We were going to use Dee and Jay Showcase for our wedding and heard about them through my fiance's friend at work who had just booked them as well. They charged us $425 for the DJ service. The next day we noticed a duplicate charged. "Dee" told us that they had a new operating system and that they will get the money refunded right away. A week had passed by and I received a notification from my credit card company that my balance on my card was high. I looked it over and noticed two more charges but this time it wasn't from Dee and Jay Showcase. There was a charge to a cable company for $425 (same amount as our supposed DJ rate) and another charge to the City of Independence for utilities in the amount of $124.49. It didn't take us long to figure out what had happened. We called the City of Independence and inquired about recent payments to the business's address. Sure enough they confirmed my credit card number was used to pay their utility bills. We called my credit card company and they have reversed all charges including the two initial $425 charges for the supposed DJ service that we will most definitely not be using. We also never signed a contract so this is no longer a contractual matter but credit card fraud. This is why you should always make your major wedding purchases with a credit card as you are protected by the credit card laws. Luckily our wedding is four months away so no real harm will be done to us as we have all our money back.
We have contacted Fox 4 who alerted us about the previous business name of Blue Springs Party Place and that Jim (or James) OKelly is a registered sex offender. Don't worry as I have posted a link to the MO Sex Offender Registry as well for anyone to check out if you doubt me.
These people are not ethical and are complete frauds. May they have their day in court.

Given not only the individual reviews of this place, but more importantly the owner's very inappropriate response, I would never consider Blue Springs Party Place. Too bad, you lost some good business.

I would like to warn any one considering using this reception hall or anything to do with the owners of this business. They are very dishonest people. I should have researched a bit prior to renting this hall but I didn't & I was taken advantage of. When my husband & I were planning our wedding we decided to rent the hall for our reception. It sounded like a good deal & the owners seemed very kind. I found out along the way I had been fooled. I had a very hard time getting ahold of them. The wife did alterations to my dress & my husbands tux. She told us it would take a week. When I hadn't heard from her in 2 weeks I called them & she said she still wasn't done. I called back in 2 more weeks & she informed me that it they had been done for a week, but she never called to inform me. I got them back 2 weeks prior to my wedding, this was 3 weeks after I was told they would be done. She never called to inform me she needed more time nor did she call to inform me she was done. When I came & picked up our things she didn't appologize, in fact she acted like we were a waste of her time. I was very insulted by the way she acted towards us. Then the 2 weeks prior to the wedding I tried to get ahold of the the owner again so I could finalize all the details as to when we could get in to decorate & he never answered my calls or returned them. Finally 5 days before the wedding I was able to contact him although he told me to call him back to remind him the day before my wedding, which I thought was very unprofessional. I had paid him already & it was not my job to keep track of his schedule. Then 2 days before, while I was in the middle of my wedding rehearsal, he called & informed me he was going to have to relocate my reception to his new location due to there being no electricity at the old location. This was a bar that they were renovating into a comedy club. My husband & I along with a couple family members went to the new location the day before my wedding. It smelled like urine & beer. It was very dirty & dusty. I would have had to redo all my table decorations & spend more money that I did not have. He was very inconsiderate about the position I was in. He told me that was the hazards of planning a reception. He offered to get me a magician for my reception, like that would make up for the stress he was putting me under the day before my wedding. I insisted he make other accomodations. We ended up having the reception at the old location & he got us a generator so we could have some electricity. We had to provide extension cords & lamps to ensure there was enough light throughout the room. Although there was no air conditioning so it was fairly warm. At the reception he was dressed inapropriately for a wedding reception & he took off before it ended leaving a man I had never met in his place He wrote into the contract that he would refund us a portion of the money on June 15, 2 weeks after my wedding. It has been over a month since that date & the only time I was able to speak with him he told me he would call me back in 5 minutesm I never heard from him. Everytime I spoke with him he used foul language (even in front of my 4 year old niece). Although they both pretended to be kind & helpful. If I had researched him before I would never had used him. I do not care how friendly a person is. If they are dishonest & inconsiderate it is not worth it.

This is the owner of Blue Springs Party Place. I am responding to Paul Cavanaugh, who was kind enough to write a nice letter here.

It seems like out of every 50 people, the 1 that wines & changes the facts of a complaint always says bad things about ANY business. It's sad, but a way of life.

Paul C. came in 2 hours early on his scheduled day, and we were kind enough to let him in, FREE!!. He says things were worse each time he visited. NO!! Nothing had changed.

He KNEW of plumbing issues when he booked. ALL POTENTIAL CLIENTS are given a complete tour when they come in, and are told everything, good and bad! They know all! Then they complain After the fact? Just a typical person trying to get a refund. That's pretty sad!!

Now on the charge card. Paul C. did NOT PLACE A common cash damage deposit. Since i allowed this, HE WAS TOLD THAT ANY DAMAGE AND THEFT WOULD BE BILLED TO HIS CARD!!! That is common with MANY halls. He was also told that SEVERAL DIFFERENT 3rd parties handles our charges, NOT US!! Including KCP&L. Any he acts like he did not know this? YES, HE DID RECEIVE EXTRA CHARGES!! Why?

He was billed in 3 payments. One of the first, $349, did NOT go through. It froze. So we re-entered it. It was approved. We did not know, but BOTH went thru. We TOLD Paul this had happened, and would re-imburse him, AFTER WE SEE PROOF his card paid this. HE HAS STILL SHOWED NONE.

During his party, his guests WOULD NOT adhere to liquor laws, stole items, including several hundred dollars of beer and liquor IN OUR REFRIGERATOR CLEARLY marked STAY OUT!! PRIVATE!! They also made a VERY nasty mess. He also rented other table items from us, and knew these had to be paid for. HE DID NOT PAY THEM!!

Hence, another charge to his card. This customer is not honest at all!!
He does have a little coming, minus these charges;

1. Stolen antique "KOOL" ashcan................$100
2. Stolen liquor...............................................$200
3. Rented centerpieces and table cloths.....$100
4. Unnecessary messes, and rule vio..........$100

This amounts to $500. He says we charges his card around $540. Fine. We will refund the difference, if he reads this.

It's sad an occasional customer is like this!! Jim

*CAUTION* I gave Blue Springs Party Place a deposit check of $600 on 7/31/2009 and I cancelled within the 3 days and for over 2 months(today is 10/15/2009) I have been refunded $200 and a check from the business for the remaining $400 that will not clear the bank because of insufficient funds. I have an active complaint with the Better Business Bureau on the business. *Caution*

We had a wedding there in May. Prices were very good. They gave us extra hours for cleanup. Building is old, but decorated nicely. Has kitchen and large bathrooms. We liked the wide area of parking. They provided DJ. He was great.

Owners were VERY helpful. Tables and chairs were provided.
