The Scene
An unassuming facade hides a dark, wood-paneled, white tableclothed club for steak aficionados. Gilded mirrors, brass fixtures with frosted glass tulip shades, and cozy booths create Old-World charm matched by the warmth and professionalism of the staff. Televisions above the bar are tuned to sports adding to the vibe.

The Food
The menu is a carnivorous feast interrupted only by salads, seafood and vegetable sides. Complimentary warm sourdough with salted butter and a jar of pickled red bell peppers and cucumbers prime the appetite. The lightly battered crab cake with honey mustard or the smoked salmon make good starters. Rack of lamb is tender and pink on the inside, well done on the outside. Choice cuts include the New York strip, the prime porterhouse and the filet mignon. Creamed spinach and corn sides pair well with all dishes. The brownie sundae and the banana nut rum bread pudding are satisfying finales.

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - Vodka on the rocks with blue cheese-stuffed olives is a favorite.

where's the beef?

by Felicia H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,784

If you LOVE beef...this is the place to be! Nice thick and juicy steaks cooked just the way you want it; rare, med-rare, or well-done...it's cooked perfect.

Its ok!

Not a fan of the messy, crumbly bread, but otherwise the steaks and sides were delicious. I even saw Vern Lundquist make an appearance. The people there are fabulous though!

any husband would enjoy

by Jenny S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,797

I was excited to finally be able to eat at one of the most talked about steakhouses I know. They have a fabulous wine menu and I enjoyed myself overall, but I would have to say I am not sure what all the hype is about.

Best steak and chops in Dallas

by Veronica L. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 850

It almost seems silly to write a review for Bobs Steak and Chop House. They have received excellent reviews from the Dallas Morning News, to D Mag, the Observer and on and on. All I can say is, it's the best steak and chop house in Dallas!

One of the top steakhouses

by Lisa G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,456

This has one of the best filets. The atmosphere is more big business with sports games on. Del Frisco's is a little more date friendly though the quality of both are phenomenal.

Stay away!

by ckb03

The food was terrible. My filet mignon was super fatty. My husband's strip wasn't great either. There are better steak places in Dallas for the same price or less. Hibiscus, Nick&Sam's and Kirby's are all SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

Cons: Terrible Food

Completely Confused

by motherfocus

I have been to many of the "best" steakhouses in the country and find that I am very pleased 95% of the time. Occasionally it's just a bad night or the food is not to my liking in general or maybe the atmosphere isn't what I expected. I see a LOT of negative reviews for Bob's, which confuses me. I dine at Bob's regularly because in my experience it is consistently the best steak I have found. The service is always pleasant and prompt. The atmosphere is a little over the top sometimes but you know that is possible when going to Bob's. I am referring to the Lemmon location of course. I can't imagine a reason I would ever go to Plano for a steak. Maybe it's just the culture that turn first time visitors off. Maybe it's expectations of a steak cooked at Outback. Maybe I've been lucky these past years. It is also a little confusing as to why someone would go to Bob's and order a ribeye? Who does that? Anyhow. Perfect steak all the time. I recommend Bob's

Pros: Fantastic steak

Cons: Noisy (sometimes)

The best steak I have ever had!

by spartyhoustontx

Wow! I traveled on business recently to Dallas and went here with my sales rep. We were late for our reservation because of traffic, but they got us seated in about 15 minutes after missing the time. The wine list had anything and any price range you are looking for including high end Cognac and dessert wines.

We started with the jumbo shrimp cocktail and crabcakes appetizer. Delicious! I lived in Baltimore for a year, and this is very close to the taste of a Maryland style crab cake. The shrimp were huge.

I had the bone in ribeye, and it melted in my mouth it was so good. Who needs kobe beef when you can get an outstanding steak this tender and juicy. The service was excellent.

I will go back every time I visit Dallas!

Pros: The best steak in town.

Cons: Not cheap. Go to Saltgrass or Outback if $45 for a steak is too much.

Service that is above and beyond what you could expect!

by LookatME1411

An evening here is well worth the drive into Dallas for us! We experienced service that was a touch above some of our other favorites. A great time all around and the steaks were perfect.

Pros: food was wonderful and the serviced matched the best out there.

Cons: long drive for us into Dallas on a Friday night, but well worth it! *****:)

Very good ribeye

by shinobi

I had dinner here on Tuesday w/ a friend. We both had the bleu cheese salad for our appetizer which was good. My friend had the crab cakes for her entre. It was served cold which I did not like & it lacked much flavor. I had the bone-in ribeye which was very good. It was very flavorful and more tender than usual for a ribeye, almost like a filet.

Pros: bone-in ribeye

Cons: crab cakes

Best steak in Dallas bar none!

by mastrmitchell

I don't care what people say about other steaks in Dallas, (ie. Pappa's, Nick and Sam's, blah, blah, blah) Bob's is the best steak period! Everything about this place is awesome. Don't listen to these other reviews. They probably went to another steakhouse and got confused as to where they were. The steak is perfection! A bonus is that the menu is not completely ala carte, meaning that all entrees come with the best carrot ever cooked and choice of potatoes. And as mentioned before they have great martini's. You can't lose here.

Pros: The best steak ever!

Cons: It's not free.

Lousy customer service

by 911fcm

I had stopped by earlier in the week to make reservations for my wifes birthday. The receptionist was very gracious and took all the information. When we arrived for our 7PM reservations we were seated quickly. Our server gave her spiel and left the menu's but told us she had a party of 25 which she was also serving. So we ordered our wine a glass of my favorite winerey in California and when that was served we ordered our meal salads and meat entree, I was surprised that it was cooked on a flat iron grill, I must admit it was well trimed so very little fat left on the meat. From that point on we were ignored as far as service was concerned, I called for the manager I told him I thought that the service was appalling and all he had to say was "I'm sorry" I reiderated that it was my wife's birthday but he had no comments. I told him that the menu represents service for the pricing which I did not feel we received and again all I got was "I'm sorry" as he hastily left the table. We ordered coffee and my wife was offered the standard dessert which comes with all birthday's. She chose the Key Lime Pie and it came with pastry instead of standard graham cracker crust, I have tasted better pastry from a super market freezer. I would not recommend my worst enemy to dine there.

Horrendous

by dukeblus

I spent a truly miserable three hours at Bob's last weekend. Getting it out of the way first, the food was good, but not nearly worth the outrageous prices. I have had many steaks every bit as tasty at less than half the price.

The evening was off to a bad start when valet parking was virtually required and overpriced. Even with reservations, we had to stand in a long narrow hallway, basically unable to move, for over thirty minutes waiting for our table. When finally seated, the room was akin to a roomful of jet engines. The four of us had to lean forward and cup our ears even to be able to communicate in two-or-three word sentences. My ears are still ringing two days later.

There was a VERY long wait for the food to arrive. The meat was very good, but none of us could begin to enjoy it because of the din.

When the check arrived, we were charged for at least two items which we had not ordered. Rather than protest, we opted to pay the bill and get out to the street where we could get a relief from the noise. A smaller bank account was a small price to pay for the ability to hear again, albeit still with ringing ears.

Anyone opting to "dine" at Bob's does so at the risk of their pocketbook, their eardrums, and the subsequent realization that far preferable options abound in the Dallas area.

Disappointed to say the least

by fireman77

I've read about Bob's being the "Top 5" steakhouses for years. So decided to try it one night. It seemed like a very hip place/atmosphere, but not very quiet b/c there was obviously a party going on with loud heckling and grunts in the private room. I ordered the filet medium rare and it came out with a blackend overseared crusted top. I'm used to having a steak "grilled" either on gas or woodchips. But this steak was just put on pan/flat surface cooker and over-seared. Then there's this 10 foot long carrot that has no business being there. Kinda looked like something else ifyou know what I mean.

Pros: Atmosphere, Mike Modano citing

Cons: Could cook a better steak at home with my fryer and a trip to costco

Mediocre and Pricey

by edrxpark

Some places are worth the money and the wait, this restaurant is not one of them. Living only two blocks from Bob's on Lemmon, I've visited the restaurant like a guy going back to his ex-gf, maybe this time things will be better. I think the ambiance is as upscale as a Steak & Ale and the service is average. One time I ordered a steak that came with a hockey puck sized piece detached from the main steak, cooked well done, and looked as if it were nuked in the microwave. I expressed my concern with the waitress who promptly brought the manager to the table. The manager acted as if I were being picky, but quietly complied with my wishes. I simply asked if I could get a steak cooked medium without the funny looking detached piece. Upon suggestion from the manager, I changed my order to their signature steak, the "Cote d'Boef," a large bone-in ribeye. The steak was brought out sizzling and hot, though when the manager asked that I cut into the steak to verify it was to my liking, it spewed hot bl00d and pooled up on my plate. So they went back and cooked it until it was a nice medium. Generally, the steakhouse operates well enough not to generate any complaints, although the food and service has been unremarkable the 5 times I've been there. Also, their steaks always leave me with a heavy and sick feeling...this is coming from a guy that loves to down a Lawry's Diamond Jim prime rib with wreckless abandon.

Pros: Can't think of anything that this restaurant does better

Cons: Ambiance

Horrible food, horrible noise

by nyintexas

We went to Bob's because of its review on city search. They couldn't be more wrong. The place was overcrowded, noisy and the food was horrible. I ordered a steak medium rare and they brought out a hockey puck. When I complained about it, they said thats how they cook them. It is overpriced, no ambiance, and not a good place for a quiet dinner. The only good thing is the cigar bar, which if your not eating is great.

Pros: good cigar bar

Cons: horrible food; noise

Frat party without the beer kegs

by ghand6158

Okay, they have better food than my fraternity in college, but Mi gosh it was LOUD! On separate occasions I entertained clients there and could hardly hear what they were saying because of the din. It was overwhelming, and affected our experience each time. Food overall not bad, service not bad, but the atmosphere blew it for me. For the prices we pay for a fine dining experience, in my opinion, it needs to be a bit more tranquil. Won't go back.

Pros: Decent food and good location for downtown life

Cons: Store is undersized for the table service they try to pull off. Result is a very loud environment

Living on their reputation

by emorywasp

Even with a reservation we had to wait 30 minutes for our table. Service was adequate, but not what you would expect for the prices they charge. Had to send one steak back for additional cooking. One steak was certainly not a prime piece of beef, as it was rather string like for a fillet. With all the steak house choices in Dallas this will not be very high on my list.

Cons: Long wait for reserved table, poor service for the price.

Simply the best...

by davidwwilson

I've had the pleasaure of meeting Bob Sambol several times and he simply has the best steak in Dallas...period. I always order the Fillet Mignon and it is large enough to share with my wife (and we do). The glazed carrot is awsome as are the signature potatoes with gravy. Dallas has many high-end steak houses and Bob's Steak & Chophouse rates as the best in my book.

Pros: Best Fillet Mignon and Porterhouse in Dallas.

Cons: Can't think of any

All around first-rate experience

by blundrigan

Bob's was recommended by the concierge at an upscale downtown hotel and I can see why. As a frequenter of Ruth's Chris and Mortons establishments across the country, I can say without reservation that Bob's is head-and-shoulders above those benchmarks. The service was first-rate, the menu was well rounded and the food was quite simply superior. I've seen reviews here that harp on the relaxed atmosphere and TV sports (both of which most humans prefer these days, by the way). If you can overlook those twin 'evils', the bottom line is that you'll get a steak that is as good as any in the Dallas area, if not the world, and you have a good time doing it at Bob's.

Pros: Service and Food are both first-rate.

Cons: Pricey, but no more so than any other of this caliber.

Overrated, Overpriced, Over and Out!`

by shadow1pr

Waste of money! Bob's is proof that airline magazine steak lists are paid advertisements.

Our steaks were fair, properly cooked but not of high quality. The manager never came by, service was average, and the food was not worth remembering. Prices were ridiculously high, the menu was unimaginative (menu and prices are online), and the atmosphere was dark and ancient. We couldn't wait to finish our meal and go elsewhere for dessert. When you visit their own website and read the reviews you will notice that most are 2-5 years old, maybe they were good once, but not now! We eat at high end steak houses often (Morton's, Ruth's Chris, etc), but even mid range chains, ie..Friday's, Chili's, Outback, and Saltgrass would have been an improvement on our meal. Save yourself the trouble , aggravation, and the $$, and go someplace else. Wish somebody had posted this before we visited!

Pros: Greeted quickly

Cons: Ambience, Prices, Quality

When In Dallas...

by brensten

...do as Texans do. While in Dallas a few years ago my wife and I took the recommendation of a cab driver and went to Bob's. We live in Tennessee and now try to make it to Bob's each time we're in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. We've tried the steakhouses at the Stockyards a couple of times but they just can't do it like Bob's. This restaurant is undoubtedly in our top 5 and we've been to several--Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Chicago, Nashville. You'll find a gracious staff and food cooked to perfection. They'll even go out of their way to serve you even if you don't have a reservation, as was the case of our first visit. Can't understand the bad review on the birthday meal but what do you expect from someone who can't spell fillet! And noise? Aren't all restaurants in Texas a bit noisy?

Bob's is reliable for great steak

by ChrystinP

We go to Bob's 4 or so times per year and have never been disappointed. I saw the other person's review of food not cooked to order and the bad service, and this is really out of character from our experience. We're usually seated within 15 minutes of the time our reservation is for (the more prime the hour, the more likely the wait). Our food has always been cooked as requested. The servers have always been prompt and unobtrusive. It is definitely loud. Steaks are exquisite and I never order anything else so can't comment on the other options. The only thing that comes with the dinner is a very large carmelized carrot and a choice of potatoes. Everything else is optional. Salads are ~ $7 each and are extremely large, can be shared easily. The bread pudding is very nice. Again, large portions of most of the desserts.

Pros: excellent food, excellent service, no smoking

Cons: very loud, must use valet, room temp uncomfortab

by thewelch4

My husband and I went to the Plano resaurant for our anniversary. We were expected a quiet, romantic dinner, but were seated next to a noisy party of about 15. The place was crowded, about 20 degrees below the point of comfort and our steaks weren't cooked the way we ordered them. The wait staff seemed very knowlegible, but for the price we paid, they should have been. Personally, it was overrated, overpriced, too noisy and crowded, and the food was nothing to write home about. I'm from Texas, too; and I would rather eat at Lawry's anyday.

Pros: knowlegible waitstaff, several locations

Cons: Mediocre food, Too crowded and noisy, Overpriced

I took my husband here for his birthday and was amazed that I paid over $200 for food not cooked to our specification and for service that was equal to Applebee's (sorry Applebee's) My filet was undercooked and I didn't see our server again until she thought we might want dessert. The atmosphere is loud. I think this place is highly over rated and I will NEVER return.

Pros: None

Cons: Poor Service, Average Food, Over Priced

Best place for steak (or lobster tail)!

by tmicland

Bobs is definitely at the top of my list when it comes to dinning in Dallas! I always enjoy the experience from the moment I walk into the double wooden doors. Bobs has the friendliest staff, and the BEST steak and lobster tail in Dallas, by far! Bobs also has an outstanding wine list! Highly recommended by a Native Texan, and we know our steak! ;)

Pros: valet parking, great wine list, best steak

Bob's is Great Everytime

by danjames

The atmosphere is lively yet very high end. The down-to-earth staff and the regular patrons are there to enjoy exactly what they knew theyd get as though they already know it's the very best steak in town. No question. This is a great place to celebrate a great event or have a very intimate, perfect meal. I travel a lot and try all the top steak houses and the food at both the Dallas and the Plano Bobs is by far the best and most consistent of any steak house Ive visited.

Pros: Consistent Quality, Lively, Accomodating

If you enjoy steaks that melt in your mouth or pork chops you could die for, I highly recommend this restaurant. They offer valet parking, reservations, and it's very romantic. This restaurant is a little $$$ and is NOT alacarte, which most steak places of this statue seems to be! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the fresh bread and pickles they serve as you are seated. If your not carefully, you could be full before you meal arrives!

Pros: very tender steaks, valet parking, reservations
