This place has potential for greatness, but there is a major problem. It is too close to pimple infested students and heir staff is untrained, I mean no idea of what customer service is about.

I go here often, the prices are great, but

In a very historic building yet when you enter you feel like you just went into a modern restaurant. It is a fun atmosphere and their specials are amazing. The sushi is so cheap and so good that you could try almost everything and leave so full and happy. Best place in westwood.

I've been here with coworkers and had a pretty good time. The restaurant is gorgeous. It's located in a beautiful historic building in Westwood Village. The food was good but pricey. We were there for lunch and they had a decent lunch combination special. I've also noticed advertising for half prices during happy hour. If you're in the area then I would definitely recommend stopping by. If nothing else but to see the inside of this place and get a quick drink.

Yamato is one of my favorite restaurants ever! From the the first time I had dinner there I've become obsessed. My server, Pim, was very friendly and I always ask for her. The food is above average compared to other Japanese restaurants I have been to, and the prices are unbelievable low. My friends and I often go here for dinner and sake bombing and we always have a great time.
My favorite item on the menu is the 911 Roll. It is the only menu item that I MUST order every time I go to Yamato. Besides that, I try to order different things each time just so I can try other foods.
On Saturday nights there is a live DJ in the corner by the entrance who plays House music (I swear they can turn this place into a club haha).
The prices are always low due to their Happy Hour which seems to be permanent. I don't think I have ever been there at a time when it wasn't happy hour... and I'm there all the time!

Recently, I was offered a Yamato Lunch Club Card which is basically an "exclusive" club for people who go to Yamato for lunch all the time. You get a stamp for every time you eat lunch and when you have 9 stamps you get 1 free lunch. This applies only to entree items which is anything thats not included in Happy Hour.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that they charge for spicy mayo and eel sauce! However, that hasn't stopped me from going there every week.
I love Yamato and recommend it to anyone who wants great tasting sushi, sake, or sashimi thats affordable and won't burn a hole in your wallet!

Yamato is my favorite! I absolutely love the 911 Roll. The food is always 50% because of happy hour. This is the best restaurant for the college crowd. Always full of UCLA students who are sake bombing before going to their frat parties. They recently got a DJ for saturday nights so expect to hear House and Hip Hop music while dining.
*Ask for Pim to be your server! She is the Best!

Yamato is currently my favorite restaurant! The sushi is above average, the staff is very friendly, and the crowd is mostly college students from UCLA. Whenever I walk in, I am greeted by the Hostess by the door as well as all the sushi makers at the bar. They have a DJ there on Saturday nights to play House and Rap music while you dine. Ask for Jenna to be your waitress. She's Hot!
In my opinion, Yamato is the best restuarant in all of Westwood.

We wanted a quick bite on our way out to a party and stopped in. They had great 1/2 price happy hour specials. We got to try several different rolls, salads, skewers, and tempura and the total was less than $30. It has an upscale decor but it is in the center of Westwood village and it is not pretentious. It is come as you are with lots of students in their UCLA sweats and t-shirt as well as people dressed for an evening out. Service was adequate and parking is always a challenge in Westwood but I would defineately recommend giving it a try if you arte in the neighborhood.

Yamato is my favorite sushi restaurant. The first time I went there I was amazed at the quality of the sushi compared to the low prices. They have great sake as well. Besides the food/drinks, the fact that there is a DJ makes it even better. What more can you ask for?

Yamato is the best value in Los Angeles, hands down. Amazing decor, good food, and unreasonably cheap prices....what more can you ask for? Definitely worth visiting.

I entered Yamato with reluctance because I had had my wedding reception in the space when it was Eurochow. I was saddened to hear of Eurochow no longer being there because of the memories and the amazing experience I had. But my friends and I were hungry and I was generally curious about the changes with the restaurant, space, and service. We came in very late--near closing--but the manager Akira was so accommodating and welcoming. Our food was pretty good, by far the best Yamato I have ever been to, but it was the overall service of the manager and the server that really impressed me. They were very kind and genuine in their having us there--even though we were the last ones. Great price, good food, beautiful ambience, awesome service.

My buddies and I randomly walked into this place not really sure what to expect. We've passed by it a lot since we live near Westwood, but we never actually went in.
The night turned out to be a great surprise! As soon as we went in, we were very impressed by how spacious it was and how nicely decorated. It looks like a very high class, high end type of place, but the prices turned out to be very very reasonable! I tried the black cod which literally melts in your mouth and my friend got a bunch of little appetizers like shiitake mushrooms, tofu, eggplant, and other Japanese dishes.
Be sure to get the molten chocolate cake for dessert.

I went to Yamato for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! The hidden restaurant and food are visually fantastic!!! Yamato has the freshest, most delicious sashimi I have tasted in LA-- and that is really saying something. To top it off, my plate (which included a spectacular variety of sashimi, a miso soup, seaweed appetizer, and a mini salad) was only $14! I felt guilty and tipped the server 50%. But the real surprise was the molten chocolate cake. It was exquisitely arranged and came with a delicious purple (yes, PURPLE) ice cream and crispy wonton flakes. PHENOMENAL. (period.)

I went here on a date... We were seated immediately on a sort of balcony that overlooked the entire gorgeous restaurant and bar. The halibut and toro melt like butter in your mouth, the kobe filet is to die for, and the dual-pudding dessert and the molten chocolate are delicious! Don't forget to save room for dessert! Yamato has a very romantic, sexy-vibe and my date and I were pretty impressed to see Quentin Tarantino there.

I am definitely going back soon!

We went here Friday on a whim and believe me when I say it will probably be the last time. Our service was fine but the food was just not good at all. It wasn't overpriced but I felt like I was eating sushi from the mall. We did get some items from the kitchen and they were barely edible. I wish I could be more clear about the exact items we had but everything was just completely forgettable!

We just went to Yamato this week (mid Feb), and while the service was fine, the food was absolutely horrid. We ordered the tempura calamari, and the dish showed up just kind of warm, and the fried goodness on the outside the tempura was actually mushy nastiness. I think because it was the "special" of the night, they must have fried up a big batch of it earlier in the evening and left it sitting under a heat lamp. We made the manager take it off our bill.

I also ordered some fatty tuna (mid price - they have three different kinds of fatty tuna), and it tasted and smelled fishy. At that point, the manager had made us feel so guilty about taking the calamari off the menu, we didn't bother asking for the tuna off as well. We figured with this kind of food quality, it's not likely that they'll be around for that long anyways.

Oh yeah, someone needs to tell them to dim the lights a bit. Bright lights might work for the lunch crowd, it doesn't work for the night.
