I come into town every couple of months to visit my daughter that moved here from the east coast and I always make sure that I go in and get my hair done every time I visit. For the last 6 years, my stylist has always done a great job working with the color and hair cut that I get back east. It always comes out fantastic and makes me look great.

My stylist is usually on time, listens well to my ideas for a new style, shares ideas and doesn't cut off more than I ask her to. She does a good job of making the cut work for me.

Pros: knowledgeable about hair types & styles that will work

Cons: on the expensive side

The stylists are friendly and listen to exactly what you want. When my roommate went there for the first time, the stylist had her come back when she was paying because he found out she liked to put her hair behind her ears. He wanted to make sure that her hair looked great when it was tucked back and when it was loose. I have never left there without loving my hair.

I took my 10 year daughter for her first real haircut, not just a trim. Not only did her stylist, Samantha, do a wonderful job she let me take as many pictures as I wanted to document the occasion. My daughter was thrilled with her new layers and shorter length! Great experience overall.

I have been to all types of salons and never found one that I kept going back to. I tried the Jon English salon because it was recommended to me and for the first time have been to this salon over and over. The staff is very upbeat and friendly and their stylists know what they are doing. I always feel welcome when I walk in. The stylist I go to sits down with me and make sure she knows what I want and tells me ideas of what I can do as well. She also takes the time to show me how she is styling my hair. I love coming here and would not go anywhere else. The products they have are also amazing. The shampoo and conditioner does wonders for my hair.

Everyone greets you by your name when you walk in, they remember what you like, and the stylists are the top! I know when I get my hair cut, that it will be done well, using the latest techniques, and by a stylist that understands you, your hair, and style needs. Linda is an artist with her shears, and trains others to follow in her footsteps. This is a wonderful place. And, their shampoos and products are organic and smell yummy. My favorite is the Hair Modernizer, and I can't live without it.

Pros: Fantastic stylists always wiling to help you

Great rapport. The stylist asks what I was thinking of, then makes suggestions, throws in their expertise on how to keep it looking current, and the end result looks great until the next cut more than a month later.

I have been seeing Trinity since she started at JE, about 5 yrs ago. She is the best! Love her! Not only does she know exactly what I want done to my hair, whether it be the cut or color, she makes you feel like you're talking to a friend. Trinity also gives great massages when shampooing your hair. I hope she never leaves! We always have some good laughs and I leave the salon feeling fabulous. Thanks

This salon is one of the best! Over the past 10 years I've lived in Philadelphia, Memphis, Seattle, NJ and MI. I've always struggled to find the perfect stylist who knows my hair and can give me a great cut. I found such a salon when I moved to Minnie 4 years ago. Jon English has fabulous stylists. I usually see Trinity who is soooo great! But in a pinch, I've had to see a couple of others and they did an excellent job. When I go to see Trinity I don't even have to tell her what I want done with my hair. She just knows what will look the best on me and I always walk out of the salon feeling beautiful! Thanks Jon English!!

I first went to Jon English when I chopped off 10 inches of my hair to donate. I wanted something that looked professional. My only concern was that I could pull it back off my face. I had Timothy the first time and have been going back to him ever since. I did try and save some money by going to another salon but it was a huge disappointment so I went back. Been happy ever since.

If you find yourself lost in the enormous sea of hair salon choices - or maybe you've already tried many of them (from economy to luxury) - and you always seem to walk away disappointed, this salon is the answer to you prayers. I can honestly say that you get New York/LA quality cuts and color at Midwest prices. And if you're still a bit doubtful (and I know, I was, too after searching for MANY years in this town); I have a couple of specific recommendations for you: FOR THE BEST HAIRCUT and finish, see Linda. FOR THE BEST COLOR., see Seong Heui. Oh, and one more thing, these 2 master stylists have PERFECTLY pleasant personalities! No need to endure inflated egos, laziness, incessant talking, etc. They are both attentive, kind, professional, don't rush you, and listen to what you want. You will walk out looking and feeling fabulous. I am so happy to have found them after all this time!

The ambiance is really chic and enjoyable. I would recommend this place to anyone. Their products and other services are also very impressive.

JE is a great salon, eithout being stuffy or overly trendy. The products are great (the finishing gloss is the best!) and the stylists are friendly and relaxed. I see Trinity for both cut and color and she's the best! I do skin care at another salon - where I've been complimented on how great my HLs are. I've tried other salons in Uptown and have made the switch for good to JE. Thank you!

I have been going to the Jon English Salon for about 1 1/2 years now and I always see Lorae. The first time I saw her was about 2 weeks before my wedding, which was risky, but my mom had been seeing her for a while and gave her a rave review. I had a wonderful experience with her - she gave me a beautiful cut and color. I went back again a month or so later and asked her to chop off my long hair into a modern bob - she did and I LOVED it - I felt like a new person. I have continued to see her on a regular basis - she has a really good eye for color and she is so detailed. She listens intently to what I ask for - gives suggestions - and I trust her 100%. She is a really fantastic hair stylist and I would recommend her to anyone! My husband regularly goes to the Salon for their walk in special. He has had maybe 4 or 5 different stylists and has been really happy with all of them. RUN don't walk to Jon English Salon - you'll be glad you did!

After moving to the twin cities 3 years ago I searched high and low looking for a skilled stylist that had the skills and creativity...plus a caring ear.

Finally, 18 months ago, I came in to Jon English Hairspa on a whim and prayer. I was booked with Paula and once again, I Love My Hairstyle.

I am stunned with her creativity and the variations in looks she gives me when I need a quick shampoo and style for a special occasion. Great atmosphere and feel throughout. Thank you Paula and all there. See you soon.

I went to have my hair cut with Shelly at John English Salon for the first time. I liked her so much that I came back within nine weeks to have another hair cut and nice style because I was going to a concert. She took her time and gave me tips in how to keep my hair nice for the event. When I arrived to the Hinckley Casino for the event my friends could not stop raving about my hair. Everyone loved it and I got so many compliments. I was looking so great that I was interviewed for a TV show that airs in Univision (channel 13). They also took pictures which will be featured in some of their future printed ads. And this was not all. I was also invited to go and dance at the stage with my favorite Salsa singer Gilberto Santa Rosa. Thanks to Shelly, John English and the great staff at the salon I had a great time and looked spectacular. I would recommend this salon to anyone that wants to look just fabulous.

I've had the best haircuts of my life at Jon English Salon, thanks to Trinity -- the most incredible stylist you could ever find. I have curly hair, and she knows just what to do with it. And she always shows me a few different ways I can wear it with each new cut. She's even taken the time to flatiron it so I can show off a new do for a few days. Also, lots of extra pampering at the salon. Be prepared for a truly relaxing and rejuvenating experience.

Okay, so I'm one of those guys that had the same woman cut my hair since I can remember. So, naturally, I was more than hesitant to just wander into some place new and put my locks on the cutting block (so to speak). A couple of my friends had mentioned Jon English before...albeit a little on the expensive side, but they assured me that it was worth it and that they do a good job of pampering you while you're there.

Now, you've got to know that I don't have just any kind of hair...I come from a long line of jewish men with thick, coarse and heavily wavy hair. This has always presented a problem when it comes to communicating how I would like my hair to look...so, as anyone can imagine I was incredibly nervous just showing up and asking for someone. I told the woman at the front desk that I was new to the salon and that I needed someone who had experience cutting wavy/curly hair. She recommended that I see Peach.

It was a great recommendation, because I was very pleased with my haircut. I haven't had such a low-maintenance hairstyle in years, and I even got to keep some of the length without it looking too thick and shaggy. On top of the great cut, I got a complimentary scalp massage, a complimentary hand massage and a couple of amazing organic suckers that were literally the best-tasting candy I've had.

I wouldn't have imagined that great service like this existed just down the street from my apartment.

Bravo!

Bravo!

Pros: Skilled and friendly staff, stylish decor, organic candy!

Cons: a little pricy

.

I have never been treated so horribly by any salon. Not only was I ignored by the receptionist upon check-in, but I was waiting for my appointment for 70 minutes before anybody would even tell me my appointment was close. It was not worth the wait. I got the worst haircut ever. I was left with strands of long hair that I found on my own and had to cut myself afterwards. This was my 3rd attempt to patron this place. Every time they have been incredibly rude. Why go someplace and pay a lot of money to be treated so bad? Why be so rude? Treat people with respect and they may just come back!!!

Pros: cant think of any

Cons: Pretentious rude and arrogant and junior staff

Timothy was recommended by a "friend"..he was poor at best. Employees were rude, facility not as high class as I'd expect from the outside. Will not go back. Total waste of 50$ and a bad cut at that.

I gave this salon a few chances...and I won't be going back again. They rely too heavily on their reputation for being a trendy, good salon. It's simply not. Perhaps the worst considering there's a 50/50 chance you'll have a great result and they have horrible business practices.

I understand everyone makes mistakes. That said, when mistakes happen, I expect them corrected. Not only to make the client happy, but so I'm not walking around with horrible hair...telling people which salon to avoid.

I'm a brunette with once subtle, thin, blended highlights -- the result was a nice light brown. Yesterday, I went in to have them touched up and my greys dyed a light brown. What I'm staring at now are dark brown roots over an inch long, with bright light yellow streaks. Wow. I look like I need a dye job basically -- $150 later (with tip)

When I told them yesterday that it looks horrible, they said they can't fix it until monday or tuesday. When I pushed to get it fixed that same day or Saturday I was told they don't fix mistakes on Saturdays because they fix it for free and are too busy.

I am appalled.

This was their second chance. The first time they left my color on so long, I had dull almost black hair (over saturated). And then they talked me out of lightening it...said I should use conditioner instead??? And expected me to purchase their conditioner.

I shouldn't have given them a second chance.

Okay, so a girl like me who has semi-curly, thick, half-asian hair needs a good salon. So when I was a teenager many places would turn me away at the door saying things like 'oh, no.. she wants me to cut that girl's hair?? I can't.. ' Let's just say I've had many a bad haircut in my time. I finally grew it out long and the flat iron was invented. Then I took a chance on a no name salon where they twisted and thinned out my hair with thinning sheers, thinking that would make me look pretty. Well, it was horrible and I had to have six inches cut off to look normal again. Then I went to a different place to have it trimmed a few months later. Perhaps it the stylist was having a bad day, but she then cut my already short hair into a chucky doll disaster. Three co-workers came up to me the next day, uninvited, with business cards to get that fixed. So there I was, all out luck and out of hair.. and so I took a chance on one of the business cards for a stylist at Jon English in Uptown. It's been a year and I can't tell you how many compliments I've received on my cuts. It's been a process, growing it out long again, but these guys have made me look and feel good throughout the year. It's worth the money for a girl who would otherwise look like a Chucky doll in public. That only flies at Halloween people.

Before I explain the torture and trauma of this supposedly renowned salon, allow me to tell you that "TIMOTHY" will BUTCHER YOUR HAIR to the point of no return. Scheduled with TIMOTHY, to correct the color he had given me 2 days earlier that was too dark, THIS MAN LEFT A FULL HEAD OF FOILS WITH "A GENTLE LIFTER" IN MY HAIR FOR ALMOST TWO HOURS WITHOUT CHECKING THE FOILS. After getting shampooed, I was pulling off broken fried chunks of stripped hair that was so damaged by the lifter that the texture of the hair i was pulling off in clumps felt like over boiled angel hair spaghetti. Another stylist who was nearby stared right into my eyes and literally ignored me when I asked what the hell was going on. The manager came over offering me free products like a deep conditioning treatment, meanwhile my hair looked like I just survived a house fire, so jon english can take that worthless deep conditioner and shove it up their.... Anyway, Because of this, I was forced to cut off three inches of my hair because it was so terribly damaged. And, to conclude this AWFUL EXPERIENCE and UNPROFESSIONALISM, TIMOTHY snatches the comb from my hands so that he could confiscate the broken fried clumps of hair that were in the comb since i intended to show it to a manager. Not only did he successfully damage my hair to the point where I can hardly comb through the brittle straw like lifeless remains of it, but he was rude, sneaky and failed to sincerely accept responsibility for what he did to my hair for 190 dollars. My advice, go to your local salon, pay half the price and get 10 times as much out of your hair than whatever jon english has to offer with their ridiculous prices and amateur stylists. and keep in mind that your drunk girlfriend who doesn't know the difference between semi permanent and permanent could do a better job than TIMOTHY AT JON ENGLISH SALON.

I waited over 20 minutes and no one even bothered to apologize. When I told them I was leaving because I had waited too long, they could care less. They obviously don't care or know how to treat customers.

I have never found a salon like this one. I refer people all the time. Sometimes I hear from people that they're pricey, but come-on!! we're not in LA or New York where the prices are at LEAST double for this comparable service. Linda English cuts my hair and Seong Heui does my color. Together they are incomparable. The staff here is highly trained, hard-working, and friendly beyond belief. I was there one day when a client was yelling at Seong Heui, (they hadn't been happy with their service) and even though she was out of control, Seong Heui was nothing but poised and professional. I have never seen anything like it. I can't wait to go back. How embarrassing for that client!!

I have been going to Jon English Salon for 8 years and Lorae has been my stylist the entire time. I have never received more compliments on my hair since seeing Lorae. She is extrodinarily talented and I have never given more referrals than to her. When I first began seeing Lorae, I was the client that said, "I want a change, but don't change my hair." Lorae smiled and did magic with my cut and style. She continues that to this day. She is truly wonderful at what she does and there is no expression of gratitude or appreciation that could equivalate all that she gives to her clients. When you see her, tell her that she is a ROCK STAR!
