I was really looking forward to trying this place out, but apparently it closed near the end of July, 2007. Booooo.

Pros: Intrigue

Cons: Not open

After reading some of the reviews I was slightly hesitant to check out the place, but I was glad I did. The entrance is a bit confusing as it's not marked but there was a man out front ushering customers in (I think he works at Cafe Vin as well). The restaurant is very simple-it's basically a room, shabby chic decor. The staff was extremely efficient and attentive. Our server was very kind, patient, and even brought us samples of some of the wines that my wife and I were interested in. I noticednone of the pretension that other reviewers felt. The food was excellent (flank steak and ravioli with butternut squash). Portions would probably be considered small by some, but be we felt full on what we ate. Overall, one of the better dining experiences that I've had in Minneapolis.

The food is good and the restaurant is so romantic. The server tried their best. I love their tiramisu and i never liked it before. It was kinda hard to find since there was no name in the front. Very reasonable.

We looked alittle stupid two weeks ago wandering around outside Pane Vino Dolce wondering if we were in the right place - there is no sign - that is until one of the servers came out and told us that this was the place to be. She certainly was right! We split the crab cakes which were fluffy inside while crisp on the outside. Next I had a ceasar salad so garlicly delicious my husband asked if we could ride home in seperate cabs. Truffle oil has never been put to better use than it was in my lamb entree. Finally the choclate cake which our waitress bluntly told us is the best item on the dessert menu was just that, though I wouldn't mind finding out for myself. The wine list left alittle to be desired, but our curly-haired waitress was able to recommend the perfect red to accompany my lamb. The service was great and everyone made us feel like we had been coming there for years. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys excellent service and remarkable food!

My husband and I discovered this place by accident. We have recently moved into the neighborhood and were walking over to another restaurant on the block. We peaked in the windows and were intriqued by the menu posted on the window. A gentlemen looking like the dish washer (but we think really serves as the host) convinced us to come in and try. We were so delited we brought back three friends and our daughter recently. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is excellent, and the service is trully the best. We were not rushed through courses, we were able to relax, talk and enjoy the company. We spent three hours dining and felt like we were the only ones in the place. Mind you it was a Friday night and the place was packed, but our waitor was not only knowledgeable about the food and wines, but was very attentive. This restaurant is a total experience. It really feels like you are sitting in a neighborhood restaurant in Italy. If you want to go and eat generic Italian food with pre-fab decor then you would be better off at Buca's. Our group had several different types of pasta's, as well as a special of the day - hazelnut crusted pork tenderloin (which melted in your mouth.) For desert we had creme brule and mixed berries. The mixed berries were perfect with the dry red wine that we were drinking. I disagree with the comment this is not a place for a group. Our group loved everything about it. I also disagree with those who say in their reviews it is not a romantic place. We noticed a couple sitting not far from us who I am certain was differ with that opinion. Again, if you like average this is not the place for you. Trully not an average place! We will continue to recommend to friends.

There is no outdoor signage so we didn't spot the restaurant right away. On a Sunday evening, we were seated right away and immediately some bread and olive oil were delivered to our table. We appreciated being asked whether we wished for bottled or tap water, knowing that bottled would incur an additional fee. Our party of three ordered a red pepper and feta appetizer; the Aglio pizza, spaghetti and a seafood stew for entrees; and creme brulee and chocolate mousse for desserts. Everything was delicious and nicely-presented. At times it seemed that we were waiting a bit long for our food, but remembered that we did order three courses. The bill was presented immediately upon request and processed promptly, which we appreciated as we were on our way to see a film afterwards.

Can't wait to go back. A wonderful place.

Cons: lighting, not easy to spot, wait time

I have a wonderful experience every time I visit this restaurant. The waitstaff is incredibly accomodating and friendly. They are also very knowledgable about the menu and offer great suggestions. The food is always prepared very well. I can never remember their name, but it's one of my favorites.

We walked in and waited to be seated. No one acknowledged us until the cook (was out smoking) came in the front door. When I rec'd my asparagus stuffed chicken, it looked good. Until I noticed that the center of the chicken was completely uncooked. I flagged the waitress. She said a new plate would be cooked and well get a free dessert. Most places of this $-range shouldve taken the entree off the bill. When I rec'd the 2nd one, it was obvious they just cut the uncooked part off and recooked it. Obviously the kitchen didnt want to recook a new piece or have to take a hit on removing it from the bill. The waitress did give us another free glass of wine. Unfortunately, waitresses come and go and the kitchen stays. The kitchen is cheap and unprofessional.

Well never return!!

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. Yes, the dining room gets loud. It's part of the unique ambiance/culture of the restaurant; even with the noise, it's romantic and cozy. I don't recommend going with a group larger than four if you want to hear everyone. The food is outstanding; however, if you decide to be boring and order the most boring item on the menu (only a couple--for the unadventurous), it's probably going to be basic...try the ones that sound fabulous...they are!! The portions are the way they should be...a decent price for a fabulous meal you can actually finish (if you want something adequate to have leftovers from, go to the Olive Garden). It's about the experience...GREAT and knowledgeable waitstaff, great wine, you can actually order an app, entree, and dessert and not feel horrible in the end (and enjoy every bite). Try it, it's the best!

I read reviews pane vino dolce has long waits, only takes cash, was too loud and had questionable service. Times have changed! We magically recieved a table for 4 after a 10 min. wait in a full house on a Saturday night. Immediately I felt I had wandered into the livingroom of an old friend. Our server (one of all women) treated us like we were loved regulars and was very knowledgable. She and the rest of the staff seemed to really be enjoying themselves and their jobs. We really enjoyed the food. The mussels were addictive, the gnocchi was light and pillowy, and the Salmon was flavorful to perfection. It was a bit loud, still if I was looking for a quite romantic evening I would have waited and went back on a weekday. We payed with a check and left, begrudingly.

The large front dining room does get rather loud on a busy weekend night, but what do you expect? Its a restaurant.. on the weekend. The bar area is much quieter and darker, like your own private little cave. We ate back there on our most recent trip, and it was just as fantastic as every other time weve been there, we had the salmon, on perfectly done summer risotto with a tomato butter sauce, We also had the flank steak. It sounded very plain, just meat and potatoes.. but it wasn't the steak was stuffed with spinach atop a fluffy bed of mashed potatoes with a blue cheese sauce! yum Id eat it every time. I don't know why this place gets such bad reviews. We've never had a bad time, the service is always exceptional, and even if there is a wait.. its well worth every minute.

Pros: Service, Great food, Personality

If you like waiting 2.5 hours for you food, and you enjoy receiving the wrong order, this is the place for you. We first visited this restaurant 1 year ago and found it a charming, althogh noisy restaurant. We decided to give it another try with some friends. What a difference a year can make. The ambience was unchanged...uncomfortable chairs, noisy, and poorly lit. We expected that. What we did not expect was an overly pretentious waiter and horrible service. The taste and presentation of the food was fine, but by the time it arrived (2.5 hours after ordering), we had lost our appetite. Worst yet, one of our party received the wrong entree, and the waiter only made only a slightly contrite apology. Being Minnesota nice, we were loath to complain, and management did not make an appearance to offer any apologies. The entire experience was a disaster.

I feel compelled to write this review @ 1am because earlier today I had my worst dining experience ever. We made reservations and were seated promptly but had to wait 25 mts for a server to introduce himself. An hour after ordering, we received 3 out of the 5 entrees. 5-7 mts later we received another. 5 minutes later we were told that the last entree was delayed and they brought out some pasta instead. After waiting 25 mts for the delayed entree, we canceled the order. We did receive an apology and a free bottle of wine. The food was average, and the portion size ridiculously small - no value here. The acoustics were awful and its neither appropriate for an intimate setting, nor a large group. The mgmt here has no idea on how to run a restaurant efficiently and their dedication to service has to be questioned.

The food was wonderful--but I won't go back! FYI, the bottled water that the waitstaff rushes to your table and pours into your glasss is $5.00----you are not asked if you want this water or told that you are being charged---it is just poured and when you finish one bottle---they rush out to bring another---again without asking and again charging you another $5. The waitstaff was snobby--the type that wants to appear "open-minded" and "hip", but are very judgmental of people who aren't (ironically) like them.

Pane Vino Dolce is a wonderful little treasure in the Twin Cities! Sure, the atmosphere / decor may be slightly unexpected and informal, but the food more than makes up for it. The whole place reminds me of Christmas dinner with my Italian family (minus my grandmother's curses in Sicilian). Yum!

While visiting in Mpls, I had the pleasure of dining at PVD. I did not find noise a problem at all. I have never dined in a restaurant with such unique decor. The experience of it all was so different than any place I have been; I absolutely loved it. The candle light and darkness was so romantic and the place definately emits coziness. The food was wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I would definately recommend to all and will be sure to visit again the next time I'm in the area.

Four of us showed up for dinner one weeknight around 8:00 p.m. - all of us 'first timers.' Maybe it was the later seating, but the noise wasn't a problem a bit. I cannot rave enough about this place. The food was mouthwatering with every single bite. I got the lamb and recommend it without reservation. Our server Ricardo was memorable - his service was charming and extremely accomodating. We will most certainly be back.

I wish there were more neighborhood italian eateries with ambience and food similar to PVD. I returned to the restaurant after my first visit a couple of years ago. I remember enjoying it more then, but it is still worth a try. One criticism: I ordered a 1998 Barbaresco with dinner and was brought a '96. I accepted the bottle (still a good vintage and wasn't corked), but I thought is was on the warm side and dull overall. After we left my fiancee told me she saw the waitperson take the bottle from a high shelf in the restaurant . . . I guess it was part of the display? If I had known that the wine had been mishandled in this way (exposed to warm temps for an extended time) I would have sent it back . . . thought I simply made a bad choice.

As a person who relocated to Minneapolis recently, I was pleased to finally find a great privately owned neighborhood Italian place on par with those I have experienced in New York and Chicago! I love the fact that there is no sign out front - making this a place that truly generates business by word of mouth. Most restuarants in this city seem to lack the essential ingredient of "personality". This place certainly does not.

The food is truly wonderful! The menu changes weekly and the chef has a nack for combining flavors in unexpected ways. The staff is attentive and well trained. They also take reservations on the weekend, which is a lesson most Minneapolis restuarants need to learn.

Minneapolis could use about 20 more places like this! This is the best food I have had here.

I really like the European ambience of Pane Vino Dolce, but I was really quite disappointed in the food. Of the two entrees that I tried, both were at best marginal and certainly not up to the billing as a special. The staff was friendly, though, and we were seated quickly.
I would be willing to give it another shot in hopes of better food because I enjoyed the setting, but my first trip was disappointing.

On a chilly fall day, venturing out of the house took effort. After some difficulty finding the restaurant, for lack of a sign, we were attended to immediately once inside, and given our choice of seating. Choosing a spot near the window, I was elated to have a HEATED window seat! We were quickly treated to water and the choice of wine. Knowing little about wine, our waiter allowed us to taste some and then decide. What a choice he made! We each had 2 glasses! The specials sounded excellent, and we chose from them. The food was delicious, and the service excellent for our entire meal. The atmosphere was fairly noisy, but we held hands across the candle lit table, as well as great conversation. After dessert, we left feeling comfortably full, and fully in love. Dinner was a little pricey, but the entire dining experience was worth it.

Cons: Difficult to find, Fairly Noisy

The food was excellent and I loved the ambiance (not too loud when we were there). Our waiter happened to be someone we had a horrible experience with at another restaurant years ago. Never made eye contact, stared into the kitchen while he stood sideways at our table and rattled off the specials, never brought us a wine list or even mentioned that they had wine. The rest of the wait staff was great (they attended to us while he was busy chatting with his friends). The only thing that I worry is about is that he might be the owner. If so, Ill say he knows how to hire wait staff, chefs, and decorate a room but he shouldnt ever be allowed to make contact with the customers. Hes probably the one who told the other reviewed to chill out.
Go, but make sure you get a female server

The tall ceiling and lack of anything to absorb sound makes this a hellacious experience for those who have not just come from Oz Fest and can't hear dinner conversation anyway. Not especially memorable in any other way...
