I used to take my pooch to D is for Doggy frequently for Day Care Services. It seems there has been a change in ownership/staff and things have just not been the same. I have them given plenty of chances. There is no more personalized attention from the owner, like there used to be from Gina (the previous owner). No photos, or extra special touches that made me feel that my pet was special, not my pet and I are more of a business transaction. D is for Doggy is not cheap and please spend your money elsewhere. I have found another daycare and we are much happier. Search on Citysearch for more options!

I love D is for Doggy. All the staff really cares about my baby, and they go above and beyond to ensure my dog is happy. I would not leave my dog anywhere else.

I love D is for Doggy I have been going there since they opened and I have never had any complaint. My dog races to get there every morning and gets so excited when he sees the staff. The staff are very helpful, friendly, and are great with the dogs. They are very clean and organized. I feel very comfortable leaving my dog their and their webcam is a great assurance.
If you have your doubts about D is for Doggy I suggest you stop by and try their free screen test where you have your dog stay there a few hours to see if he or she has a good time. I'm sure you and your dog will leave their happier and very impressed.

I left my dog for a week (for the first time) at D is for Doggy and I found the staff to be extremely caring and sweet with her. I also love the webcam that allowed me to check on her everyday while away. She seemed to be doing great.
The place is incredibly clean and well staffed. The small dog room has plenty of light and a window where the dogs can look out or rest up. I really liked the idea of a backyard where the dogs can be let out to go.
The staff is very transparent and happy to talk to you about your dog's progress. I also had my dog groomed at the end and she looked great. Other than being very tired when she got home, she seemed to have a great stay there.
The only downsides were that the rooms are pretty small and I would have preferred a place that kennelled the dogs at night rather than provided open sleeping arrangements. Also, it would be nice if they offered a walking option, although their location isn't all that conducive to walks.

I highly recommend D is for Doggy --and no other place. I live on the UES, but I gladly pay $20 for one-way cabs just to drop off my sweet puppy there. There are other decent doggy daycares/boarding places a lot closer to me, but I believe the owner, Gina, and her staff, personally love and take care of my dog almost like I would.

Pros: Trustworthy, CLEAN, transparent, accountable, awesome service, personal.

Cons: Just that its located a little far for me! But I will continue to go.

I have raised dogs my entire life, and prior to D Is for Doggy never felt secure enough leaving my dogs alone at a daycare center or boarding them. The staff at the center have a true love of dogs and are all thoroughly trained in their well being. The place is much cleaner than any center I have checked out. And trust me,.... I have looked at them all! In addition they have web cams, so I can check on my two little girls while I am at work. My 10 month old puppy has a serious medical condition which prevents her physical activity, and Gina and the staff have been EXTREMELY accommodative. My elder dog loves Gina and Alex so much that whenever we walk by she insists on going in! And any dog person would agree that the dog knows a fellow dog lover. What happened to poor Yogi was a tragic accident. My heart goes out to his family, I can only imagine the pain they are experiencing. I think we are quick to forget that our babies are animals, and accidents do happen. On the exact same day an accident occurred at Bath & Biscuits, and last summer an accident at The Dog Run. Unfortunate accidents do happen. The loving staff at D is for Doggy are not blame. The cleanliness, trained staff and web cams make it one of the best dog day care centers in NYC.

I work in another place in the city and know one thing for sure. The puppy that died at D is for Doggy DID NOT HAVE TO DIE! Yes it might have gotten bit, that happens. But to have enough bites to die from means that no one was in the room watching the dogs. If you don't know enough to get a license for your business like it said on NY1 then how do you know they even know enough to train there people to take care of the dogs? I think there is something very wrong at D is for Doggy and if they don't start training there people and making them STAY in the daycare room then this will happen again.

I bring my dog to D is for Doggy every week and have left her overnight as well, nothing remotely negative has ever happened. In fact my dog always rushes in to greet the staff and she's always playing and wagging her tail when I see her on the web cam. The place is always clean and the staff couldn't be more attentive. It is so wonderful to be able to drop off my dog and feel confident that she is safe and having fun. A tragic accident can happen anytime, anywhere to anyone, it would be a mistake to judge D is for Doggy for something that was an accident and that the entire staff feels very deeply saddened by.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE!
An 8 month old puppy was attacked and died from bite wounds by other dogs at D is for Doggy on 5-22-08. I knew this was coming. The owner purports to know all about dogs and their behavior. She has very little real understanding of dog behavior. I stopped bringing my dog there after I found her being mauled by larger dogs while no one was even in the day care room! I complained to her and she gave me a lie as an answer. She looked me in the eyes and said there are always people in the room. Check the web cam, there aren't! I was so livid that I just walked out. If she knows so much about this business then she might have figured out you need a license to operate, but even that seemingly obvious fact escaped her. More dogs are going to be hurt if she is allowed to continue to operate. I hope she is closed down by the city. Then more dogs don't have to die!

The cageless boarding and daycare is viewable from the front window. All the dogs look happy and comfortable and are supervised! The doggie "living room" even has doggie furniture. So cute! They also offer training classes and have been an endless source of information for helping me with my new puppy. More importantly, the staff are so friendly and everyone seems quite knowledgeable.
