Downtown Dog Lounge is truly as good as it gets. Our golden doodle, Oscar, has been a regular visitor since he was a puppy. The staff are the most caring, fun, and expert professionals you can imagine. Plus their intake and pick-up

DO NOT GO TO THE DOWNTOWN DOG LOUNGE for GROOMING! Kathleen groomed my 7 month old puppy last week. After I got home, my puppy jumped on my lap and had a bloody mouth! I took her to the vet immediately and found out she had a tongue laceration 2/3 the length of her tongue. It started at the side and went all the way to the front middle tip of her tongue. The vet said it was a clean cut all the way through. He and I were suspicious of the groomer. It definately looked like a cut from scissors. The funny thing is the when Kathleen the groomer called me to pick up Mochi, she warned me that Mochi was really wiggly and that she did the best she could. I thought that was a little weird, and was expecting a funny hair cut, not a cut tongue! Mochi had to get emergency surgery and stay the night at the vet. The vet was able to save most of her tongue, however, part of it had to be removed because it was already dead.

We called the DDL immemdiately and asked them to have Kathleen call us back the next day when she arrived at work. She did not call us, so we showed up to the DDL the next day. When asking her about the incident, she said she "may have nicked Mochi's tongue, but did not notice anything". What?? She was basically admitting to it, but not confirming it. Of course, the DDL said that they could not know for sure that it happened there, so they would refund the grooming, but not cover the $700 vet bill. I don't even care so much about he money, I just want them to own up to the incident! If they had just told me it happened, I could have gotten Mochi to the vet earlier and may have been able to save her entire tongue.

DDL is irresponsible and needs to train their groomers better. When I asked to speak to the owner Elise, they said she would call me within a day. She did not! It's been a week and I have not heard a thing from her. She obviously only cares about making money and covering her company's reputation. She DOES NOT CARE ABOUT the WELL BEING of DOGS!! Downtown Dog Lounge is NOT a safe place for anyone's pets. Please pass the word on to anyone who may think if taking their dog there.

Cons: Horrible owner and dangerous groomer

After a week long vacation, I was surprised to find my dog with a massive infected head wound upon pickup at the downtown dog lounge. The staff was adamant that the injury didn't occur while in their care, however he didn't have it when I dropped him off. Due to infection of the deep wound, my dog had to be put down shortly thereafter.

After working for a short time as a groomer @ the Elliot st. location, I was simply shocked and appalled at the lack of training the (grooming) staff had of how to groom or even properly bathe a dog. Dogs were left unsupervised on tables and in bathtubs where they could easily choke themselves by stepping off the table, Dogs falling off the table is REGULAR OCCURRENCE.
Dogs were forgotten about in kennels w/out water, sometimes for hours, due to inability of the person at the front desk to properly check in a client.
Dogs are allowed to wander freely around the salon, where they would pester and stress out other dogs on being groomed on the tables and regularly knock tools such as clippers and scissors down onto themselves, risking serious injury or worse.

ANIMALS WHERE NEVER TAKEN OUTSIDE, pens are cleaned with RAW UNDILUTED BLEACH
General staff is very poorly trained with generally no experience or education of proper animal handling

**DDL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN**

After taking my dog here I will never go back. There are WAY too many dogs here with very little supervision. The place smells REALLY bad. It seems as though it puts on a good front but is not all about the care of the dogs, its all about the money. Steer clear if you love your dog!!!

I have used DDL since 2006. My experience has been uniformly good. From the webcams to daily updates on my dog's day, I know that I have trusted my dog to a caring group of people. They really do care about dog safety and are excellent about lettting me know if they have medical concerns. They nurtured my old dog until he died and then sent me the most wonderful sympathy card with nice comments by all of the wranglers who touched his life.

They are now giving the same love to my new dog. I can not say enough positive things about this place. I have only had good experiences with the staff and management., especially Elise and Pat. The young people who work there are really committed to the dogs. I get timely phone calls and written reports if there is a '"playmate or behavior" issue. Oftentimes I get more information than I did when my son was in daycare!

I am a choosey consumer and really recommend DDL on Elliott. My dogs have flourished there!

I took my Havanese to the Downtown Dog Lounge to be groomed. He is 14 months old, and has been groomed 6 times previously with no complaints. He also has been through obedience classes and goes to day care once a week - where he receives compliments for how well-adjusted he is. This was his 3rd time at DDL - his first time, he was groomed by Erin who said he did great and said she would like to see him again. This last time, he was groomed by someone else, whose name I did not get.

When I picked him up after his groom, the groomer came out to speak with me. She told me that he had a TERRIBLE time being groomed that day. She said, I have a very small table and he was all over it, avoiding being groomed and fighting me, and falling off the table. She said that he got so upset he "gave himself" a bloody nose and then was put in a kennel for 45 minutes to try to calm down. When I asked what she suggested to prevent this from happening again, she said she recommended I get him groomed every three weeks until he learned to enjoy it (at $60 a grooming session).

While I, personally, am horrified that my dog went through that for a haircut, I leave it to you to determine whether you feel comfortable taking your dog there for a groom.

I frequently use the DDL Capitol Hill location as its close to my home. I use the Elliott location if I'm running late and need to drop off closer to work. I drop my dogs off Monday through Friday and whenever I need to board them. They absolutely LOVE this place and get excited the second we get into the car.

DDL is a great alternative to leaving your dog at home during the day. I have a 55lb dog and he gets more than enough exercise during the day in the big dog playground, and my small old dog gets to relax in the zen den.

I have tried a few other dog daycare facilities in the area but Downtown Dog Lounge is the best because of its 3 locations, low prices (actually the lowest food prices I have found anywhere), webcams, one-stop-shopping (grooming, training, vet, boarding, etc), and friendly staff. I recommend this place all the time.

Not so great there's even a web site with unhappy former clients. There are not enough people in the dog area to handle the 40 plus dogs in wach area. This place does smell of urine and there are always new faces, rarely the same people month to month.

Here's the web site=== there is a geocities under---consumersagainstddl

We boarded our dogs here for four days and it was awful. Services offered, are not services provided. They didn't get a single walk outside, in fact didn't see the light of day the entire stay. Worse, they were let out at 10:45a.m., were left out for an hour and a half for fece cleanup, recaged, and let out in the afternoon for an hour and a half. The other reviewer is correct, it has "the look", but doesn't follow up on services. I as well was appalled that dogs went to the bathroom inside, on the floor. My veterinarian said that even in emergency hospitals it is mandatory that dogs get out of their kennels every 8 hours, at the very least. Not so at the Downtown Dog Lounge. Do not board your dog here.

Gracie always bounces in joyfully. I've left her there as long as 5 nights and she was fine. I'm surprised at the other reviews. Gracie was clean when she came home and remained completely house trained. They just changed the rules: now you have to bring food. If you forget, you can just buy a bag of food right there and claim whatever's left.

When Gracie stays over I bring her Kong toy and they add peanut butter...just like home!
They obviously know their dogs and Gracie obviously adores the staff.

And if I need a half day off, it's convenient to drop her off for a few hours of play so she gets her exercise while I have fun. I always ask them to walk the dog (no extra charge) so she gets a chance to do business as usual.

Pros: friendly staff, dog loves it - they're cage-free by day and sleep in kennels at night

Cons: a bit pricey ; wish they had longer hours on weekends

After leaving my dog there for a weekend, he came home smelly and confused. Him being able to urinate and defecate inside gave him the idea that it was OK to come home and do the same!!! They need somewhere outside to go and do their business since he came home stinky. For $39 it should be topnotch!

While the facilities at both the Elliott and Belltown locations LOOK hip and nicely appointed they both have horrible smells of urine and feces. Every time my dog has stayed overnight she has returned with a terrible smell. I have traveled extensively and used many animal boarding facilities and none have ever had these smells or left my dog smelling putrid. In addition, they are incredibly overpriced. They charge you $39 to board for 1 night and then throw a $3 extra charge on at checkout without telling you if you choose to use their food instead of bringing your own. I wouldn't mind paying the money if I felt the place provided a quality place for my little pup! Lastly, I have had mixed experiences with the staff demeanor ranging from over-the-top nice to beyond necessary snottiness.

We've been taking our dogs to the Lounge for two years now and are really happy with both facilities. The owner, Elise, is wonderful and will bend over backwards for both your pups and you. We've used many doggy daycares over the years in both California and Washington and have never known a better facility. The onsite vet and groomer are invaluable and the people really care about your dogs and take excellent care of them.
