Red Sea has been in business since the mid 80s providing authentic Eritrean/Ethiopian food. We provide the same quality meal that would be prepared in our home. We hold our self to the highest standard in introducing the unique family style meal to the bay area. Since the opening of Red Sea restaurant, East Africa cultural integration to the bay area diverse population was welcomed with open hand. Red Sea restaurant has introduced Eritrean/Ethiopian history and tradition in all aspect. Some of the cultures that we value and introduced to the bay area deal with family values as well as the idea of sharing a meal together. After 10pm, Red Sea opens up to our bar and lounge area til 2am. Reserve your own Private DJ Party in one of our banquet rooms for your next party. My friend, Meski, introduced me to Red Sea and I have been hooked ever since. Their service is the epitome of hospitality and the food is delicious. The vegetarian combo was perfectly cooked with just the right combination of spices. They're open late with live jazz on Friday nights and a bar/lounge open to 200a if mingling (or catching the latest international soccer matches) is your fort. The food is superb, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is unbelievably cool & welcoming!

Stopped in with a party of four. They're open late even on a Sunday, which is great. We ordered the vegetarian combo and a lamb dish...both were tasty but not the level of heat or complex flavor that I'm used to from good Ethiopian food. Still, since Berkeley is so far from me I never get to eat there and it was fun to try

I have friends who are really into Ethiopian food and took me to the Red Sea Restaurant on one of my trips to Northern CA. Very friendly atmoshpere with waitstaff that are great at explaining their menu to first timers. Delicious food.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here, and it was very nice. The food was tasty...we haven't had Ethiopian in a long time, so it was a welcome flavor. I'll definitely go back.

Wonderful restaurant

Red Sea Restaurant Eritrean/Ethiopian history and traditional food. It's the best Ethiopian food I've had. Catering is also provided for all Occasions. Bar and lounge area are opened till 2.00am you can watch sports in the bar, big scene television are also available. Live Jazz music on every Friday Night. EXCELLENT service, COOL atmosphere and QUICK service

my favorite ethiopian in the east bay

This is an authentic and friendly restaurant serving delicious Ethiopian food. It's the best Ethiopian food I've had in the East Bay because it is consistently fresh and the injera is not too dry. The staff is friendly with timely service, it's a nice atmosphere, and the neighborhood allows for easy parking/general access. And if you want to watch soccer and enjoy the bar scene, there is a little sports bar attached to the restaurant.
Pros: delicious, friendly, authentic
