I love Family Dental. Everyone is nice from the receptionist to the dental hygienist to the dentist. My dentist always cleans my teeth and he does an amazingly thorough job. I have been coming here for over 10 years and it's been fantastic. Recently I moved away from the peninsula to San Francisco, however, I am still making the drive down to Family Dental... I will not change dentists!
If you want a place that has a very nice facility, state of the art equipment and only need very basic services (teeth whitening, minor fillings) then is the place for you. They have flexible hours which is a plus and is why I went to them in the first place. But what I needed were several root canals and crowns and the dentists there while helpful didn't seem to know or were comfortable doing these procedures. My first root canal there (after having 3 different appointments) was long and the dental assistant scraped the side of my lip by accident. The crown they fitted didn't even last me 6 months! Crown was lifting at the bottom and when they put it in you could still see the black part underneath. I ended up going to another dentist who had to entirely re-do my root canal and crown! If you have serious teeth issues this is not the place. Also, CHECK your billing. They charged quite a bit more and your out of pocket will be more than other places.
I have to say, this was the best experience I have ever at a Dentist office. I have lived in this area to over 40 years and have been to several dentists. For the past several years I have felt that my dentist didn??t really have my best interest in mind and decided to seek and other. As I was very concerned about going to a new person, my experience was great. The staff was extremely professional as well as knowledgeable. I can't believe going to the dentist was a pleasant experience. Since I have now found an office that I can trust, I can start caring for my teeth in the manner that I have always wanted to. Whiting, straightening, etc. This office is extremely qualified and has a quality staff.
Now this is a dental office I can trust. Family Dental Foster City did an excellent job with a tooth ache I had. I hardly felt that needle that I have a huge dislike for. I needed a filling that was in bad shape replaced. Another dentist here in the city said I needed a crown. Family Dental said my old filling had a leak and that was the reason I had pain. No need for a crown lets just redo that filling and be on your way. All is well now and I'm not a few hundred dollars poorer because Family Dental isn't out to milk a persons bank account dry with unnecessary work, they are very professional.\r
On my first visit they showed me all my teeth one at a time on a monitor so I could see what my teeth were looking like. Maybe I didn't need to see my teeth so big and up close but now I know first hand that my old filling wasn't sealed properly. \r
Thanks for being open 7 days a week. It really helps when you have a busy schedule like mine.
Pros: Open evenings and weekends
Everyone is wonderful at Family Dental. I have a dreadful fear of dentist offices but since I have been coming to Family Dental that has improved tremendously! I always tell my friends and colleagues how wonderful the dentist treats me! I refer to you when ever I can! See you soon!
Pros: 7 Day a Week
I'm horrible about taking care of my teeth and I was in so much pain this weekend. I frantically called around looking for dental offices that were open. Thank goodness family dental was open and they were able to fit me in right away. I can't believe they are opened 7 days a week. The girl on the phone was so sweet and understanding about the situation I was in. The Dr. that examined me was great also. I'm usually afraid of dentists but this dr. made me feel comfortable and was really gentle. She relieved my pain and I'm so glad I found this office. I would definitely recommend everyone to go to this office.
Pros: The staff
I have been going here for over 5 years now. They always keep their office up to date. Their doctors are very knowledgable and always explain everything very well. They are able to show me my cavities with large digital xray pictures. Even though I'm not a dentist even I can see the holes in my teeth on these large pictures. They are open 7 days a week. It is great to have a dentist that is open these hours. I remember when my old dentist was only open from 4 days a week. I always seemed to have a problem when he was not open. I highly recommend this office.
Family Dental is incredible. I went for my regular cleaning and they used this cool laser device called a Diagnodent. With this laser they were able to diagnose cavities long before they would have turned into root canals or extractions. The dentist was explaining to me that our teeth are a lot harder because of fluoride and it is a lot harder to diagnose cavities the old way. This laser device can somehow bounce light into the tooth and find these cavities when they are smaller and have not ruined the whole tooth. If your dentist doesn?t have one of these you have to show them this info. \r
The next cool thing they showed me was the small camera that fits in the mouth, which magnifies the teeth something like 20 times. They were able to show me cracks in my teeth, which was proof that I needed a crown to keep the tooth from breaking apart. \r
Then if this wasn?t enough they used some kind of digital xray that again increased the magnification in order to see the cavities long before you could see them the old fashioned way. I remember my old dentist pointing to some dot on a little tiny postage stamp xray and all I could say was ya I guess I can see it. With this digital system they are able to really show me the cavity.\r
This office really brings dentistry into the 21st century.
Several of my coworkers have recommended this dental office. I have always hated going to the dentist because of a horrible experience I had as a child. My insurance finally kicked in at work so I decided call in for a checkup. They were able to get me in on a Sunday. I didn't even know dentists were open on SUNDAYS!!!! \r
On the day before my appointment i got a reminder call, good thing cuz i almost forgot. They gave me directions to the office. Parking was a little bit tight, fortunately I got the last space. The girls up front greeted me with a smile which is new. Most of the time they just open up a small window and shove some paperwork at you. I was seated within 10 mins and pleasantly surprised at the interior of the office. That place is huge. My dentist and assistant were both very professional and listened to my issues. Told them my scarey dental history and we all got a good laugh. They promised that it would be different there. They used a little camera that took a bunch of pictures of some of the old fillings I had from when i was a kid. She showed me how a few of them had dark areas, what they meant and why they recommended replacing them. I must say that this is the best experience I have ever had at a dental office. They really care and left it up to me if I wanted to take care of a few fillings. The front desk people explained my how much i have to pay and how much the insurance will be covering. Not sure how they were able to do that so quickly on a weekend but they explained that they have about 100 other employees also from my company. I have an appointment scheduled next week to start with a few of them. I'll keep everyone posted to see how they go.
Pros: Awesome Service
Bad experience!!! I have a root canal retreated 1 years ago. first of all, doctor took over 2 hours and twice. after that it hurted me so bad for 6 months and I ended up still have the tooth pulled. The doctor is so inexperienced here. I should have just the tooth pulled and be over in 5 mins. But somehow I was lead to believe that a retreatment is good and i suffered so much...... This place sux and they just want to make money of you for all the fancy things they have in the office. Most of the treatments done here are unecssary or excessive. They make patients suffer at patients' cost. Dont be a succker.
Pros: if you like to wait
Cons: painful root canal and there after
I have been going to tis office for years. It is getting worse as I notice. I am used to see one doctor, now that I am seeing many new faces. Each time is a different doctors. They are not as honest as before, all of them take turn to ""convince"" me to do all sort of unnecessary treatment. I am kind of disappointed after having coming here for a few years. I am not used to these new faces and new changes. I think these guys are trying to milk me, they dont care about my teeth. They are all into their fancy office now more so than before. I am leaving tis office, its kinda hard after you are used to one dentist. But I think the management is moving away from being a family dentistry. its quite disappointing.
Pros: close from home
Cons: inconsistent care, too aggressive with patients
I had a deep cleaning done here. the first doctor scratched and cut my gum by accident. I was having some pain. when I came in for them to take a look at it, I was seen by a different doctor. She told me that I have infection or some leisons that can be dangerous and cancerous if not checked. She terrified me and send me to see a periodontist. When I saw a periodontist, she said that it was only a scratch from scaling my teeth. I was rinsing with warm salt water like what the periodontist told me and everything clear up. I have to go through all these non-sense when all they need was to tell me that it was an accident . I start to think that those guys are idiots and can not tell a cut from cancer. They totally missed diagnosied me and billed my twice also.
Cons: not experienced dentist
This office will succk you dry. when I called to make an appointment, they told me we accept your insurance and everything is good just come on in. After I had some work done here, I receive a bill that will take me over 6 months to pay off. Their inital estimation is way off. I was kind of upset, so I did a little bit of research. I call my insurance company and find out that none of the dentists here are network providers as they claim to be over the phone to get you in. The owner Dr Chan is also not a insurance network provider. After that, they will convince you to replace your old fillings. Then, they charge you on a fee that is a lot higher than the insurcane company accepted, when the insurance did not pay for most of them, they will pass the bill back to you. when they say they will ""maximize"" your benefit, they meant it, they will succk up all your insurance money in as little visit as possible plus sending you a bill. this is the basic scheme that this office is running. There are many shaddy dentists working with the owner to get you. It took me over 8 months to figure it out their scheme, including many phone calls to insurance company and their receptionists. On top of that, my new fillings make me so sensitive to cold now. I did not have any pain with my old fillings before. Consider yourself being warmed.
Pros: not knowing the cons
Cons: get ripped off
I came here for my filling appointment. That is the worsest exp ever! My dentist she is busy back and forth between patients. She constantly has to look for her assistant. I know she is trying her best to see everyone. But her assitant just keep on disappearing. what make me even more uncomfortable is that I can see across the room that there are a few other assitants talking and chatting. I can clearly hear their conversation about the weekend, the pay, the family and everything. But none of them seem to care to help my doctor. This is the worset leadership and teamwork I have seen. I work in an office environment and I just cant see how any doctor can tolerate this kind of poor teamwork. My filling took over an hour and most of time is just waiting for the assistant to come back to help my doctor with suction. Even though this place open on weekend, but just from the conversation I overhead accidentally, I can tell that many assistants are not concentrated and have their heart at work. Its kind of like filling the days. Even though I think my dentist is doing the best to help me, but I really dont think I can stand this kind of office. I dont think the assistants listen to my doctor too well. On top of that, after the long appointment, when I was checking out, my dentist need to excuse herself and went to look for a receptionist in the back. When the receptionist came, she seem to be having an attitude toward my dentist as if it was her luch break and she is being disturb on a beautiful Saturaday afternoon. I am in a managing positons in my office, the things I saw in this office, I just CAN NOT tolerate. There is absolutely poor leadership from my doctor and poor teamwork among the assitants. I read some of the reveiw. They talk about this new and beautiful office with satelite tv, but none of that matter when you are in the chair for dental work. I need my dentist AND her assitant to be concentrating on my teeth and work as a team. I wont be coming back.
Pros: exterior decoration
Cons: not caring and too busy to give you personal attention during actual dental procedure.
I have been going to family dental for a few years now. Dr Mathew is great. She has been very caring to my dental health. I previously seen Dr Boenay. I did not like him too much, he is very methodical but seem to be talking a lot about insurance covering and not-covering. I felt that he is about getting the most out of insurance. I dont really feel comfortable with him. I would not recommend him but I would recommend Dr Mathew. : )
Pros: nice office
Cons: too many doctors
Me and my partner Rob live an alternative life style in this wonderful bay area for almost 15 years. we've been to many dentists and we've been mistreated somehow every now and then because Rob can be flamboyant every so often. people do judge us differently.\r
But, we have a great experience here at family dental with Dr Bonin. He is just wonderful. He is very attentive to our needs. He is a great listener and he addresses all our concerns. Finally someone who we feel comfortable to go to. we are defintely be coming there for a long time. :) if you catch my drift. we love to refer all our friends and more friends to you, making Family Dental a happy office for all of us who also need a great dentist. \r
p.s. Rob loves to invit you to our aisa tour this coming year. His gut feeling tells us that you will have lots of fun swinging with us. His gut feelings are almost 99% right.
Pros: for everyone who feels rejected
I was referred to Dr Chan's office. When I visited family dental, I saw Dr Bonin about a year ago. since then he did whole lot of work on me. it was always something wrong, leaking fillings, fracture lines, and he even use this machine that looks for cavities and makes sound. When I went home to Michigan this summer and saw my real family dentist for the past 20 some years, Dr Coleman told me that the dentist (Dr Bonin) has been messed around with my teeth too much. He was way too aggressive. Dr Coleman told me that he has been seeing me and my family for the past 20 years. He did a total of 3 fillings on me and 2 fillings on my sister in 20 years. This crazy doctor not only took out the old filling, he put a total of more than half a dozen fillings and one crown that may not even be needed. I am very very upset. My family has trusted Dr Coleman for the past 20 yrs and this new doctor just went shamelessly after insurance and my money. \r
I am really really upset. I do not know how much money Dr Bonin is getting from the office to profit out of doing these way aggressive treatment. I really think the office should know about it or may be the office is also in it for the money too. \r
I cried so much when I was at Dr Coleman's office after comparing my old and new x-ray. This office hurts my feeling and trust.
Cons: getting more than you wanted
I found a dentist after many years of not visiting a dentist. Probably since college which was 3 years ago. Scary thought. So like any other person, I asked one of my coworkers. She mentioned how she went to Family Dental in Foster City. So I made an appointment. I had no clue what to expect but when I walked into the building, I was greeted and automatically felt like I was visiting friends/family. They welcomed me and everyone from the front office to the dental assistants were great! The assistants were prompt and seated me right away. The sentists and assistants were able to answer all of my questions and tell me what treatment I needed to have done first. The person that checked me out was great! She went over different payment options. That's always helpful when you don't make much after graduating. I will definitely recommend this office to my friends and family.
Pros: payment plans, awesome staff, service, office environment, too many to list...
I had a really pleasant experience at this dental office. I went in because they had a really good special and I don't have insurance. I ended up needing a nightguard and their financial people were awesome because they worked out a payment plan with me. I got my nightguard pretty quickly and there wasn't any hassle - everything was really straightforward - which I appreciated. The staff is really nice and I really liked their office - it's more modern - not like visiting a dental office still stuck in the 70's. I'll return and would suggest it to others as well.
Pros: financial plans, modern office, nice staff
I, initially, went to Family Dental due to the convenient hours. I needed to be able to not have to take off work, or use a half-day, etc..and this place is open Saturday & Sunday (yes, Sunday!) and is open past 5pm- hello! I also found out that I didn't have to make an appointment 8 weeks out because they have a lot of doctors who work there. Everyone was SO nice from the people who greeted me, to the assistant, to the doctor - who was really good. He showed me pictures of my mouth on the t.v. that is there in the room (really cool!) I'll definitely be going back & already have my husband scheduled. It's convenient, the people are nice & they have really cool little gadgets!
Pros: hours, staff, technology
Ive been a patient of Family Dental for over 2 years already and I LOVE IT! Ever since the first moment i stepped into the building, i felt nothing but welcomed and taken care of. I honestly HATE.. i mean HATE going to the dentist because of a traumatic experience i had when i was litte. But the doctor and assistants have always taken care of me. They not only answered all my questions (and let me tell you i am full of questions) but they also explained each crazy looking tool they used on me throughout the appointment to help clam me down.. man.. they really have alot of patience!!\r
The doctors and assistants are all very friendly, everyone always has a smile on their face. I also completed my Invisalign treatment just recently and i am so pleased with the outcome!!!! I tell all my friends and family about Family Dental because its such a great practice. From the front staff members who are very friendly, professional, knowledgable in maximizing your benefits to the doctors who are caring and love what they do... I would highly recommend Family Dental as a dental practice to go to. (Oh, and they are open SEVEN... yes SEVEN days a week which means not having to take time off of work!!!).
Pros: great office, clean, trustworthy, professional, specialist on staff, OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK!! 2 Thumbs Up!!
it took over 80 min to get my teeth clean. the waiting is just unbearable. I was dying to get out of the dental chair. too much sale, not enough care. thumbs down. visit only if you have time to waste and nothing better to do after work, no not have a job. not recommended for anyone who is effiecent and prompt in life. with all the waiting time, i cant help to notice that instruments have some white spots on them too !!!! OMG
This was the best service I have ever received. The front desk was genuinely nice- and my doctor was extremely intelligent and courteous. She explained my situation well and additionally impressed my girlfriend who also went in the same day for an appt. She has never had a dentist so attentive to her needs and that didn't rush her out in 15mins. She showed us pictures of our teeth which no office has ever done before with this neat little camera. The doc was able to word everything that made it easy to understand too. None of that doctor talk. They also worked well with my Delta Dental insurance plan to let me know exactly what they were covering and not covering. Keep up the good work. Thank you!
Pros: Beautiful clean and modern office, knowledgable, great staff.
Cons: Little tight on parking.
I went to family dental expecting to see Dr Chan. However, I was seen by a very young female dentist who is not Dr Chan. I was hoping that my dentist is middle age with some experiences. But my young dentist diagnoised me with over 10 fillings. She told me that all my silver fillings are leaking and need to be replaced by white fillings. She is very sweet but I dont think she is experienced and knows what she is talking about. Past ten years, I have routine cleaning by my retired dentist. I doubt that over ten fillings are breaking part at the same time and he would not see one of them. I call dental board and ask them about the situation. They told me that it is not the ""standard of care"" at all. I am pretty disappointed. I call the receptionists at family dental, they told me that Dr Chan ""does not see patients any more"" !?!!!? and i cant have an appointment with Dr Chan, but there are many other dentists that can help me. I feel that this facility is not ""family dental"" but more like a manage care office. very disappointing.
Cons: inexperienced doctors
Family Dental in Foster City is a fabulous office. Staff is wonderful from the receptionist to the dental assistants to the dentist. I never have to wait to be seen, your promptness is greatly appreciated. Your office space is always clean and inviting. The receptionist is always friendly and accommodating as are the dental assistants. The doctors at Family Dental are EXCELLENT. Very patient, they explain everything to me and are very gentle. Ironically enough I have a fear of the dental industry but your office helps me get past that fear. You are also very good about sending reminders and follow-up calls. You portray yourselves in a very positive manner and are really on top of things. Kudos to you all.
Pros: Great hours
I am George. My dentist retired after 25 years in the neighborhood. I have been to him or I shall say his hygienist for the past 20 years every 6 month. after his retirement, I visit family dental at foster city. my initial impression was very positve. I was seen by an older dentist. He is very kind to me. But i never returned to family dental after my first visit. I was diagnosised over 20000 dollars worth of work in my mouth !!! that is after 20 years of dental hygiene every 6 months by my previous dentist. all the cleaning means nothing.\r
Here, I am being seen by a dentist that is about the same age of my previous dentist, telling me how much work is needed. His hands constant shakes and he pauses after every sentence to reiterate himself. I see the compassion he has in dentistry and in my oral health, but I just dont think he is the right dentist for me. His plan is too aggressive for me. After being in sales for the past 15 years, I can detect the slight pitch that is being thrown. My father retired as a surgeon. He retired not because he does not want to work any more. He retired because he is not capable of doing what is best for the patients. last few years of his practice, I remebered hospital calls and papers work were drowning him. \r
I never return to family dental because i dont believe they are capable of doing what is best for me. Their financial setup is great, almost like going to a dealership with all kind of payment options and incentives. But, i just want someone who cares and clean my teeth every 6 months like my previous doc. I commended after reading about a patient's tooth was taken out by mistake and asked to have an implant. I feel that I shall share my experiences. Thus, thanks but no thanks to them.
Cons: way too aggressive
My experience at this practice is NOT so good. I have been seeing dentists on and off and for the most part of my life. Usually they are not too traumatic for me. most of time, they clean my teeth and maybe once a while i will get one or two fillings done. i have decide to visit family dental Dr Polly Chan's office for a routine checkup and cleaning. My first visit was ok. it was a little big shocking when Dr Boni told me that I have some cavities, they are supposed to be under my amalgam filling that he can detect but no other dentist have dectected before. later, he attempted to ""removed my cavity"", after about 15 min, he told me i have a fracture that is beyound repair. (please note that i have never had any problem before i coming in to see Dr Boni. I was not in any pain at all. i dont have any broken teeth and bleeding gum.) He extracted my molar that orginally was decay under my amalgam filling but now he said it was fractured and cant be restored. (somewhere along the line, there is no mention of trying saving my tooth with root canal or crown or anything. My molar was just removed and some ""artifical bone"" is placed. this is all after trying to replace my ""leaky"" amalgam filling.) He recommended that i should have implant placed now ???!!!! I am just shocked! This is beyound me. I cant believe that my regular cleaning and check up turns into an extraction and implant that would cost me over 3000 dollars. I have seen many dentists in my life and this is the worst i have encountered. Dont be fooled by the fancy setup. I wont be so suprise that every one visit that office will need tons of work to pay for their fancy setup. I am definitely NOT happy with it. Maybe, it is my bad luck but i just want everyone to know my horrified experiences.
Pros: beautiful setup
Cons: questionable treatment
Dr. Mikulic was most understanding and accomodating, explaining procedures as we went along - this alleviates any usual dental chair fears. The assisting technician seemed most knowledgeable and extremely helpful and sensitive to the needs of the patient - the best dental assistant I ever encountered at Family Dental.
Pros: Very Clean & High tech Office. Professonal & Caring Staff.
I've gone to varoius dentists over the years, but never stuck with one. I couldn't find a dentist who was able to make me feel comfortable and minimize the pain. That is until I found Dr. Matthews. She is the best and I can't say that enough. She genuinely cares for her patients and makes the experience as pleasant as can be. Since I've been seeing Dr Matthew's, my teeth and gums are healthy and never worry about going to the dentist anymore.\r
Dr. Matthews is the best!
Pros: modern, clean office with lots of TVs. Staff is friendly and helpful. You always receive an appointment reminder. Dentist are great (Dr. Matthews)
If you are in need of a dentist, your search is over! Family Dental was by far the most enjoyable experience Ive had at a dentist. I know what youre thinking, that enjoyable and dentist dont usually go together but Family Dental showed me that this is possible. The first thing I noticed when I went to their huge facility in Foster City was how modern and comfortable it is. All of the technology is totally state-of-the-art and all of the equipment is noticeably modern which immediately puts you at ease. And if you still have any remaining doubts about the practice, the incredibly friendly and courteous staff erases any thoughts of going somewhere else.\r
What really sold me before even going was the fact that they offered me appointments for before and after work and also on Saturdays and Sundays! That was unheard of for me because I normally have to take time off work to go to the dentist which I hate. I also found out that they are a have specialists like orthodontist, gum and implant specialist, and root canal specialist, and bridges and dentures specialist all in one facility. If the modernism and friendliness of the practice doesnt persuade you to become a patient of theirs, then their convenience will. They really set the standard for what we should expect from a dentist!
Pros: Super friendly Staff. Very knowledgable dentists.
I had not regularly gone to the dentist. Once in about 4 yrs is what I would do. I was moderately fearful, not over the top but very uncomfortable. I saw Dr.Micilic (?) and thought he was wonderful. I even went back for teeth whitening before my wedding and again to have some old fillings replaced. I was very fearful but they were all great. From being greeted in the waiting area to the scheduling desk and all the dentists, all are friendly and patient. I have now scheduled regular visits and will not hesitate to go. The office is always clean and beautiful. Each chair has its own satelite TV and they have late hours. Very convenient. I have moved but still go to Foster City for my dental visits.
Pros: Friendly, Great Hours, Comforting
They are open evening and weekends. They saw me on time and educated me on my dental condition and offered me payment plans in order for me to complete my treatment. I would highly recommend them.
Pros: painless, convenient, customer service
