After visiting this salon, I realized how dysfunctional many hair salons are! It is NOT normal to sit in a salon for upwards of 6 to 8 hours to get your hair done. For many years, I thought that this was the "norm" among African

I've been patronizing this salon since mid November (2010) and have been both excited and very pleased after each visit. Cheryl usually does my relaxers and color - Fab results! Najah is a stylist worth every rave she receives. Her cutting

Walked in with shoulder length healthy hair, bought suggested expensive products, went frequently, spent a LOT of money to end up with damaged and breaking hair..... see full details in my review on yelp

This is by far the best salon that I've ever utilized. Najah's skills and professionalism are unsurpassed. I recently went from slightly below the shoulder length hair to Halle Berry short. Najah consulted with me, looked at pictures that I brought, and came up with the perfect cut. I was slightly nervous about such an extreme change but she exercised the patience of "Job" and before I knew it, I was glammed out. She even walked me through the entire maintenance and styling process step by step. While I can't say enough about Najah, I also want to commend the entire salon staff. When you walk in the door, you experience nothing but the best from beginning to end.

Omg, my experience at Like The River Salon, was all that I thought it would be and more. For starters, I was pleasantly greeted by the receptionist who also happened to serve as my human navigator as she gave me perfect directions to the salons convenient midtown location on Highland Ave. I immediately took comfort in the salons serene, tranquil, yet inviting ambiance. Then, after only a few short minutes, I received a warm embrace by non-other than the shops owner, Najah Aziz (who by-the-way, was the stylist that had been recommended to me by Kiara Akita.) She was so friendly and personable, I felt as if we had already met somewhere prior. Well, shortly thereafter, I was offered a variety of breakfast pastries, desserts, and beverages which was great considering I had been rushing out the house that morning for my appointment; thus I didn't quite have the time to stop and grab a bite to eat. This was very thoughtful and well recieved; needless to say, I induldge!!!

Moments later, I began on the first step of my hair process, the relaxer. Cheryl, Najah's assistant, took great care of this step. Our conversation was light, but memorable. Cheryl is a stylist/singer from Chicago who loves experimenting with diffrent hair styles and colors which, in my opinion, she happens to wear very well. Oh and did I mention that I was given a FREE color rinse!!! Yeah, because I didn't come prepared to pay for this addition and it was highly needed, Najah did not hesistate to "keep it real" with me. She politley said: "this one is on the house." I gasped. She continued: "I can't have you leaving out of there looking all dusty." (LOLOLOL) I laughed. Now to some people this may sound offensive, but when you're as real as I am, this was something only a caring friend would say to another caring friend; thus I deeply respected Najah for her blunt honestly and gratefully took her up on her suggestion. Now once at the shampoo bowl, man oh man, did Cheryl do me justice. I nearly fell asleep as she thoroughly massaged my itchy scalp, I didn't want this particular step to end.....

After coming from up under the dryer, it was time for Najah to work her magic! I loved the fact that she and the rest of her collegues don't use your typical marcels when curling your hair. Instead, they all use an assortment of Chi Irons, ranging from cute petite to the well needed large. I, myself, prefer the Chi Irons because from my own personal use of them, I like the fact that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the entire iron; unlike with the marcels which have been known to burn your hair completely out when overheated. Ugh!

Finally, after Najah had educated me on hair care maintenance and encouraged me to step outside of my normal (safe)hairstyle box- she spun me around to see her creation..... I nearly came to tears. My hair was not only jet black, soft and managable, but it was also beautiful and still so ME. I walked away renewed; happy and confident. I didn't even want to go in to work after that kind of treatment! I wanted to just take the rest of the day off to go show off my new fabulous do & continue pampering myself- whynot! My hair experience that day served a purpose of both, outside and inside beauty fulfillment.

So hats off to Najah and her wonderful catering staff, together, their customer service and professional skills flow- "Like The River." :o)

Thank You Guys!

I have yet had my hair service by this salon yet. I am in a seach of finding a salon I can call home, excellent customer service, reasonable pricing, good quality, products, expertise and style. Not to mention healty hair care, come on, that's a given. We all want a stylist who cares about our hair and want it healthy, just as much as we do. I called today to make an appointment, and so far so good. The receptionist was pleasant and informative making my appointment with Najah. Can't wait to see the outcome, as I well review that as well.

I have nothing but positive remarks for my first time experience at Like The River The Salon with Najah. I have visited several salons in GA, CA, MI, and NY. One of my pet peeves is that some salons are not very clean, the receptionist is rude, and the WHITE towels are dingy and raggedy. Not the The River...beautiful modern clean salon, professional receptionist and BLACK clean towels.
Najah, is awesome!!!!! She knows what she is doing and does is good!!!! I left the salon with a haircut that I truly love and compliments from friends and family. A couple of days later Najah followed up with a phone call asking how I was doing and if I still liked my hair. I have never had a hair stylist do a follow up with me.

I highly recommend this salon...you will not only come away with a wonderful hair style, but also a good experience with a professional. My only regret is that I have to go back to California and can't bring Najah with me to maintain my new do!!!!

Pros: Clean Atmosphere, Professional, Great Stylist

Cons: Not one

LTR is a great experience and Najah is an EXCELLENT stylist. Her short cuts are exquisite! Najah is very concerned about your preferences and needs as well as helping you maintain your look in-between appointments. Everyone is pleasant and professional. I'm surprised at the negative comment regarding Terion. He has done my hair a few times and I've been very pleased. I would (and have) recommended LTR highly.

This is in response to like the river the salons response to my bad experience. Unfortunately , the first time we went to the salon our stylist was late. We had a 6am appointment in which our stylist was not there at 6am. We were asked by one of the assistants who we were waiting for and then we were told that the stylist should be there shortly. We proceeded to wait about 15 mins and then the stylist showed up. We thought that this was a little inconsiderate considering it was 6am but even though the stylist was late, we decided to stay and not pre-judge the salon.

We are very respectful of our stylists time as well as the time of other clients. We believe that an effort should have been made by our stylist and the salon to service us and not to push us off to another stylist. Our appointment was at 7am and when we called we were told that if we were there by 7:30 , we would be seen.

Like the River is a great salon and we are not taking anything away from that fact. We wish more would have been done by the salon owner to make us feel like we weren't just another "client ". I am a business owner myself. And in my business , we make sure that all clients have a great experience no matter what. A lot of times in business as a owner you have to step up to the plate even though a client may have fell short.

All in all ,Terion is a great stylist, with a great personality. We are saddened because we really liked the salon and we thought we found a salon that we could call home.

This unfortunate situation (cited in merchant539307's post) is completely related to the philosophy that helped Like The River's acknowledgement as a "Best of Atlanta" hair salon for 2009 by the Atlanta Tribune magazine.
We pride ourselves on providing the best service in an efficient manner, eliminating the prospect of overly lengthy time in the salon. That's achieved through not double-booking clients and clients arriving to their appointments on time.
In this case, the client called the salon five minutes AFTER the schedule appointment and was told there was a 15-minute grace period. Ultimately, the client arrived 35 minutes late, which is unacceptable. Servicing a client that late would have been unfair to the next client, who arrived on time for her appointment. It would create a chain reaction of other clients being serviced late because this client was 35-minutes late. Not fair.
We respect client's time by servicing them in a professional and timely fashion. Clients have to respect stylists' time, too, and arrive on time. No one likes to lose a client. But we will not compromise on being fair to ALL our clients for the sake of a client who knew the policy and still arrived 35 minutes late.

From the minute you walk in the door you realize this isn't your ordinary salon. The decor is fabulous! The giant waterfall in the receptionist area immediately brings a sense of calm. The gentle music playing overhead relaxes you. And there's not enough room on this page to discuss the excellent customer service provided by master stylist/owner Najah. Her shop, her business etiquette and her immense talent set her apart from the rest. She's not your ordinary stylist/owner and that reflects in the atmosphere she's created inside the "River."

I found LTR in Jezebel magazine and I've had the magazine on the advertisement since May but kept putting off making an appointment finally I made the appointment and was upset with myself for not making it sooner after my experience with Najah no other stylist will touch my hair, She gave me exactly what i was looking for and i LOVE LOVE LOVE my haircut although I am growing my hair back out I am looking forward to how Najah will work with the different lengths but I have the up most faith that I will never have another hair issue because my hair has found it's home in Najah's hand, not to mention many of the clients of the other stylists were as I say " on my hair level" ......chic, professional, edgy with an undeniable elegance that is LTR in words.(which is very hard to find in Atlanta) It's so good you don't want to share the gem but you want everyone to know what a gem it is, yes it's that good.

I start my day watching Better Mornings Atlanta on CBS, and I was so proud this morning to see a feature on Like The River. I actually screamed when I saw my stylist, who is the owner, Najah and her sister and co-owner Lateefah on the screen. Their staff donated their time to do free services to children, which I thought was so wonderful!!!
It made me proud. Najah and Lateefah have done it right. They started a hair salon that is professional and community oriented. Their salon is gorgeous. Their customer service is great (I had muffins and gourmet coffee one morning and one Friday evening I had delicious margaritas - served by a wonderful gentleman, ladies!
Najah's is magic with my hair. And I see other women leaving the salon looking beautiful too. Everyone there is so talented. One problem: Najah has become in such demand I have to make appointments two and three weeks in advance. But that's only because she is the BEST!!!!
Congratulations on doing another great job in the community, Like The RIver.

This is a very upscale salon, using only the best protects, but in reality a salon is only as good as the stylist you get. That being said, if you do go, do not book an appointment with Terion. Not only did he severely overlap my relaxer and overprocess my hair (despite the fact that I said I didn't want it bone straight), he is very scissor happy and will chop off your hair... and unevenly at that. I paid for a trim, which would be like1/4 to 1/2 inch, but I got a 1 1/2 inch cut, and he admitted it too. My ends weren't split, they were thinning and I prefer to be eased through the process of removing the ends, and when I complained as he was in the process of trimming, he was like "I didn't whack off your hair, there's more I coulda cut." Here's what I think: I'm paying you, so you need to do what I request and not take on your own agenda. I'll listen to what you have to say b/c u are the "specialist," but in the end the decision is mine. And if you're goign to shop off my hair, do it EVENLY! The man cut my bangs unevenly. How is that even possible? I think he must be fresh out of beauty school or something. But I will say the manager is very nice, and came and greeted me when I came in and everything, nice guy. I think the salon would be ok, just be careful who you go to.

I know I have finally found a stylist that can give me the look I have always wanted! Najah took the time to find out my likes and dislikes and gave me some great recommendations for healthy hair. I absolutely love my hair! First impression was great!

I was referred to the salon by a close friend who is a huge fan of the salon. Due to thinning hair, I have been wearing a hair weave for years. After hearing all the rave reviews on the salon, I contacted the salon and scheduled an appointment with LEISHA. LEISHA IS A SUPER TALENTED STYLIST. She did a brief consultation about my likes/dislikes and gave me suggestions on hairstyles that would be suited for my lifestyle and facial structure. After the brief consultation, I was relaxed and confident she would do a great job...and she did ! My style/weave is the best ! I receive complamints daily. Those that know me well know the various styles I've had in the past and a very close friend thought that I had taken out my weave and was wearing my natural hair. LEISHA gave me a style that was natural looking and the cut is unbelieveable. The salon atomsphere is relaxing and just gave me a overall good feeling. I highly recommend LEISHA to anyone who is looking for a talented and professional stylist. LEISHA IS THE BEST and I thank her each time she does my hair !

Like the River is a wonderful salon with staff that are on point, which is why I don't mind paying for the services that are rendered. Its cliche but you get what you pay for. The only problem is the cancellation policy. If you make an appointment and don't make it for any legitimate reason (child being sick, working late or any reason why you may not make an appointment) you will be charged 50% of what you would have paid. I really don't think that is right. You guys may loose customers that way. You should reconsider that policy. I recall before if we were 15 or more minutes late then we were asked to call and reschedule but now if I am in traffic I am going to have to reschedule and pay 50% on my next visit. Why would I come back to pay for a visit and 50% more? Don't get me wrong, I love LTR but Najah and Lateefah, PLEASE RECONSIDER this policy!!!!!!!!

Well, let's start with how I found Like The River. I located it through Citysearch so it is only right to review it. I called and got in with the owner, Naja, which is hard to do.
I'm new to Atlanta, so I called to get directions and the manager, a man, not only gave me directions, but stayed on the phone with me until I arrived at the door.
Then he greeted me with a smile, a cup of water and took my jacket. Nice start, right?
Then I took in the salon itself. Just beautiful. Brick and hardwood and a wonderful waterfall!!! Yes, a waterfall!!!
It was a Friday, which I learned was margarita night. So I had a savory cocktail. Then Naja gave me a whole new look that was/is fabulous!!! She is the best I've ever had. She made me laugh, made me feel comfortable about trying a new look and then did her thing!!!
When I left, it was raining, and the gentleman/manager walked me to my car with an umbrella. A very nice touch. All in all, go to Like The River now!!! It's like their website says, a "wonderful experience."

I have to first give a shout out to my stylist Carlisa at Like the River. Although I've only been going to Carlisa for a short amount of time, she has transformed my hair to be more healthy while providing excellent styling. -- She is truly an expert in her field and cares about her client's hair. When I first started going to Carlisa, my hair was very damaged and couldn't hold any type of curl and was very dry.

Carlisa recommended an action plan to help get my hair on track and she has been consistent and detailed when caring for my hair and to top it off, she has a great personality!

Now on to the salon . . . the salon is conveniently located on Highland Avenue and is very contemporary in style. Although the majority of clients at Like the River have textured hair, they cater to all hair types and offer services from great hair cuts and color to steam hydration treatments and relaxers. They carry various product lines, but my all time favorite is the PhytoSpecific haircare line -- All natural products and an excellent relaxer that isn't damaging to the hair like most relaxers.

All of the stylists and assistants are customer oriented and very accomodating from the moment you walk in the door.

The salon's website also offers online appointment booking which is so convenient and easy. Appointments can start as early as 6am!!. Which is great if you need to get your hair done before work.

Next door to the salon, there will be a new day spa called Float opening soon that is under the same ownership, so I'm excited to see what that spa has to offer since the salon is so fabulous!

I highly recommend this salon!!

Darrien was my stylist for the first visit to the salon, I saw the reviews and gave the shop a try. What a great experience--- Darrien didn't cut my hair too short- she showed me the exact length she was going to cut before she did it. I also did not sit in the shop all day, they structured the schedule right so I was out in 1.5 hrs. What a relief for once, to go to a salon, get exactly what you ask for, have a great stylist, a decent price for service, quick turnaround without sacrificing quality, and a great atmosphere.

I have already scheduled my next appointment and told all of my friends.

I had been searching for quite some time for someone to cut my short hair. The same person had been cutting it for approximately 10 year and she recently decided she did not want to cut hair any longer. So, I was left out here in the ATL.....land of weaves.....to find someone who could give me a short cut just as good, if not better. Well, I've found that someone in Najah. SHE IS "THE BOMB". She's very professional and can see your vision and recreate it with her shears. Her skills are far beyond what I expected and I have been nothing but pleased. If you are looking for a great cut, professional stylists, a beatiful salon w/good parking and great prices, visit Najah and Like the River Salon!

I watched Najah's professionalism and skill for two years from the customer chair of another stylist in East Atlanta village and was in awe! She was attentive - asked questions; quick - no three and four hour appointments; and talented. Her customers always looked great. She is the only stylist whom I've met in Atlanta to remind me of Oscar James who used to cut my hair in the late eighties- early nineties in the Bronx, New York City. He's in regularly featured in Essence magazine.

You will also love her newsletter. I recently went online to figure out why, for the second time, my hair turned green after a coloring and could not find anything specifically for or by Black women. There was LOTS of information on blond hair. A few years ago, I was trying to find out information on moisturizing my hair and which products made sense and couldn't find much.

I am thrilled for Najah and know that this salon will go far!

Like the River Salon sets the standard for the high level of services provided for clients. I absolutely love coming into the salon and having the feeling of peace and serenity. My stylist Najah always takes great care of me and does a FABULOUS job with my hair. I always leave satisfied, and can wait to come back for the next appointment. I have recently moved to upstate New York, I have not even made an effort to look for a new stylist. I still travel to Atlanta, to get my hair styled. I must say, it is absolutely worth it. I urge everyone to make time for themselves and go to Like the River and have a beautiful and memorable experience. You won't regret it.

I have been going to Najah the owner of Like The River Salon for about two years now and I have never been disappointed. The atmosphere at her new salon is so relaxing and comfortable I truly feel pampered at each visit. The staff is friendly, professional and always accommodating. I have really thick hair which I prefer to wear short and Najah consistently provides a very trendy sophisticated cut. I ?m so pleased with her service I will not go anywhere else. I have had so many compliments not only from friends and family but strangers often stop me to ask who cuts my hair. I highly recommend Like the River to anyone who?s looking for a great stylist and unbeatable service.

I have discovered one of the classiest, most upscale multicultural salons in Atlanta. Najah & Minrell have done my hair & both experiences were extraordinary! On my first visit, I was in desparate need of a haircut. Not only did Najah talk to me about my lifestyle & how much maintenance I wanted to use in order to maintain my "new do", but she gave me one of the best haircuts that I have ever had. She evaluated my facial features and hair texture in order to determine which style would be most flattering for me. On my second visit, my appointment was with Minrell for highlights. She is truly a color expert! She made me feel at ease by discussing each step of the process with me, and also emphasized the importance of blending just the right color(s) to complement my face. When I walked out of the salon, I felt and looked like a million dollars! In addition to all of this, Like the River offers free valet parking after 5:00. You owe it to yourself to visit Like the River -- I promise, you'll never go anywhere else for your haircare needs.

If you like a professional and upscale salon, this is the place for you. They have stylists who specialize in everything from color to natural hair care. The sytlist who did my hair was Minrell. I felt she was very professional by telling me everything she was going to do to my hair, and she gave me tips on what I should do at home to maintain my hair. The salon has a tranquail atmosphere with contemporary look. This is the home I've been looking for!
