I went to Lindy's many years ago and never forgot how good the cheesecake was. Recently, I went again and had the cheesecake. It was just as delicious. I didn't eat anything else there, but they serve lunch and dinner. Our waitress was very nice. It is a little over priced, but the cheesecake was worth it.

My grandmother took me to Lindy's when I was a kid in the 60s, and the food was great. The cheesecake was even better than the dinner. it was light, creamy and just sweet enough without being too sweet.
I took my (then) new wife there a few weeks after we got married and ordered the cheesecake. I took one bite and called for the manager. The disgusting mass on my plate bore no more resemblance to Lindy's cheesecake than tofu does to a porterhouse steak. What I was served was dense, heavy, slightly sour and gritty. I demanded and got my money back and will never return. If you want GOOD NY cheesecake, go to Junior's in Brooklyn. Lindy's is lousy.

Cons: Overpriced and food that would make Leo Lindy cry.

My husband and I went to NYC to see a show and to have a weekend away. Since we are from Boston and have quite a few fine dining establishements where we are from, we decided to skip the fancy dining and to go with the popular local favorites while in NYC. Having stayed at the Sheraton NY, we were right across the street from Lindy's. It looked really nice from the outside. They claimed to have the "best" cheesecake amongst other good eats so we decided to go for breakfast on our last day. Surprisingly it was quite empty inside. Being so popular and all we expected it to be pretty busy. Once the menu came.....we knew why nobody was there. An average breakfast with eggs, toast, and bacon was WELL over $20. Of course they named their dishes something interesting to make them sound good like the "Jack Nickolson" but when you read what was on the plate it was basic breakfast items. A cup of coffee was $4.50 and a bagel with cream cheese which was one of the cheapest items on the menu was close to $9! We were close to leaving but decided to stay since we were already there. I ordered their quote "World Famous" cheesecake. It may be world famous but for all the wrong reasons. Sarah Lee frozen cheesecake is better! The only thing positive about our visit was being entertained by the other customers that walked in after us and the shocking look on their faces and comments that followed once they looked at the prices on the menu.

Ate at Lindy's in September of 2008. It was a very hot day and they wouldn't seat anyone inside. They made us sit outside in the heat! (maybe they don't have a.c.) The food was so incredibly expensive. I ended up getting mozzarella stick and my mom got chicken fingers and we split it. For the amount of money we paid there wasn't anything special about them. The waiter ignored us half the time. I will never eat here again and I would never recommend it to others. There are so many other places to eat in the city, don't waste your time on this place!!!

Pros: Good location

Cons: Food, Price, Staff...

I paid over $7 for one slice of original cheesecake at Lindy's.
Not only price too high but the cheesecake itself was horrorable.
It is shame that they posted 'World Famous Cheesecake' outside
of their restaurant as it is big false advertisement.
My advice is DO NOT GO TO LINDY'S FOR CHEESECAKE!!!

Pros: you can always find the seats due to not many customers.

Cons: over priced cheesecake that is worse than frozen instant one at super market.

Talk about a tourist trap. Should've known by how empty the place was. Nice-looking on the outside, God awful on the inside. Very expensive (children's menu at around $11.00/kid), if not charred hot dog, dull tasting club sandwich. There is nothing good to be said about this place. The tab was as high as if we had gone to a fancy restaurant for dinner, not a diner for a snack. Awful.

I wish I read these reviews before going here! Prices are astronomical and no kid's prices....
Fruit flies were all around our table and breakfast for 4 kids and 4 adults was $205.00 with tip!!!!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't go for free!!!!

Pros: waitress was excellent (of course because they get tipped well on 15% with these prices!)

Cons: food below average and way too pricey....disgusting prices

.

Absolutly the worst place I have ever been. The service was terrible. Waited 15 minutes for some horseradish which should have been served with the cornbeef or on the table. The waiter could not have cared less. This is the one place that I have ever stiffed the waiter.

The food was awful and at $20 for a crappy sandwich it ruined the rest of the day. Bread was stale, meat was fatty and tasteless. The sandwichs came with some coleslaw in a paper cup just slightly larger the the type you put ketchup in at Wendys. It was runny and not fresh either.

The only reason this place still exists is because of people like me who remember movies and such where Lindy's was a part.

Stay away. Even the cheesecake was stale and awful.

I will not eat in Lindy's when I'm in NY but I do order the cheesecakes to be delivered to my home. It is unfortunate that the food quality tanked and they price gouge because of the famous cheesecake. It's just ashame. While there are plenty of cheaper cheesecakes from popular mall factories, they are hypersugared confections that should not be called cheesecake. My family has been eating Lindy's cheesecakes since I was a child and they are true "cheese" cakes, the way a cheesecake is supposed to be. Not very sweet. They deliver anywhere in the country but order way in advance to get holiday delivery. Don't go to the restaurant diner. There are zillions of incredible restaurants and diners in New York, don't waste your time here. Just order cheesecake for delivery and you'll be fine.

If you want to taste the most revolting food at laughably high prices check out Lindy's, where you will also find incompetent service with an attitude. This is no exaggeration.

We just visited NYC and thought we'd try Lindy's. We saw people walking out complaining that they had sat too long at their tables without service. The prices were slightly higher than Carnegie and the portions were half the size. My daughter ordered lox and bagels and it was terrible. The lox were not trimmed and were mostly brown. Those parts that were not brown were hard -- apparently from sitting out too long. When I pointed this out to the waiter he told me that "all of the lox" is like that. It seemed that the waiter randomly decided which tables he would be nice to and which he would ignore. Our service was not bad but people all around us were getting frustrated and walking out. Do not waste your time or money on this place. New York offers so much more.

Made the mistake of going here with out of town guests prior to moving to NYC. The WORST meal I've ever had in my life! The prices were horrible as well, as any place usually is in Times Square. The awful cheese omlet that I had was $12 and arrived ice cold. Even the coffee was horrendous.....very weak with no flavor and coffee grounds floating in it. Go anywhere but here!

Most unsatisfying experience I've ever had at a NY restaurant, and I am not prone to exaggeration. The food is thoroughly average diner fare, comparable to what you'd find at any truck stop in the country. The difference is that the prices here are extortionist - $17.00 for a burger? This place is your classic tourist trap, attracting people based on some vague name recognition. To top it off, the service was extremely poor. Avoid this place like the plague.

We, 2 people, went here after being the the studio audience of Good Morning America on a Monday morning. I usually try not to go anywhere in Times Square to eat. You can get better food, quality and priced, in other areas of NY City. None the less, we were hungry so we went there. They sent us downstairs, which was very quiet. Only one other couple down there. We both had breakfast. Mom had Lox and bagel. I had 2 eggs over med. I figure those are pretty hard to screw up. We both had coffee, which the waiter (nice guy) kept filling for us without us asking. Our total for this was about $30 including tip. I think this is very expensive for breakfast. But oh well. If I had the choice again, I'd go here if I had too but would prefer somewhere else.

The over-priced food aside, the service here was terrible. The waitor refused to pick up our plates after we were finished and was very rude throughout the entire meal. And when I left him a VERY tiny tup, which he deserved, he actually started yelling at us!!! Even the cheesecake was not memorable enough to warrent coming back.

Businesses don't just fail - they fail to change. On a recent visit to Times Square, we decided to catch a sandwich somewhere and popped into Lindy's. For starters, the ambience is archaic. It isn't new or energetic - it is stale. The place wasn't very clean either. The hostess escorted us past empty tables and booths to seat us (3 women) in front of the kitchen door. We asked to be seated in a booth instead and were (this time next to the beverage station), but the damage (the insult) was done. When we saw the $17 price tag on an egg salad sandwich, we decided Lindy's didn't have anything we wanted.

This place was WAY overpriced and the food was nothing to write home about. I do not know how they stay in business except that they rip people off royaly. The service was not good and I did not enjoy our meal there. I would never eat there ever again. What a waste!

I think they try to seat people downstairs so it's harder to bolt when you see their prices. So-so food, overpriced (at least for breakfast). The waitress kept vetoing people's orders (e.g. "You don't want the corned beef hash. It comes from a can." Apparently a favorite with the famous decades ago, but nothing impressive today.

Decided to have lunch here, as we've heard the cheesecake is good. When the waitress came over to take our order, she said there was a 20 minute wait on all orders since the kitchen staff was back logged. We decided to order soup (over $6 a bowl), thinking that would be quick, however our waitress then said the soup is OUT OF A CAN and still would be a 20 minute wait since the tickets are processed in order. We then left and ate somewhere else. The food is very overpriced. $15 for a sandwich, which didn't seem to include anything else. $3.50 for a coke, includes free refills, but how much coke does the average person drink?
