appoligize for the wait 4 times during the wait and the dish called ceviche leaves much to be desired. Four thin pieces of toast that look as thin as potatoe chips and a mixture of fish that is mostly scallops in a sauce of Pace Picante Sauce with dried crab meat on top. Most strongly a candidate for Hell's Kitchen. The owner's would be served best by leveling the place and starting from the ground up. In this time of a poor economy and huge unemployment, you would think the owner's could do better, but I guess, one must employ family. Not to be tried again until you see a large sign that says " Under new Management". By the way, don't expect change back unless you ask for it and when you do, you are left with the feeling that they think they deserve it. Not exactly my worst experience, but I haven't waited 24 hours to see how it comes out.

Pros: They had air conditioning

Cons: everything

The service at Chomps was horrible. The waiters are rude, and the management does nothing to try and help the situation. They also harass their customers and I got sick from their expensive food. Their customer service alone makes me not want to go back.

Come here for the $25 Sunday brunch, for good selections of sushi rolls!!!
Ask the sushi chief for sashimi and they will give you!!
This is for seafood and raw sushi lover, if you don't enjoy sushi, don't bother to be here!!!
The only thing bad are the decoration, it seem old and need a real cleaning job!!!

I've been to Chomps on numerous occasions and the rolls are the best items on the menu. The tornado, screamin' O, baked scallop, and explosion rolls are my favorites. Go during lunchtime since it will be way less crowded. If you must go at night then do get reservations since the atmosphere is better at night. Reservations are not available on Thursday nights because of the all-you-can-eat-sushi night <-- Crowded, not worth it for $20 to wait for 2-3 hours. The Sunday brunch is $25 and you get way more for your money and some of the specialty rolls are on the buffet line. Service is good during lunch but horrible when busy. Overall, I still go there because of the food but avoid the 3 hour wait.

Cons: Service, waiting for table

.

This was the WORST dining experience EVER! They kept our party of 4 waiting over 2 hours for a table and then forgot half of my order! By the time we made the waiter aware of this, it was almost 11 pm and I was so tired and angry, that I just wanted to get the heck out of there. NOT the place for kids...total club scene with a bunch of annoying people yelling and bumping into you. And I've had much better sushi at local, small restaurants with much better atmosphere. Don't waste your time or money here..we went on their all-you-can-eat night, which is $20 per person and there's no way we got our $20-worth of sushi, both in quantity and quality.

"Lauriano is now living every restaurateur's nightmare. It can't get much worse than having your place linked to DISEASE-CARRYING crustaceans.
The county He@lth Department yesterday confirmed three more cases of LUNG INFECTION linked to eating live crabs, bringing the total to 11. All who have come down with paragonimus ate the live freshwater Sawagani or regal crabs at Riptide Rockin' Sushi in Mission Viejo or Chomp Rockin' Sushi in Fullerton. The parasite can cause a cough, chest and stomach pain, difficulty breathing, di@rrhe@, fever and hives.
Lauriano opened Chomp in 2002. His supplier told him about these quarter-size Japanese crabs that were a "must-have product" for any sushi place wanting to be hip. You'd get the younger, Sapporo-swigging crowd daring each other to eat 'em live right out of the jar at three bucks a pop. Those squirming legs tickling your esophagus on their way down to crab hell.
Although some people ordered them fried - or to take home as pets - it was the consumption live that made them novel. Lauriano would sell about 25 a week, which didn't make him rich, but certainly made him different. When he opened Riptide last December, the live crabs were offered at the sushi bar there as well. Riptide was a smash, Lauriano says. By July, it was doing 800 dinners on a Saturday.
All that changed Aug. 12, when the Register ran a story saying two people had BECOME ILL after eating the tiny crabs. The eighth graph identified Riptide, and we followed with Lauriano stating his deep regrets and that he would no longer serve the crab."

PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE! My friend along with 5 other people got food p0is0ning last month from the sushi because there's FECAL MATTER IN THE SUSHI. My friend was rushed to the hospital and lost 16 pounds from dehydration. He got Hepatitis A from eating there. This restaurant has closed down at least 2 times.

This is NOT a joke and I just wanted to warn people so that they won't get sick too. his hospital bill for 3 days was $15,000. SUSHI LOVERS BEWARE! Feel free to e-mail me if you need proof.

I've been eating sushi for over 25yrs and have had some of the best to the worst. This is just average.

The selection of nigiri sushi is passable (the basics) but not well prepared. I'm guessing that their rolls are better than their sushi, as most people seem to be commenting on them. The sushi hasn't been completely spoiled but it doesn't seem to have the freshness that's present in truly good sushi.

The teppan is decent but not exceptional.

The only real reason to come here is for the atmosphere. This is where you come to hang out and drink or maybe bring a larger party for the teppan "entertainment". The food is passable to eat with your drinks. I guess I have a much higher standard for sushi.

I've been to Chomp at least 10 times and I can't wait until the next visit. Generally you don't have to wait that long if it's an off night. Making reservation a few hours in advance speeds up the process. The staff is generally friendly. If you're new to sushi - don't worry. Ask, and the server will guide you in the right direction. The Explosion roll is amazing - it's literally exploding with flavor. This is a must try. They are usually prompt in bringing out your food, and the hot food is just how it's supposed to be - hot. And the the cold dishes (sushi, some rolls, etc.) are nicely chilled, not warm. It's great to go with a group of friends at the sushi bar, or if you're on a date get one of the tables off to the side for a little more privacy. And if you bring people that are a little less adventurous, they have more traditional things on the menu as well. There is something for everyone there. Chomp is my favorite restaurant. There have been good days and better days, but I have yet to have a bad experience there. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Pros: Sushi & Food, Service, Clean Restrooms, Atmosphere

Cons: Sometimes it can be a little loud, but that's just nit picking

.

I love this place! i come here at least once a week. Not only do they have the most entertaining teppanyaki shows, but the sushi is wonderful as well. This is definitely a great place to come with friends because the atmosphere gets everyone in the mood for fun. They have this great deal on Thursdays where you can have all you can eat sushi on Thursday nights from 8 to 11 PM for like $20 (maybe $25, I forgot). They also have a great happy hour Mon-Fri from 4-6 where you can get sushi for $1, hand rolls for $2, and cut rolls for $3. The best deal ever paired with great food + great music + fun = best place ever!

Get 5 to 8 of your rowdiest friends together and go enjoy a fun meal at Chomp! This place is a total blast. Good food, great signature cocktails, and a lively rowdy atmosphere make Chomp stand out from the crowd of more traditional Teppanyaki joints. Reservations for Teppan fill up fast (especially on weekend nights) so try to make your reservation as early as possible. Also, as my sister learned the hard way (on her birthday), they are firm on their policy of only holding your reservation for 15 minutes. If your party is late, you'll be seated at a regular table which means you'll be missing the best part of Chomp - the Teppan show!

If you haven't been to Downtown Fullerton - Get There! Chomp is our new favorite hang out. The sushi is unbelievably fresh and the place is so much fun. Budweiser Ken is our man! He makes every night a blast. You can (and should) request to have him cook your Teppanyaki table - SAKE BOMB! The place is crazy and loud but the food is off the charts. Our servers have been totally sweet and helped us out with all their unique sushi items the first few times we went there. Now we're pros ( @#%* Mother Roll is our fav). Great food - Great Service! We eat there 2 to 3 times a week since discovering it, we have never had such great sushi & teppan and we've eaten in a million of these type of restaurants. We strongly recommend it!

Hands down - The best sushi anywhere! Staff is great. Teppan Chefs are hilarious - lots of unique teppan choices. Great patio. The place is crazy busy so call ahead to get a table - sushi bar is huge and first come - first serve so we got in quick. Tornado Roll is SICK! (good) I haven't been yet but I've heard Thurs is $20 all you can eat sushi and it goes off!

Don't ever throw a party at chomp. They kept our party waiting for over an hour when I had made the reservations a month in advance and confirmed one week before and the day of. On top of it, the management was rude and irresponsible. They weren't willing to stick to the details that I was assured of. The food was average, though overpriced for the value. I'd rather go to benihana. And I hate benihana.

Great atmosphere, awesome chefs. The music is a bonus, every night is different theme. My boyfriend kept bragging about the Tornado Roll. I finally tried it and WoW... MMmmm... Good Stuff... If you seat at the sushi bar ask for Mike, he's really good. Kudos to ChoMp!

went here for dinner 1 time on a thursday. sat at the teppan grill tables. the chef was crazy fun and hilarious! there was fire, steaming volcanoes, saki bombs, flipping food into our mouth, and flipping food onto your dish. it was good fun. recommened for exciting birthday dinners! a lot of food compared to other teppan places i've been to.

All you can eat thursday night, get's loud & crazy but very fun. Other nights are more calm, food is fresh and tasty. Lots of fun new stuff to try, Sushi Chefs know how to treat a good customer. Big Sushi Bar, lots of tables. I have tried the Sunday Brunch, it was good...have to try it just once.

What happens when you mix fun music, some raw fish, and a bunch of crazy sushi chefs? Chomp is what you get! It has the fun atmosphere of your local nighborhood grill mixed in with some great sushi! The sushi staff knows how to party and will gladly do saki-bombs with you! Sometimes it gets a bit loud so its more fun than romantic. No waiting for the Wednesday night I went. Moderately priced items.
