It is sad how many frauds there are in comedy clubs these days. I don't mean unfunny jokes. I mean no jokes at all. I have lived in NY my whole life and have seen a lot of comedians come and go. I have seen people have off nights. But what

If you decide to go, then don't pay any cover charge since the two drink minimum ($13 per drink) and the 18% gratuity will take all of your hard earned money. This club promotes itself as a COMEDY club, but there is nothing funny about it,

Wow has this place deteriorated in the last few months. My wife and I had been to Stand~Up New York toward the end December of last year and had seen some amazing comedians. Professional, friendly, prepared. One or two we'd recognized from TV.

Tonight we saw a raciist host attack the audience and make blatantly raciist statements when his jokes weren't working. We saw a guy do terrible impressions of Al Pacino and Ray Romano with no actual jokes, just vulgar stuff, and some guy even got on stage a little drunk, it seemed, wearing an undershirt and proceeded to make jokes about how we were getting ripped-off on our drinks. Not funny.

We weren't alone. When we walked out we heard almost everyone saying how the show was "so-so" or "comedians were lame" or "wow that was disgusting and raciist."

Note that the two people who say the club is under "new management" and give it five stars suspiciously both say the same phrase, and neither had ever reviewed anything before.

There were one or two funny comedians, but we've seen much better shows at other clubs in the city.

Cons: rip-off prices, rude manager, raciist host

Laughed all night. Who cares what the drinks cost. I saw Godfrey, Ashy larry, and Greg Giraldo.

I was approached on the street to buy tickets for Stand Up NY's show. The club has recently switched to new management and has changed A LOT. A few of my friends and I went to the Friday night show and the line up included many great comedians who have been on Letterman and The Tonight Show. We had a blast. The whole show kept us laughing and the two drink minimum was really not a problem when you're out having fun with your friends at a great show. I would recommend it to anyone. Each week, the club brings in great acts with many really big names that comes by as well. GREAT TIME! DEFINITELY NEED TO CHECK OUT!

Had some friends in town that got duped into buying tickets IN ADVANCE down in times square. It turns out that on Mondays they're having a contest for "musically related" acts. AKA THE WEAKEST, MOST UNPROFESSIONAL, 100% AMATEUR COMEDIANS, OPEN MIC HACK SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! It was insulting how stupid and unfunny these people were...and tickets were FULL PRICE!!! Bars and Cafes don't charge a cover for open mic nights....the acts bring their friends. DON'T GO TO STAND UP NY ON MONDAYS AND WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. It's a JOKE in it's self. Luckily the Host was super funny and cute. she was hands down the only redeeming part of the evening.

if Management from stand up ny reads this, PLEASE spare your reputation and scratch the music monday "thing"

Watch out falling into this tourist trap. I was approached on the street at times square and sold a bill of goods. The salesman read me a list of this evenings comedians that included 5 famous names I know. We were excited to say the least. He even gave me a discount on the tix "wow". Until I arrived. What a Dump, bathrooms in the celler, microwave nachos, $15 drinks with a two drink minimum. So a $45 bucket of bears was the best i could do (5 X $9.00). $10 service charge for what ever. $12 manditory tip (how is that fair) So now i am out $120 and it just so happened to be latino night. All women and half in spanish i was lost and barely laughing. Luckily I felt obligated to finish my bucket so the last girl made me smile a bit. I love latino people so that was not my problem but it was amature night and I was expecting broadway.

Almost a year ago I saw a sold out show at this club featuring Dave Attell, Patrice Oneal, and a gaggle of other of the funniest comics I had ever seen. On my last visit just a week ago, I was promised by the promoter that I would see Jerry Seinfeld hosting the night, and when I arrived I was laughed at by the General Manager (who was mostly rude and sorta drunk). The comics that did perform were horribly not funny and the place was overrun by a fruit flys and gnats. The service staff was polite, and friendly but unable to salvage this sad evening. I guess the luster of of its former self has finally worn off, and all that remains are greatly overpriced drinks, a mostly laughless room, and dozens of empty seats.

We went to the nine o'clock posterdog show at standup ny last night. The staff was so friendly and accomodating. The gentleman who checked us in was very pleasant and actually quite funny which put us in a confident mood and prepared us for the talent to come. Our waiter had great knowledge of the menu, and was always around when we needed something. The show was very entertaining. I was introduced to a lot of comedians that I had never had the chance to see. I specifically enjoyed Kurt Metzger and Joe De Rosa. The highlight of the show was when Donnell Rawlings made a special appearance and blew the crowd away for about half an hour. The last comedian, Geno Bisconti, was also very good. The show was very edgy, and very entertaining. I would definitely recomend this club to anyone. Amazing service and great comedy made for the best night of our trip to New York City. I can't wait to come back!!!!

I have been meaning to write a review about my experience at Stand Up NY. A few months ago, I caught wind that Chris Rock was going to be performing, so being the fan i am, I went! And boy was i in for a surprise!! Chris Rock performed for almost two hours right in front of my very eyes!! I couldnt stop smiling the entire time!! Even when he wasnt being funny---i was smiling just because i was so excited to be in a room w him performing!! You could tell that Chris was just practicing his materials....but how cool is that--seeing Chris Rock actually prepping for one his his world tours!!! There are no words great enough to describe my experience at Stand Up. Cool doesnt even begin to describe it!! Thank you Stand Up for a night atht ill always remember!!

My husband and I live just a couple of blocks away and decided to catch a show the other night. Oh my goodness, we were so glad we did!!! We had such a fantstic few hours of laughs and went home smiling!! First of all, the host, Rob Cantrell, was absolutely hysterical!! I could've listened to him alone all night, but thank goodness, the other comedians did not disappoint!!! There were four comedians....all with different styles...and all hilarious!! The atmosphere of Stand-Up was perfectly classic--the club is small enough to be intimate, making you feel like you are truly part of the show, but large enough to house quite a crowd!! Everyone there was having a ball and we still havent stopped talking about our night of laughs at Stand-Up!! We are definitely going to be spending more time there in the weeks to come!!

$10 for a bottle of Corona beer is kind of excessive in my opinion. Also, even though service is lacking, they automatically add in a gratuity of %18 for all checks, regardless of the size of your party. This practice also strikes me as questionable. All adds up to greedy management.

I went to this particular comedy club a few times- and had a blast EVERY time. The two drink min. isn't that bad....its a comdey club for god sake people! the talent there is superb as well, especially Big Jay Oakerson. NY Stand up is such an intimate place, too. You really feel connected with the talent. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING TO THIS COMEDY CLUB!

I have never had a worse experience going out. The management told us there was a 2 drink minimum or $15 per person. 20 minutes into the show, I was given a bill for $88.00. When I went to question it, half a dozen angry men surrounded and yelled at me. 'Management' told me that I had to pay it or they would call the cops. One man blocked the door while others yelled....it was OUTRAGEOUS.

Attented the 9:00 Sat. night March15th show and came away very dissappointed. The talent on this particular night was horrible. I realize a club is only as good as the talent but the whole experiance was a let down. We would not have felt half as bad as we did paying $55 per person with drinks if the night would have been filled with laughter but that was not the case. Good service, poor talent, good atmosphere a bit pricey

The Comedy was Amazing! I had a great time with my boyfriend, we laughed all night. However, the manager was extremely rude. When we arrived at the club, we stated that we purchased tickets online and he immediately told us it was impossible and rudely dismissed us without asking any questions. My boyfriend was ready to walk away, but I thought it was ridiculous because we HAD bought tickets online. To the managers already turned back, I stated the company's name that we purchased the tickets through and he realized his error and let us in. No apology after the quick dismissal or rude treatment. After the performance a fight broke out for atleast five minutes and a guest/customer had to break it up. Where was the security? I do not recommend this place. There are many other comedy venues in the city that host the same comedians.

Wow! Getting into a comedy club for free is unheard of. Then, some people have think they have the right to complain because they actually have to order something. Sheez! I had a great experience while I was there. I'm not a cheap person. I know that all comedy clubs have a two drink minimum. My husband and I had more than the minimum. The reason the sodas are not cheap is because they bring out a pitcher so you can drink as much as you want. Our waitress was awesome. The show was funny. I will definitely go back!! If someone wants to complain that their bill is too expensive, maybe they should go out somewhere cheaper......say, Jersey..instead of Manhattan.

My girlfriend and I went here on Saturday night to see our friend perform (who was the only good part of the show I might add) and when we arrived we were told it was a $20 cover/$15 drink minimum per person. Ok, fine, no big deal. Except, I have been a bartender and waited tables for years and anywhere I've ever worked or gone to, if there was a drink minimum it actually applied to anything on the menu. So we were totally under the impression you just had to spend at least $15 in addition to the cover charge. Neither of us are big drinkers so we each ordered a coke. My girlfriend got mozzarella sticks and I got a salad. We got our bill and, are you ready for this? $113!!!!!! They charged us $30 for the 2 sodas b/c apparently the minimum applies to drinks only which I find funny b/c why didn't our waitress tell us that when she saw we were only ordering sodas and salad?! Not to mention, they add an 18% gratuity which was part of the cover charges!!! Half the bill was cover charges and the stupid "drink minimum" making the gratuity $18!!! All for 2 sodas, salad, and mozzarella sticks! Ridiculous! After trying to talk to the manager, she was LESS than courteous, saying that the specific drink minimum is written on the menu. Ha, yeah, you need a magnifying glass to read it and with it being dark in there you definitely don't see it. So then I told her I refused to pay the 18% gratuity if they were going to rip us off like they were and she actually said she would charge me for theft of property if I didn't pay the gratuity!! Haha! Just so you folks know, you are NEVER obligated to pay gratuity ANYWHERE even if it's added onto the bill. You absolutely positively can NOT. Take it from me, I've worked in a bunch of bars and restaurants, and they can't force you. So anyway, they kept trying to tell me I had to pay the gratuity and I just said no way so eventually they were like, "fine, just get out of here". Oh trust me I won't be going back!!!

My girlfriend and I were visitng NY, Times Square where a ticket seller was seling us 10 dollar tickets with the pitch that sienfield might attend. WE decided not to buy tickets, but decided to stop by that night anyway. At the door, we were told that our admission would be free as long as we followed the drinks minimum (BIG MISTAKE!) two budlights and one sprite for a total of $44 OUCH - out of the four comedians the first one was funny, but the last one including the "headliner" weren't. The headliner's jokes were like "im fighting terrorism by punching cab drivers" - maybe i didnt find the comedians funny because i had seen my tab - oh well

So I'm a New York local who likes to hang out at the Improv and the Comedy Cellar, but because of some free tickets I decided to make my way over to the Upper Westside to see the "stunning" line up at Stand Up NY. This turned out to be less entertaining than a leaking colostomy bag, and I have had many of those.
Before I go into any more details all I can say is DO NOT GO HERE!!!!
This place is overpriced, the comedians are just plain painful, the service is terrible, and even with "free" passes you'll still end up paying way too much. First of all the price, unless you are getting a lap dance there is no reason why you should be paying 10$ for a beer in Manhattan. This place is much more like a continuous kick in the groin than a lap dance.
The comedians simply are not funny. It might seem like a trivial detail to some, but it seems pretty essential to the whole idea of a comedy club. They try to lure you in with the idea that "Seinfeld" might show up, but really he never does. In fact, most comedians have enough self-respect to go nowhere near this place. The people on stage are hacks who fall back on material recycled from comics much funnier than themselves or simply quiz the audience on where they're from. One asked me where I was from, I said "Brooklyn", he said "Ok". I thought, well isn't this exciting I'm paying to have casual bar banter with someone. How hard is it to think of a joke about Brooklyn? Com' on...
The prices are outrageous as well. This website misrepresents the prices. The cover is 15-20 and beers are 10 bucks a pop. Beyond that there is some byzantine pricing system whereby you end up paying 35 bucks even though you had expected to pay much much less. Also, the waitress seemed more concerned with trying to scam us than with actually serving us drinks.
In short, go to the comedy cellar or any other funny venue in NY. When in doubt go to central park and laugh at the crazies it's cheaper and way funnier than these hacks.

Pros: If you like bad entertainment at exorbitant prices this place is for you

Cons: There are no easily accesible exits so you can leave this travesty

Compared to other comedy clubs I have been to, I felt Stand Up New York was a great value and the overall atmosphere was extremely friendly, and the comics were top rate.
The comics interacted well with the audience and worked them into their acts, which were unique, VERY FUNNY and covered a broad range of topics and comic styles. The wait staff was friendly and efficient and the food was great and and the drinks were well priced. I highly recommend Stand Up New York for a fun filled, great nite out!

I've been to a few comedy clubs in NYC, and i have to say that this was one of the best ive been to, even tho the wiatress was a lil rude, but the drinks where good and def not as expensive as alot of other comedy clubs. I went on a sunday and the show was amazing, not too crowded but enough ppl. The comics were hysterical, i laughed my ass off. I actually talked to a few comics after the show and they were super nice. Fun place to go, def recommended.

I had a great time there on Sat. night Nov. 9th. It was crowded and you did end up crammed into small tables, but you were very close to the stage no matter where they had you sit. The drinks were expensive, but not all that much more than in many other bars in the city. The comedians were all funny and most were very funny. I think everyone there around us that night seemed to really enjoy themselves, but I guess like any comedy club the talent varies by night, show and your state of mind when going to the show. Beers were $6.50 and mixed drinks were around $8.50 and up, so expect to buy at least two of those per person per show to meet the two item minimum.

Pros: Funny, nice neighborhood, close to subway stop

Cons: expensive

Very impolite staff. Mediocre comedians. My husband and I were stuffed into two inaccessible seats behind a group of 20, even though the other half of the room was empty. We asked to move to a more spacious location and were told no. Close quarters, poor comedy and overall a very poor experience for the $150 we spent.

My friend won some tickets here, so i went, since it was free. i couldnt get to my seat because it was so crowded and theres a 2 item minimum to be there (since there were 7 of us, we had to get 14 items which ended up being $120! for some fries, mozarella sticks and sodas!) but despite all those facts, i thought most of the comedians were funny... i had a good time... would i recommend it? yes, but would i go back? no.

This place has the most horrific comedians on stage. Yes, the place is small, yes the staff if unaccomdating, but the worst are the comics. I've been here many times, only because of the fact that I won 20 free tixs. each time I went. If you like sitting in a silent room with crickets chirpping watching hack comics BOMB, then this is for you. Most times I've been here, it's been sooooo uncomfortable there, no one laughing, the comic attacking the crowd cause they couldn't get a laugh out of their normal material.....advice to comics: stop asking the crowd "so, is that your husband??" or "you guys together?? - does he treat you right?" or "so, anyone hear the one about bill clinton....?" ps. do not go to black amateur night.....I wanted to throw myself off the GW after that one!!!!!

Pros: good for nap

Cons: bad for comedy

This place is a shoddy joke! No Pun intended! The service is snobby and obnoxious. The seating area is tight and uncomfortable (they try to cram 150 people into a room the size of a NYC studio apartment) and there is little to no air conditioning. The comedians were NOT funny at all, and the price just to sit was absolutely ludicrous for the caliber of comedians that were performin. Even if they gave me a free ticket AND paid me a weeks salary to be there, I still would never go back!
