I cannot say enough times that you should strongly consider getting married somewhere else. The owner, Lissy, is not looking to host a beautiful wedding venue for you, she is looking to make as much money off of you she can to pay bills and upkeep her house. She even mentioned to us when we paid our final deposit that she was taking that money to immediately go pay bills.

She fought me every step of the way on where I wanted tables, chairs, the ceremony itself. She made my guests feel uncomfortable and scared to touch anything in her house. Her husband is rude is and unhelpful. One of my guests stepped in a giant pile of dog crap about 10 feet from where we had the ceremony. Her "staff" is a joke, and I basically paid them $10/hour to eat my food and help as little as they possibly had to. She ate my food without asking, and several plates of food "magically" vanished at the end of the night.

We paid for the pavillion until 10, and about 9:30 she was walking around rushing people to finish with eating, and made the DJ stop playing music at 9:45. The house was full of animal hair, and one of my guests who stayed overnight said she was rushing him to get out the following morning. Be prepared to stay late and be expected to put everything in the exact place you found it, even though you will pay "staff" to do that exact thing.

My $200 deposit was also cashed without any reason. When I asked her about it, she said that it was to clean up the "mess" left behind by my guests. Without any elaboration on what kind of mess. The price seems like a really good deal, but you are "getting what you pay for" with this one. However, expect to pay extra to rent out extra tables, because she will magically have less than it says on the website. Expect to lose your $200 deposit without any reason. I wish I had gotten married in someone's back yard instead of wasting my time and money on this venue.

I LOVED my wedding because of the wonderful people who worked around all the inconvenience, but the owners went psycho the day of and really added so much uneccessary stress that it was hard to enjoy it at times. There are a hundred other places you can get married, and for less money than this. If you are considering this place purely for budget reasons, please message me and I can refer you to some other places in the area that are less expensive, and considerably less stressful. novocainromance@hotmail.com

Things are not what they seem at Santillane. I agree with the other posters. Here are some things to consider:
1. When you get the brochure, it seems like "everything is included"- you get this nice spread of all the tables and chairs you'll have. Well, it turns out that, in the owner, Lissy's words, "Those tables aren't really serving tables. You'll have to rent your own."
2. She quoted me at $90 for the sides for the pavilion- turns out that is $90 PER SIDE x 3. There's a heads up for you!
3. She steers you towards "her favorite rental place"- which turns out to be in Lexington, so you end up paying a travel fee. This all totalled $800+ dollars, so you're not saving as much as you think you are.
4. Her "staff" is a completely joke- she had me pay $10 an hour to have some girl tie ribbons on a chair. I'm pretty sure her "staff" is family.
5. She lets her dogs eat off your buffet table, and boy, do they smell GOD AWFUL. I'm a dog person, BTW. But this is gross.
6. She openly does not like children and tried to tell my well-behaved guests that they needed to "pick between inside and outside"- um, they're MY guests and I paid for the inside AND outside.
7. She doesn't keep receipts and has no idea how much money has been paid- and she'll try to get you to pay extra for random fees.
8. She expects your guests out at 10pm sharp- she shut down the DJ.
9. All of my desserts went missing when we came back to pick them up.
10. She is rude, and inconsistent.
11. Her decor is tacky and she will not take it down.
12. She didn't clean the toilets- there were smears all over. Gross.

Basically, I cannot tell you enough how stressful she made my wedding experience. She doesn't want to run a B&B or a wedding business, she wants to maintain upkeep for her house. She is absolutely ridiculous. I was warned and thought I could handle it, but it is NOT worth it.

I will agree with the following review that claimed the owners will steal from you.
I was also married there in Sept '09 and had a nearly identical experience.
While they originally they seemed to be accomidating, we found out all too late that this is not the case with the owners. We were told we would be charged for pressing and cleaning of the "included table cloths" which were niether cleaned, nor pressed... in fact they acted as though it was an inconvienence for them to pull them out of the drawer. They were kind enough to leave the window air units on our entire ceremony, so NO ONE heard us speaking. She rudely asked our DJ not to return (who is one of the best in Roanoke) b/c he was too loud ... Its music, at a wedding for crying out loud, not a hip hop concert. They ate the food my caterers set aside for my husband and I. Ate the cake we set aside for our grandparents (knowing that it was saved FOR THEM). The interior and exterior of the home were filthy, in particular clumps of golden retriever hair in the home...and lastly and most shockingly they deposited our security deposit for cleaning... WHICH I changed out of my wedding dress to help my family do before we left that night. Lissy even mentioned how impressed how quickly and efficently we cleaned. There was ONE white hand towel that my younger cousin accidently got some dye from the flowers on. We knew about it before we left, and I offered to replace the one towel right then and there. She said she wasn't concerned... Obviously bc I paid 200 or 300 bucks for that one towel. While the venue is certainly beautiful and ideal, it is just not worth dealing with the owners who are obviously only in it for the money. They are thieves and I will never set foot on that property again. Chuckie Cheese wouldve been less drama and cleaner!

It had been my dream since I was a little girl to get married at this beautiful house sitting atop the rolling hills of Fincastle. How excited was I when this dream came true on Sept. 22, 2007! Perfect is an understatement, it was truly magical! Dan and Lissy are fantastic people who really make you feel welcome. For our wedding we definitely wanted to focus on the history of the house itself so we exchanged our vows at the top of the front stairs with each member of the wedding party on a step going down. Everyone that came to the wedding really appreciated the history and charm of this location. If you are looking for a wedding day that takes your breathe away, you have found the place :)

Two words describe Santillane. Stellar experience. I have attended 4 receptions at this beautiful venue; a private event, a college alumni event & two Western Virginia Museum of Art (now Taubman Museum of Art) event in recent years, as well as a bridal luncheon. The venue, with it's Southern charm, beautiful gardens and majestic decor, is over the top. The owners, Lissy & Dan are passionate about providing the finest in customer service and treat each event as if it is their own. Their attention to detail is superb and I highly recommend Santillane for any private event.

I had a bridal shower thrown for me at Santillane and it was beautiful!! The house, the gardens and the porches provided a great setting for a party that flowed indoors and outdoors. I found the owners to be very accomodating and laid back, which is important to consider when planning an event. Whatever the occasion, this venue is really versatile which allows you to be creative with what you want, as opposed to other venues that have strict regulations. The views are picturesque and the house is amazing- I would highly recommend Santillane!

I have attended several events at Santillane including a Soup, Salad, and Seminar, a bridal shower, and a wedding. Lissy and Dan have also been extremely accommodating! The grounds always look lovely and they offer many extra services like valet parking. Lissy is also an excellent resource for planning a wedding. She knows many vendors in the area. I have always had a very positive experience at Santillane and would recommend it to friends and family.

I can not say enough good things about Santillane. The owners, the place location. and oh yes the house. Totally amazing picture perfect. Peaseful, beautiful everything a dream wedding or any event could ask for. As for the owners Dan and Lissy you could not ask for a more accommdating easier people to get along with. They are ready to do what ever is neccesary to help make your event everything you could ever hope and dream for. I would and do highly recommend Santillane to anyone. If you are looking for a place for family or graduation pictures this would be amazing. Thank you Lissy and Dan for everything.

I was in a wedding at Santalline B&B this past weekend and I have to start by saying the ceremony and reception turned out beautifully. This was WITHOUT the help of the owners in any way, shape or form. As a bridesmaid, I was out setting up tables and cleaning up the owners dog crap at 4pm. The ceremony was at 5pm! To me, if you own a B&B and are going to rent it out to couples for receptions, etc, one would think you would make sure the grounds are clean and well kept. Neither of these things were done. Not to mention we were basically thrown out at 9pm!! While the owner was stealing the left over alcohol that was brought by the wedding party to serve to the guests! She even tried to steal decorations that did not belong to her!!!! She was rude to the bride and the guests at the reception, all the while drinking and eating!!! My suggestion is there are nicer, more professsionally run establishments in the Roanoke area that would be much more adept at catering to a wedding parties needs. Don't waste your time or money here!!!!
