Like Juphia (see her posting), I too was a member of the Bellevue Massage Heights. I also didn't get notified about the office closing down. I happened to call on the last day and was lucky enough to get a 1-hr appt, but I still have a few hours left and a few more months before I fulfill my one-year commitment.

Massage Heights Corporate is a real stinker. The Bellevue staff (receptionists and therapists) were only given a few days notice that the place was shutting down. They were told that Corporate was notifying members through the mail (but it's been several weeks and I still haven't gotten anything). On top of having to deal with suddenly being out of a job in this economy, the staff also had to face all the angry members. I really felt for them, they were very brave and sweet.

I was given a phone number for Corporate (210 402 0777). The person in charge (Russell Hoff) was "out of town," leaving some poor underling to answer the phone and get yelled at by angry members. The underling apologized profusely, but didn't have any authority, all she could recommend was that I email Hoff, rhoff@massageheights (CitySearch won't allow me to add the dotcom suffix to his mail address).

I did, and I asked to have my membership cancelled and the remainder of my prepaids converted to gift certificates, but he refused. He said that policy is that since there is another MH in Washington, unless it's further than 25 miles from where I live, that I have to serve out the rest of my contract year with them. (And if I do live more than 25 miles away I have to prove it by submitting a copy of my utility bill).

The remaining MH is in Ballard, which is 45 minutes away for me (in light traffic), but less than 25 miles, so I'm hosed.

The owners in Ballard are very nice, but they are limited in what they can do. They said each Massage Heights is an individually owned franchise. The individual office doesn't get the money for the prepaids, Corporate does. AFTER a member uses their prepaid credit, the local office contacts Corporate and gets reimbursed for the massage ($39.99 for an hour). So, although our membership has been transferred to Ballard (since it's the only MH in Washington state), it's not like Ballard is sitting on all the money we've given to Massage Heights. The money is with Corporate.

Ballard says they have better therapists than Bellevue. I don't know if that is true, but I did get one massage there and the therapist was good and someone I would go back to (which is really good, because I will have to go back there 2 more times).

Pros: Decent massage--if you get a good therapist

Cons: Inflexible CORPORATE policies. No consideration for members.

I was a member with them for one year, but since I am pretty busy, I have 6 prepaid ($300) paid and didn't use. for these 2 months I tried to make an appointment with them, but they claimed they are always busy, and their therapist are fully booked. Finally I was able to reach them last night and questions why there were so few therapist available. Then I was told that they are closing today. Without advance notifying. I am asking full refund of my money, calling their coporate office again and again. But their boss are never able to pick up the phones. Either in a conference or on a business trip. Absolutely a liar!!

Anyone know where and how I can get my money back?

Massage Heights (Bellevue Location) is an absolute scam. Their massage therapists are not worth the $40 massage and their membership policy is a joke. When you sign up for their so called "6 month membership" you have to jump through rings of fire to cancel. They continue to take money out of your account even when you try to cancel and no longer are contracted for their services. The price can be appealing... but don't get sucked in, you will regret it. Also, once again their massage therapist are no good... probably don't even have their license or training.

Pros: Price

Cons: Quality, Customer Service, "Hidden Policies"

I really wasn't sure what to expect scheduling a massage from Massage Heights. It has a membership program that reminds me of other programs such as and Massage Envy. Some people give Massage Envy a bad rap so sometimes hearing those comments seems to transfer over to other companies that offer similar programs.

Scheduling over the phone was good. The receptionist provided a cheerful greeting and was able to get me in the same day. She asked me several questions to figure out who would best suit my needs rather than just stick me with someone next on the list. When I got there, she addressed me by my name which was very nice. I was offered a bottled water while I sat and did my paperwork.

My therapist greeted me and brought me back to the treatment room. Since she knew I had come because of a small injury, she had provided me with an option to do some heat and ice treatment. This was nice because she was thinking of other alternative ways to help my injury other than just massage. This showed that she actually thought about my situation before she meet me.

My therapist (who has been practicing for two years at the time of this session) had a very good firm touch. I only asked for upper back work, so I felt I got what I needed without being rushed with a full body; so I can not say what a full body treatment would be like.

The only reason I gave a 4 star vrs a 5 star was I noticed that I didn't get the full 50 minute of the massage. I finished the paperwork by 30 after, I wasn't really on the table till 40 after, but I was finished with the massage at 25 after on the next hour. (if that makes sense - so I actually had a 45 minute massage rather than a 50 minute massage).

But don't get me wrong - I walked away feeling very good.
As I checked out, they inquired if I wanted to join their membership program. I polity turned it down and they respected my answer without pushing me into their sale.

Great service, Great atmosphere - Great touch...

I booked a couples massage with the spa and was really excited- from the reviews it appeared that this spa would be great. The phone service was impeccable...until we arrived at the spa and the lady at the desk barely payed attention to us. She acted as if we were pan handling and being a bother to her. We somehow arrived 30 minutes early even though the woman on the phone told me to arrive 15 minute before the appt. We were sent away and told to return closer to our appt time (even though I had confirmed on the phone 2 times about our appt time.) After we returned 30 minutes later we were then treated to another round of ignoring and rudeness by the receptionist along with a an additional 15 minute wait. While the massage and the massage therapists were kind and very good- the experience felt very "non spa like" and left us with some stress - due to the rude receptionist. Upon completion of the massage- we realized that we did not get our advertised service and were then begrudgingly given a $10 "discount"- if you want a great massage with borderline rude service then you should go here. IF not, there are far better day spas in the Seattle area.

Pros: Open 7 days a week, lots of appointment times. Good parking. Super convenient to downtown

I went to check out the new Massage Heights spa in downtown Bellevue about a week ago. It was great. The therapists seemed really professional, and they had an appointment for me right when I called in. The gal running the front desk was really sweet and accommodating-- she was just so busy she needed some help!

My *only* gripe really has nothing to do with Massage Heights-- just it's location. I was in a room on the side next too Sturtevant's (sports store). I don't know what was going on over there there, maybe they were having lunch or playing indoor basketball... listening to the news on the radio-- who knows. It was disrupting to the massage, I kept thinking that it must be annoying the massage therapist.

This is definately a must go to place. I got an initial $39.99 massage and was not expecting much but was I ever impressed. The place looks like a high end spa and my therapist had 10+ years of 5* plus spa experience. I added a hot stone and I was in heaven. What a great business.
They are a membership based place but way, way, way, better than massage envy. I joined right away and have been back a couple of times since.
Highly recommended.
