.

I saw Dr. Syed Hasan and could never in one lifetime express to you how negative the experience was, and how much trouble they caused me. I had been told by my last dentist that I needed a root canal. However, Dr. Hasan said the same thing only after blowing air on my tooth, saying nothing, and then sending Sandra in the room with a sheet of paper with $450 written on it. She said I owe it immediately, with absolutely no breakdown or explanation of costs. She said it is the cost of a root canal with my insurance.

I have never had a root canal, so I had questions for them. Sandra would not get Dr. Hasan and after a while he finally came in. He stood halfway in the doorway and every time he finished a sentence, he would walk away out of sight, making it clear he didn??t want to explain anything. He had to keep coming to the doorway to resume the conversation. And no, he was not busy with other patients. They booked him for the whole hour just for me. He just didn??t want to provide any patient care, period. At one point, he told me that if I didn??t want to do the root canal, right then and there, pay the unexplained amount and stop asking questions, then I was ??fabricating the pain.? I asked if I could make an appointment to come back and do it and they discouraged me from doing so and said it would a ??long time? before they have another opening. I had only called them that morning and was sitting in their office 3 hours later, so what the?..?

Something was clearly fishy so I called my insurance company while still in the office, and they told me it should be $250. I then told Sandra what they said and she said "Oh, yeah, well, we need to do other things too that cost extra." When I asked her what they needed to do and why, she refused to tell me. She said she could refer me to a specialist so I accepted (of course). I left the office and called the insurance company again to verify the $250 charge and also to make sure I could be referred to a specialist, and yes, my coverage allows that. Minutes later Sandra called me to tell me that my plan does not allow referrals to specialists. I told her that I already verified that it does, and that she must be confused with my coverage. She insisted no, that she was right, and she could no longer speak to me as I was no longer a patient. She said because I had asked to be referred (she was the one that offered!) that that means I am no longer their patient. (In actuality, because I have an HMO and I am assigned to them for the whole month, they do have a responsibility to either refer me or fax a letter to the insurance company stating that they are ??dismissing? me as a patient. They refused to do either when the insurance company called to try to resolve the situation.)
