I don't know where you two reviewers were eating, but it was not at the Red Lantern.

The wait staff was prompt and polite, and the food AMAZINGLY good. As a person of Chinese descent, a New Yorker (face it, NYC has great Chinese food), and someone who claims Chinese as her favorite form of food, I think I know my Chinese dishes. I grew up with them. The cook at Red Lantern is better than any other restaurant I've tried in Miami.

Everything was fresh!

The Braised Tofu Vegetarian dish has a sauce to die for, and the Black Bean Sizzling Chicken was so good that my two friends almost licked the bowl. They have a nice and varied selection on their menu, and it's a great location in the Grove.

Perhaps when the other two reviews were written, this restaurant was under different management. But as of August 1st, 2006, this restaurant has amazingly fresh vegetables, polite waiters, and absolutely divine dishes. If I choose which meal to die after, this would be the one.

(They also deliver, and I'm now using them as my sole Chinese delivery when I'm in Miami.)

Pros: AMAZING taste! Polite and precise wait staff! Great location in the Grove!

Cons: Lighting is so-so, decor is unimportant... but the food is so good that you forget.

I have to say this is some of the worst Chinese I have ever eaten. The Red Lantern Special Soup was a dark brown bowl of tasteless cornstartch, some meat and bland vegetables, the pot stickers were mediocre with an overly sweet soy dipping sauce and the Shrimp and Whole Garlic Claypot was awful. The sauce was remarkably similar to the Special Soup, a thick cornstarch tasteless concotion, the shrimp were mushy and the vegetables were overcooked. While Miami is not known for it's chinese food, this was beyond awful. Unfortunately there are no other Chinese restaurants in the Grove that deliver.... Next time I'm in the mood for delivery I'll order pizza instead.

This place used to be good. While there might be something still special on the menu (haven't run into it) most of the food is non-distinct chinese food you can get anywhere. Some of it is actually bad. The general tso's chicken is like preprocessed mcnuggets with goop and the orange beef is breaded beef with yet more goop. The wonton soup verges on flavored water and is one of the worst I've tasted. I live in the Grove and usually eat at Chrysanthenum which has much superior Chinese food, but alas they don't deliver and Red Lantern does so every now and then I give them a chance in delivery and have always regretted it. No more.
