This is an excellent store. Good frame selection. Very good prices. But their greatest strength is customer service. I really like Charlotte (an excellent business woman as well as optician) and Christine N. (there are two Christines, but I've only had experience with one of the Christines).

Let me also say that I've purchased glasses for many years, but this store surprised me. I've been buying glasses at Walmart (and elsewhere) for a few years now (not the Riverhead Walmart though), and I never thought anyone could consistently beat big chain prices, but the Riverhead Cohen's Optical store does beat Walmart every time. At least it did for us.

And the customer service is really very good. Better than any other eyeglass store I've ever gone to.

For example, my wife bought a pair of glasses here first. They did such good work -- and the price was so reasonable -- that I subsequently bought a pair of prescription sunglasses for myself. My price was also very good, and the work was excellent. In fact, I liked the work so much that I ordered another pair of glasses (non-sunglasses). Shortly thereafter, I had broken the ear tips of my sunglasses and Charlotte replaced the tips without any problem or cost. Not only this, she did this with a genuine smile and without me feeling uncomfortable about asking for a repair on a pair of sunglasses I'd purchased 8 months earlier. A lot of places charge extra for a repair or they offer a service contract for a year or two. Charlotte repaired my glasses at no charge. And without a service contract.

Bottom line, my wife and I are really sold on this place. We realize that no business is perfect, but this particular Cohen's Optical seems as close to perfect as you can get. Good prices, and exceptional customer service with a genuine smile.

The only "complaint" I have is that they clean lenses with Bounty paper towels. I commented on this to the staff, but I couldn't seem to convince them that Bounty paper towels can potentially scratch lenses. They are technically made of paper (hence the name "paper" towels). My experience has been that paper towels can scratch the lenses ever so slightly, even when wet. Not major scratches, but tiny scratches that are only seen -- for example -- when watching a bright TV screen in the dark. Over time, these tiny scratches also build up. I know this from my own experience because I've gradually scratched a pair of lenses in the past using paper towels, even when using soap and water.

Other than this minor "complaint," I highly recommend this store. Just ask them not to use Bounty towels!
