I've been going there since it opened, and have never had the slightest negative experience. The food is varied and tasteful, and the servers there know when to come to your table and when to leave you alone, something many venues could use lessons about.

I came looking for a good sushi lunch and a unique atmosphere, and was apalled at the most terrible service I've ever had, in any city, anywhere. At first we (a group of four) were greeted by a very rude hostess who looked as if she was suffering a severe hangover. The waiter seemed pleasant until, upon ordering, he threatened that if we did not order a large amount of (overpriced) food as a group, that it was likely we would not receive our food at the same time and that one of us could be finished with our meal before another was even served, because there were 500 people upstairs for brunch. Really?! The entire Gansevoort doesn't even hold that many guests! I was completely embarassed by bringing my out-of-town guests here. What a sham. If you are in the area and want sushi without the 'tude, go grab some takeout at The Lobster Place in Chelsea Market...

I've been here once for drinks only. I had a nice time - there was music and it was a pretty relaxed atmopshere. Drinks were expensive, but that is expected in a place like that. I can't think of anything negative to say.

The doorman is doing his job. theres no reason this place should be "dissed" by people who cannot dress up for dinner. If you were an owner of a resturant club, you would open your eyes to the fact, good looking people attract more good looking people... The place is great , (if it is your scene) if not, dont try making it your scene.. try going to a fastfood resturant. you will mostlikely be able to get in there :)

To the contrary of many users who have posted anything regarding Ono Garden. I had a magnificent time on Saturday night with my girlfriends, The staff was great, and the doorman was very polite and gorgeous :)!!!! I will definitely be back before the summers over... Yeeeee-haw

Come here to experience NY at its worst and ruin your evening. You've never seen more crass, rude help (especially the creep at the door).

From the point of a spectator standing outside of the walls, the bar seemed to be jumping. The DJ was playing good songs and the walls provided mystery. However, once inside and the mystery ceased, the bar lacked intensity and allure.

As most New Yorkers have probably dealt with, finding the perfect birthday venue is like trying to get cross-town during rush hour in a cab! Needless to say, my best friend did a lot of research before deciding upon Garden of Ono. She ultimately picked the place because, although she enjoys many of NY's hot spots, after a personal meeting with the manager beforehand, she was assured that ALL of her friends would have no problem getting in. The manager's exact words were, and this is verbatim, "An entire football team of guys will get in."

I'm a bit confused, because not only could an entire football team of guys not get in...but one guy could not, nor could a group of attractive girls! The bouncer was so rude, I have never experienced anything like this in my life! It was a sharp contradiction to what the manager had promised, and completely undermined my friend's reason for having her party there-- she didn't want to be stressed about getting her friends in. Not only did she have to stand at the door for the first hour to try and get her friends in, the bouncer was extremely rude, and at times verbally abusive! I am just completely disgusted by the rude treatment!

Luckily, we didn't let it ruin our night, and made our way to the bar asap! The drinks are also extremely watered down, but we remedied that by taking shots! I will never return to Garden of Ono again. Although a cool atmosphere, the way we were treated was unforgivable, especially after what we were promised. There are plenty of other fun venues with a great outdoor area, where bouncers aren't disgustingly rude-- AVOID this place!

I went last night for a good friends party, and I have never been more disgusted by the quality of service both at the door and by the management. Not only were they extremely elitist about who they let in (I was told that many people in our party did not "fit in," and when I asked why, I was told that it was obvious just by "looking at them"), but also the bar is not worth the hype.

We had spend over $1000 dollars on dinner in the restaurant, and were still treated in a way that I wouldn't treat my worst enemy. However, we ended up having a good night after we left.

In conclusion, I recommend NEVER going to Ono, both because of the service and personnel, and the fact that it is not nearly all it's cracked up to be. You'll have more fun at a dive bar around the corner.

Garden of Ono is one of the trendiest spots in new york city. The dining area is amazingly decorated with smart lighting design and the outside garden is magnificent to start a night out. The place is decorated in a modern chic japanese style and even the bathroom is spotless. Small plates of sushi are available and the place is wisely decorated so that no weather can bother new yorkers who wish to start out a trendy+chill night at this upscale spot. It is not too crowded unlike many clubs/bars and you can enjoy a conversation with people without yelling in their ears. I barely leave comments on bars and clubs or even restaurants but this is a two thumbs up, basically I would call it the "IT" place. Im not too sure why people have negative views on Ono, but once you are in, the bouncers and doormen and the rest of the staff (esp the bartenders) are very polite and nice.
I would highly recommend it to everyone, IF you can get in that is. The doormen are very strict and you need to be smart about how to get in. Please dress up, the guy managers are all in suits and the female managers all look like models and walk around in their Louboutins. This is not the place to wear your jeans with a tank top.

This is a really great spot to hang out... the garden is really great, especially in the summer. Unlike a club where its loud and nasty, this has just the right amount of people, its outside, and its not too loud or crowded. Plus its in a great spot to start off the night.. great area, so you can bounce around from place to place. The food, however is not that great, but what can you expect? Its a hotel. It is not world-class sushi by any means, and it is expensive for what it is.. but if youa re looking for a good place for an event this is it.

Went to the Garden of Ono last Saturday for half an hour as one of our bar-hopping-night stops. We got in with no problem, no question asked no reservation needed. The drink is so-so for the price, but the atmosphere is good, music is decent and not too loud. Most of the people there were decent looking and nice, with exception of a bunch guys a little too drunk to keep their frigers off my girlfriend. Overall this is a good place to hang out for a group party where people prefer to chat without shouting into each other's ears.

This place is as close to a beach resort as you will find in the meat packing district...the lounge layout coupled with cabanas and cool tunes makes this a great escape on sunny days...the food is awesome to boot...it comes with a steep price though if you are hungry.

No place like it in New York City. Those who complain have not tried it in its 3rd and best season, or they have not even gotten passed the door. There is only space for 250 people, so if you are not dressed appropriately and the guy to girl ratio, is not proper, then you may not be allowed entry. All tables are reserved for Bottle service and drinks are $14 a pop, so save up. There is bamboo, trickling fountains and "Cabanas" that bring the true meaning to the word "Cabana". Unlike the Maritime, Cabanas, lack there of. With all of this grandeur at no time will the doorman be rude. Once inside, its as if you have entered a hidden section of the Delano Hotel, in Miami. You will not regret your experience. Space is at a premium and time is of an essence, as this beautiful oasis is seasonal and closes as the first frost appears.

I went there one night with a group of 6 female friends. The door guy was rude and didn't even look our way. He finally mentioned that we had to buy a bottle. Meanwhile he was letting people that he knew into the bar without any problems. When we questioned him about those other parties, he just ignored us and never looked our way or acknowledged us. There is a total lack of common courtesy. As far as I'm concerned, I hope this place gets shut down or loses their clientele.

After living in Manhattan for the past decade and being let in to the most trendy spots without a problem (in and out of the States), the doorman would not let me in to meet my group which was already there because I would not tell him my home address, where I was the night before among other personal information. In this day and age where we have bouncers in the city stalking single females, I found this to be absolutely out of line....so I texted my friends, who were inside for the past hour or so spending oodles of money, and they came out and left. Oh, and the catch...he told me I wasn't meeting anyone...like I go out on Thursday nights alone and pretend...please, you have GOT to be kidding me. Never, ever again will I go there and I will be SURE to let all my girls know not to do the same...the funny part, when my friends came out, the barely speaking english doorman turned his back and pretended not to see them. Ahh, they said it was not great inside anyway so we took our business elsewhere and were much, much happier!

1am on a Thursday and I need a reservation to get in? Are you people kidding me. Learn to work a rope.

This place is very trendy, which some people like, including myself sometimes, and if you dress/look the part and are willing to drop loot or are meeting a party that is already inside it shouldn't be a problem. A lot of people from the hotel are here, so hit other places in the area.

Cash rules everything around us....you know how the song goes.

I give this place a year before ownership changes.

can't stand this place. service sucked. drinks are extremely overpriced and there weren't any pretty people in the place to warrant the door guy's major attitude.
can't believe i put up with the queen and watched him dismiss people while they were in mid-sentence. he finally let us in ... to find absolutely nothing special.
