I have never had a problem with this vet. Dr. Jacobick is one of the best vets I have ever had, he really takes the time to explain things thoroughly and is loving and caring to the pets. I have 3 pets and they are like my children, as I don't actually have any kids and won't. Also one of my dogs is older and needs special attention and we always get it. I consider that we get great value for money and would recommend them highly

I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Jim Hicks and his staff at Spencer Springs Animal Hospital. He is a wonderful veterinarian who has provided compassionate, expert care to all of my animals for over 15 years (first at his clinic in North Las Vegas and now here), and I would follow him anywhere! I have never had any difficulty gettin the same day when one of my pets have a problem, and that is important to me. Also, the other doctors and his staff are very helpful and friendly, and the hospital is very clean and organized. I would recommend Dr. Hicks to anyone in Las Vegas --- he is the best vet ever!

I have started bring my dogs to this vet, and all the doctors there are wonderful. They even opened the office after they were closed for us because my dog had a seizure. Very nice people.
and Jessica at the front desk is amazing.
we love it.

When I first took my dogs there, they were caring and competent. Their service has declined. I found that some of the vets had a really lousy attitude. They didn't seem to want to be bothered and were borderline rude. I saw one vet, and then they passed me on to another vet when the initial vet got tired of of the questions or the dogs. My female dog is really sweet and usually gets very nervous at the vets or groomers. She cowers, her eyes get big, and she pees on herself. This has happened at several animal hospitals. At this hospital, she tried to attack the doctor! He was afraid that she was going to bite him! Her groomers, trainers, and other vets could not believe it when I told them. This vet made me put a muzzle on her. I wasn't really shocked since the vet's bedside manner was so poor.

Also, the founding vet, Hicks, seemed really bitter and impatient. He seemed angry, too, the last time that I saw him. On the flip side, I found some of the staff very friendly and interested in my dogs. The vets need to get some of that bedside manner.
I won't take my dogs back there because I do not want them to get upset for no reason.

I have been bringing my pets to Dr. Hicks at Spencer Springs Animal Hospital ever since it opened about a dozen years ago. He is the greatest vet on the planet! He correctly diagnosed a thyroid condition that my Golden had, which my former vet missed. Dr. Hicks has successfully treated my poodle??s allergies, and he also removed a large cancerous growth awhile back on the same dog and saved her life. When my pets have problems, I am always able to get in right away, and I know I am being charged fairly. Their staff is very friendly and helpful and the facility is very clean and welcoming.

I tried this clinic initially as it was most convenient to my home. However, with the exception of 1 doctor, it seemed like a "hustle and bustle" place....you were more like a number and they needed to keep you moving. I understand that clinics can get busy....I was a vet tech for 4 years. However, I feel I should give my honest opinion. The several times I took my animals there, I was shocked and dismayed. One time upon my request the doctor was checking a lump on my dog - without warning he just grabbed my dog jabbed the needle in the lump! My dog could have bitten him. Clinics I have worked at before always have either the owner or a tech restrain the animal - it's safer and more secure for the animal. Come to think about it, the doctor didn't seem to have a particularly aseptic technique in obtaining the biopsy as well. He left the room without a word, leaving me to figure out he was done and I had to manuever through the confusing hospital to find my way up front. Another time I sent a family member to get a microchip for their dog (thought it would be simple). They were so disorganized, all the paperwork, including the microchip tag, was never given to my brother. This could have been a simple mess up, but in conjunction with everythin else I've just been turned off of this place. Now, I go miles out of my way to another vet. It is simply not worth it to me to use Spencer Springs as my vet.

PROS: Convenient Location
CONS: Impersonal service

We used Spencer/Spings Animal Hospital for 7 yrs. and were satisfied with their service until about a year ago. It just seemed that they were getting so busy they didn't have the time to really devote to each customer like they used to. Our family dog was 12 yrs. old and had started having a problem with her hips. We took her in and she was prescribed meds. for arthritis. A couple of weeks later we noticed she was starting to develop a slight cough. We took her back in and the doctor said it was probably just a bad habit she had developed and she would most likely stop on her own, he never even bothered to listen to her lungs. About a week later I noticed she seemed to be taking very shallow breaths. I called the vet and told them her symptoms as well as the problems she had been having over the last month. The soonest the could get us in would be the next morning. That night she was up all night as she was struggling to breathe. The next morning we took her in and found out she had a large tumor in her lungs and would have to be put down. I feel that while the outcome would have most likely been the same, had the doctor just taken the time to listen to her lungs, we probably could have saved her a lot of extra discomfort in her final hours.

We took our first little dog to this animal hospital and loved the Vet, so when we moved back to LV in 2003, we took our new dog. What a change! Total turnaround in the attitude of the new vet. We won't be taking our dog back

PROS: None
CONS: Very uncaring.

Most of us has an animal part of the family and they are important to us like any family member is. I've found a clinic that feels the same way. They are cordial and try to stick to an appointment time as best they can. There are five vets in this clinic and I would feel safe seeing any of them. They are fair in their fees and do not run up their bill and do things just for the money. I can tell they are good because my puppy is always excited about getting out of the car when I drive up.

I have been taking my 2 dogs to this animal hospital for the last 3 years and have recieved nothing but the best care from staff and doctors. I recently had a dog pass away and the facility was compassionate and kind during this difficult time. The facility is clean and the staff is always friendly. I would never think of switching animal hospitals. After taking my pets to another animal hospital that was not accurate with the care that my animals recieved - I was SO happy to find this great animal hospital.

PROS: Great doctors and staff

I had to bring my cats here after they got an infection at another animal hospital. Everyone was so wonderful in caring for my cats. I wanted to take my cats somewhere where they loved animals and this place is it. They are great. I feel very confident that they will take good care of my pets, especially since my cats are scared of their own shadows. Everyone is always super friendly too, which makes my visit and my cats visit more enjoyable.

Pros: Very friendly and polite, love animals.

The staff here was very knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely want to help. Receptionists are very warm and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I won't be going back. I had an appointment for 7:45 am on November 20th for my dogs ear infection and a growth on the dogs flank. I arrived ten minutes early. I was told by a receptionist, Ill be with you in a minute. I was not told to sign in. That person got on the phone a for four telephone calls. Other people arrived and signed in and were seen first. I was left standing there like an idiot. I asked them why I was being treated rudely, why other people were being seen before me and that I have an appointment. I asked why someone on the phone is more important than someone standing there. If they consider it rude to refuse bad service then that is their opinion. I was told to wait and that the vet would be right in. I could see down the hallway that the vet was not coming "right in". I was told by the vet, Dr. Bower, that Jillian would call me within the next day. She did not call me. Dr. Bower did not call me back about the results of a test. He said he sometimes hears similar complaints about their own customer service. Dr Bower addressed the ear infection but did not test the lump-growth as part of the appointment until I asked him to. He took a tissue sample and never called with results. I called Jillian almost two weeks later and she said that the owner woman (the owner listed on their website is a man) said I was being rude and she accused me of being insulting. Jillian said she heard different versions from their staff. she said another dog was taken because it was an emergency. I informed her there was no emergency and I had a problem with not being asked to sign in and treated like a good customer, and that they take telephone calls over people standing there with money in their hands. Jillian admitted that she was not present and she did not witness the incident. Jillian continued to accuse me of being rude. In fact Jillian did more damage to my opinion of Spencer Springs than her receptionists did by their incompetence and lies.

Pros: You'll be treated like a rube - if that's what you need or want.

Cons: You'll be better served elsewhere.

I have two british shorthair cats 9 months and 5 months. One of them had severe stomach problems. Turned out to be a parasite and Dr Hicks and his team took wonderful care of my two kittens. Then I had to go back a month later as I had been contaminated with ringworm. They immediately did a spore culture test and 8 days later I find out the kittens are clean, but I need treatment. I picked it up off a surface somewhere. Dr Hicks and Dr Bower took great care of the cats and reassured me that my lesion will go away and that it can not be transfered to the cats. They are always so helpful and the staff is friendly, helpful and love animals. The hospital is one of the nicest I have seen. 5 stars +. Thanks so much for everything. Love you guys!

Pros: Extreme knowledge from all staff

Cons: I live 30 miles away, but go there anyway, because they are the best in town!

As soon as I walked into Spencer Springs for the first time, I was struck with how well ordered, clean and friendly the whole place was! The staff is welcoming and very helpful as well as the doctors. The wait time and prices are very reasonable. I would recommend this place to anyone and I'll never take my dog to another Vet.

Pros: Everything about the place.

Cons: Only that it's a little far from my house!

We had a terrible experience when boarding our dogs at Spencer Springs. I would definitely recommend proceeding with caution if you are considering boarding your pet here.

We returned to pick our dogs on the fourth day of their three day stay, and were told that one dog had a slight case of loose stool. When I inquired about the vaccines given, the charts were unclear, except to say that a vaccine had been administered to one of the two dogs on the day prior to our pick-up date. The doctor not only had no explanation as to why the dog had been given the vaccine on the third day of his four-day visit, he also was unable to tell me which dog had received the vaccine. The vet was apologetic, and admitted that there was no excuse for such an error.

Upon check-out, I ran into the person who was responsible for caring for the dogs during their stay. She informed me that Sam had experienced severe loose stool over the last day.

Once we returned home, Sam experienced three weeks of periodic, but severe loose stool. We returned to Spencer Springs to have him examined, at which time the vet prescribed antibiotics and anti-diarrheal meds. These medications were totally ineffective. After our second return to the vet following the boarding, we decided to look for an alternative.

It wasn't until we became desperate that we sought the help of a holistic veterinarian. We treated our dog with a homeopathic remedy to reverse the negative effects of over-vaccinating, and put him on a diet of organic baby food and organic brown rice mixed with acidophilus for two weeks. His loose stool completely subsided within two days.

The level of incompetence that we experienced forces me to strongly recommend against having your pet treated at Spencer Springs.

Pros: location

Cons: incompetence, failed to acknowledge pet's history of reaction to vaccines

Dr. Hicks is very fair. My dog has cancer and instead of giving me false hope, he has said that little can be done. My dog is a large breed and is almost 15.

Pros: Fair prices and will give you an honest answer

Cons: Office called me to ask me if my dog was better- he has incurable cancer
