Popped into Musette after passing by the place a few hundred times. Upon entering I was greeted by that lovely aroma of a gourmet deli and by the counter lady. She had a tinge of a French accent, which for some reason, was reassuring ;) I had a look over the sandwich menu and at their salad and meat selection. I inquired about a colorful and rustic looking chicken salad and the lady was quite helpful explaining that it was a tarragon seasoned salad. I ordered the salad and she even made a recommendation for a wonderful bread substitution.

Yes, as the other reviews have noted, it isn't cheap at Musette. I also wouldn't chalk their demeanor up to rude or brusque. After all, this is New York City and the curtness that one may interpret in Musette is trifling in comparison to the shenanigans you witness in the subway ;)

Highly recommended.

The REAL pastry chef must have been on vacation! Make sure you ask for Richard, he's the in-house pastry chef, came here from France, worked with the famous Jean Louis of D.C.'s Paladin. He's the best--everything he makes is incredible. I've seen people stop him on the street and ask him if he's making his apple pie, or if there's a fresh batch of macaroons. I've heard, though, that he doesn't make everything that the shop sells, so be sure to ask! If Richard made it, you won't be disappointed!

I went to this bakery hoping to purchase a special B-day cake for my Mother. The cake I received was so awful, even the kids at the table would not eat it. I was shocked, this place is suppose to have an excellent pastry chef. When I went back the following day to talk to the pastry chef he replied, "Marble Cake is garbage! Who eats marble cake?" Well obviously not the guests at my mother's 75th B-day party. Not only was the cake lousy but his attitude was lousy too.
