Porters is one of my favorite places to go for a night out. The food is great, the atmosphere and decor very nice. They have live bands and a dance floor which makes it a great place to bring friends on the weekend. Also, the staff is always friendly!

The intimate fine dining area is dressed in dark wood panelling with an ambience that reminds me of Sardi's in New York City.

Begin with Oysters Rockefeller, my favorite. My wife doesn't eat oysters but when I insisted that she just taste one, she insisted that we share the platter!

We have eaten at Porters several times and each time the food has been delicious and perfectly prepared. The Scampi, Jumbo Scallops, Jambalaya, Creole Catfish, are delectable. Their grill selection is equal to their seafood menu. We've enjoyed perfectly prepared Filet and Chops and their mouth watering Rack of Lamb.

The only (marginally) negative experience we have had is that on one visit, they were a little understaffed and very busy. We received an apology from our waiter and a free dessert.

Today we planned to go to Porter's for lunch but found that they are not open on Monday. :-( But we will be dining there tomorrow!

Pros: Oysters Rockefeller to Jambalaya - It's all there!

A couple weekends ago, I came to Porters to dine with a couple of friends and the atmosphere was not what I anticipated. First of all, they are a sports bar and fine dining establishment in one, which really doesn't seem to work. We came on a Friday night and ate in Porters around 830 and Friday and Saturday nights they have live music...well it became quite a disturbance while we were eating because the music echoed in our part. Then the service was absolutely awful, our server had to double check questions we had about the menu. Also, our server was very rushed and stressed and just made our experience unwelcome. Then seeing what seemed to be the management just sitting around at the bar drinking and socializing with coworkers they came off careless about their position there and probably should have been bettering their staff. The bar was kinda pricey, even for a ''fine dining'' establishment, and the variety/creativeness of the drinks were not great. The food was probably the only good thing about our visit, but food only gets you so far...service and management is the heart of a restaurant and Porter's Oyster Bar is like I said, amateur dining at best....I can find better service at Applebee's or Chili's, even though I'd rather stay in than eat at either of those places. My advice, don't waste your time or money here.

I've been wanting to eat at this restaurant for sometime. One of my girlfriends asked me if I wanted to go out to dinner and she picked this restaurant. FINALLY, I got my chance. First of all, there is no official parking lot. The restaurant is located on Rt. 14. It's not a stand alone restaurant but next to a couple other smaller storefront types of businesses. Parking was a hassle. Once I finally found a spot I had to do alot of walking.

The food was okay, I did enjoy my meal. The menu did not offer lots of choices. They serve shrimp, crabcakes, crab legs, filet, prime rib, pork chops and a couple pasta dishes and sandwiches.

The tables were small and close together which personally drives me nuts. The last thing I want to hear is the table next to me. There is also live entertainment, which we were not around long enough to hear or see.

Overall, I wouldn't go back. I'm glad I went, and I did enjoy myself. However, the seating and parking was such a nuisance. If the meal was incredible maybe I could be persuaded. Unfortunately, it was not all that fancy, just an average meal.

PROS:
CONS: parking and seating
