Theologically, this is Southern Baptist, minus the label. People are friendly and the music is vibrant, as well as moving. They say they are no longer affiliated with the Southern Baptist denomination - but this writer is aware tha...t the Baptist label is being dropped in many places in favor of more neutral, hip labels. I don't doubt the sincere faith of the people or that they are upstanding citizens, but beyond the worship experience, one will find exclusion of those who don't believe and behave "correctly" - say for example those who might believe in the possibility of righteousness and connection with God outside of Christianity, or persons who have same gender attraction and practice.

The question to ask is not "Are all welcome in your church?" but "Would someone who honestly admits he or she doesn't fully subscribe to or is uncertain of the prescribed theology, be able to fully participate at all levels of voluntary church endeavor / leadership / ministry etc...?" Nice as these people are, those kinds of differences wouldn't fly. Therein lies the rub.

One last note - naturally there is a $6M building campaign going on - but it's for the west side campus. With a video clip from the senior pastor, this was outlined in detail during the offering time. My guess is that the downtown campus is more of an outreach of the primary location, versus a stand alone congregation.
