We went to this place last minute because we were staying next door at La Quinta Inn.We got in on a Sat. night around 9pm...we sat uptairs. It was hopping...lots of people...sizzling plates...the smell was great (if you like an open-pit grilling camp-smell)...I do. We sat in the back near the kitchen door, the Asian waiters and Latino bus boys carrying food and hot coals around like busy bees. The atmosphere was kind of cozy at the time. Low-lighting, busy chatter of the customers...it was pouring rain outside.A nice, warm feel after being cold and wet all day. They just gave us 6-8 little appetizer bowls of what I think was stuff like Kimchee, (which I like) vinegared green beans, beansprouts, deep fried tofu, a sweet/sour shredded cabbage mix..etc.it was different, but good. My friend ordered pork fried rice, I ordered the beef teryaki. It was good. He LOVED the rice (wanted more) and the beef was great..good flavor, tender, BUT they did not trim the fatty parts off well. Yummy carrots, peas and green peppers splattered the dish. It came with a side of steamed white rice. It was good. It was my first time in a real Korean place, but I would go back...sorry to hear the others had a not-so-pleasant experience.Best part..we only had to walk 2 doors down to the hotel. It is close to the subway, Megabus station, Empire State Bldg...I would recommend it, even if for just one visit.

THIS RESTAURANT IS HORRIBLE! DONT EVER GO. THEY USE ROTTEN INGREDIENTS!

NYC was really cold and we were tired of walking. We were looking for something warm to eat and saw their sign for "SAHM GEH TAHNG"
Right when we went in a waitress asked if we were eating bbq. We said no we wanted something with hot soup. They led us to the 2nd floor and sat us at the horrible place possible. (there was a door next to us where they were using to cool hot metal plate for bbq and wind was coming through the opened door) We asked why we can't sit other places where its warm and they said that was for bbq eaters.
Later we saw that non-bbq eaters were sitting except they were whites.
I wish that was the only bad thing about this restaurant. IT GETS WORSE.

Korean ginseng in "Sam Geh Tahng" has lost its form and it was all mushy. Garlic slices were so black. chestnut was all mushy too and tasted like soft wood. Dates were in a jelly form that were all ripped apart.
This piece of rotten food was $18.99.
First they didn't know the exact price of the dish.
Then they said it's between $16 to $18.

If they are only going to sell bbq, why did they put up the sign saying "Sahm Geh Tahng"?!

Horrible service and Horrible food.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR ENERGY AND MONEY HERE!
THEY ARE THE WORST RESTAURANT EVER.

Wonjo's is a run of the mill Korean barbecue place, neither great nor terrible. But why eat there when there are so many great alternatives nearby? If you do go, try to sit upstairs.
