Scotty Too Hotty (as my friends called him) is your typical 40-something wanting to hang-on to the party lifestyle of someone in their 20s. We all know guys like this, and really there's nothing wrong with chasing hot college girls, dressing like a frat boy from an 80s movie, or partying like a rock star. They guy can do this with the best of them.
Therein lies the problem with Scotty and Lighthouse Realty . And I should have noticed it right away. Despite claims of owning a boat (lie), bottle service at clubs, and owning/selling some of the best pieces of real estate in Pt. Loma, the guy is ALWAYS searching for cash. The second month of living in his property, he calls and asks if he can get rent in cash a couple days early. No problem since he was taking 10 percent off for our inconvenience. But this was the start of a pattern of always looking for quick cash. Not what you want from a landlord, especially when things break or water bills are "misplaced by the water company" for the third month in a row.
Want to party with Scotty Too Hotty? Have fun at Captain's Quarters. Just avoid him as a landlord.

Pros: 10% off when he's jonesin' for cash & asks to pay rent early
Cons: When he's jonesin' for cash
Scotty is a great guy. Good people. Fun to chat with. Probably fun to have a beer with. Just do yourself a favor and don't conduct any business with him ever.
Rented from him for a few years. When something broke or plumbing went bad you would have to front the money and take it out of rent. He was never able to (or never willing to) make the neccesary repairs that we requested. 3 different times our water was shut off because he never paid the water bill (which he was responsible for paying). Including one time where it was shut off on a Friday. Hey, who needs water during the entire weekend anyways?!
The best part of all is when he decided to not return the 2k security deposit. Any.of.it. This despite that fact the the unit was kept in great condition and the surrounding common areas were actually improved with our landsaping (out of our own pockets).
He submitted a fake invoice of all the items that needed replacing. My favorite was being charged for the plumbing problems that we had asked him to fix for years.
So yeah, good people. If you don't mind living without water, if you don't mind having a landlord who is completely unaccountable, and if you aren't planning on getting any of your deposit back then Scott Higgs is your man! Vaya con Dios!

Pros: Nice Guy
Cons: Too many to list here
Realtors.
0Realtors.
Scott seemed very nice from the get-go, very charming and seemed to be saying all the right things. However, things went south very quickly and he turned out to be a dishonest, and very rude person, in addition to being a drunk. He does both real estate and also proeprty rentals and I would not wish anyone to have to deal with him.
