Toraya has very original, fresh tasting sushi rolls, I would definitely recommend this place if you're in town. Try the sake too, I thought the prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. I hope to go back sometime!

I stayed in Japan town for one night and wanted sushi so bad! we went across the street to Isobune but it was a too long of wait...so we wondered back across the street and walked right in to one of the best sushi restaurants i have ever experienced! rolls were creative and different. fish was fresh. and sake was the best! icant wait to go back!!

Pros: fresh fish and creative rolls

Cons: slow service

If you want the best fish and the best sake, look no further than Toraya. The robata grill is something special - you won't find it anywhere else. Frank gets seasonal items that are fresh from the ocean. The best there is.

Toraya (known as "Frank's" after the owner Frank Takao) has killer sushi, very fresh and a huge selection of cold sakes as well. There's a reason why Frank has a cult following of sushi aficianados that are regulars. It's the place I bring my business associates from Japan when I want to knock their socks off with sushi in the US.

Personally I find that letting Frank order for me works the best. There are cheaper places, but none better.

Pros: fresh sushi, cold Sake, Frank's creativity

Cons: Parking

As I sit here eating the ice cream sandwich I treated myself to make up for the mis-call on dinner, I write to you to say- THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER PLACES TO EAT SUSHI! It was fresh- YES; but how do you screw up a california roll? And can you cut the sashimi any thinner? Almost $100 for two ; I'll go to godzilla or marina sushi and spend a little more than half this for way better quality. I've made the mistake for you this time.

The Miso soup was the best I've ever had. That's where it ended. Very thin slices of fish that is way way overpriced for what you get. Nothing special about this place at all.

We are big sushi eaters and this one is on the top of our list. From the charming service to the very fresh fish to the comfortable atmosphere, we have enjoyed a couple of meals in this lovely little restaurant. It's not cheap, but its worth the cost.

Pros: extremely fresh, good service

Cons: parking

Frank Takao makes the best, freshest sushi in town. His scallop sushi can beat any sushi restaurant in the US (and I should know since I've eaten Sushi in all the "hot" places: NYC, LA, Seattle). The menu changes daily with whatever is the freshest fish Frank can find. Did I mention, fresh fish, DAILY? You want rolls? Well, Toraya has some of the most innovated and yet traditional to offer! Try the smoked trout roll, fresh cold-smoked rainbow trout all wrapped up in an inside-out roll smothered in tobiko! You like Sake? Toraya has the best selection of Japanese sake, served cold. My personal favorite is Utamaro, but Frank is always finding new ones to feature monthly! Check out the sake bar while you wait for your seat at the sushi bar or after you've had your fill of fish!

Pros: Sake Bar, Unsual Dishes, Table Seating

Cons: Pricey

this is one of the few sushi bars with great sake & fresh (live) sushi, that is owned by a JAPANESE CHEF. There are too many other people that don't understand sushi opening "sushi" bars serving frozen fish that is not in season. If everything on the sushi menu is available - run the other way - everything on that menu is never is season!!!

Pros: fresh, "eye food", not crowded

Cons: pricey

I have eaten at sushi restaurants in NY, LA and SF.
Toraya is the freshest and most innovative anywhere. I should know; I have been driving 76 miles from Tracy for 19 years eating at "Frank's"

WANDA'S A BABE!!! WANDA ROCKS!!!

Pros: fresh fish daily, friendly, very reasonable
