I went to Salon 54 for a color correction, cut, and deep conditioning treatment. My color looks good and the cut is solid. No issues. The prices were reasonable and the owner, Joey, is a very nice man.

I will say that Salon 54 is not for the snobby. I walked in and felt as if this salon was a little chaotic. One of the sinks didn't work, combs and brushes were everywhere, and the owner is short-handed. They **are** hiring.

All in all, Salon 54 is a decent place to go because the owner has a good technical knowledge of color and chemical services.

Joey did a great job with my hair... it's been two months now and the thermal reconditioning is still intact so far. Only problem is that Joey didn't tell me about his 25% off coupon for first time customers... pretty unhappy about that.

I didn't liked it at all..Usually the people who does the job should be real nice while explaining the job whatever the customer want and need more patience,but here i didn't find one who do that ,especially the one who owns only doesn't have that...I will not recommend this salon...Don't go simply by seeing the reviews..

This salon never has employees that stay more than a few months-that in itself should raise a red flag. The owner is nice enough most of the time, but I have also witnessed his temper. That is only one of the reasons I will never return to Salon 54.
Joey doesn't ask what you want-he tells you what he will do. The last cut he gave me was terrible-I asked for long layers and the hair at the crown of my head was cut to about 2 inches in length-I do not consider this long! This was back in early spring, and my current stylist is still working to get this awkward cut in proportion to the rest of my hair.
Joey has very reasonable prices but the old saying is definitely true in this situation..."you get what you pay for"
When Joey was doing my hair it would take me approx. an hour every morning to fix my hair. Now I am done in minutes. Believe me, a good stylist is definitely worth the price you pay--and Joey is not that stylist.

I have been going to Salon 54 for four years. The owner, Joey has been very easy to get along with, and most importantly, listens to my comments and concerns and turns out a great heighlight and cut every time.
My friends agree, as they remark on my hair after an appoinment, and have turned into Salon 54 customers themselves. The price is reasonable, what you would expect for excellent service, but nothing where you would think twice of paying.
I like the atmosphere of the salon, upbeat and easygoing, it is a pleasure!

I really like this salon. I went in to get my hair cut. My stylist was very friendly and very attractive. The location is great and being able to go in on Sunday's are great. I will definately be returning. There is nothing better than a great haircut by a attractive woman! Very reasonably priced.

At first, I was impressed. The girl I spoke to stayed after hours when no one else in the city could take me for a cut & color. She spent time with me and asked questions about what I wanted. Sadly, my brand new look (which was fairly drastic, but lovely) turned out to be longer on one side. I muscled through an event with it the following day, since I had no time to go get it fixed. Sadly, it was more noticeable each time I tried to style it over the holiday weekend. Upon calling them back for a touch up, I was spoken to dismissively by the owner/manager and offered an appointment the following day (which I could not make) or a spot with a woman whom he severely downplayed the talents of. I was made to feel silly for potentially being self conscious at another event the same evening and spoken to with an annoyed tone of voice. In short...after $95 services and a $10 tip I expected a bit better treatment. The location is very convenient to my home, and even though the manager attempted to call me back (in a pretty nice tone of voice the second time around) and offer a solution after the fact, I do not plan to return. I should have been treated right the first time I called.

I was disappointed when I made an appointment for Clare.. and I had found out that she no longer is emplyoed there.
Nobody notified me of this change! I only hope that I can find her in an other location. She was a really great hairstylist.

Be careful with this salon, because they specifically ask their customers to post reviews on Citysearch. Therefore, I don't think the reviews posted would be a good representation, because usually only the satisfied customers are going to go to the trouble to post. I was new in town and searched Citysearch for a good salon. This one came up. I did have a haircut with a middle aged woman, but was disappointed because she did not listen to what I wanted. I didn't make a big deal about it, but decided right then that I would never go back to her. When I was paying for my service and getting ready to leave, the receptionist gave me the address for Citysearch and asked me to go online to post a review (not knowing that I wasn't happy!!!).

I have straightened my hair for years with various results - a burned scalp, fried hair, and curls that inevitably came back as soon as I left the salon. When Joey explained the thermal reconditioning to me, I didn't believe him. It sounded too good to be true, and the price was way steep to be disappointed with the results. But halfway through my pregnancy I was faced with a decision: shave my head or try straightenening my hair again. I made an appointment with Joey, and he took care of everything. I was worried that the reconditioning wouldn't work due to hormonal issues, but it was picture perfect when Joey was done. And it stayed that way!! My hair was fabulously straight, shiny and healthy. It was worth every cent. I get touch-ups every 6 months or so, and I find that I use less product and my hair dries quicker. I used to spend close to an hour drying and fighting with my curls. Not any more. And I don't have to worry about the humidity, either. There is no product out there that can match what thermal reconditioning does to control that crazy North Carolina humidity. Get this - my hair STAYS straight when it gets wet, too. I could go on and on. Joey is wonderful. Let him straighten your locks, and no one else!

I have read all these customer reviews and really got inspired to get a cut and I kept hearing Joey this and Joey that... I called and he answered and was so sweet!!! He offered me several times to come in and best of all HE will be cutting and dying my hair. I am about to move next week to go live with my girlfriends in Texas and I have to go there with an awesome cut! I usually get nervous before haircuts but I am definitely excited... also it was reasonable pricing. With all the rave reviews I thought I would probably not be able to afford it but I can manage! I am so excited and I will Definitely! write a review when I get my new do:)

Joey Owens, the owner, is one of the few people in the Raleigh area that offer high-quality "big city' services such as thermal straightening and hair extensions. I have had both from him and he does a teriffic job! I used to drive all the way across town to see him! Also I can tell you that his prices are low- they may seem high for Raleigh but in major cities these services are 2-3 times more than what Joey charges. The staighteners last for several months and leave your hair feeling silky-soft and the extensions are so real- looking that it goes unnoticeable. I highly recommend Joey & Salon 54 he puts alot of effort into his business and it shows!

I had moved to the Raleigh area 2 years ago and had been searching for a good salon. My sister told me about Jean at Salon 54 and actually treated me to a visit! I was very fortunate to get a great hair cut and color from Jean. I was nervous to get my hair cut because I had grown it out to 1/2 way down my back. And I had been doing my own color for 9 months. Jean was very patient with me when she matched my color and talked about a new style. She cut my hair to the exact length I wanted (just below my shoulders)and the color was beautiful. l couldn't believe how wonderful my new style looked. In fact, the next day after I washed it, I was able to style my hair and it looked good. Not as good as when Jean did it but acceptable!! I am fortunate to have found this salon and lucky because it is near my home and work. Thank you Jean--you put a smile on this "mature" face.

Wendy was great! She really took the time to find out what I wanted as well as what would look good with the shape of my face. It's nice to find a picture in a hairstyle book and have your hair actually look like the picture when you are done! Great atmosphere as well!

Before coming into Salon 54 I was skeptical my hair could even be straightened. I have very tight curls that have never taken to anything I've tried to do with them. Joey reassured me he could get at least 80-90% of the curl out. After two applications of thermal reconditioning, he didn't just get 80-90% of the curl out, he got 100% out! It looks amazing and is a complete transformation. For the first time in my life, I can wear my hair down without having an afro. I highly recommend Joey for anyone who think thermal reconditioning may not work for them. It will! Thanks Salon 54!

After going to Wendy for a while, I decided to try coloring my hair myself in order to save money. What a mistake! My hair was a mess; dry, dry, dry. I called Wendy and confessed what I had done and asked if she would rescue me without scolding me. She said "come on in and I'll fix it." I had a heavy duty conditioner treatment and a trim to get the shape back and I'm happy again. I was going to call Wendy to tell her how happy I was when I ran across this website. This is a great way of communicating. So....Thank you, Wendy. Also, was I supposed to NOT wash my hair for 72 hrs. after the conditioning treatment? You didn't tell me anything about this. Too late; I washed my hair this morning.

Wendy did a great job on my hair, the cut was great and the color was great too!! She was so friendly! Everyone was extremely nice. Wendy listened to what I had to say about my hair and I was happy with my hair when I left.

I moved to Raleigh right after college so I didn't know much about the area. I searched for a hair salon on the internet one day and found salon 54. They seemed more reasonably priced than a lot of other salons I had looked at. Of course I was a little nervous getting my hair cut by someone new to me, but Wendy did such a great job. She made me feel comfortable and made sure she knew just what I wanted. Since that first visit to salon 54, I have had my hair cut several times by Wendy. She always does a great job no matter what hair style I'm in the mood for. Now I consider Wendy as my own reliable hair stylist. She is awesome!

Im new to the area and decided to look online for high rated salons. The first one I went to was great, but an hour& a half drive...not exactly worth it. or so I thought. Salon 54 was a half hour drive and had impressing reviews, so my mom and I decided to try the place. I have been dying my hair blonde now for about 6 years, and had recently gone back to my natural color. This was made clear over the phone and I was promised I would be satisfied and it would be no issue to do so. We arrive to the salon, and I have a photo of the hair color I desire. I made it clear I wanted blonde hair, not gold. In all fairness I was told I wouldnt get my hair back as blonde as it was, but I was promised to be satisfied and to be blonde. When my foils were rinsed I could already tell by looking at my wet hair that I was NOT blonde. The stylist then proceeded to put a toner on my hair, this was my last hope. 3 hours later I had this....Golden shade to my hair...seriously! I even had comments on my "Honey/Gold" hair after leaving the salon. The only reason I didnt make a big deal right away was because I was told it would continue to get lighter...NOT! i'm pretty reasonable and really hate to hurt anyones feelings but I was very unhappy with my hair. My mom called her stylist at the salon(Who I might add did a WONDERFUL job on her hair) and we were promised we'd be called back. Never heard a word! My hair has only been messed up once that I can remember and the salon fixed my hair free of charge. I never even heard a word back! Not only was I unsatisfied with my hair but I am disappointed in the service when I was assured over and over again I would be very satisfied. I took the hour and a half drive a week later to get my hair fixed at the salon I went to in the first place, and its still not fully recovered. It was even cheaper for me to fix it! I don't want to take away from what the salon does have, because my moms hair is fabulous. I was just unlucky&won't be returning here.

I was unhappy with my stylist of a few years and came across Salon 54 on this website and decided to give it a try. From the beginning, Joey was extremely friendly and made me feel comfortable in the chair- literally, by offering me a drink! He is very honest, friendly and enjoys his work. He will listen to what you want and will offer advice and suggestions (even with pictures if you ask for it).

Once I had a friend in from out of town who needed a cut and color very last minute...he squeezed her in and her hair turned out wonderful! The other stylists are very good too, and one even helped me at the last minute to get together my look for halloween!

Even if things don't turn out the way you want, Joey will work with you to fix the problem. One time we made my hair too blonde and he sat with me for four hours to fix it, and even took me out to dinner afterwards because he felt bad.

The salon is aesthetically pleasing, but not stuffy, and you definitely don't feel like you are being judged by the workers or clients as you do at some other places. I have carried around Salon 54 business cards for years and constantly refer friends.

I will be moving soon and will miss Joey dearly! I definitely recommend Salon 54 for a fairly inexpensive, unpretentious salon experience.

I go to Joey every 5 - 6 months for my thermal reconditioning / touchups. I'm so happy to have such a great hair stylist/resource in the Triangle area. My hair is curly/frizzy but also on the thin side. The thermal reconditioning gives me new style options and the ease of knowing I can wash and then go; my hair needs very minimal styling after the thermal and no frizzies at all. The hardest part of the whole process is waiting 72 hrs after treatment to wash my hair.

Joey is a talented stylist and a very nice man. The atmosphere at Salon 54 is relaxed. I highly recommend Salon 54.

In nature, my review for this salon would be that it's simply amazing! The boss and staff interacted pleasantly to me, and we got to talk like I was their real friend rather then just a client. Many other salons that I've been to in my years have treated me diffrently, just asking me what hair style I'd would like and leaving it at that with no interaction what so ever. This salon made me feel like I was at home with family and friends. We all got along great, and the staff had a nice way of making me feel 'special'. I got a manacure, and let me just say, it turned out great! This place has it all! Manacures, pedacures, Hair styleing, waxinng, and they do it all with perfesionalism!Jean, the one who did my hair, ame it look great, and made me feel right at home!
I will definatly be back to visit my new friends at salon 54!

I have strawberry-blond naturally curly hair that I let grow out way too long because I couldn't find anyone to cut it - everyone gave me a "triangle head" instead of a great style. It was also very dry and frizzy. A friend recommended Salon 54 and even though it's an hour and a half away for me, I called right before Christmas and was able to get an appointment the day after Christmas. Jean took the time to ask me what I wanted and make suggestions - I am a mom of eight kids, own a business and have a full time job, and I don't have time to fuss with my curly hair. I needed a cut that I could wash and go with. I came out of there with an excellent cut and style, and a recommendation on a product she used that helped my hair from becoming frizzy (I have tried so many so-called "anti-frizz" products from the store that I became discouraged I'd ever find one that really works!). I am very pleased with the results and I will definately be back to have Jean cut it again.

Thank you so very much! You saved me from my haircut disaster. It was great how friendly & warm they are & she understood me when I explained how I wanted my hair. Its very hard to find an outstanding hairdresser, but when you do keep them & never let them leave. It was a miracle that you could take me as a walk-in that day.

I have been going to Salon 54 for about a year now. I'm so glad that I found this salon! The people are really friendly and thanks to Joey, I now have an awesome hair style! I have gotten many, many, many compliements on my hair from friends, family, and co-workers since I've been going to Salon 54. Joey listens to my concerns, gives me some ideas of his own, and the result is always fantastic!

I'm glad I finally found a place that can do something for my hair. I had blonde hair that was part pretty-but-damanged and part orange tinted-- the mismatched result of two other salons. I just wanted to go back to the mousy brown that is likely my natural color, but I was doubtful if this could be done 1) without breaking off even more of my hair and 2) with color consistency.

Joey and Toni were helpful in consulting with me, and Toni colored me. Well, it's not mousy! It's a very rich, shimmery brown. It doesn't look exactly like I thought I would, but it does look a lot better than I thought it would (if that makes sense). Since I came to them with a rainbow of colors, consistency was a worry-- but it blends well (actually looks like I have some highlights). My husband says it's the best my hair's looked in a long time. And thankfully I haven't sustained further damage, which doesn't sound like much but is SUCH a relief, because I know just how much my hair has been through this last year.

I came to Salon 54 with haircoloring that, well, had numerous variations in color - My hair would fade and turn an awful reddish-orange shade in places several weeks after coloring. Joey is an expert in hair coloring and haircuts - period. During the first visit he transformed that mess into haircolor that is gorgeous and a cut to die for. I am so thankful to have been referred to him - I could do no better! I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Joey and Salon 54. Joey - Great Job!

My hair is very curly, very dry, and frizzy even if it is snowing outside. I am hispanic, mixed races (Mediterranean, African, Caucasian). My curls are not even or smooth. My hairline is really curly. I used to perm my hair so at least I had some curl definition. I had to put around two full pumps of leave-in conditioner (the gallon size, ~ 4 Tbs) plus tons of strong hold gel in order for my hair to look ok . Never good.

It has been around 10 times (4 years or so) since I have had Joey do the thermal reconditioning . He has done an excellent job every single time. He is very methodical and pays attention to detail.

My life (not exaggerating) has changed. I don't use any products. Well, except for some jojoba oil once in a while. I get up in the morning and I don't think about my hair. The first reconditioning did not take as well due to my hair being so curly. It was still a bit wavy so I had to style it still. Joey had to do my whole head again the second time. Now, he just does the new growth. I don't use shampoo with Sodium Layrul/Laureth Sulfate in it and I don't wash it every day. My hair is never oily. My hair looks healthy and shiny. I do have blow-out the new growth but it is no big deal... just a few minutes.

You'll love Joey. He will work with you and listen to you when you tell him what you would like. He is a little crazy so that makes it fun. I have had several people ask me who cuts my hair. My co-workers always compliment me. You won't be disappointed.

Staff very friendly and upfront about pricing, services, etc. The chairs apparently don't go down low enough b/c I had to tilt my head backwards a lot, which was not comfortable. After full highlights, my scalp was burnt and roots uncovered. I had higher expectations after reading all of the great reviews, but it definitely fell short. The weekend hours are convenient, but not worth it. I will find the time during the week to go to my regular salon.

I had my hair done by Joe. I showed him the pic. of the color and style I wanted. He hardly took a look at it, but said he was going to give the best color and hair cut of my life. When he finished he just had gave a regular bob cut I showed him the pic. again and asked to cut the ends the way the pic showed; his reply was "That's hard to do it almost to impossible".

I finally went today to get my hair done by someone other than my aunt who has been doing my hair for years. I am a very big chicken when it comes to my hair and have had just plain blonde highlights in my hair for 10 plus years. Needless to say I was very scared about having my hair done by someone new especially wanting to go back to my natural hair color and wanting to have a totally new hair cut. I found Salon 54 on city search and with all the great reviews I decided to try it out. I got an appointment with Wendy the day after I called to schedule an appointment. I had to have corrective color done to get my hair back to its natural color and Wendy was great she got my color perfect and I guess that comes from years of experiance and an eye for color. I didn't really know what kind of cut I wanted other than wanting side swept bangs and lots of layers while keeping the length of my hair as it was. I gave her complete control and it came out great. I was so pleased with the work she did which made for a great first experiance with a new hair stylist. I will definatly be going back to Wendy for my future cuts and color!!! I highly recomend Wendy to anyone looking for a new cut and or color. So sweet and comforting!!! Perfect Perfect!! I am so excited with my new look!!!

Joey at Salon 54 literally changed my life. In June of 2005, I accidentally caught my hair on fire blowing out a candle. To say the least, it was a complete disaster, I actually had to walk around with hair that looked just like Billy Ray Cyrus, when I was accustomed to naturally curly, half way down my back hair that people complimented me on often. After my "correction" hair cut at another salon, I felt hopeless. That was until I scheduled an appointment with Joey to discuss possible hair extensions. He was nothing short of fantastic and scheduled me at the last minute to come in. I have had them in since February and my hair is finally starting to get back to it's old self. He and Wendy both are excellent in hair and in making a difference in lives. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with Salon 54 and will continue to go back for as long as I am in the triangle area.

I was charged $150.00 for a highlight and was not told beforehand. It was a good job, but no better than the $90.00 I am used to paying. Totally dissatified. Would never go back. When I called the owner all I got was confrontation.

It was the best experience i have ever had! i feel so different and happy! i have had curly thick course hair nd with out the help of joeyz "magical hand" i would never have such beautiful hair as i do now!! im very happy with mah outcomes nd i will recommend this place to any who want dere hair to be straight!!! I went to Joey after reading all the reviews at CitySearch regarding Thermal Reconditioning. I had coarse, big, frizzy hair that had excellent body but took an hour of drying then rollers and as soon as I ventured near moisture it would turn into a Q-tip. The service I recieved from Joey was excellent; he made me feel comfortable and he was extremely fast. I came home with smooth, silky, glossy hair like the hair I had as a child. I like it even more a week later because I've learned to work with the new texture. I barely blow dry now and with a few flips of a curling iron I can get smooth curls like in the pantene comercials. It's really like a miracle. I don't feel like my hair looks over processed and fried anymore. I'm defintiely going back for more services.

After having the same essential hairstyle for about 25 years, I went to Joey after reading his reviews in Citysearch. He did what no one else ever did, even in Dallas! He said I should change my look and asked me to let him try something. WOW!!! I never even knew I had natural wave. I love my style. He even slightly changed my color and made it lood so much better. The best compliment? All my friends ask where I get my hair done. Love this guy!!!!!

I just recently went back to Salon 54 for my SIXTH haircut and highlighting with Joey. The cut was as fabulous as the FIRST haircut. My first haircut was a new style for me and Joey was very informative about what he wanted to do. It was absolutely wonderful!! He showed me how to style it as he went. And I actually did it, the next day. This sixth hair cut was as accurate as the first. He actually asked how many weeks it had been since my last cut, so that he would know how much to trim. Joey is a very humorous man!! You will have fun and not be bored with silence, when he cuts your hair!! I also must mention the highlights that I got. They were excellently done as well.

I just went to Studio 54 for the first time tonight and I could not be more pleased. I have been searching for a new hair stylist for several months now and just happened to get Joy. I have to say this is the best hair cut I have ever had. My husband was so excited when I walked in the door. He said I look like a whole new person. Joy is very professional and a perfectionist. I will be returning to see Joy for all of my hair needs!!
