Hooksetters is a great place to stay and getting better all the time. We've stayed there the last three years. Best parts: time around the campfire at night, flyout and Upper Kenai fishing trips arranged through the lodge with the best guides, and saving some time to knock around Homer, Hope, Anchorage and other towns and OH YES temperatures in the 50s and 60s in August when it's 110 back in Texas. Owned and operated by folks who will be your friends before you leave.

Message from Alaska Hooksetters Lodge

Fishing the world famous Kenai River is a dream come true for even the most discriminating of anglers. Each summer the largest native King Salmon in the world return to spawn in her glacial-fed waters. These highly prized Salmon challenge the most experienced of anglers, with many rewarded each year with a trophy catch over 75 pounds! The only river in the world to have 4-7 year Kings, the Kenai is truly in class by herself. The headwaters of the Kenai River offer trophy Rainbow Trout, reaching upwards of 20 pounds! Drifting through the upper Kenai River offers a chance to view pristine wilderness, as well as the best Rainbow Trout fishing on the Kenai Peninsula. Coho, Silver, and Pink Salmon also return to the Kenai River by the thousands, offering the angler a variety of fishing throughout the season.Lakes abound on the peninsula, offering Lake Trout, Kokanie, Arctic Char, and Dolly Varden. Many of these lakes are accessible by dirt road or a short hike. There are many, many opportunities to also take fly-out trips to even more remote areas with tremendous fishing and sightseeing opportunities.

More about Alaska Hooksetters Lodge

For the beginner as well as the expert looking for challenges in the saltwater, the Kenai Peninsula has it all! Surrounded by Cook Inlet, Kachemak Bay, the Gulf of Alaska, and Resurrection Bay, the saltwater fishing is some of the best in the world for halibut, in particular! Trolling the coastal waters of Cook Inlet for King (Chinook) Salmon near shore and then traveling further offshore (typically 12 miles) to fish for Halibut will give lots of action and some of the best eating fish around. Giant Pacific Halibut, the size of barn doors, are caught every year. They are generally in the 25-70 lb range with a few much larger ones averaging 100-200 lbs. caught occasionally.
