I took a few different cats to this place, and my experience was very bad. One of my cats was losing weight, so I took him in. They couldn't find anything so they scheduled an ultrasound, and called me with the results that he had lymphoma. That didn't seem right to me, so I said I'd like to wait a month and try again. Next month, another $300 ultrasound, and the results were exactly the same. So I said I wanted to wait another month. Another $300, and this time they said, oh sorry, it's not lymphoma. A couple of months later he was still losing weight so I took him in and said I wanted a blood test. They first said no, he had just had a blood test, but I insisted. It was only at my insistence that we found out he was diabetic. They then fought me about doing routine testing for him at home, which if I hadn't done, we would have overdosed him on insulin and killed him.

At the same time I brought in another cat who wasn't eating and losing weight. They couldn't find anything wrong. Two weeks later he died in his carrier in the middle of the night on the way to the vet. The vet we took him to just felt him and said it felt like cancer. After an expensive autoposy, we found that he did indeed have cancer. Why didn't Fifth Avenue catch this?

These vets are worthless and will waste your money.

I can't thank the 5th Ave Cat Clinic enough for how wonderful they've been. When my cat Meesha became injured and was limping I brought her in to see Dr.Bregman. He was very caring and thorough and was willing to set up a payment plan with me so that I would be able to cover the cost of the xrays to find out what was wrong. Not only did Dr.Bregman help me with a payment plan for the xrays but he was also able to refer me to an organization that was willing to assist with the cost of my cats surgery. In the end Dr.Bregman performed the operation on my kitty and I couldn't be more grateful! I know another vet would never have taken the time or the risk to work with me on covering the costs- and as a single mother in this terrible economy I'm not sure what would have happened to my baby kitty. To have your pet in pain and not be able to afford to help them is heartbreaking and Dr.Bregman was able to save me from that. My family and my kitty will be forever grateful to Dr.Bregman for his compassion and all he has done! I would reccomend this clinic to anyone in BK with a cat!

After I moved to Park Slope, my vet in Manhattan (Manhattan Cat Specialists -- amazing cat vets) called to forward my cat's prescription for her special food. 5th Ave Cat Clinic refused to sell me the food unless I brought my cat in for a visit. My cat has a prescription and does not need another check up right now. The receptionist did not ask for her records, or when she was last in for a check-up, after confirming with someone in the office, she advised me that they simply refused to sell me the food.

I was a loyal customer to the Fifth Ave Cat Clinic for about three years. Several months ago my cat had some complications and was in severe pain. I called the Fifth Ave Cat clinic to explain that I needed to get her in to see a vet asap. They told me that it was impossible to get her in today. I was told that they had no openings. I told them it was an emergency and my cat was in pain. They acted like they could care less and that I could bring her in the next day. I told them to shove it. I was extremely frustrated that they made little or no attempt to let me bring her in. I know that they could have rescheduled a routine appointment in order to attend to the urgent matter with my cat. There was not even an attempt made. That is unacceptable.
I also noticed that before this incident with my cat, the staff was getting worse and showed less concern for the animals and were not very professional on the phone.
Go someplace else that is actually concerned about your pet.

Pros: The vet was nice.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!

My beloved cat had FIP, and i took my kitty there because one of my friends worked as a vet tech there ( she actually quit because the doctor turned out to be a complete a.....). We took our cat for an ultrasound, and it was very important to us to find out the results ASAP considering the severity of the disease and the fact that the animal was suffering (we eventually had to put him to sleep). The doctor promised that the results would be back on Tue (the procedure was done Sun), however when tuesday came about the results were not it and we were informed that they were lost by the radiologist. Which later turned out to be a LIE. Just so it happens that the doctor forgot to send in the test on monday, thus the results were a day late. We paid 400 dollars for this procedure, VERY PRICEY, and he refused to give us even a portion of the money back. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They will take your money and not care about your animal. BTW, when i first told him about my kitty, he said "you should put him down as soon as possible, to prevent the other cat from getting infected." If he cared about anything else except his money he would have never said that!

Pros: the receptionist was sweet

Cons: the vet is greedy, too expensive, do not care about the emotional attachment to the animal

I boarded my cat for 6 days while away for Thanksgiving. The price of $25 a day seemed fine, until I told them that my cat needs a pill given to him twice a day, a task that takes two seconds as he is quite familiar to the process and does not give you any complaints. Because he is a ?medical board? the price more than doubled to $52.50 a day.Other boarding places charged an additional $10 for this service or it was included. But because it's a vets office and there are no dogs, I went ahead and booked it so that my animal would not be stressed. The closing time varies so I had to drop him off really early and was not able to pick him up on the day that I returned because it was too late. I picked him up the next day an hour after they opened and was charged the entire $52 for that day. I asked if that could be discounted and was told it is a day-in day-out policy. Also when I was on vacation I got a message from them, saying that the cat had an infected cut on his face and they wanted to sedate him and clean the wound and give him antibiotics, and this would cost me $370. I was very distressed by this and because I was out of the country I did not receive the message until the day that I was traveling back home. When I went to pick him up I was told that because I did not respond to the message, the procedure was not done, but that he was given antibiotics and the wound was fine. I did have to pay an additional $71 dollars for the vet exam and antibiotics. When I asked the doctor he just said that they get stressed and that happens sometimes. So I get my cat home pick him up to love him and he stinks of urine! When I went to get him I had noticed that the glass wall of his cage was dirty, so he must of sprayed the cage and they did not clean it. I had to give the cat a bath he smelled so bad. So all together I was not happy.I dropped off a perfectly fine cat and got back a stinky cat with a cut on his face that needed antibiotics.
