I have been coming here for years now and they rock my super hero hair color requests without batting an eye, I do Black with Blue streaks like wonderwoman hair and they do a faboo job, for an awesome price.
Pros: Awesome color
Jen Perkins is my stylist, and she definitely knows what to do with very curly hair.
Everytime I've been to the salon she's been able to completely understand the cut I wanted, and perfectly executed it.
Jen understands how curly hair has to be cut and styled, she is able to invent a new style from scratch as well as refresh a previous cut.
I strongly recommend her work.
Pros: Great curly hair stylist.
The staff at Do! are very friendly and knowledgeable. The salon is easy to find and they have parking, which is a huge plus in my book. Plus I saved a ton of money over the service I used to pay for at the mall. I love my new cut & color! Thank you, Rebecca!
Pros: Budget friendly
I am somewhere between low maintenance and no maintenance with my hair and Rebecca was the first stylist to listen to me when I said that I needed a simple, easy to maintain hair style. She does a great job with my cut and color and I simply towel-dry my hair and add some gel to handle the frizz - no drying, no styling and no stress!
Pros: Rebecca listens to what you want and delivers every time
I have been going to Jen P for almost 7 years. I started going to her when she was going to school and then continued to follow her where ever she went.
As most women know, finding someone who knows your hair and knows whats good with your face is hard to find. This is the reason why I have continued to follow Jen where ever she went cause she knows my hair, knows what hair style would look good and I have NEVER been dissatisfied with any coloring or cut she has done.
When I first started going to her, I was never one to go outside the box on cuts or color. Jen understood and listened to me and never did something I wouldn't like. As time went on and the more cuts she did the more I would let her do what she thought would look good. This was mainly cause of me and my personality and uneasiness of going outside the box. Now anytime I get a cut or color, I let her do what she wants. She is very talented and good at her job and that is very hard to find!!!
I highly recommend Jen P to anyone in need of a great hair stylist.
Pros: Environment, Professionalism, Schedule
When I arrived at Do for my appointment with Jen, I had already spent 2 nights chopping at my hair. My hair is wavy, was long, and had not been cut in over a year. When Jen saw my hair, her reaction was 'wow, you really did a job on your hair'. It was a disaster and I thought sure enough, shaving it would be the only way to go. On the contrary, Jen had a good amount of ideas and ways to fix it while being able to keep me comfortable with a new short do and me wanting it to be a little funkier and still somewhat conservative. She was strong willed in knowing what were good ideas that I had and knowing what things she could work around to make me happy. Basically, she gave me the best haircut ever. It's not a cookie-cutter look, fits my needs, looks great, and I haven't stopped getting wows from people I know.
The atmosphere in Do is comfortable, which for me is important. Getting my haircut can be stressful, so being one on one in a small hip place was perfect. Also, times are tough, haircuts can be pricey and crappy or cheap and great. Here, the price is average and comes with an outstanding job.
Pros: experience & skills, environment, price
Gen is great. I began w/ her because she had enthusiastic online reviews. I came to my first appointment w/ photos & a rather detailed list of my likes, dislikes and even a few of my mate's comments. Some of the things on the list were contradictory. By the time Gen had finished w/ me, every point on the list had been addressed. I was really surprised, this was a new experience. I like more adventurous cuts and always need help w/ color. Gen is definely up to the task in both areas. Sometimes I have an idea and take a photo of the concept w/ me and other times I just don't have a clue. Either way Gen comes through. Because she really listens to her clients, I'm sure that she can also adjust to those who are more conservative in taste. The salon itself is really fun and relaxed and in a great neighborhood.
Pros: She's an artist
I moved over to Do! when my stylist, Jen P, moved from Blu to Do! She is great, I love how she cuts my hair, no more frizzies for me! She is very concerned about maintaining the health of my hair and not over processing it. I also think the salon is really cute and LOVE that it has parking. I highly recommend Jen P at Do!
Pros: Jen P rocks!
Wonderful, I described what I wanted and got a perfect flattering haircut. I love it. They know what they are doing!
Pros: Better than imagined, easy to manage!
I received a good cut from Rebecca (the owner) on one occasion but also received a terrible cut and terrible color on another occasion. My appointments have not started on time and the environment is not very warm and welcoming. I expressed interest in purchasing shampoo and conditioner and without shown any choices was handed a bag with the products in it without even given an opportunity to look at the different products they sold and discuss the prices. I'm sorry to say I will not be going back.
Pros: could get good results
Cons: could get really poor results
For all of you who have been seeing the wonderful Kristi Bullock at Do, she has moved! Beware of making further appointments at Do! I called and scheduled an appointment with Kristi, and they booked me with Kris, who is not to be confused with Kristi. They did not tell me she had left, and did not want to tell me where she had went to! I figured I would post this for all of her clientele and save you the frustration of trying to find her through Do. Here is her new location and phone number! She is at Akemi Salon 3808 N Williams Ste D,
Portland, OR 97227. Phone: (503) 542-5246. Cheers!
I have a few friends that go to Becky for their cuts & color & their hair always look amazing. I decided to give her a try & i'm totally hooked! Becky has done my hair three times now & I am always extreamly pleased! She really listens to what I want and really makes sure she knows what i'm asking for. I always get compliments on my hair cut and color, and am positive you wont be disappointed of you go see Becky!
Pros: Parking, Service, Becky!
I followed Lana to "Do!" when she moved there last spring because I have always been satisfied with her cuts & colors. I love the "Do!" salon too - great environment, fun, comfortable, and not to forget affordable... not stuck up or snooty, but super cool. I brought my boyfriend & she gave him a great cut too... I recommend her to all my friends. The other stylists are super great & nice too.
I have a hard time with most stylists but they are awesome, Go Do Rad! Lana was my stylist and she did a great job, kind people, relaxed artistic atmosphere and more. Check them out! I'd go again
I am from France, I have lived in Portland for 8 years and before finding this place, I have never found a Salon where stylists actually knew what they were doing. Yes that includes Aveda where I spent 3 hours in a chair getting told to make sure to remind her how thick my hair was for the next cut..which cost me $70...suffice to say there was no next cut and no tip either.
DO is the BEST place in my opinion. I have had Kris cut my hair once, she took me the same day, without appointment (I was about to cut my own hair) and she gave me a very cute shorter, manageable hair cut corresponding exactly to my style, my facial features and for less $35.
Amber Garrett is my regular stylist now. She is very friendly, very experienced and I am always 100% satisfied when I come out of her chair! She listens to me and she helps me pick a style corresponding to my hair type and facial feature.
Their products are great, the cuts are what I want, the music they play is awesome and all that under $50.
I don't personally color my hair but I have seen other clients have theirs colored and cut. Always great results in my opinion. Everyone is always smiling when they get their hair taken care there. Give it a go. Do it!
Pros: The stylists skills and friendliness, the price, the decor, the music, the location, free parking,
I'm soooo mad. I just paid $45 for a cut that wasn't what I asked for, and I didn't even get a shampoo. Kris was my stylist, and though she was not exactly cold, she was certainly not friendly and warm. She seemed inexperienced and in a hurry - she tried using a thinning tool that should not be used on hair with my frizziness-prone texure before I stopped her, and then proceeded to cut my hair after a quick rinse that did not include shampoo or conditioner. She worked quickly and decided to 'stack' the back of my hair without consulting me (I didn't find out until the end). The cut is not embarassingly bad, but is certainly not what I had in mind and definitely not worth $45.
I love this hair salon. I'm 62 and absolutely did not want to go the way of the blue-bubble headed old ladies. They understood completely and asked me every step of the way of they were doing what I wanted. And they did! The cut is awesome!
P.S. - I am not a staff person, just a very satisfied customer!
After reading so many good reviews about this place, I had to check it out. Unfortunately, it's not worth the hype. I got exactly opposite of what I asked for so now I have to go somewhere else to get it fixed (color was poorly done ? as a matter of fact, I've never seen such a sloppy job; and cut ? umm akh!). You might save a few bucks but if you have to RE-DO the DO what's the point? Now I am suspicious that the below five star ratings were written by staff members. I'm sure this review will follow by another five star rating ? hint hint.
Cons: bad coloring and cut
I asked her for a cut and she gave me something even better. I've always had long hair and decided to buck up and go with a short cut. I couldn't be happier! My hair looks great without any styling and for 35.00!!! Such a wonderful lady with true skill. Not to mention easy to talk to and very down to earth. I will be going back again and again.
Pros: cost, skill, friendliness
Cons: non really other than it's a little hard to find.
I've been with Amber G for 10 years now. I'm happy she's with Do Rad.
A word of advice... Let her do her thing. She knows what she's doing.
Tell her what you want and ask her for suggestions. She's intuitive with the scissors and she won't steer you wrong. She's professional, courteous, and she's got an incredible vibe.
Thanks for the great cut and style. I'm a fan.
Pros: Knoweldgable staff
So I read all of the great reviews and decided to give this place a try. Bad idea. Payed $35 dollars for a "haircut" and wound up having to get it fixed. Totally butchered, a mess of sloppy layers. The woman that fixed my hair at a cosmetology school was appalled and said it looked like a lawnmower attacked it. I lost a lot of length and money. The other sytlists at DO may be good, but only go to the one or two that are most recommended on here!!
Pros: friendly, cute place
Cons: BAD HAIRCUT!
Wow, as someone who is obsessed with my hair, I was amazed by their service. I saw Becky Dawson, and she colored my hair platinum blonde, with black and pink and fire engine red. At first i didn't want to follow her idea of putting the red in there but I did and the results were amazing! It's a very laid-back atmosphere, and the stylist's were so friendly! They have great recommendations for hair treatment and care, they really know what they are talking about. It's not a huge building, but the space provided has high ceilings and great decorations. Their space was very roomy. I could understand why really uptight and conservative people wouldn't like it but the people there aren't trashy at all, and they listen to you. I highly recommend this place for teens looking for great hair coloring.
Cons: Not finding this place sooner.
For a while now I have been looking for a place to get my hair done. I always see the great ads for DO! in the Mercury, so I figured I would call them up. Even though they were booked up for the day, they were able to fit me in at a time that worked for me; first moment of being totally awesome. When I got there I got my hair cut by Steven and he was amazing! He was super nice and really easy to talk to. He did EXACTLY what I wanted done with my hair. He cut my long hair to a sassy A-Line. The best part of the experience is that when it was all said and done, the cut only cost $20! For the time and effort he put in, he could have easily gotten away with charging me $60+. I am definitely going back to him in the future and I will definitely suggest him and the salon to my friends.
Cons: I didn't find this place sooner.
Do! is a great little salon. It is funky and laid-back...totally un-snobby. Kris Raja is awesome. She always listens to what I want and will take the time to help me figure it out when I don't know what I want. The prices are reasonable too. I tell everyone to go to Do!
Pros: good prices, really nice stylists
Cons: really small, not a lot of parking
Kris has been my stylist for almost a year now, and my hair kicks so much a$$!!! I get it bleached, colored, then cut and styled and definetly the prices are more reasonable than I ever expected for the amount of work and time put in. Kris really listens and knows what looks the best. Everyone at Do! is such great company and enjoyable to talk to.
Pros: Talented people
Both Kris and Amber are awesome stylists. I get compliments on my hair all the time. The atmosphere is cool and friendly without being sterile or pretentious. And they won't force you to go home with products you don't need. There's always a place to park and the rates are a friggin' bargain. I heart Do Rad!
Pros: creative stylists who listen, no pushy sales
I was looking for a closer place to go to get my hair done and was surprised I hadn't found this place sooner. I was able to get in the same day I called, which was fantastic because when I decide to cut my hair, I want to do it yesterday. I got an appointment with Kris and went in. I told her what I wanted and asked her if she agreed that would be a good cut, which she did; I'm fairly open to other suggestions though. She cut my hair and it was exactly what I wanted and it looked great! I'll definitely be going back when I need another cut; I will be getting color at some point as well and will leave a review for that as well.
Pros: Service, they really listen to you, price.
Cons: None that I can think of.
I have been utilizing the craft of Kristi for quite some time now and she always gives me what I want even if I don't even know exactly how to tell her what I want. She pays close attention to details and won't send you on your way until you're happy, but manages to make you happy in seemingly nothing flat. She also knows how to do color like nobody's business. I even got my fiance hooked on her. She is a super rad person and a great hair stylist, y'all should definitely check out Do! Kristi works Thursdays thru Sundays, so try to get in with her.
Pros: Great ambiance, awesome stylists, never leave unhappy
Cons: Seriously nothing bad to say about Do!
I have gotten great cuts from DO! All the stylists there do a really great job. I've recommended it to my friends and they love it too. Cool place, funky inside, good music and they'll offer you a beer!
Pros: Great staff, good ambience, professional
I just moved here from NY and I have had such a hard time finding the right hair dresser for my difficult hair. I went to Kris and she made my hair look amazing, I had no idea it could ever look so good. She has a lot of great ideas and her prices are reasonable.
Pros: It was nice to relax with a glass of wine while she did my hair. I liked the chill atmosphere too.
Cons: everything was good
If you are looking for a hair dresser, Chris is the girl for you. She created an amazing new look for me. I will never go to anyone else. She gave me a really fun cut that I never would have thought of myself. She also acheived the most perfect color for me. I highly recommend her!!
Pros: very experienced staff, great enviornment, Chris is the best
Cons: no cons, it was a good time and I am very happy with my hair.
I went to Do! on the recommendation of a friend, and now my husband and I will go to no one but Kris, (although all the stylists are wonderful). She is always on time, kind, and professional. We both have had difficulty finding someone who is consistent with our hair, and she is the best. Short, long, curly or straight, natural or colored--Kris is amazing with a pair of shears and I alwasy leave feeling awesome about my Do! The salon has a wonderful friendly feel, and the sound of laughter is pervasive. I highly suggest checking them out and having an extraordinary hair experience.
Pros: friendly feeling and true ability
Cons: not many I can think of
I have never had this much fun with my hair before. What is usually a nerve-racking experience for most women (the anticipation of the end result) has become a complete joy for me. Rebecca provides helpful criticism and fun ideas for me to fall in love with my hair-DO all over again. I have complete faith in her abilities to treat everyone that I send her with great service...I know that my clients look forward to seeing what Rebecca can create for them. I look forward to sending more people to DO. I love you to DO my hair.
Pros: Music, friendly staff, atmosphere
Found Do! on Citysearch, read all the great reviews and decided to give it a try. Got my haircut yesterday with Rebecca, and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I've never loved a haircut as much as the one she gave me. I swear she could read my mind, that woman! And then to top it off, the haircut was only $25!!!! :)
Pros: Talent, prices and free parking!!!
Cons: Not a one, in my opinion!
After sending my boyfriend here for a hair cut and liking the results, I decided to give it a try myself. I couldn't afford $40 and $50 hair cuts anymore, especially when I wasn't getting my money's worth. Thankfully, I met Kristi and she's been giving me fabulous hair cuts ever since for just $25. I have thick, curly hair and she always makes it look great; I get constant compliments on my cut. The stylists at Do! are friendly without being fake, and knowledgable without being pompous. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: staff!, next to coffee shop, location
Cons: small shop, product selection
I've been in three times, and every time is fantastic. Very reasonable, too. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable w/o being phony salon types, and they always play good music. Always. It's magic!
Pros: Friendly, not phony, good music
I've been to several salons in Portland, from the budget end to the high-priced fashionable ones, and I've finally found the perfect place! Rebecca always gives me a fantastic cut even when I'm not sure what I want. She also pays attention when I tell her what I like or don't like. And the atmosphere is just what I was looking for -- no sales pressure or snobbiness and the stylists aren't constantly checking the clock to make sure they don't spend too much time with you. It's tough to find all this, especially for such a great price!
Pros: Skill, Atmosphere, Price
I was feeling like my style needed a little punch and Kristi totally hooked me up. I got a fantastic cut and a spanking color that made me feel like a rockstar. The space is awesome and features super cool local artists. You can even have a drink while you wait!
Pros: price, friendly, good parking
I loved, Loved, LOVED this place! Kristi cut my hair a few months back, and it was the best cut I've ever received. I have stick-straight hair and for years no one has succeeded in giving me the texture I crave. I usually end up with goofy layers or harsh "steps" carved into my hair. Not so this time! I got exactly what I wanted and a tasy beer to boot! I even sat around and read a magazine after my appointment. The atmosphere is great, not all Euro-ed out; the staff was super friendly; there is parking, so you won't be circling the block while your appointment runs out; and the prices are realistic. I had a great experience here, and I'll definitely be back soon!
Pros: Talented Staff, Great Prices, Parking Lot
I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of the name, but that's the only problem I had with Do! I loved the atmosphere - very cool art and music (how often do you hear Mogwai in any commercial setting?). Kris is very sweet and chill and gave me exactly what I wanted despite my complete inability to articulate what that was. Great price, too.
Loved the shop. Loved the cut (and shampoo!). Loved the music. Loved the chair. Loved the new hairdryer. Rebecca is the greatest. Nuff said.
I went in just for a trim because I'm growing my hair longer and Rebecca did such a great job cleaning up the ends and making the grow out phase bearable. You can tell this stylist has experience and great style of her own. She is fun but also professional and LISTENS to what you want. The salon is loaded with great local artwork too so check it out. Another plus, is it's location and plenty of parking!!!! I'll be going back!
Pros: inexpensive, excellent parking, rad atmosphere
Rebecca just gave me the best cut of my life. Her location is just off Hawthorne, but very easy to get to and she even has parking! Good luck with that anywhere else in the neighborhood.
Pros: Style, Atmosphere, Parking
