I've been going to Watson Road Vet Clinic since it opened in 1982. I always preferred Dr. Zeis. When Dr. King came to this practice I found him to be exceptionally kind and reassuring with my animals. He's treated my dogs, cats and the man is a wizard with Guinea pigs! I'd trust Dr. King with any of my animals. He's a great vet!
I have several pet reptiles, my buddy referred me to Dr. Jay King for one of my snakes that was sick. This guy had absolutely no idea what the heck he was doing!!! I had more knowledge about reptiles than he did! I thought maybe this was just a one time issue, so I gave him a second try... not good. After bringing in a pet tortise of mine to see this "Dr. King" I had to visit a different vet. Apparently King had given my tortise a Vitamine A shot? and the critter didn't need it, so it sent him into basically an overdose and I almost lost him. I don't know what my buddy was thinking, but in my opinion this guy has no idea what he is doing with herps, find someone else to see with yours!!!!!
I have never witnessed such unprofessional behavior as I experienced while at the vet where Dr. King works. He was actually showing nude photos to his clients and talking loud enough in a vulgar manner that I could hear him all the way out into the waiting room. I could never go back there, it was disgusting and he and his employer should be ashamed.
I felt so uncomfortable at Watson Road Veterinary Clinic when I went there for the first time the other day. The older males vet, Jay King, was totaly eyeballing me and staring at me the entire time I was waiting in the front area. I started to worry that I had not requested which dr my cat was going to see and was terrified I would have to see him. Luckily I say Dr. Zeiss instead, great vet. After Dr. Zeiss took care of my cat I was walking back out to my car and Jay King was out in the parking lot as well. I immediately felt uncomfortable and actually a little nervous. He still just kept staring at me, I got into my car a quick as possible. I don't know if I will be able to go back, he was really creepy and I didn't feel safe.
I had to take my one year old dog to another vet after Dr. King did surgery on him! I thought maybe I was over reacting, but even the vet I saw was surprised at what a bad job was done. I would stay away from this dude if at all possible. I wish someone would have told me before I went to see him.
I have never been so disturbed by some of the things I have experienced with Dr. Jay King. Luckily there are other vets that work with him, so hopefully he will not hurt anyone elses family pets. I have seen him hit my dog when he took him into the back area to trim his nails. My poor dog was screaming and crying, I know my poor baby was just scared and I know he was difficult, but there is never a reason to hit like that. The two times before that when I had to visit Dr. Jay King with my pets he misdiagnosed my cats (on two separate occasions). Because he was not careful and obviously had no concern for them, they suffered with their condition longer than they had to. I would warn anyone against seeing Dr. Jay King, take good care of your pet and see a different vet.
I love the care that Dr. King provides for my pets. He is an awesome doctor that really does go above and beyond for the animals that he cares for. I have had 10 dogs and 2 cats that I have taken to him for care, and he was fantastic with each one of them. Getting in the floor and petting them and talking to them. He wants to make sure the animal is comfortable before doing anything to them. I recommend him to everyone I know, and I wouldn't take my animals anywhere else. Not to mention I have moved from St Louis to Mayfield, Kentucky and I make the drive to him for the care of the dogs that I have now.
I have been going to Dr.King for 15 yrs. First my mother then me and now my daughter. We find him to be VERY caring and great at his job. There is no where else I will go!
My parents always used Watson Road Veterinary Clinic when we had pets. Now that I have my own home and pets, there is not other place I would take them. Dr. King is always kind, honest, and knowledgable. I've never had a problem there and would recommend him and the Watson Road Vet Clinic to anyone.
Pros: Animals always first.
I consider Jay a dear friend for the way he has cared for my pets over the past several years. He remembers them each time we visit, even if it has been years. Jay tried to save one of my cats a few years ago, and was kind enough to check on the cat on his days off and thoughtful enough to call me with updates on my cat's health, and even sat with me when I visited my cat before he died. I still take my cats to see him, and greatly appreciate the way he cares for them.
Pros: Remembers my pets and me.
I took my Chinese Water Dragon to see Dr. King because I heard that he was THE reptile vet to go to in the STL area. I was concerned that my lizard might have ulcerative stomatitis. It turned out that my lizard was perfectly healthy, but Dr. King gave me advice on how to treat my lizard if I had to in the future, and answered my other numerous questions. Because I take a very active interest in the health of my lizard, it's nice to deal with a vet that I was certain knew what he was doing. I'd happily return to see him in the future.
Pros: has lots of experience with reptiles
I have had dogs almost, forever. In the past , before I found Dr. Zeis, Dr. King and Dr. Fagan of Watson Road
Animal Clinic I was always frustrated. This group of Vets go above and beyond to take care of all animal illinesses to the best of their abitity. For my pets any treatment they have rendered for an illiness has been successful. Their staff is as caring and complying as the doctors are. I know, I have found the best in vet care that St. Louis has to offer in this group of doctors and staff. When it sometimes comes to making very difficulot decissions they are there to help and support you--I Know --They have helped me get through some hard ones.--THANK WITHALL MY HEART-- TB
Pros: Never Over Charges- Fair Prices
My fiance and I rescued a dog ,Gidget, who had never been to the vet, never had any shots, and she had mange. He checked her out, took samples, and gave her all of her shots. His prices were less than Dr. Ziess', but if I did not trust him I would pay more to have my dog treated by the best. I think Dr. King is the best. If he is not working, I will not make an appointment. When Gidget was 10 months old, she began showing signs of a hip problem. She wouldn't jump onto the bed, didn't want to play... It got so bad that she would scream if you touched her or when she tried to get up. We took her to Dr. King, who diagnosed her with hip dysplaysia(after a different Dr. thought she was having back spasms and prescribed her muscle relaxers). He showed me the x-rays and gave me a few options. We decided to have him perform the surgery on her, rather than take her to a different doctor. The director of the education for Humane Society, as well as their head vet surgeon, both gave him a glowing recommendation. She ended up needing two surgeries, but he did not even charge us for the second. He was kind and helpful and answered all of our silly concerned "parent" questions. You would think after performing two surgeries on her, Gidget would be terrified of him... but when we turn the corner and she knows we are headed to see Jay, she freaks out! She is just so happy to see him every time, all he has to do is look at her and she dances with excitement. I have never had an awkward moment with Dr. King. I have never felt that he was more interested in chatting me up than taking the best care of my baby. In fact, I would say the opposite. He seems more interested in the animals than the people, as a good vet should be. I would never go to another vet.
What a wonderful place. Dr. King is one of the sweetest vets. He truly cares and is so honest with you. If your pet is sick, he keeps you informed constantly and always gives updates. He bent over backwards to accommodate us and take care of our sick puppy. He is a true animal lover. He has MANY pets himself and is quite knowledgeable!!
Pros: Dr. King is great
DR. KING WAS MORE INTERESTED IN TRYING TO GET A VIEW OF MY CLEAVAGE THAN HE WAS MY CAT. HE WAS RECOMENDED BY A MALE FRIEND, BUT I WOULD NEVER GO BACK. HE THINKS HE'S A REAL CHARMER, BUT HE REALLY MADE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE, AND THE WORST THING WAS, I ENDED UP GOING TO ANOTHER VET BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HELP MY CAT AT ALL.
Cons: OFFICE STAFF WAS RUDE, DR. KING DIDN'T CARE ABOUT MY CAT
The first thing I noticed about Dr. King is that when the main doctor wasn't around, he inappropriately flirted and touched the young female technicians working in the office.
But, the worst thing that he did to one of my pets is that he said a stray dog that I found had heart worms. He seemed surprised when I said that I would have the problem treated (instead of having the poor starving dog put down). The day that I came in to start treatments, the regular doctor (Dr. Zeiss) was back in the office. I asked him to recheck the dog. He not only did the heart worm test, but he also checked the dog's hemoglobin sample under a microscope. He couldn't find any heart worms. That dog is alive and well today, seven years later. I don't know what Dr. King's motive was, but I felt he wanted to put that dog down for some reason.
I never trusted him to treat my animals again.
Pros: Dr. Zeiss is the best vet in town. He offers reasonable prices and is great with animals.
Cons: I avoid Dr. King when at Watson Road Veterinarian Clinic.
Jay toook care of my Maggie for over 10 years. He was gentle and kind. He petted her and he talked to her. I trusted his judgement . He is wonderful I would never hesitate to take my pet to him.
Pros: over 10 years of good experience
Dr. King has been great with our two dogs and cat. We have a dachshund that has back troubles, and Dr. King has been absolutely wonderful with her and with us. I highly recommend him if you are looking for someone who will take some time and take care of your pet.
Pros: Easy to get to, open on some evenings and on Saturdays.
Cons: Phone rings busy a lot.
