Just about the best Thai food I've had anywhere. Take your own bottle and order family style. The panang chicken is wonderful as is the pad thai. Be prepared to take a little longer -- and tell your friends about it.

Pros: Excellent food

Cons: Can be slow

I love Mayuree. It's a tiny, cosy, somewhat romantic mom & pop Thai BYOB. Located in an obscure shopping center on Lancaster Avenue, they serve extremely fresh, well-executed Thai dishes and lovely, traditional Continental choices that are welcome for the less-adventurous diner or just because you have a taste for that sort of thing.

We typically order Pad Pug (Thai all veggie stir-fry over rice) and one of the Rack of Lamb preparations to share family-style. Soups, rolls and dumplings are appealing appetizer choices.

The menu offerings, even the Thai ones, are different from what I've seen at other Thai restaurants, and even the same selections differ (for example, Mayuree's Pad Thai vs. Pad Thai at other places). I honestly don't know Thai food well enough to know if that's a a difference of region, authenticity, personal style, or what. The chef worked in a Western-owned hotel before coming to the United States, so maybe that changed how she thinks about food. At any rate, I really like the food.

The owners are the only staff and they work really hard. He works the front of the house while she cooks; he's warm and personable. They really care about their business, about the food and about his customers, and it shows. If they are very, VERY busy, you could be in for a substantial wait because everything is cooked fresh to order. I find this normal -- we just talk and drink some wine -- but avoid arriving already desperately hungry.

Everything is very clean; parking is ample. Lights are low; lots of pretty things form Thailand including many many Buddhas. I consider Mayuree to be a stand-out value. Please don't make it trendy and over-crowded or you will just annoy me at my favorite neighborhood joint - just a nice steady stream of revenue so they stay there. :-)
