THIS BUISNESS HAS BEEN LETTING IN UNDERAGE CUSTOMER INTO THEIR RESTAURANT, DRINKING! ON THEIR SATURDAYS WHERE THEY HAVE THE NIGHT CLUB GOING ON, THEY ARENT CHECKING ID'S ON MOST OF THEM JUST LETTING THEM PAY THE COVER CHARGE AND LETTED IN. THIS PLACE IS KNOWN FOR DISCRIMINATION ON OTHER TYPES OF RACE BESIDES THEIR OWN "HISPANICS" TELLING OTHER RACE THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE I WOULD NEVER IN MY LIFE RECCOMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANYONE AT ALL.. THIS ALL HAS BEEN REPORTED TO BAD BUISNESS BUREAU... AND LABOR AND INDUSTRIES AND OREGON LIQUOR.. THE OWNER DID NOT DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS AT ALL, HE/SHE JUST DIDNT CARE ABOUT THE SITUATION.. NOTED NOT A PLACE TO BE IF YOU WANT 100% BAD SERVICE

Ive been at La Fonda Restaurant located at 3rd and Alder many of times and i always walk out satisfied wit what i eat and what i drink. every time i come in i always feel so welcomed with the service the waiters provide it makes me feel comfortable eating there, they"re always so friendly. i cant say that i always expect 2 have some real Mexican food because every restaurant has their own touch. but when i came in here and tried a plate of "Fajitas Mix" wit a lime Margarita on the Rocks i was impressed on how great everything was it was so delicious n i said to myself im definitely coming back. n so i have, i come 2 to 3 times a week whether is for some good tasty lunch to eat their really good Enchiladas or homemade Tamales, also the Chile Rellenos or just some soft tacos wit their homemade spicy salsas and like i said before i always walk out satisfied. i really would recommend people 2 to go in and try it for themselves. Also i read the reviews from these other folks they're talking bout a restaurants that no longer exists. i did try El Palmero once n it was so disgusting.all i had was a steak quesadilla and it was so bad i couldnt even finish it the meat was so hard i thought i was chewing on gum and im glad they changed ownerships is better this way but like i said i would recommend people to go in and try it for themselves and see how good this restaurant is. ill definitely will keep coming back and bringing more friends each time. one more thing that picture up there is not from La Fonda Restaurant.

Pros: good margaritas and very good food

I went there expecting my usual Super Nacho w/ the marinated shredded chicken, lots of cheese, oven-baked so the chips and cheese are crunchy on the edges...and what I got was covered w/ lettuce and tomatoes and pico de gallo w/ (which I had specifically requested to be omitted). They tried to make it again this time it came out I was hungry so I thought I'd give it a try anyway, but it was made with stale chips, grilled funny-tasting chicken, barely a sprinkle of cheese (serioiusly less than 1/4 cup) and then they smeared refried beans all over the top of it. I couldn't eat it it was so disgusting. I told them it wasn't what I wanted and then the bus boy told me they had new owners, new cook, etc. I know they tried, but I was still annoyed that they charged me over $9 for an inedible lunch. I won't be going back. I miss the old owner and his wonderful cook. If you guys open a new restaurant let me know!

Pros: They tried twice to make me what I wanted.

Cons: My waitress couldn't understand my English, and the food was inedible.

Don't get me wrong. I love Peruvian "fusion" food (a la Andina) just as much as any other person in Portland, but I grew up eating traditional Peruvian food, the delicious kind that you find in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant down the street. When I moved to Portland, I was disappointed, not having found such traditional fare. The lomo saltado provided in fusion restaurants never cut it. It always seemed to be a dressed up, fancier version of a damn good original. The lomo saltado at this restaurant is good. I suggest your try this restaurant for its Peruvian cuisine.

When we went (6ish on Friday) the place was absolutely empty. I guess you just need to show up outside of happy hour to have plenty of space. Nowhere else have I had a passable pisco sour in this town. Only problem was that they were blended. Make them over ice people! Food was very tasty and just like the food I've had in Peru. Oh so flavorful and not too greasy. Price was a wee bit high for the portion size but well worth if for the flavor bonanza.

Pros: pisco sour, authentic peruvian, música buena

Cons: price, quiet - nobody there

I can't believe that people are giving this place 10 out of 10. It's a great little place to get a burrito, but the food is not that great, the prices aren't all that.

The best thing about this restaurant, in my opinion, is NOT the happy hour. They DO NOT have $2 margaritas, they surely WOULDN'T give you a taco for a buck, and it DEFINITELY IS ALWAYS OVERCROWDED. I repeat, YOU DON'T REALLY WANT TO GO HERE FOR HAPPY HOUR.

If you should ignore my advice, I guess I'll see you there Friday.

There are only three words to describe this zesty mexican restaurant. Mmm, Mmm, Mmm. And yes I am talking about the food.I am usually very picky and critical about restaurants, but this place was so good I am thinking about sharing my newfound fortune with others. If you ever go there, ask for the beef enchilada with a side of beans and rice, it is finger-lickin good. I had passed by there on my way to an interview, looked back and decided I'd come back, good thing I did. Plus, the service there is just as good as the food, and they have a TV playing the latest Latino music.

El Palmero's been around since 1996. They just expanded their restaurant and are quickly putting in the finishing touches. Fortunately, they are maintaining the great ambience, even though in a bigger space.
The food is the thing here. Excellent, fresh, clean and apparently, authentic, Mexican food. I love the warm chips with fresh salsa that arrives as soon as you sit down. The prices are amazing. The margaritas are great and cheap. They even want to have free salsa lessons as soon as their floor is in. Excellent happy-hour place.
