I cannot believe how atrocious my treatment at this salon was. I would not recommend it under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I had called earlier in the week to make an appointment for a waxing. Ron asked me what time would be good on the day that I wanted it scheduled and I said, around lunch time. He said great, let me take your number, I may give you a call to remind you of your appointment, and that was that. In our conversation it was clear that it was he and his wife running it, and it was a small operation. Since he was satisfied with my around lunch time I thought it must be a pretty slow placed and relaxed operation, and I didn't think anything of it.

Fast forward to the day of the appointment. It's 12:00, so I head out for the appointment. At 12:06 I get a call from Ron and he asks if I'm on my way. I say yes, I'm on my way. I arrive eight minutes later to a complete disaster. I walk in the door and the first thing Ron says to me is, You're 15 minutes late. She's (his wife) already seeing somebody else. It looked like she was painting someone's nails. My thought was, you knew I was coming and you couldn't wait eight minutes? But I didn't say it. I just said okay. Then she pops her head out from the back room, takes a look at me, and says, I'm not seeing anyone else for the rest of the day. Normally, that would be only minorly upsetting, but I had a plane to catch the next morning, I could not reschedule and now I was in a pickle.

That's when I put the brakes on and said, Hey, wait a minute. This isn't fair. You didn't even give me a specific time to come in. I'm here at 12:15, You knew I was on my way, and you gave my appointment slot away to a walk in and now refuse to see me at all. Ron instantly got confrontational, accusatory, and nasty. He raised his voice at me and talked over me, YELLED and would not listen. I was shocked. I remained calmed and asked him not to raise his voice at me, as I was certainly not raising mine, only to trying to explain my position. He only continued to yell. It was the MOST ATROCIOUS customer treatment I've ever experienced.

Ron was nasty and condescending that he would never tell me to come in around lunch time, and talked to me like I was an idiot. I tried to express to him that I'M the one that said, and that he simply confirmed, that it sounded like things were not communicated clearly. He only talked over me some more and continued to insult me. Finally, I had enough and left, extremely upset at be being treated so horribly by anybody, let alone someone in a position of customer service.

Bottom line, if there is miss communication that's ultimately on the customer service provider. It's their job to recognize it and do their best to fix it, not blame and vilify the customer without even listening to their input on rectifying the situation. If you call me and I tell you I'm on my way and I get there right afterward, you do not give my appointment to someone else and then refuse to see me at all without explanation. You do not pick a fight with me because I express that I am unhappy with that. YOU DO NOT RAISE YOUR VOICE TO CUSTOMERS, especially ones that aren't raising their voice to you.

Upon reader other reviews I am starting to suspect that Ron and possibly his wife took one look at my brown skin and wanted me out of their salon, only using my lateness as an excuse. Others talk about having to listen to Ron's racist screeds. Other reviewers write:

The guy named Ron is very rude and weird. Not professional at all. He is also a racialist [sic].

" ... and although he continually spouts off 'Now I don't share my opinion... this is a place to make people pretty, not share my opinions' .... he told me his uncomfortable opinions my entire pedicure.

I highly suggest that if you want a peaceful experience where someone does not berate you with their small-mindedness, you go somewhere else."

[Ron] Made me very uncomfortable and fearful of what he would think of me and my daughter...

He also called the far left "Nazis" and "Communists", insinuating they're basically the same thing.

...the husband is very clear homophobic...
(These quotes were taken from citysearch.com reviews)

It's horrible to think that he would treat me this way because of the color of my skin. Disgusting racist attitudes have no place in any kind of business. And whether it was about race or not, nobody deserves to be treated that way.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Never go there.

Ron does amazing work! I have gotten much more expensive haircuts that don't compare to Ron's expertise. I also appreciate that he explains everything he does and even discusses with me different styles that could work with my hair.

Taunya is absolutely the BEST there is when it comes to waxing. I have been to other salons and other cities, and no one seems to have the experience that she does. It takes her half the time it takes anywhere else to get a waxing, (which also = less pain) and her price is unbeatable (the student discount is highly appreciated). She is very friendly, and confident in her work.

The guy, Ron, is friendly and you can ask for the way you want. The place is clean n nice also. My boyfriend n had the haircut today. Yes, he used scissors. I would say pretty decent hair saloon in Pittsburgh in terms of price and service received.

I'm a male college student and i've been coming here ever since my freshman year. he is simply amazing. he cuts with scissors (something supercuts won't do)

i always leave happy...the one downer is the price... around 25 for a cut...but its worth it. no one does it better so I have no choice but to pay up.

I just went for the first time and I love my cut. I have curly hair, which I think isn't that hard to cut, but I have had poor haircuts in the past (somewhere else). Ron was quiet at first but became friendlier as time went on. He listened to everything I like and don't like. He taught be about different Aveda products that would work for my hair, and let me pick which one I wanted to try. After looking at the reviews on here, I was nervous to go to Oliverio's but I was desperate!! Luckily, he gave me a really cute A-line cut. My hair is curly but thin and he made it look deceivingly full of volume!! My only complaint is that the salon could have nicer interior design. ($36 for a womens cut)

I went here for highlights. I told him what I wanted and he suggested adding low lights as well. I agreed, but was frustrated because he didn't even use foils...he just let the dyed strands of hair sit on top of my other hair! I also got my hair cut. He thinned out my hair A LOT and didn't even ask me if that was ok. When I was finished my hair color looked almost exactly the same except for two blonde streaks and my hair cut looked limp. I went to ULTA in the waterfront to get it fixed and my stlyist said that there were "specks" of blonde all trough my lower layers of hair and that she could see the "jagged" scissor lines from where he thinned it. She told me it would take at least two more haircuts to fix this....NEVER AGAIN!

I got a manicure at Oliverio's recently, and for $12 +tip, I was very satisfied with the service. My appointment started ten minutes late (which I thought was strange because they asked me to come in 10 minutes before my original scheduled time), the process itself was quick. Taunya gives a very basic, efficient manicure, trim, file, buff, with one cream, primer/colour/top coat. This is probably not the ideal place to a full-on pamper me treatment; it IS the place to get in and out for that weekly mani-maintenance. The best thing about Oliverio's is the great selection of colours: pearls, blues, shimmery, sparkley, matte, dark-to-light, even copper and a shimmery olive green! Taunya really knows OPI's collections (of which there are many), so she'll be able to find your perfect colour.

I came here after a friend suggested it to me, and I'm glad that he did. Ron does a great job. I'm glad that I found him. I usually call him at the last minute at get in. He remembers his clients. You're not just a number. He's very personable, too.

It's a good location just on Craig street and the price is reasonable considering the service. There is a discount for students.

the other reviews made this place sound nice, reasonably priced. i needed a trim & all over color to get rid of highlights. i wanted dark brown-- i got purple, and the highlights showeded after one wash. in the trim, he took off way more than i wanted, & isn't very professional. i've never been nervous getting my hair cut like with him. he was really rough brushing my hair. neither he nor the other lady talked to me the entire time. i felt like i was in the way and not wanted. it was extremely uncomfortable.

my hair wasn't styled-- just blow dryed. there isn't a single chi there. with the student discount, a trim & all-over color was $80, which isn't bad, but given the quality, extremely expensive. i will gladly go pay more at a higher quality salon where i feel welcome & am treated well.

I brought in a picture (from 3 different angles) of the haircut i wanted. The haircut was supposed to be a long layered cut with long bangs. I ended up with very SHORT bangs and no layers! It looked like a double helmet. When I tried to voice my displeasure about my haircut I was brushed off by the stylist. Needless to say I will NEVER be going back.

I randomly picked this salon for its location, and am so glad I did. I've tried several salons in the past few years that were mediocre and over priced. My cut was exactly what I asked for. Plus, I was amazed at how reasonable the price was. Cute and cozy atmosphere as well.
