Gambino's offers below par semi-Italian American cuisine. Being a lover of New York style brick oven pizza, I ordered a pie with spinach, mushroom, and meatball topping. The pizza was overloaded with undercooked over-processed mozzarella on top of unmemorable crust with undetectable sauce and toppings. The pizza was undercooked and greasy. Like Chuck E. Cheese's. Basically, overprice and unflavorful. To give credit were it is deserved. The staff was great. The entrees may be better, but I doubt it.

Gambino's is back! After a year or so in which they razed the old building and started from scratch, they've rebuilt in the same location. The new, much larger restaurant is clean, bright, and modern-looking, and they have a decent menu to match.

We had dinner there the weekend before Christmas, so it was quiet, with just a couple of family groups dining in. Service was decent and the food was good.

We started with a very satisfying antipasto platter of salami, cheese, olives, ham, bread, and olive oil with balsamic vinegar for dipping.
Our salads were nice & fresh -- the caesar was crispy (if a little heavy on the dressing) with decent croutons and lots of parmesan, while the house salad, happily, was more than plain iceberg.
We were a little disappointed that they didn't have a ministrone or the lentil soup which had been a great feature at the original Gambino's. Let's hope they bring that back.
Our main course was a thin crust all-meat pizza with extra toppings (mmm, fresh tomatoes!) and a bottle of Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet. The waiter needed to practice his wine service, but more practice (and maybe training) will fix that.

I was surprized that they didn't have a fully loaded combination pizza on the menu, but they did have some nice pre-loaded pizzas to choose from and a good list of toppings to add. They also feature a good selection of sandwiches and pasta dishes, but we were up for pizza. The wine list was a little limited, but the prices were very reasonable.

We're glad to see them up and serving again, and we'll probably be regulars.

For some reason, they closed down a year or two ago, but fairly recently they reopened and have a really nice looking, clean place. I couldn't say where they were located before, but they are still close to the U of I across the street from the pita pit and taco time on sixth street.

While they are a little pricey, maybe too much so for your average college-students budget, the portion sizes are HUGE. I easily make two to three meals of the dishes they serve. I have not tried their stuffed pizza because of how long it takes and its cost, but people i have talked to say that they would recommend it. I am very sensitive to certain tastes and smells and they seem to use just the right amount of garlic in their food. The other italian restaurant, Tucci's, on the east side of town uses way too much and until recently was the only place within 7 miles to get italian food. So i am glad to have Gambino's as an alternative.

The Chicago-themed restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but can get very loud (small restaurant).

Overall, i would recommend this restaurant to people looking for decent italian food and left overs for the next few days.

This restaurant has been completely remodeled since my last review and the food and service has improved as well. The pizza crust is thin and crispy, the Zonkers are tasty and filling, the service is fast, the host is friendly and they have the only revolving door that I am aware of in the area, which makes them novel as well. I would recommend going here with family or friends, in groups of two to eight people.

Old Review, 2005:

OVERRATED

It isn't as nice as it could be- I avoid the bathrooms when possible, and the food varies greatly from mediocre to pretty good. But the major thing that annoys me is the slooow service. I have been there only three times in the past year, but each time it was the service that wasn't up to par.

PROS: Friendly, decent atmosphere, close to campus
CONS: Only okay food, not exceptionally clean, poor service

it is italian food. so it's real heavan for some one like me!

Gambino's has been for quite a long time in this university town - it is celebrating 20 years on the palouse. All you can eat luncheon buffet Monday thru Friday - that's very good for university students, as this is conveniently located just across the street from the university of Idhao. They also have nightly specials. I would recommend this Italian restaurant to any one. Any way that's the only one italian here in the town. and our family like it.
