I just recently opened a business up the street and have been going to all the eateries in the hood trying to find something at least half way editable. Not much luck until I walked into the Sling Shot. I don't know what took me so long, but oh baby. I instantly thought Thank God. The food is excellent and on par with many of Portland's finer 4 star restaurants. The service is excellent. I never felt rushed or ignored and i was not left wanting at any time. Great drinks, amazing food at decent prices, relaxed and roomy. What more could you want?

Pros: Great food, Friendly atmosphere, killer art!

Cons: It's not close to my house.

I recently moved down the street from Sling Shot. I absolutely love their food. I have never ordered anything bad from there. Their Macaroni and Cheese is the best I have ever had anywhere and their Chicken Club is delicious with pepper aioli. It is even good cold the next day. The micro brew selection on tap is unmatched. The prices on food and beer are extremely reasonable.
So lets talk about service. I have been ignored every time I have been there. The first time it was a busy late friday night, so we went up to the bar to order. We got ignored at the bar for quite awhile, then eventually a waitress was directed to our table. The second time was an earlier evening, not very busy. The waitress walked by us 20 times with out even looking at us. Finally after about 15 minutes she walked by and looked startled that we were there. The third time there was no one in there but us and 1 person at the bar. Again, ignored for awhile til we walked up to the bar to order. It seems to get any service around there you need to be a regular or wearing plaid. The food and beer is so good I will keep going back. Oh and there is a bar cat which is pretty cool too.

Cons: Service

The Sling Shot lounge is a great bar with great food! The chef has a lot of high-end food experience and it shows in his rendition of neighborhood bar food. The hamburgers are freshly ground and delicious- and super cheap on the happy hour menu. Everything I have eaten there is fantastic. Just yesterday I had chicken noodle soup that had homemade noodles in it- yum! This place is way better than the other, newer, neighborhood hamburger bar and you dont have to wait for an hour just to sit down.

I brought friends that lived in the area (which I don't) originally trying to sell them on it but they were not that desperate to except super crappy service and attitude. They didn't need to. Plenty of places on the way home. I wanted to hang out here. Not possible.

Pros: Air Hockey and other games. Great owner.

Cons: Same problems as most problems.

This could be a really cool bar. Cool building, cool area, cat walking around inside BUT - the bartenders are total A-holes! I will never set foot inside that place again because of how I, and many others, were treated. I'm surprised the place hasn't gone out of business yet.

Note to the owner: Get your bartenders in check.

I live in the neighborhood of the Slingshot. I went in on a Friday evening about 8 pm. There were about a dozen people there. The air was pretty clean and there are 2 smoke scrubbers and ceiling fans to keep the smoke at more than tolerable levels. The jukebox was full of punk and rock tunes that tell a lover of punk filled the playlists. The bar is well stocked and there is an awesome variety of unusual brews on tap - Anchor Steam, Pilsner Urqhel, Frambois and a Klamath Basin Stout that is smooth and chocolate-y, it's my new favorite. Dollar Oly's! The bartender tonight was friendly and attentive bartender. The decor is pretty unique with large framed photos of some hard corp Yakuza tattoo art. The pinball machines are entertaining. The bar has comfortable stools and the booths are huge, seating six comfortably and able to sit a party of 8. Having read pdxgirlz review, it didn't seem to fit my experience. A regular told me that the Slingshot opened less than 5 months ago and there had been some bar staff that hadn't worked out and are no longer there. Whatever, I'm making the Slingshot a regular stop. It's new and really seems to be building toward being a special place in this neighborhood.

Someone recommended Slingshot and at first, I thought it had potential. Not anymore. The service is basically non-exsistent. There are usually 2 other tables (at least when I pop in on Friday nights) and the bartender is stuck behind the bar doing a whole lot of nothing but occasionally talking to his friends. I guess we have to make friends with him to get served? Also, the atmosphere is well, boxy. The place is a rectangle and that's about it. There's a jukebox with pretty decent music, although, variety is important esp with music. I like old punk rock and a little metal-it reminds me of my youth. However, I like lots of music as I would surmise most other people do, as well. I rarely see more than 5 other people in the place. No-one looks like they are having a good time. Even the owner's friends look sad (and they aren't even emo-boys-they are just boring). The five people that hang out there are so sad that they chain-smoke. I am a smoker but don't need to smoke in there. I can easily poke my head up and inhale from the cloud that is ever-present. The ventilation system seems to be cross breeze from the front and back door propped open always. That's a fantastic solution for someone who is too cheap to invest in a real ventilation system however, my legs are usually numb from the cold when we leave (which is oddly always after one drink). I think the owner opened the place so he could listen to his music, drink his booze and hang out with his friends. Perhaps he should have done that at home. The space has potential. We tried to like it. We had a strong recommend. It is a fairly good locale. But we cannot ignore the facts any longer. Slingshot is lame.

Right, and last night my friend was served a half a drink. Nice. We won't go back.

So the lowdown is; bad service, bad drinks, boxy, smoky, boring.

This is an awesome new bar in SE Portland, and has very cold, cheap beer and a great jukebox. The staff is friendly and the artwork on the walls is very unique.
