I was referred to BMVH from a co-worker. I have been going to BMVH for almost two years now and couldnt be more happy with the service I recieve. They go the extra step to make sure my dog is receiving the best care possible! My Leo is an English bulldog so for some procedures (like neutering) it calls for extra special attention due to the bulldogs smushed faces and small trechia. I don't feel like I would trust Leo to be taken care of at any other hospital. The staff have also been very helpful with informing me about Pet insurance ( I use VPI now) and taking care of filling out all of my claim forms for me. As for the other reviews on the hospital about price, I feel like BMVH prices are comparable to other hospitals in the area. I pay for my services at the hospital with the confidence that I know he is getting the best care in the area without ever feeling like they are charging me for things I don't need.

I take my 6 cats and pathetic rescue mutt to Bryn Mawr and always have a great experience. They are always friendly and thorough and are so gentle with my critters. My animals aren't stressed during exams and everyone takes the time to say hello and
make them feel cared for which makes me feel good about choosing them! The doctors always take the time to hear what's going on with my animals and treat them accordingly! I refer everyone to Bryn Mawr and wouldn't consider any other hospital.

I now see why it seems like the staff is in a rotating door at this hospital. I was at Bryn Mawr last week and saw another employee outright tell a young lady who works at the front desk that she was a "stupid piece of crap!" I could not believe I was hearing this! This young woman who has worked at the front desk for a few months is always very knowledgable and kind. She has always answered any questions that I have and is always asking " How my boys are doing" even when I just pick up food. She doesnt treat me like a dollar sign like many others do at this place! I fear that everyone that my pets and I have come to get acquanted to and that seem like they truly care will be gone in a short time. Now I see why! It seems like most of them that do stay are now rude and miserable! If they let there employees be treated like that then it does not say much about the hospital as a whole. How do they treat my pet when they take him to the back and I'm not around? I can say that now I and two of my neighbors will be going elsewhere where we can become accoustomed to the staff and be treated like a few good (probally soon to be former) staff members of Bryn Mawr Vet treated us. Much luck to this young lady that she will be treated better if she does stay!

I took my dog to Bryn Mawr Vet Hospital three times. The first two visits went without a hitch. The third visit, however was a different story altogether. Dr. Cantner handled the visit, which should have been to give my dog several vaccinations. After the three shots and no examination to speak of, he mentioned he would like to perform some blood tests. Without explaining the details of the blood test, he took some blood from my dog.

After 1 minute, I was told that the blood test showed my dog has no problem.

The visit ended up costing $189. I was charged $37 for the 1-minute blood test. After checking around - I could have gotten the needed vaccinations for about half the price.

If you go to Bryn Mawr Veterinary Hospital, be prepared to automatically pay an extra $50 just for bringing your pet for a standard examination fee. They don't actually examine your pet, this is basically a charge for simply stepping in the building.

This place is seriously overpriced - however, to add insult to injury when I called to question the non-existant "examination" and corresponding charge both secretary and doctor were extremely rude and the doctor ended up hanging up on me.

Go somewhere else where the prices are reasonable and the doctors competent. There are plenty of places around that care about customer service and your pet care, not only the final charge.

It seems funny that so many people could have so many good things to say about this Vet. I have 4 pets that I have been taking to BMVH for years and they are up front with costs not that you couldn't ask on your own. They are courteous unless of course you are a high maintenance A-hole that wants special treatment and to by pass procedures because you are who you are. Try training your dogs or getting them conditioned with other dogs.....your dog your responsibilty! Oh and God forbid a company that is providing your animal care make some money to stay in business or build the VIP waiting room for you....when did a profit become a bad thing? Interesting you think like that as you pull up in your BMW and JAGs.

My advice, don't take time out of your obviously empty lives to bash front desk workers or vets on line as I'm pretty sure they are not in it for the money. But spend the time on line researching Vets that serve the entittled, obnoxious and petty of the Mainline.

I brought my dog Chris here when she was sick and the Doctors took very good care of her. She does not mind going back to Bryn Mawr.

It sounds quite typical of a business that has grown and just does not have the right staff to service the clients needs. If I were there I would first make sure that all creatures including humans were never left with any doubt that their companions where not special and never just a money amount. This business just needs some restructuring aand a class in sensitivity training. make sure that Customer Service would be my first priority

I've been taking my dogs, cats & yes, even a hampster to these fine people for 30 years. When I have lost animals to old age or disease, these vets have been very caring, kind & gentle. For routine care & aches & pains & such, they have always been excellent with me ( I am very concerned with my animals) & my furbabies. Yes, good care at a quality facility is expensive but is on par with other such facilities - if you don't want to pay the price there must be some less expensive places out there, so why complain about BMV? I wouldn't trust my animals to anyone else.

I have been a client since 1980. In all of those years, only once did one vet make a suboptimal judgement call. And it was just that, a judgement call. I work in human medicine and guess what - that happens with people too. The vets are compassionate, allow for meaningful dialogue, skillful and very dedicated. I have been with this practice for 15 cats and 5 dogs' (8 cats & 2 dogs still thriving)worth of experiences - everything from happy kitten/puppy checkups to diabetes to chronic renal failure to cancer to gently administered euthanasia. Most recently they saved my Maine Coon cat's life after he was mauled by a Great Dane. They stopped in the middle of busy office hours to render critical care. So, OK, sometimes for routine visits the wait is long, but just as often it's not. I have never had a problem with anyone in the front of the office, and their Linda is a gem. They are especially accommodating and kind to my elderly mother who brings her 2 dogs and 4 cats there (with our help). They are flexible, courteous and empathetic. Costly? I suppose. Worth it? You bet.

They charge exorbrant prices for subpar care. They're waiting room is extremely chaotic and disorganized. I went in for a regular check-up last Sat for my 2 little dogs and it was a zoo. There was a sign in sheet at front desk so signed in and took seat since there was 8 people at the front desk. 45 min go by and I ask how much longer it will be and the girl says well did you check in and I say I signed in and she says "Well I was suppose to annouce my arrival with her"!!! Why do they have a sign in sheet if its obsolete. My 1 dog is not good with other dogs & noise and was shaking & heart racing the entire time. I explained to them that is was causing undue stress for my dog to have to be waiting in this environment. She looked like she could care less and proceeded to make me wait an add'l 15 min. Finally they called me into another room only to have to wait another 15 min. Finally I've had enough, this place only cares about how much $$ they can make off your pet and regular check-ups just dont cut it. Also they tried to talk me into 6 vaccinations for my dog all at once last year not even caring about my concern for any reactions that dogs may have. Trust me lm looking into other vets as my dogs desever better attentive care and service.

I have found varying levels of care for my pets at this practice. The one vet I would suggest avoiding is the blonde female who displays large mood swings resembling bipolar. The front office is rude which you tend to overlook if the vet care is exceptional. The male vets are more compassionate. Billing is high and they seem unorganized.

This veterinary hospital is the best that I have ever gone to! The Docs there have treated and diagnosed my dogs for several years. I will go to no other vet hospital if I can avoid it. The docs there have fixed botched emergency visits that had been done at other emergency hospitals that have nearly killed my dogs, and in one case helped me thru the dreadful experience I had when Malvern Referral killed my favorite girl on a weekend doing a botched c-section! If you think the costs are high..go to Penn or Malvern Referal! I have compared the med costs and they are comparable to most other sources, including the cheap by mail items. I have had my dogs bathed there and they did a great job and the first time I thought they made a mistake on my bill because it was so inexpensive for a large dog that is difficult to bathe and dry. I had paid that much at one of those "Bathe your Own" dog places and it took me 3 hrs! My advice is; go to Bryn Mawr Vet if you love your Pet and disregard the disgruntled people that probably complain about everything all the time! Diane B

Our family's cats and dogs have been receiving excellent care and have been boarded at BMVH regularly for 25 years. The two founding Veterinarians are excellent, and each of the few additional veterinarians during that time have been outstanding. Moreover, in all that time I have seen genuine caring from the staff for all the pets present, whether they were being seen or boarded. I am not a Main Line resident, I take my pets there because good veterinary care is not free, and not easy to find, but even less than good care is costly. As an example, our determined cocker spaniel found her way into a 2 lb bag of cooking chocolate, with nearly deadly results. We called and then rushed her to the Penn Veterinary Emergency facility in Philadelphia. They were able to save her life. After a hugely expensive day there, they spoke to us about their desire to have our pet stay for another 48 hours and be treated. The charge for that additional time was going to be $2500. I love my pet, but that was not going to be possible. I called up Bryn Mawr from the Penn facility, and spoke with one of the veterinarians as to what was going to be required in terms of care, and could they provide this. The response was of course. The cost was under $400 which may sound expensive until you have a comparison to the $2500. There are a variety of services that many veterinary boarding facilities do not offer. If you prefer to have your pet just caged while boarding that is fine, and the care is excellent. However, if you want additional activities, then there will be additional charges. To me, that is a good policy, particulary when the facility and staff have proven themselves to be outstanding and trustworthy.

We've taken our pets to BM Vet Hospital for many years. We went there after we got 2 Abyssinian kittens and another vet (who allegedly specializes in treating cats) nearly killed them by giving these indoor-only pets leukemia shots. We later learned that leukemia nearly wiped out the breed -- a fact that the vets at BM Vet Hospital knew. They are the only vets I have encountered who seem truly knowledgeable about potential problems with the breed, and they routinely monitor for those problems.

We also boarded our mixed breed dog there and found the total charges to be on par with Pet Smart -- even though the dog got FAR more attention (walks, play time, etc.) than at Pet Smart.

I have 3 cats and a very skittish rescue dog. While another local vet showed no compassion for my dog, EVERY vet at Bryn Mawr has been fabulous with my dog who is very difficult to examine. Prompt care, same day sick appointments, follow up phone calls are all part of the impressive service I get at Bryn Mawr. And yes, good care COSTS ... remember, we use to pay out-of-pocket for HUMAN care ...

I strongly disagree with the negative reviews of this great veterinary hospital. They are the most knowledgeable, thorough, and caring vets I have ever dealt with. They listen to me as an owner and make my cats feel comfortable. So much so that at my last visit, one of my cats was purring on the exam table!
I encourage anyone to trust their beloved best furry friend(s) to these great people.
As to the expense, I find them very fair. Running a clinic like that isn't cheap so if you want your pet to get the best care around, expect to pay for it.

This hosipital is the most unproffessional veterinary hospital I have every sent my dogs to board. The staff snickered when I explained that no, my show dog is not fixed. Two of my dogs boarded there, I sent them with their own food, my bill was not ajusted and I never got the extra back. I was charge 64.00 for baths and nails of which I had no idea this was a "required" "additional" charge and the baths and nails were never done. I have my dogs as proof. It is extremely evident that the main focus of this facility is the buck not the dog. By the end of the three day boarding I ended up paying triple the "published" boarding costs. Stay away!

I don't understand the first negative review at all. I have had animals for most of my life, most of them in the Philadelphia suburbs. I have found the vets at Bryn Mawr highly compassionate, caring, and devoted to their craft. When I had to put down my elderly dog last year, the vet talked me through it, and was gentle and kind to me AND my dog. The staff is uniformly helpful and I recommend them highly. Expensive? Yes! What vet isn't these days?

I'm not quite sure what the previous reviewer is referring to, because I have never been treated in a negative or cold manner. I have been using Bryn Mawr. Vet. Hospital for about 13 years, and I have nothing but positive things to say about them. Every single one of their doctors cares a great deal about all of the pets they care for. When my kitten was sick, the vet who cared for him did more than I have seen any other vet. do for an animal. Everyone single person who works for Bryn Mawr Veterinary Hospital is responsible, caring, and responsive. I would not even consider going to elsewhere.

This place provides the worst pet "care" of any place I have been to in 30+ years of owning pets. They are completely money minded and have set up their system to gouge their main line clients out of every cent possible. The office manager is unprofessional and has a negative and very cold personality unlike any I have ever seen. Her job is to make sure this practice maximizes revenues to the fullest, and she does that job quite well. With the exception of Sandy at the front desk, the other reception people are rude, and there is one with short curly hair who is downright beligerent while she hands you the bill for thousands of dollars and grabs your credit card from you. These vets and the management DO NOT CARE about animals, nor are they concerned with providing affordable pet care for responsible pet owners. They are concerned with PROFITS. Also - they made unauthorized charges on our credit card and even had the audacity to charge huge sums for phone calls ("consultations" in their minds) to us. Avoid this place like the plague.

I have been a client of Bryn Mawr Vet Hospital since 1995. During both emergencies and routine visits (including boarding) I have found the docs and staff to be of the highest quality. Yes, it is expensive but worth every cent. The vets are readily available to talk and always staff after hours as necessary. I suspect the negative reviews come from folks who either don't like spending money for vet care in the first place or are just generally unhappy. I would recommend any of the vets here without hesitation and have always appreciated their judgment and service.

Pros: Compassionate, Dedicated Vets and Staff

Cons: Expensive (But Worth It)
