Exclusive Bumble and Bumble salon is a huge bonus, but Melvin Burns is a pure Pro. I have tried to find the best blonde doctors in town and he is it. He gets it right every time, I won't let you make dumb decisions like cutting your hair short into a "mom bob" when you are pregnant. Jamie and all the girls are so nice as well.

Pros: Best Stylist/Colorist

Cons: There needs to be "2" two Melvin's...

I have been going to Jaimie at Salon Miel for about three years now, and I am still loving it. I have gone for short bobs, long layers, dark brunette, sun-kissed blonde, you name it, I've tried it and completely trust the work at this great salon to do whatever it is I wake up in the morning wanting and then changing it for me 6 months later when I get bored. Jaimie is wonderful and I highly recommend her work on all types of hair (she cuts my hair which is straight and fine, and she cuts my husband's hair which is thick and curly), but everyone at the salon is so nice and the vibe at the salon is very professional and polished yet totally laidback. They always have great recommendations for products but without sales pressure and are always great about booking appointments. Keep up the great work!

I am very picky when it comes to choosing hairstylist. I came in on saturday and had a haircut with Jessi. She was very friendly right off the bat, took my coat and made me feel very comfortable. she listened to what I wanted and never cut me off to tell me her opinion. then the whole entire time she was very easy to talk to and she ask me tons of questions about myself and genuinely interested about my life. her cuts and layers are very proffessionaly done. overall it was a really great experience and I'm gonna go back in January to get my hair colored =) ohh..not to mention all the stylist in this salon are trained in NYC Bumble n Bumble! So you know that you are in the hands of educated and experienced people...which means that your hair would grow out nice so that you dont have to go back to get your haircut until 3-4 months later. now thats what I called a great haircut!

Jamie is great! She did exactly what I wanted -- she really listened. I've been growing out a hack-job for 5 months, and was a little reluctant to get my hair "cut" again, so when Jamie sat me down, I expressed that I just wanted a "trim...for now". I have thick, curly hair but straighten it pretty often. Because of its' texture, there's no need to cut into it too much, but I guess the $90 stylist that I went to back in June never picked up on that. My "long layer" request turned into a tail, with a neck-level shelf where the layering ended.
Jamie really made my hair "flow" -- without much explanation. I always wanted to be able to straighten it, but wear it with a natural-looking wave. I finally have the long, flowing, wavy hair I was always looking for. I guess it's really all about the cut -- I mean -- the stylist!
I was referred to Jamie from another curly-haired friend, and what a find Jamie is!!
The salon experience was also great. Not pretentious, but with a highly skilled staff -- obviously!

I needed a last minute haircut for my wedding. I'm normally a "supercuts" kinda guy, but my future better half convinced me that if I was going to splurg on my head now was the time (plus she was footing the bill). So a friend of a friend suggested I head down to Salon Miel and see Teri. Let me just say Teri Rocks! First off, not that I much cared, but my hair was a little messed up. Years of abuse, stupid cheap hair dyes, bad $5 haircuts and yadayadayada. Teri was able to take the mess she was handed and turn it into a masterpiece-a! I had an idea of what I wanted and she was able to make it a reality. Teri was very cool, the salon itself is very hip, the rest of the staff is friendly, and most important to me the price was reasonable enough that I wasn't embarrased to tell my groomsmen how much I paid. MUY BIEN.

Teri has been cutting my hair for over a year now. When I first went to her, I had a very plain vanilla white-guy haircut. She set me up with a sweet style that worked great for the office when I wanted to dress up, but could also be more relaxed and fun on the weekend (and it is a snap to style at home every morning).

Teri is super cool and easy to talk to and I look forward to going in for each cut. She does a really relaxing mini scalp and neck massage that makes me leave feeling a little pampered. My girlfriend has also been to Teri for several haircuts--including for a wedding--and has been extremely happy with the results.

For guys, Teri does a free clean-up between haircuts that makes my hair look good for another couple weeks, meaning I can wait 6 weeks or so to spring for a haircut without looking scraggly.

The location only adds to the experience. Salon Miel has a very hip, cosmopolitan feel. The big windows let in a bunch of light and let you look out on the heart of downtown.

One of the reasons I first went to this salon was because they were so accommodating about appointments. I am usually able to get my hair cut during my lunch break. Jessi does my hair- she is really sweet and can do wonders with a round brush.

I have been going to Ledora for a while now, she's awesome. She does amazing cuts and color. I always leave feeling great, and she does a good job making styling easy. Love her!

I have been getting my haircut at Salon Miel for six months now. I was referred to the owner Melvin Burns through the salon coordinator there, Brent Scott. He assured me that Melvin would listen to my concerns and take them to heart. He was right and now I will never let anyone touch my hair other than Melvin. I always walk out of the salon with a smile on my face knowing that I have been treated as an individual instead of another number. Burns has built a successful business with team members Jaimie, Jesse, and Brent supporting his philosophy of excellent customer service. I assure anyone that ventures into the salon that it will be an experience that they will cherish, as Salon Miel offers a fun, energetic, and happening environment all the while being professional. I strongly recommend Salon Miel to anyone in the San Francisco Bay area!

I am new to the area, and citysearch, and have to say that I was very impressed with my experience at Salon Miel. I have been to a few other salons in the East Bay and down town San Francisco and can say that none of them compared to the enthusiastic and talented service I received at Salon Miel. The salons newest addition, Jessi, cut my hair and did a fabulous job. It definately is a testimate that Melvin is skilled at discovering new talent in this industry. She was very professional and took into account all the concerns that I had about my hair, made some possible suggestions, and amazed me with the outcome. I highly recommend this salon and Jessi for your future beauty endeavors.

Salon Miel is great! I went in to the cool location on Grant St for a hairstyle change recently and walked out looking forward to my return. I was totally impressed with the space and the entire staff. Everyone in there was friendly and very stylish. I got my hair done by the newest addition, Jessie, and won't look anywhere else for the best cut and color--which is really hard to find both in one place. Her foiling was great, my highlights and lowlights are better than most. My hair cut is flattering and most important to me, easy to do on my own.
I highly recommend Salon Miel and Jessie.

One always feels good when they get to go to the salon and Salon Miel is the place to be. I have followed Jamie for four years and have been a regular at Salon Miel from Union Street to Union Square! I have always been greeted with sincere smiles and enthusiasm. The environment is comfortable and professional. Jamie takes the time to consult with me and makes sure I am happy with her vision. There are conversations flowing between stylists and I feel invited to socialize. Jamie and Melvin are very personable and take pride in their clients and profession. They keep in mind details of my life and ask specific questions about me when I am there ~ I'm not just client number 14**8*.

When my appointment is over, I look in the mirror and feel better than when I arrived. With their new "hot spot" and my new hair style gives me a great excuse to get a new outfit. Thank you Salon Miel, I'll see you in 8-10 weeks!

Meticulous? Chic? Fun? These are three things that I did not experience at this Salon. I experienced horrible service and nothing but humility and belittlement. I witnessed other clients sitting silently while their stylist and the other stylists talked about their previous clients and who was Hot this month (celebrities) and who's dating who. Every client that paid and walked out of the salon was talked about and not in a nice way! Not only did I receive horrible service, but my hairtrim grew out as if it was chopped by a beginner with dull scissors! I am never stepping foot in this salon and definitely not recommending it to my friends or family.

I love love LOVE this place. I went in for a haircut and highlights and Rhian did a fantastic job. she was friendly, listened to what I wanted and offered her suggestions. She also always told me what she was doing and why before she did it just to make sure I was okay with it. She showed me how to use the products and style my new haircut. Rhian definitely knows what she is doing and I've been getting lots of compliments on my hair!!

Highly recommend going here!! Plan ahead and schedule early because the wait can be upward from 2 weeks for a weekend appointment.

I decided to give this place a try based on reviews and made a great decision - this place is wonderful: very friendly, nice relaxing fun atmosphere and Jaime is just so sweet and attentive and puts 100% effort in everything she does and what she does, she does great! I highly recommend this place.

I've been going to Rhian at Salon Miel for over a year. Sometimes I wonder if this salon is what keeps me here on the west coast! Rhian has transformed my hair with the most incredible and natural looking high/low lights and I always receive compliments when I leave her. Now when I come in for a cut or highlights, I tell her to do whatever she wants - I trust her! The girls (and Melvin!) at Salon Miel totally pamper me, even taking the time to style my hair to perfection, curling or ironing, or even treating with a complimentary hair mask. I absolutely adore this place and will be lining up at the door of their new gigs in Union Square. Thanks guys!

I have had hard time finding a hair salon to commit to because of inconsistently of quality or just sheet absence in quality in some places I tried but this place is awesome. Everyone is friendly and always in great mood. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing. Jaime is so wonderful: she always seems genuinely interested in what I want, always puts 100% effort in everything she does, and she is just fun to be around. Highly recommended!

Rhian's been doing my hair for about a year, and I always love it. She does the best color and blow out in the city. She seems to know exactly what will look great on me before I even know. I highly recommend her!!! The rest of the stylists are great too -- like friends. Fun atmosphere, and fun music too!

Melvin does the best cuts...I always get people (inclduing guys--I am a girl) asking who does my hair because it looks so good. Rhian also does amazing blow outs and highlights. My hair always looks so good when I walk out. Plus, it's like sitting with your best friends and chatting away. Highly recommended!

Curly hair is so hard to cut, and Melvin does it with expertise! Melvin has been cutting my hair for the last year, and I get a great cut, every time. In fact, I think it might get better, the more he cuts it. I am never pressured to buy product - because it sells itself. The salon is very non-pretentious, and Melvin will even sing when he gets going. I would recommend Salon Miel to anyone.

I first went to Melvin for a color consultation at the salon he previously worked. He then discovered the travesty my hair was in due to the previous stylist at the same salon. For the next five years, I only trusted Melvin to cut and color my hair. Although his salon is no where near my neighborhood, I faithfully trek to the Marina just so he can tend to my locks that he's worked on for so long! Also, Rhian is great at color and styling! The staff is wonderful and because I am one of their regulars - they like to joke with me till I am in tears and when they are super swamped - I'll help out! My cut and color isn't the cheapest, however it isn't too expensive but because of Melvin and Rhian it is well worth it!

I have been having Jamie cut my hair for close to a year now. When I moved back to SF in February, I discovered that the woman who used to cut my hair moved to NY. I met Jamie, and asked her to cut my hair. She did such an awsome job and is so fun to hang out with, that I've been coming back ever since. I recommend all of my friends to her and you shouldn't hesitate to check her out. She's a snowboarder too!

I've lived in SF for nearly 6 years, and bounced from stylist to stylist the entire time. While wandering Union Street, I ducked into Salon Miel and got a terrific cut by Rhian. It was exactly what I had been looking for. She was friendly, professional, and a lot of fun. She also suggested bumble something or other product, which I love and use every day. Definitely recommend Salon Miel and especially Rhian.

I went to salon miel for the first time a month or so ago and had a great haircut experience. Jamie cut my hair and was very in tune with what I wanted and knew what kind of cut would look good with my hair type. It was the best haircut I have gotten in a while and I would definitely go back again.

I called, a little desparate, because of a bad haircut I had received elsewhere. They were able to get me in on the same day and fixed my horrible looking 'do. Jaimie was fantastic, constantly trying to reassure me and making sure that I would be happy with what she was doing. She was completely concerned about what I wanted, and no pushing me towards something I didn't want. That doesn't happen very often. I will definitely be back and will never have another bad haircut!

I was due for a cut and friends had been urging me to consider some color. One friend suggested Salon Miel, so on a recent afternoon I took the plunge. I met with Sarah Rhian and she was great! I was a bit apprehensive about the color part looking natural, but she listened and we discussed the options until I was comfortable with my choice. Sarah and the others made me feel welcome and at ease, and they can sure make you laugh. Great experience and I absolutely love results! Definitely plan to return.

i've lived in the city for 3 years and i've been searching for the perfect cut and color - and finally i got it! jaimie is amazing. i have difficult long curly hair and jaimie listened to my requests and then introduced some of her own ideas....my hair has never looked so great. i've gotten a million compliments and i'm definately sending everyone i know to her! thanks jaimie!

It's not exactly the cheapest place in the city for a guy to get his hair cut, but the results are more than worth it. Trust me, I don't go anywhere else. Of course... don't forget to book a few weeks in advance! But I guess that's kind of a good thing.

I have never felt so satisfied and confident with my new haircut as was the day I left my appointment with Melvin at Salon Miele. The feedback that I received from my friends and even complete strangers made me realize that people recognize a nice haircut when they see one. I make sure I get into Salon Meile every few weeks for not only an amazing haircut, but a good time relaxing and hanging out.

Melvin is a master with curly hair! It is so hard to find someone who really understands - and LIKES! - naturally curly hair. Melvin is great about understanding who you are, what your life is like, and what your hair is like. In addition, he is a delight - funny, respectful, and welcoming. Everyone in his salon emulates this feeling, and I would highly recommend the salon to one and all.
