Someone asked me about this review the other day so just for the record I'd like to say that I've never been and never will be paid on commission. My goal is to always treat our client's pets better than my own and to treat clients like I treated my grandmother (I loved my grandmother more than you can imagine). I try to listen to all of their concerns, explain all of their options in terms they can understand, and to come up with a plan that makes sense. The main reason that I often perform expensive diagnostic tests or recommend referral to specialists (such as those at NCSU-CVM) is that both are now available. Not too long ago, veterinarians didn't have quick access to blood results, imaging, endoscopy, and to specialists in such fields as oncology, cardiology, and opthalmology. My own laboratory can generate an entire CBC, chemistry panel, and a set of electrolyte values in about 30 minutes. Fortunately, improvements like that are becoming more common and concerned veterinarians such as myself now have the ability to rapidly help our clients pets in almost every situation.

Did not seem very concerned about my pet's welfare....was more interested in trying to sell me heartworm and flea preventions. Got the impression that he was working on commission! Also recommended lots of expensive tests which may or may not have resulted in a diagnosis. In the end, he suggested that I take my dog to Raleigh to NC State's Veterinary school. Needless to say, I paid my "padded" bill and sought a second opionion elsewhere. Won't go back to "Dr." Wheelis.
