Cafe Select is a great addition to the neighborhood. The food is filling and inexpensive. Wine is great and inexpensive when order in half bottles. I know the manager and have been introduced the the chef a couple of times. Where else do you see managers and chefs chatting with the customers and asking my opinion?! The owners, who I do not know and have never met, have a great place that I hope to see for many years to come.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Never had swiss food before so I was in the area and took a look at the menu and returned later that night to have dinner with some friends. Once I walked in I was greeted by a very courteous host who I later discovered was the manager (I think mentioned in a previous review) and made us feel welcome. The food was very good but my wife did mention that some dishes could have used some color in the form of greens, I chalked it up to maybe it being a swiss thing. I am pretty plain/simple and had a cut of steak with spaetzle* on the side with meringue.. something for dessert. The only complaint I have is about our server, she didn't seem to care about our experience there, one word describes her.. DRY. I guess a little more friendliness or personality could have helped. Overall, it is comfortable and cozy, management is sharp and very friendly, food is good, great dining experience all in all.

Pros: Food, Decor, Location - right off the 6

Cons: Dry Server, however other employees were friendly

I live in the neighborhood and am always excited to see a new addition to the area. I went in for breakfast Saturday suprised to find it busy. I sat for breakfast and read the newspaper, ordered a latte, fruit and eggs. My server was slow, absent minded and very uncharming. Thankfully a beautiful girl came to my rescue and took over my check. She apologized for the bad service and bought me another latte while I continued to have to wait for my food. I later found out that she was a Manager in Training and hopes to become the General Manager. Her charm and professionalism is what this place needs to accompany the wonderful food, pleasant acoustics, and welcoming decor. Fire the all of the waitresses and Cafe Select will have one of the top 10 breakfast spots in the city.

We live in the neighborhood and were very excited to hear that there was the possibility of a great new local spot. However, we were disappointed on every level. The service was very slow and distracted even though it was empty. The presentation of the "wurst" salad was the worst we have ever seen or eaten. There were practically no greens and the sausage resembled Oscar Meyer Weiners. The carrot cake was wrapped in a tiny plastic package resembling Twinkies. Will definitely not be back.

The service was awful. Brought to you by Serge Becker, a man who openly hires and hangs with addicts, international smugglers, and thugs. See esquinany com. His economic model depends on allowing trafficking in his establishments, it's been repeatedly documented. He's the new Peter Gatien, and this establishment only brings more trouble to this neighborhood. Hopefully any day now he too will be arrested and deported the same as Gatien, it's only a matter of time. Oh, and the food was also overpriced and bland.
