I love everything about this place: the food, the service, the art, the Art Deco building, all tastefully done. I highly recommend it. Five stars plus.

The owner and staff here are racsist and uppity snobs. I've lived here my entire life and these people do not represent Ventura at all. Take your crappy restaurant and get out of town.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Giving Ventura a bad rep

.

Underwhelming.

For the premium price and surroundings I expected much, much more. The servers are strained, at best, just plain aloof and rude at worst, and for the most part entirely unfamiliar with any culinary aspect of what they are doing. And when they try to pass themselves off as sommeliers, it's embarrassing to watch.

The food is trite, beyond that there's not much more to say. It is what's lacking that is most notable. A menu without a clear sense of direction or place is what you can expect, with much too much effort and focus being placed on the exclusivity of individual dishes rather than on a cohesive and fluid dining experience.

Yes, most Venturans seem impressed and excited, but really, what else is there? For the price, the place comes up short compared to less pretentious places just up or down the coast. and there is much better fare in town but without all the hype...but hype is what I suspect is the main draw of the establishment..."Valet parking in Ventura? I'm there!"

So, if hype is what your into, all style and no substance, and you just want to make believe your a high roller when it comes to dining...then put on your collared shirt and your best watch and go on down to the Watermark. Eat something tiny, have a few glasses of overpriced and poorly selected wine...and then sneak off to somewhere else and have a real dinner.

Pros: Valet parking in Ventura! OMG!

Cons: the whole experience

Just walking into this place will dazzle you. It is absolutely beautiful, from the building itself, to the artwork throughout, to the element of class it gives. Yet the feel of the place is laid-back and relaxed. Not pretentious at all. You won't forget it, or the experience.
The food is superior, and can be artwork of its own on one's taste buds. But there is far more to the Watermark. Just walk upstairs, or take the elevator depending on how high your heels are.
W20 is the upstairs lounge that is bathed in the coolest blue glow. You'll see aquariums, fireplaces, couches, more artwork, flatscreens in the bathrooms, and one of the most coziest patios that overlook the city.
Thursday nights have a Blues band with brilliant musicians, and there are always more ready to sit in with them, from Sax to vocals to Guitar. You'll have no choice but to be up and dancing to this band, they'll have you rockin'. Thursdays close down at 11pm, so you'll be able to get home and sleep before work on Friday.
Sundays are no dress code and are packed with happy people listening to yet more great bands, dancing and just having a good time in general. And from what I've seen so far, no barriers exist on who's welcome and who's not. It's a great mix of people. And from the look of it, they're all having alot of fun.
The staff, I've found, are like one big happy family. They are down to earth, always smiling, you won't be waiting on a drink, and they make you feel like you are a part of the place. As well as the management, who are super friendly, laid-back and committed to their craft.
There is a parking garage just behind it, so it makes it easy to get in and out. I'm not sure, but I think I've seen valet on certain nights too.
I highly recommend the experience of the Watermark. All of the bars and restaurants downtown Ventura have their own cool, unique feel to them, but this one tends to leave a mark on you, and you want to go back for more.

Pros: Just about everything.

Cons: None.

I absolutely love this place, and first experienced it as Natalie's Fine Threads. The expansion is wonderfully done, and the third floor bar looks to be the main draw. BUT..... Dining was a bland and indifferent experience. The four of us has a full course meal, and each dish was bland and indifferent. The "Watermark" Sarah was undrinkable, the French Press coffee bitter. The prices are premium, but I'd rather go to Spago in BH for the same price, or any dive with tasty food. The waitstaff was adequate when the looked up, but were rather inattentive. Next time, I'm going back to Brooks.

First of all, I usually have to leave Ventura to drink or dine in the kind of establishments that I normally go to, I LOVE IT! Ventura finally has an elegant, sophisticated, fun, and quality restaurant. I love seafood, so I go straight for the Ahi Salad on the W20 menu, as well as the chili dusted prawns that make anyone sitting near this dish mouth water. The other patrons also make it a great experience- I have fun every time!

I have treated myself to The Watermark/ W20 Restaurant on many occasion. I constantly refer my friends and colleauges to expierence the tremendous job they have done from top to bottom. The building itself is remarkable, the food is exquisite (my favorite being the lamb) and the staff is more than accomidating and friendly! As a resident of Ventura County for almost 25 years, I am truely grateful to have such a brilliant establishment right here in town.

Last Sunday I had some friends in town and brought them to Watermarks Sunday brunch. They were continually saying how amazing everything was. After we ate, we headed to the third floor to enjoy the live band our waitress notified us of and I had the best bloody mary in my entire life. The band was very entertaining and we ended up spending most of what we like to call Sunday Funday enjoying what this fine establishment had to offer!

WOW, is pretty much all I have to say. When I first walked in my mouth dropped to the floor. Everything from the decor to the service was WOW!!!!!!!

Not only will I be back, maybe their new #1 customer, but I will refer them to my friends, family, and even people I don't even know.

If you haven't been in yet, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!

WOW! Food could not be better in my opinion. The beautifully remastered historic landmark fits in perfectly with the pristine beach scene of Ventura. We were greeted warmly by not only the hostesses at the door, but by a precession of smiling faces and friendly hellos from near by wait staff. The hostess showed us to our table, letting us know the amazing history of the building along the way and even offerred us a full tour after dinner. We were greeted right away by a friendly and knowledgable young man, who upon being asked, offered us a detailed description of the many wines on the extensive wine list. Our meal was fantastic. I ordered the artichoke ravioli, which exceeded my expectations, followed by the rich and delicious three layer cake. We were very well taken care of and wished to express our gratitude to the manager, a lovely young woman who kindly thanked us for the feedback and bid us come back soon. We most certainly will!

The food was good. The building and decor are beautifully done. But the management is absolutely terrible! These people are rude and arrogant and I will never go to this restaurant again. For what they charge for their food and drinks they should be aware that they are NOT the only restaurant/bar in town. The manager needs lessons on how to treat people. She is an arrogant brat who should not be managing ANYTHING!

the dark woods, pictures & restoration of something historic all add to the ambiance. been twice and loved it; the 1st time i felt like i was in a new york or chicago setting. the top floor is a gathering place for upscale singles and couples. first time we sat and the bar and had a light dinner which was excellent. the 2nd time we had reservations and the service was the best. going back againt this weekend.

Forget going to the watermark if you're mexican or black. The head bartender and the owner will be more than happy to let you know that you are not welcome. The red and white (look it up in wiki) has stepped it up a notch in Ventura. So sad.

Pros: was nice before being confronted with the ugly face of racism and eleitism

Cons: see above

My, friend an I spend a lot of weekends in Venture downtown. We watched this being built and were excited to see it open.We walked in and at the guest stand were two women and a grey haired gentleman. We said ' Hello' and we got no eye contact, no smile and a cold ' can I help you"
. We asked about the seating and they said bottom floor and the bar was there, and pointed to it. We asked about the up stairs and she said we could go up. We started up and discovered we could not go up we both had shorts on , we were suprised,It was five o'clock and the place was empty.
It would have been nice to invite us up to just see the new place but I guess they don't want to show people around.,

They were too busy not smiling.

Not my idea of a friendly place.

One of the most remarkable things about this restaurant is the building that it's in - outside it is an unusual and fantastic combination of brick and 1920's craftsman style tile; and inside an amazing intact 1920's interior that has been obviously lovingly restored. The murals are absolutely beautiful as is the original ceiling, woodwork, ironwork, etc. The quality of the food is equal to the setting - the grilled chili rubbed prawns are excellent and the Linguini with clams and chorizo is a great combination of flavors.
