I am always very pleased and grateful after taking my difficult shiba inu to get groomed. My dog is VERY difficult to bathe and we can't do it ourselves at home b/c she screams bloody murder and jumps out of the bathtub. I have taken her to luxury, super expensive pet groomers before who came out of the back room soaking wet with scratches all over their arms telling me that my dog wasn't allowed back unless she was sedated. But the groomer(s) at East Village somehow manage her and (dare I say?) actually like my devil dog! My dog is always very soft and happy when she comes out. I can't speak for boarding or day care but for grooming I love this place!

donna did a perfect job giving my two persians lion cuts -
they did not have one nick -
they were not in shock or upset -
they looked adorable - smelled yummy -
the place is not modern and new which is ok but i wish it was more sterile - i am into prestine clean -
jane the owner is really friendly & nice.

Prior to a hectic Saturday of holiday chores, I dropped my 2 year old Shih Tzu Mork at East Village Grooming and Doggie Daycare. When we arrived I asked if he could also be groomed and was pleasantly accomodated into the grooming schedule. The bracious staff made me feel at ease that my little Mork would be wellattended. As I was leaving he had already started socializing with the other young dogs and puppies. After completing my busy day, I returned to "East Village" to find Mork most content with his new friends. He had the most stylish grooming and looked adorable. This is a friendly, family place...not a cookie-cuter franchise operation and the staff really treats each dog as if it were their own What a great thing for a busy person whose "best friend" needs a place with a big courtyard to "hang out" with buddies AND get a great grooming, too! Incidentally the groomer took a lot of time with me, making sure Mork getting just what wanted and the botanical shampoo they used was perfect for his occasionally allergic
reactions. A must for pampered pets!

I had to drop a friend's dog off to be borded at this grooming salon. First, they did not remember that the dog even had a reservation there. They looked in a paper ledger and finally found it. The manager (owner) seemed very spaced out, and was not paying attention to the dogs out front. They asked what our dog ate, and when we told them it was Merrick, they said that they had never heard of the brand. (EVERYONE with a dog knows Merrick!) Then they told us that we had to buy food for our friend's dog and bring it back. To make matters worse, there was a dog in the front with a huge cut on her forehead. I mentioned it to the manager and the staff member, and they just shrugged. I asked how the cut happened and they said they didnt know. They did not look at the wound, and they did not attend to it. When I told them that they should clean the wound, they shrugged again.
I asked to look at the daycare and boarding area, and they told me that it was off limits.
I have 2 dogs and I will NEVER bring my dogs to this place. I would rather travel 2 miles to Chelsea instead of down the block to this place.

Cons: Don't care if a dog is hurt! Apathetic staff and manager.

I've had nothing but positive experiences every time I've taken my Persian cat and tea-cup Poodle there. The owner, Jane, is a nice lady who is always willing to give me a discount when I buy her (already low-priced) products (they have really nice clothes, leashes, collars, etc.). The groomer I use, Sophia, is a sweet lady who not only gives great haircuts to dogs and cats, but you can tell really loves animals by the way she handles them and talks to them. She's extremely gentle. My dog, who is typically nervous and anxious, was actually licking her face while she was brushing her out yesterday. (I only know this because I decided to wait around and shop while my dog was being groomed so I got to see them in action, which, by the way, most grooming salons will not allow you to wait there while they groom your pet for whatever reason.) As a matter of fact, this is the only pet salon that my dog has never left nervous and shaking. It's nice to know I can feel safe leaving my pets there and know that they are in good hands with people who really love them and will take good care of them. In addition, they now have a bonus card where you get 25% off of the 10th groom. I highly recommend this salon.

Pros: Very easy to get a last-minute appointment.

Cons: None that I can think of.

I've been using East Village Pet Grooming for about 3 years, since my former groomer closed and, despite a rude groomer who has since been let go, I never had a problem until the most recent time I brought my cat in for grooming. My cat is a long hair and does get matted. But it has never been necessary in his 13 years for any groomer to shave him down. One groomer even told me that would be a lazy way out and he'd never do it unless the entire coat was knotted and there was no other way. So his beautiful coat has always been preserved by patient groomers and by me between groomings. This last time, he was less matted than usual. I said I didn't want a "lion cut" that I wanted him to look like the cat that he is. Nevertheless, when I went to pick him up, he had been completely shaved! He went from show quality to looking like ET in just an afternoon. The owner showed me that he'd had five mats. Since those were all on his abdomen, there was no necessity to shave his back and legs! I am heartbroken, can't look at him without crying, and my other cats don't seem to know who he is; they're treating him like he's the new cat in the house. He seems skittish and uncertain and he's always been the sweetest cat! It's been a trauma for all of us. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new groomer for when my baby's fur gros back. If your pet is a cat, stay away from East Village Grooming.

Pros: easy scheduling--never seems booked.

Cons: my review says it all--this is not a place to take your cat!

The worst experience i've ever had at a groomer!!! First of all the owner of this filthy establishment is a woman and she seemed like she was out of her mind and pushing unnecessary products on me to buy. When i walked in i was skeptical about hte place and wanted to walk back out. But trusted them that they woud hadle my dog with care and give him a nice trim. I came back to a dog that i hardly recognized AND to top it off they had razor burned him on his belly. I was so mad and even more mad that i didnt read these other customer reviews to see how horrible this groomers place is. Do NOT make the mistake of leaving your animal here.

I have a small mixchow, and she visits East Village grooming about once every three months. The staff are pretty friendly, the lady owner and the English guy who works there are nice, and seem to really care about the animals.
I'd recommend them. They use non-chemical shampoos and have a place at the back for the dogs to play. Its always supervised.

I have worked at East Village pet Grooming now for 9 months.
Israel was a groomer here who left over a year ago, and since then we have hired two excellent groomers.
Jane owns the business and really loves cats and dogs. Our regular customers can confirm that we care very much, and are professional.

They also have separate areas now for large and small dogs, so the probability of an accident is conservatively reduced.

So personally, i would feel pretty happy leaving my dog or cat with them.
If you want a real reference - just see the clients who walk out of there each day with a smile on their face.

I've read some of the new reviews and i can't believe this business still exists! The people that run this place clearly lack experience with animals and incoherent at times when asked questions. They DO NOT listen to what u have to say about how u would like ur pet's hair cut, they simply resort TO SHAVING IT ALLL OFF! And for these absolute morons that run this place--- when u shave a 3 month old puppy at a young age it ruins and changes their coat for good!!! I called 6 different groomers and they ALL told me it is absoutely unneccessary to shave such a young pup. A little time and patience would have gotten any minimal matting tthere MIGHT have been. When i went to pick up my puppy she was trembling and she han't been the same since. These clowns actually expect me to believe that a regularly COMBED 3 month old puppy can be matted so badly that it would require shaving! YOU CALL AND U ASK YOUR CUSTOMER not take it upon yourself to make that decision. My poor puppy's hair has changed in color and texture because of these lazy shisters. Not only am i going to keep posting reviews to inform unsuspecting pet owners who walk into this shady place and get screwed, I'm also going to call animal cruelty and report them so that they are not allowed to hurt or ruin another helpless animal.

A neighbor's French bulldog puppy was left unsupervised among much larger dogs and got so badly mauled by a bigger dog that she lost one eye altogether and lost vision in the surviving eye. EVGroomer's explanation? The attendant stepped away for coffee. Meanwhile this perfectly healthy & innocent puppy is blinded, scarred and traumatized for life while her owner, friends and neighbors are heartbroken beyond words. Don't let it happen to you.
