II have had Danmer Custom shutters installed in my home on two occasions. Both orders were flawless from beginning to end. The Design representative was experienced and understood my specific needs. He took the necessary time with me to go over every detail to make sure that I understood exactly what I was getting. Just like they promised, two weeks after the installer measured for my shutters, he came back and installed them. Once again they were everything I expected and even a little more. The installer (Jerry) was as thorough as he was efficient. He is a true craftsman in every sense of the word. He arrived promptly at 9:a.m. and got right to it. What a difference in our living room now. It looks like a completely different room now. Thanks again to Danmer for your wonderful service and quality product.

Ignore the three stars-- Insiderpages won't let me leave just one-star. Danmer does not deserve ANY stars. Do NOT do business with Danmer Shutters. The workmanship is shoddy; my entire order is completely wrong; the installer (Edgar) was surly, unprofessional, rude, and installed shutters he knew were made incorrectly (he worked on the blue print); and the salesperson (Peer) got the sale because I believed the lies he told about the competition (SF Shutter) .

I received two bids for custom shutters for my new house; one from SF Shutter Co. one from Danmer. SF Shutter Co. did the shutters in my old home & we love them. SF Shutter's bid was lower. Why did I choose Danmer? Answer: (1) the salesman (Peer) came equipped with more props than did the SF Shutter rep. and I responded to his dog and pony show like a 6 yr old, (2) Peer stressed how the Danmer shutter quality & installers are the highest & best in the business, & told me he would use his best installer (Edgar) on my job, & (3) Peer told me a series of lies about SF Shutter Co. and I stupidly took the bait. Lesson learned.

Peer spent a ton of time at my house going over every last detail of the order. The large, arched window in the front of my house would receive two bifold panels, with louvers that would be split in 3 sections. Dividing the shutters in three also ensured that I would never end up with a split that was dead center. This was important to me. The louvers on my front French doors were also to be split in 3.

The shutters were to be installed before I moved into the house because the front of my house is completely exposed & I refused to move in without window treatments. We scheduled our move around Danmer's instalaiton schedule.

Danmer installed the shutters 4 days before the move. After they were up, we realized the entire order was wrong. Among other things, the louvers on the arched windows are split in 2 (not 3) & the split is dead center, which I specifically said I did not want. Also, the fixed louvers at the top of the arch are noticeably different sizes, a flaw that is very obvious when the shutters are open. Edgar also arrived without the correct number of pins for the hinges, leaving the shutters hanging by a thread on one side. Rather than use magnets to close the shutters (ala SF Shutters) Danmer uses cheap clips, which not only make opening and closing the shutters awkward (the shutters have to line up exactly with the clips to close and closing requires a hard shove; opening them requires a strong pull), the clips are so flimsy they are destined to break.

As for the French doors, the louvers on the right door are properly split in 3, however, the louvers on the left door are split in 2, which looks terrible. The frame around the shutters on the French door is bowed, a spot on one door looks like it may have been gouged and (badly) repaired with putty, and the louvers on the bottom right door hang open. The same is true with some of the louvers on the arched window.

I immediately called Danmer, while Edgar was still on the premises. The Danmer rep told me his solution was to remove the shutters and have them redone - returning them in a few weeks. I explained that this was unacceptable because we were moving in 4 days and I could not live with wide open windows. The rep said he would call the installer to discuss. Shortly thereafter, my husband called to tell me the installer had taken the shutters down - against my express instructions to leave them up. I literally had to scream at the Danmer rep to get him to leave the shutters in place while we worked out a solution.

During this period, Edgar told my husband it was OUR fault that we were in this situation because, according to him "we should not have scheduled the installation so close to the move." WTF? Edger also told me that WE would be responsible for repairing any damage to our walls done by Danmer if they had to rip out and replace the poorly made shutters. Double WTF???

Danmer left the shutters in place & Peer came out again to make a list of the things that had gone wrong. He agreed that the job had gone horribly wrong and blamed the factory for not reading his instructions. One suggestion HE made was to leave the shutters as is, refund 100% of our money and call it a day. I said I was not looking for free shutters. He also suggested Danmer might agree to fix the mistakes and not charge us for the final installment. I said my first concern was making sure the job was done right; we would discuss the cost after we worked out a solution. Notwithstanding what Peer said, Danmer is now only willing to fix two of the problems and take off 10%, or take the shutters back and refund my money. Neither proposal is acceptable. I have the emails, the order form, the pictures, the witness, and the evidence to back up what I am saying.
