It was my dog's first 3 days stay at the PAH and it will be the LAST ONE. When I arrived to pick him up, I have to go to the back of the building myself to get him. In 3 days none of the staff members was able to create rapport with him.

I have taken my 2 dogs and my cat to the Plainfield Animal Hospital, for about 8 years. I have nothing but good things to say about them. From the receptionist, to Robert. They are all kind and caring.
I have sean most if not all the doctors there. My favorite doctor is Dr. Otero, she has gone out of her way to help us. I recently moved to South Carolina, and cant find a Vet. that can even came close to Dr. Otero. She is very caring and professional. I miss her very much!

Do yourself a favor and find a different vet. These guys try to wring every last dime out of you while your family pet dies in the next room. Even when they are dead, they will try to get more out of you for cremation. They wanted close to 300 dollars for euthanasia & cremation... the SPCA does it for 60. Enough said.

I used to swear by Plainfield Animal Hospital. My pet had been going there for 7 years. Now I havve growing concerns. I do not mind paying for expensive care but when incorrect diagnosis are being made and they claim expertise in areas that they do not have then it's time to watch out. If only one person will listen to this then I've done my job. If you get a serious diagnosis regarding your pet from them or your pet will need to be on long term medication please go for a second opinion. They will not recommend it but just do it!! If you can't travel to Red Bank and see real specialists and you have to go local then do it. You could not only be saving your pet but even though the initial money might be more it will be a lot cheaper in the long run. My pet got a very different diagnosis from a specialist than from them. Was it human error or wanting to make money I do not know. I hope it was the former. Are they at minimum trying to take on more then what they are actually qualified to do the answer is yes!!!!

I have been going to the Plainfield Animals Hosp for over 25 years. The doctors are good to excellent, and Dr. B is a great surgeon. He did a wonderful job removing a pre-cancerous growth in my 10 year old Doberman.

I have found though, that ever since they moved into the new hospital building that was built, the prices have gotten high and higher on many things. They are awesome vets, however they are considerably priced higher than other vets. I sometimes think I am paying for the all the new counter tops and fancy building. My dog recently needed to have a bladder stone surgery. Their estimate was 2700 dollars. Two different vets gave me an estimate in the 900-1200 dollar range. A thousand dollars difference is ALOT. Enough to make me start going to another vet. Dr. Sam, of All Pets on Route 202 South in Branchburg is excellent. He has done several surgeries for my girls and I am happy with him. His equipment is not as high tech as Plainfield Animals hospitals equipment, but then again, he gets the job done and does a great job. I have not had any issues.

The other thing that has been a downer for me at Plainfield Animals hospital is the fact that they have vet turnover to fast there. I find that unsettling.

This is the Worst Example of a Vet. Hospital that I have found. Dr. Ontero Especially is one that you should NEVER See. She is totally Incompitent, Rude and Many of us cannot understand why she is a Vet. She very nearly killed my dog and then complained about my comments about her. ! She is worthless !!!! Pls. take this warning seriously if you love your pet.....It is a testiment to Scott Lenick and HIS inabilities that he keeps her there. If you can afford the very high prices and rudeness then do see Dr. Al Laetcher. You will not be sorry for he is one of the best Vets. in NJ.

I was a former patient of Plainfield Animal Medical Group on Prospect Ave in Plainfield for many years. Unfortunately, they folded and merged into this practice. This practice is VERY EXPENSIVE and they try to run up your bills with every possible test and procedure when you go. I used to enjoy taking my pet to the vet but now I dread it as they do so much upselling to pay for their new extravagant facilities. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I have been taking my dogs here for over 10 years. I agree that they are quite pricey but I do like the care my dogs get. Dr. Linick is awesome! I also like Drs. Perez and Loomis. I agree with most people about Dr. Otero. She does represent this facility badly! You can request to see specific doctors or even not to See Dr. Otero. I think part of the problem is that since they are rich they don't realize that you may want them to be conservative with all the tests they do and the procedures and prescriptions. I don't think they are aware enough of how much they cost. We always say that we unwillingly helped pay for that brand new beautiful facility.

I have been going to Plainfield animal hospital for many years, Major & Morrison were my favs! Now the only drs I would see in that place are Blaicher, Loomis & Latcher, the ones that care about your pets not whats in your wallet! Otero is a rude, nasty person who Im surprised Dr Linick keeps around. She misdiagnosed my dog costing me tons and when I initially asked her if she was sure boy did her attitude rear its ugly head, come to find after taking my animal to BERG animal hospital on a recomendation from a friend because I couldnt get in to see blaicher ( he was booked for weeks I was told) she was wrong! If i had listened to that moron my baby would have been put to sleep for no reason! She told me my animal was going to suffer ( it was suppose to be a liver problem when all it was was in infection!) well that was almost a year ago and my babe is alive an kicking healthy as can be... They have gotten very expensive and the quality of care has gone down hill, and the staff are so lazy, i now know why you sit on hold. I was in the waiting room watching them answer phones and put people on hold so they can finish conversations they were having with each other. I swear barb is the only one there that does her job!
I dont even feel safe recommending them to anyone anymore unless they see the drs I noted above...

Brought my Wheaten Terrier (my life!) to them for the 1st time since my previous vets closed down & merged with them. After reading the reviews, I was VERY hesitant to bring my baby there. I had even started asking/researching other facilities in my area. Being very worried about a lump on her back, I did not want to waste any more time & made an appt., figuring if it was a bad experience I would later change vets. I told them I either wanted to see Drs. Latscher or Blaicher, both of whom have cared for my girl since 6 weeks old. I met with Dr Latscher, & aside from the different surroundings, there was no difference in the way he treated my girl. He assured me the lump was just a mole (thank god!) & checked her & played with her as he always had. A very positive experience. I also found the rest of the staff I dealt with to be very friendly to me & my Winnie (she is a total cutie!), caring & patient with a few questions I had. The facility was nice, clean, modern & did not stink of bleach or urine. I also did not find the visit to be overly expensive at all, & cost me a small amount more than normal...not a surprise with rising inflation. Of course buy medication online. I wholeheartedly recommend them, at least the Doctors I've mentioned since they are the only 2 vets we have ever (& will ever) deal with. I don't have a single negative thing to say about them & am relieved Winnie's healthcare provider is something I don't have to be concerned with anymore. Thumbs up!

I have been bringing my pets to Plainfield Animal Hospital since 1985. Thankfully, I haven't had to experience any emergency situations, but what I have experienced in everyday illness, routine visits, they are the most compassionate caring people in the field. I will admit their front desk staff sometimes have a lot to be desired. But the veterinary care out weighs any rudeness or ignorance front desk people. I think that maybe they are too secure in their job to care? A lot of reviews on this site complain of being over priced. Well, top quality medicine and up to date medical training along with the kind compassionate care they give, is worth every penny! Why do people compare prices of medical care for their family pet, but do not question prices for their own medical care? Medicine is medicine people! If you want the BEST Medical Care from Caring Compassion Doctors - then go to the Plainfield Animal Hospital.

.I have two rescued feral kittens who are now over two years old. They were spayed and neutered as kittens, but since they are indoor cats only, and since they were destroying my house with their claws, I needed to have them declawed. The only animal hospital near me that did this with laser was Plainfield. I wanted it done with a laser since they were over two and it was said to be a much less painful procedure to the cats. The cats were treated well and their paws look great and don't seem to bother them at all. They don't seem to notice that anything was done to them--as compared to my other cat who was done as a kitten and received a butcher job by a local vet. Dr. Blaicher did a great job and it was worth the cost. The staff was very helpful and always courteous. They called the day after I brought the cats home to check on them. I was very impressed with the quality of the care my cats and I received. I wish I lived closer to this animal hospital since I would use them again.

I have been taking my parrot there for 8 years. I have to say that before they upgraded the building they were much better to deal with. Their prices doubled once they move, at least for avians. I have had the same negative experience with the receptionists and the long waits. It seems that every time I go I see a different "avian specialist". None of them seem to think their is anything wrong because the symptoms have gone away, even thought the first diagnosis was serious. Now that I have a symptom re-occurrence to deal with & have seen the other negative reviews, I don't think I will go back. Dr. Morrison, where did you go?

I am a member of Shetland Sheepdog Rescue of NJ and I want to express my appreciation to the staff at the Plainfield Animal Hospital for their kindness and help with one of our rescue dogs.

On Sunday, May 18, at 10 AM, we were organizing an event for a large number of people and we got a call from a pet owner who wished to turn over her dog to rescue. The owner could not care for her and no longer wanted her.

The dog was a five year old female, who had been a mill puppy. She was a totally unprotected, neglected animal with not so much as a rabies shot. She was very ill and needed immediate help. It was a very sad, difficult situation and we really did not know where to turn.

I called the Plainfield Animal hospital and they did the impossible. They took in this dog, sight unseen, and went out of their way to help her and make her comfortable.

Heather, Dr Loomis and the rest of the staff unselfishly and compassionately treated her without an appointment. They cared about her when her owner did not.

They could have turned her away, and I have no doubt, that her former owner may have abandoned her to the street. Dr. Loomis kept us posted of her condition all afternoon and his genuine care and concern for this animal was obvious.

I have my fingers crossed that this dog is on her way to recovery and that a caring family is waiting somewhere to give her the type of home she deserves.

I want to thank Heather and Dr Loomis and the rest of the staff for caring so much about her. They are a credit to themselves and to their profession.

This place is WAY OVER PRICED, I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! I paid 3 TIMES what I normally pay at my vet's office, thinking I was getting specialized care. This place is a legalized thievery.

it was 8 years ago. all the staff was kind. they didn't ask for payment up front - but I did have an empty credit to take care of my amazon parrot with a huge stuck egg. sorry to see so many negative comments. I have a parrot that needs some blood work to find out why his beak is growing a bit fast. One must pay attention to feedback!!I'll have to find another vet business that will look at parrots. there aren't too many in new jersey

After taking three of my dogs and cat here for three years, I have decided to go elsewhere. For four reasons: (1) they are incredibly expensive even for the most basic procedures, (2) they misdiagnosed my dog with neurological problems, causing me to pay all kinds of money when really it was his liver; (3) when my dog (who had liver problems) died at their hospital two years ago, I paid over $3,000 for his treatments AND as of a few days ago, they still have not updated their system that my dog passed away; when I called to make an appointment for my other pets, they asked if my deceased dog needed a check up, I politely let him know that he died there two years ago...The receptionist's response was "okie dokie," with a clear hint of sarcasm; (4) if your pet needs 24-hour care, the PAH sends them to a 24-hour care hospital---which is not easy on the owners or the ill pet---what kind of hospital is that?!

I really dislike this place, I was forced to go there twice and I paid 3 times more money then in any other place.
It feels like they don't really care for the animals only for how much money they can suck from you. They will perform all kind of services on your pet (or they say so) without warning you how much it is going to cost.
Receptionists are moving very slow and they have time for everything before they will serve you or ask what is your problem. And they luxury boarding for cats is a scam - they say cats can watch tropical fish and you would think there is a giant fish tank - it is a wallpaper only, small cages, nothing fancy about it. I will never go there again.

I have been bringing my pets to this hospital for years and cannot complain about the service. They saved my dog's life after being run over by a truck and have successfully clipped my dog's nails when no groomer could. I cannot say the same about price; they are extremely costly and tend to proscribe unnecessary medications for simple treatments. Saving owners money may not be the hospital's priority but they are successful in treating hurt and sick animals.

I am so pleased to see the review posted on 12/23. I had the same experience with Dr Otero. She accused me of yelling on the phone while I was in tears trying to find out why they didn't give my dehydrated cat fluids during the emergency visit. She wouldn't let me talk and kept over talking me. I have never dealt with someone with such little compasion for animals or their owners. When we told her we didn't have the money to pay for hospitalization, blood work, xrays etc- she said she couldn't do anything for us. However she did keep repeating the payment plan- and how she couldn't give me any opinion or instructions on how to make my cat comfortable without the blood work or xrays. We got out of there for 200 dollars for an awful office visit and several doses of antibiotics to take home. I took my cat to another vet who immediately gave her a fluid IV and nutrical. DO NOT GO TO PLAINFIELD ANIMAL HOSPITAL- they only care about money and clearly have no common sense on how to treat a sick animal unless you line there pockets with nearly 1000 dollars.

I am so pleased to see the review posted on 12/23. I had the same experience with Dr Otero. I only go to this facility because my vet joined the practice. Dr. Blaicher, Latschar, Loomis and Perez are great. Stay away from Otero - she has a definite attitude if you express an opinion about your animal that conflicts with hers. For instance, leaving the exam room in a huff when I wouldn't allow her to shave my dog who had a hot spot. My punishment - a $547 bill - yes, quite expensive for a hot spot which I ended up treating and curing for about $5.99. I also experienced a receptionist who commented on the amount of pets I own -- doesn't my business pay her salary? And Robert seems to have an attitude about big dogs. Too bad Dr. Blaicher didn't stay in practice for himself. The fees are way too high - perhaps because we now have to pay for the vet liaison - what is that anyway? Spays and Neuters - you better take out a bank loan. And forget purchasing medication from their pharmacy - you are paying twice as much as you do on-line. And my rating of satisfactory is only because of Dr. Blaicher, who actually cares about the animals he takes care of, plus their owners.

Staff is friendly, very professional and highly skilled. They're prices are reasonable for veterinarians, I would recommend them to anyone that cares about their pet.

I normally go to Fanwood Animal Hospital, which I am very happy with, but my dog was sick on a Sunday and my vet is not open. I called and they were able to accommodate me right away. The facility is large and up to date. The staff was friendly. My dog saw Dr. Loomis and he was very nice and able to take care of my dog's problem. I asked if my dog should have her follow up with him or her regular vet and he said it was up to me, but that he would not charge me for a follow up. I did not find them to be inordinately expensive either. The only negative was that I did have to wait a while to be seen, but other than that it was very good.

I took my new puppy here and one they are the most expensive vet I have ever been to and two this particular doctor, Dr. Otero, told me my puppy had worms (which he did not) and I would have to bring his stool every other day to be tested. I was also told he had mainge and was given meds which he did not have mainge. Finally she tried to sell me $30 tooth paste and told me I have to brush his teeth daily...come on it is a dog! She loves to rack up bills...do not see OTERO! See Lastchar he is wonderful!

My vet recently merged with PAH and, unfortunately, I can't afford him any more and will probably be going to Fanwood Hospital from now on. Every time I leave I feel like I am paying for that new, fancy building. I feel it is run more like a business that a veterinary hospital. Saying all this, there are some great vets there - Dr. Blaicher, Dr. Latschar, Dr. Major and Dr. Loomis. I know I am getting quality care but I think I can get quality care elsewhere for a lot less money.

My dog had to have a root canal done and Dr. Linick is 1 of only 2 in NJ that is a licensed venterinary oral surgeon. I did lots of research and all the vets and professional dog trainers that I spoke to said he is a great doctor. He was very nice and explained everything in detail. His office was happy to give us an update on how surgery was going (all 4 times that I called) and our baby is doing great. His staff was als overy accomodating when I requested full medical notes (for insurance purposes) and were quick to respond. I can only speak from that one experience but I'm glad to know that I have a wonderful option for my dog's medical needs. They are on the pricey side, but so were all the best facilities that I researched. I'm not going to skimp on quality and jeapordize my dog's well being just to save a few bucks. You get what you pay for.

Save yourself the frustration of spending ALOT of money and receiving the poorest health care for your pet! The minute you walk through their door you are faced with extremely rude and lazy receptionists who act like theirs jobs are the most important on earth. Meanwhile, you wait at least an hour and a half (with appointment) to then see an uncompassionate doctor who's main goal is to increase your bill to as high as he possibly can to pay for their new building. If you really love your pet don't take them here! This animal hospital is a scam!

They will do the minimum for the maximum and they do not care about your pet like they say. Some of the Dr's are very rude and not compassionate and do not care how long you wait for them. They should be charged for your time. See how they like it. I would NOT recommend this for your pet or for you!!

I used to have a vet that I really liked but he merged with the Plainfield Animal Hospital and I am disappointed with the service. I too had to pay an extra high fee to have my pet looked at sooner than they could schedule a regular appointment. I asked for a tech to give my pet his scheduled vaccination, but they don't want to allow that because then they can't charge the big office visit fee with the doctor. I am looking for another vet who seems to care about my pet and not how much money they can gather in in a day.

I have been bringing my pets to Plainfield Animal Hospital since 1985. All of the staff treat my pets as their own. Whether it's a routine physical or needed surgery, I know my animals are receiving state of the art medicine and dentistry. This kind of care gives me many long, happy years with my pets. Now that they are in their new facility they have extended hours, handle all emergencies without an appointment and will come to your home to treat your ailing pet that cannot travel. Even when the time comes for euthanizing an animal that is failing, they treat you and your pet with understanding, kindness and respect. Bringing my pets to another vet is not an option for me.

Had to take my dogs to this hospital and not happy at all.
We found another vet but they closed and moved to Plainfield Animal Hospital and again we are stuck with poor service, high prices and unsure quality of care.
We hear a constant list of what my pets need ("It will be waiting for you at the desk") and no asking if I want it or the
reason it is being imposed on me.
I have begun looking for vets who care about my animals and not the payment they need to make on their new building.
I am very, very, very disappointed.
BTW, had to bring my dog over to have her foot checked and was told I must pay extra fee since it is not scheduled and considered any emergency. $$$$$$$$$$

I have taken my dog to the Plainfield Animal Hospital and it seems to be a pretty good place. They have a newly renovated Hospital and it is right next door to the old one. The staff is very friendly and they are pretty complete when it comes to services and also items that they sell. I can pick up medication, food, vitamins and more over here. I like it a lot, it's pretty conveniently located on Park Ave.

PROS: Professional staff
CONS: A little Pricey
