The location and ambience of the area is awful and scary; exactly as others have said. Interior isn't bad, but the food just isn't up to par. Bland flavors that were often too bad to eat. Might be a good place to grab a drink while you get an oil change for your car, but that's all.

Cons: Location, Food

Bland food at best; poorly prepared. Worst executed pig's head terrine ever. Don't be fooled like I was; it's better to avoid Travertine. You can use your time better than waiting for 2 hrs in a dirty part of town to get a mediocre meal.

I ordered supposedly signature dishes, the fagottini and quail. The fagottini was overcooked and the quail was dry. Ugh. Avoid.

While I'm pretty patient with waiters, Travertine really tested my patience. Our waiter spent 15 minutes chatting with some girls across the way, completely ignoring our table, forgetting to drinks and even bringing the complete wrong dish for one of us. When we were lucky enough to have her attention, she was unfriendly and unhelpful. The food was mediocre, the desserts even worse and the presentation lacking.

Way overpriced given bad location, food and service.

Had a reservation on a Friday night and arrived on time and was seated 30 minutes late. Bad start so far... proceeded to go through the wine list and select a wine, appetizer, and main courses over the next 15 minutes.... only problem was no one seemed inclined to want to take our order or so much as provide us with water... I figured this probably wasn't a good way to start the night, so we left... mind you the restaurant was probably only 65% full, so it definitely wasn't a case of an overwhelmed staff. Food prices also seemed high given the very low-rent / dirty location ... good food? Maybe, but I'll never return to find out...

I have dined at many top restaurants during my travels in Europe and Asia, and Travertine is very far removed from the top. The manager is rude and had an attitude (doesn't realize only a chief server). My party was told to come back2 hours later at 10pm even though there were many empty tables (on a Wednesday night). Food was mediocre for an overpriced selection. Don't waste your time at this establishment. The owner of Travertine should consider replacing his senior staff if he's serious about his business.

I don't mind paying up for a meal as long as the food is decent and the service is good......I was visiting home in NY for about 12 days and this was the only chance I had to have a nice dinner in the City. Should have just picked a diner to eat at. You can not believe how disapointed I was. Food was average, price was high, service, terrible, a big minus. Location as bad as they get. Take your money else where!!!

Travertine is brand new and great...the atmosphere is chic, cozy and contemporary. The maitre-d', Joseph, was friendly and accomodating...the waitstaff was fast and thorough but the best thing about this place is the food...HOLY COW....the four of us split a cheese platter and two pastas to start which were heavenly...then, the swordfish was mouth watering and then we split three desserts....worth every calorie. The chef is named Memo...he came out and greeted us and told us about his special dishes...very friendly....I will eat at Travertine again and again and I have recommended it to several friends!!! Loved it!!!

Pros: The Black Spaghetti is still in my dreams...it was AMAZING!

The first thing that strikes me is the ambiance, all the different areas and aspects of this ambitious and open space place are made to feel connected. The bartenders/mixologists surprise with instant inventions according to your taste. The menu has the same inventive yet simple approach. I highly recommend the lamb! However I feel as a whole, the kitchen lacks in follow through; a certain confidence. There lays great potential in Travertine - suppose it is only natural for a new restaurant to find it's feet. I will revisit for sure!

Cons: New on the scene - still finding it's feet.

I wasn't impressed.

The food was below average and the prices are high.

The surrounding area left me speechless. Awful.

The service is slow, and impersonal.

Pros: Decor

Cons: Food, Location, Price

.

Horiffic experience by apathetic, discourteous, bad-mannered, disrespectful and insolent staff.

This includes everyone from host to server to manager.

With so many excellent restaurants in the city, I don't understand why anyone would choose this one. Prices are way beyond the quality of the food or the location of the restaurant. It's actually really puzzling. Portion size much below that of comparable establishments. I don't understand the good reviews. They are undeserved as this is a sub-standard restaurant by any judgment.

There are easily 40 restaurtants in the same cuisine class in New York I would visit before I would waste another dollar in this awful place. I was embarassed at the fact that I brought my wife and in-laws there for dinner on Friday night. Upon arrival, the host/gm tried to sit the four of us around a 2 top. After that, the waitress brought us our first drink order only 2 of the four drinks were completely wrong. The sommelier tried to push a cabernet on us when my father in-law asked for a suggestion in the merlot category and when I made a pick, they brought us the wrong year. My quail was dry and not warm and my wife's fagottini tasted like very overcooked. The location is dirty and surrounded by mechanics shops (should have listened to the NY Times!). In short, this place stinks.

I went to Travertine this evening with a group of 12 people. The service could not have been better ?? we were able to take our time at the bar and didn't feel rushed to get the party started. The service was wonderful and the staff worked with me to plan a menu that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

We loved everything about the meal and especially loved the space ?? can't wait to go back with a different group of friends and experience the night all over again!

Worst Service. I have been in the industry for 8 years, traveled to parts of the world where service is at its worst and this place had such poor service i cant even believe it. We were seated 30 min late and then we all sat at the table for 20 min before someone even approached us. We had to ask 3 people for menus. It was like pulling teeth getting someone to help us. We got are appetizers before our wine. We finished the wine in a few seconds. I told the waitress to have an extra bottle ready which she didn't do. We then waited for 20 min or her to come back. empty water glasses, used plates everywhere. Total disaster. Then as we all finally got are entrees she forgot 2 of my friends pastas. Didn't apologize or seem the least bit effected. We were completely neglected..... Since their was an auto grat we had no say in how much to leave for a tip. I literally had to get up from the table to hunt down a server 6 times. Worst, Worst, Worst...

I had an awful time at Travertine. Terrible portions and overpriced food. The location is flat out scary at night.

Went their with friends with average expectations and was more than disappointed.First of all when we finally sat down to order we spent 20 mins looking at their scant menu and decided. So of course we order it and they do not have it and are out of it..lol

No big deal it happens right? Wrong

THE NEXT TWO THINGS WE ORDERED THEY DID NOT HAVE ON THE MENU EITHER AFTER WE SPENT ANOTHER 5 MINS DECIDING..

You would think the waitress would be smart enough to tell us that as soon as we sat down or as soon as they did not have the first thing we ordered..NOPE

She was just a face and made no apology whatsoever and made it seem like it was our fault they did not have what we wanted. When i say the worst waitress i have had in years im not exaggerating in the slightest. We ordered the pig's head terrine, which is one of the worst tasting dishes I have ever had. After that, I made the safe choice and ordered the fagottini..lukewarm and average

The place is just another bad restaurant trying to pose as a hipster place, but the problem is that it's in an awful location. Full of trash and mechanics shops. Last place I want to go for hip and modern. All 4 of us hated the food and thought the experience was WAY overpriced.

Avoid.

Pros: NONE WHATSOEVER EXCEPT THE OLIVE OIL WAS OK AND LOCATIONS

Cons: Too many to List....SERIOUSLY TOO MANY

I just checked this new spot out on a recommendation from a friend and it was amazing. First the atmosphere is warm and intimate and very cozy while having a great design. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful and very welcoming - a nice change from the snooty places I usually go. I could tell they were excited I was there. The food was great and the quantities were perfect. I left feeling satisfied - not too full, not too empty. Over all I highly recommend. I think they hit the nail on the head with the food and decor combination and this is a jewel of a restaurant! DEFINITELY CHECK IT OUT!

The service at Travertine was the worst I have ever had in New York. They seated my party 30 minutes late, then it took the waiter nearly 25 minutes to bring us our menus and take our drink orders. After about another 10 minutes we still had not received any bread, so one of my friends stood up and served our table bread. The bus boy came over and laughed - it was not a joke, it was pathetic. The food was edible, but that is about it. The location is dirty and full of trash from the mechanic shops and chinatown. There are so many excellent restaurants in New York for the same price, please take my advice and go to another one.

I have been to Travertine twice now. The first time wasn't great, but I decided to give it another try since I live so close. The ambiance, food and character of the staff went very downhill. I will NEVER visit this venue again. The food is only slightly above average; yet and still the staff serves its customer with an air on superiority. Oh please! This place is now so way below average. With its poorly designed ambient lighting, too loud and poorly selected music, negligent staff and uninspiring drink menu this restaurants now joins the ranks of those restaurants that could have been so much more???

Here's the bottom line, the food wasn't good and the location was really bad. Simple as that.

The decor was nice (or at least looked new), and service was normal, but the poor food quality and awful location ruined the experience.

Travertine should be about 30% as expensive as it is to fit it's cuisine and surroundings.

I have a set of friends who I dine with once a month and we all rotate on choosing the restaurant. Well, this was my month and I usually choose new spots so I did a little research and made reservations at Travertine. Once we were seated and started on our drinks, the waiter told us that the table was reserved in about an hour and a half for another party and that we should order soon. I thought that was a bit rude since it wasn't like we were sitting around drinking air... we were drinking their over priced cocktails... so we were rushed through appetizers, dinner and dessert with the waiter standing over our table and trying to take away our plates before some of us were done...(he literally hovered by us and as soon as anyone put down their fork he was trying to clear their plate) we could barely have a conversation because he kept interrupting us to move on to the next course or to give us the check... I eat out a few times a week and I've never had such rude service. We ended up giving him EXACTLY 15% for a tip (even though he didn't deserve it) and as he was looking at the signed receipt he kind of made a gasping sound as if he couldn't believe how little his tip was...

Just when the Waverly Inn needed a replacement, Travertine comes to the rescue. We had a great night star spotting, eating, drinking and maybe a little bit of dancing on one table (is that allowed?) We had a good old fashioned 'dinner party' turns into party night and will return for the duck and the DJ alone.

What a great night out in such a friendly environment. Oh how they made us feel special. We shared because we had such trouble choosing from the delicious menu. All our meals were soooooo good. The chef must be a pasta guru and the duck was special. But,.....save room for the desserts. They are works of art. I felt guilty about starting to eat, but the taste helped my guilt subside. We will be back for more.
What is with the negative comments in some of the reviews. Citysearch...you need to take a look as I find it hard to believe they are talking about the same place that we enjoyed so much and am sure they have not been there. How some people get their kicks!!!

Pros: Everything - but especially fresh delicious food

.

I appreciate great food but often times find there is a trade off between food and the scene/atmosphere. By what we experienced on Sat night at Travertine I think they may have got it right. We arrived to a sophisticated dinner scene at around 8.30pm which slowly built to feel more like a celebration (of what I remain unsure but it felt great !). You def want to stick around after dinner (10pm onwards) as a DJ arrives and slowly builds the atmosphere to the point where people are dancing at the bar, by their tables etc. Really, I suppose the best thing was that the party didn??t get going till after what seemed to be last dinner service so everyone gets to enjoy their food and conversation in relative sanity.

The approach on cocktails is interesting - They have a small list of signatures but basically we discussed what we liked in our drinks and we had bespoke cocktails made for us. The food was delicious, and light. The menu is a single sheet which we were told changes a number of times a week (it??s a little hard to read in the light). The food is great . . especially the rabbit raggu. Its kind of like a bar pitti meets cipriani (food vs atmosphere) if that makes sense ?

Finally, the dcor is beautiful and the bathrooms are worthy of special mention. As my girlfriends pointed out, they are massive and prob as nicely appointed as any of the best uptown hotels in the city that I??ve been to.

Def going back. The owner was so beautiful and brought us a dessert to share on the house because we had to wait at bar for a bit for our table (which we actually enjoyed )

had a great night here. everything from start to finish was fantastic. drinks at bar was a great place to start, has a great vibe and nice bar area. bar staff made us custom cocktails with only small amount of guidance - fantastic!

food here is really good too. spanish mackerel as a starter was my fav. had the gnocchi with pulled pork as a main and it was really really good. i am a massive gnocchi snob and this one was great.

staff are fantastic and very attentive. they really care. great to see, there's no attitude here, despite the super cool scene.

you can actually have a table for 20 and have the entire upper level to yourself, including curtains pulled around you for your own private party. great idea for a big group.

dj plays good music, its loud but its that kind of place, has a great vibe.

will def be back

Went to Travertine last week with friends in from CA. Our group exceeded the original reservation size. Regardless, the friendly staff quickly accommodated us. We shared various dishes from all sections of the menu. Not a single complaint from start to finish. The Pasta dishes were warm and comforting without being too heavy. Appetizers, great! You have to try the one accompanied by the slaw. The slaw, off the charts.

One might expect to find a restaurant like this in other parts of the city; a welcome change of scenery for the less than eye-appealing bowery. I hope it's a reflection of what's to come in the area. Clean, tasteful, intimate yet sexy.

Good job, Travertine. You didn't disappoint.

One might expect to find a restaurant like this in other parts of the city; a welcome change of scenery for the less than eye-appealing bowery. I hope it's a reflection of what's to come in the area. Clean, tasteful, intimate yet sexy.

Good job, Travertine. You didn't disappoint.

Pros: Food, Music, Atmosphere

.

I have been anticipating this opening for awhile and it was WELL WORTH the wait! I saw the negative reviews on here but I am not sure they even went to the right restaurant and several reviews were quoting food not even on the menu.

Travertine is by far my new favorite hot spot. Gorgeous interior, terrific vibe inside-the music, crowd and friendly staff are amazing.

All of the apps on the menu are worth trying!! My favorite app is the calamari salad by far and the beef carpaccio is so fresh. The garganelli and rabbit ragu are mouth-watering. I have already been back to have seconds. Save room for the sweet corn budino-you will thank me. The menu is seasonal so everything is fresh and I cannot wait to try new things.

Travertine is here to stay-Brilliant new hot spot!

I do not recommend going to Travertine. I hope the terrible service was due to the place being new, not that that is really any excuse. Our waitress let us sit at our table a good 10 minutes before taking our drink orders, by which time we were ready to order. Our drinks finally came at the same time as our appetizers, and we never were served bread. Then I had to wait a good 5 minutes to get a forks for my salad. Our server only returned when our entrees came out, and the runner had to stand there with our food while she cleared our appetizer dishes. At this point she refilled my cocktail glass, which I only took a few sips from, and took away the remainder of my drink - more than half of it! Same thing when dessert came out - our plates were still on the table, because she had never once come to check on how we were doing. The runner dropped off our desserts, and our server disappeared again, without asking if any of us would like coffee (which several of us would have). We sat for about 20 minutes after finishing desert (obviously NOT lingering over coffee) when I saw her come in the front door from her smoke break. At this point we had to flag her down and ask for the check.

All of this could have been a little more forgivable if the food had been amazing - and it wasn't. My entree was advertised to have "oyster mushrooms" and an "onion fig compote." It came with huge hunks of bland supermarket fungi and a bad tasting goo - with not a hint of fig.

I went there last night with my friends, the place was so noisy we couldn't even hear our servcer. We made a reservation and still have to wait 15mins to be seated. The food was horrible, the fish was over cooked and too salty. The pork chop was bad, and it taste like they boiled it instead of grill (it supposed to be grill). You can find any restaurant in NYC is better than this one.

WOW! So I visited this new restaurant and was blown away! I am not sure if those that gave a bad review of Travertine actually went there because my experience from the moment when I walked in the door was phenomenal. I went with two friends from work. We all tried different dishes so we could try as much from the fantastic looking menu as possible! All the dishes we tried were great but I loved the rabbit ragu (oh and the choc mousse!) the best. Apart from the food, the decor really stood out. The owners must have put a lot of thought into the look of the place! The large mirror, exposed brick wall and mosaic on the pylons were beautiful. Oh, and I love the wooden fans - such a homely touch. The only negative would be it was a little chilly ,but we were by the window. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! I will be going back to try the rack of lamb!

Friends were over and we wanted a good dinner in a nice atmosphere. We had a reservation for 9.30 but when we arrived we were told it would take a few minutes more. Happily we went to the bar for a drink. After the first drink, our table was still not ready. we asked again and were told to wait. Nobody even offered us a free drink while we were waiting. Finally seated (after more than 30 minutes), we ordered. The food was ok, nothing special and some dishes were not even appetizing (we did not finish all appetizers, considering we were quite hungry after the long wait, that is a very bad sign). Then the worst part of the evening.. we saw a black/brown insect, (which i cannot specifically name but is a very well-known creature in the jungle and some NY kitchens)... happily crossing the wall behind us. The waiters, after we warned them, did not seem too surprised and it took them five minutes to show up with a napkin (?) to scare the insect away. Again, no excuses whatsoever... we were astonished. Never, ever will we go back Travertine.

the ambiance was cute, it looks like your run of the mill "trendy-ish" place... went here for my birthday, and not as festive as i would have liked.. my carpaccio appetizer was not that great, and my quail entree was a bit dry. my dessert was also just mediocre. The location is also pretty bad and surrounded by dark mechanic shops and chinatown. overall, an ok place in a very bad area and nothing to come back for.

Gorgeous interior. Delicious and well presented food. Friendly, attentive and attractive staff. Gracious owners making the rounds at the tables. A DJ playing groovy background music. Needless to say I had a great night. I'll definitely be frequenting this place. A great addition to a neighborhood already host to some of the best restaurants in NYC.

For me location and food are two of the most important things in a restaurant, and I hate to say it but Travertine got a failing grade in both.

The area itself is dark, dirty, bordering chinatown and a few blocks from a main exit on the bridge. It's a borderline scary area at night; immediately took away from the experience. The one nice thing was the decor inside, but the food was just plain and ordinary, and for me came out room temperature.

Service was Very slow too. Would try Many other places before going here.

We went to Travertine last night and had a horrible time. A group of 8 of us went. The meal took over 2 1/2 hours. We ordered drinks, they took forever. 4 out of 8 of the entrees were wrong. They had to send the entrees back, so we had half the table eating at one time, the other half eating at another time. The food was dry, wouldn't recommend. Even the coffees were wrong! They couldn't get anything right. I would never go back. So not worth it!

I love this new spot. The lighting, the decor, the food, the waitstaff and atmosphere were all wonderful. I went with a group of 6 and we all loved our meal. The carpaccio, pasta and lamb was delicious! And... we were blown away by the incredible deserts. Our service was wonderful, the owners came by and were incredible. We ended up staying and relaxing till late. There was a great crowd there and all and all a most superb night.

This place does NOT serve good mediterannean food (I am from Italy and have high standards hehe). It was so expensive and the meat was dry! Yuck! The drinks were small and not mixed correctly.

B&T crowd comes in since it's right next to entry points into the city, and right within Chinatown. If you live in the city it's not exactly the easiest place to get to, you have to cab it.

I wish I could give this place zero stars.

I had heard about this place opening for the last few months and finally when it did my friends and I were thrilled. We've been waiting in anticipation for ages. Supposedly every restaurant that sat at 19 Kenmare had a curse of failing....well Travertine is FAR from it! This restaurant is incredible. I consider myself quite a foodie and am out to dinner 3+ times a week and I have never walked into a restaurant and been so pleased with what I saw. Travertine doesnt miss a beat....the food is excellent (the carpaccio and EVERY pasta is incredible), wine list extensive, music sets a great vibe & service is quite pleasant...the experience was lovely. And it doenst hurt being surrounded by beautiful people either!! Definitely a must try :) Great for a date or a ladies night

Our experience was extremely uneven and, on balance, disappointing. The food wasn't great and was overshadowed by bad and slow service, and we were located in an area with lots of noise.

My husband and I have wanted to try this restaurant for a while and went this past weekend. The dcor was ok, but the location of the restaurant is horrible. At 8:30 pm, the restaurant was semi-empty. We were seated promptly at a table toward the back of the room and were at an extremely uncomfortable distance from others. There were two other parties about 3 inches to our right and our left. In addition to having other diners so close to us, the acoustics were terribly bad: the sound seemed to rise up, and it was not loud exactly, but somehow incredibly noisy.

The service was bad. The waiter took our order and did not speak to us again. For the remainder of the evening, we were taken care of by the other servers, who, I at first thought, were also badly trained and inattentive (my water glass went completely empty for a while) and seemed rushed.

Our appetizers took a while to arrive, and were mediocre. Then came the 45-minute wait for the main course. After about 35 minutes, one of the servers ran by to tell us that our entrees were coming out shortly, and about 10 minutes later, indeed they did.

My quail was barely warm. It sat outside in the kitchen somewhere for so long that a thin, dry film formed over the jus, and the top of the meat became sticky and hard. At that point I was famished and dared not send the dish back for the fear of another long wait.

We were not asked whether we wanted any coffee or tea or dessert, which, in the end, was for the best, because we could not wait to leave.

This was an uncomfortable and disappointing dining experience (and I am willing put up with A LOT for good food). We will not be going back and I would not recommend this restaurant to others.

It was the worst restaurant experience I have had in the last seven years of living in New York City. I definitely will not be returning to Travertine. First, my seven girlfriends and I had to squeeze into a table intended for 6 - we were so squished our plates touched, our legs touched and our purses were our backrests. Into our appetizer, an adjacent table became available, and we asked if we could use it, but the waiter said it most likely was being used. Weird how the table was empty for the next hour and a half.

Food was average and the dishes never came out at the same time, and each time we had to remind the waiter we were missing someone's entree, dessert, etc. During our meal, we looked like T-Rexes trying to cut our food with our elbows pinned to our sides.

One of my friends complained to the host after the meal who offered an apology and nothing else; we had complained to the hostess who had seated 8 girls in a 6 person booth and our waiter and no one came up with even an apology until then?

The area is awful, poorly lit and made us feel like we were about to get mugged. Not the type of place you want to be when spending money.

We will never go back. There are so many other great places in this city.

Was anticipating heading to this new restaurant...Sleek yet subtle exterior. Chic interior that's warm and inviting. No detail is overlooked.

Had the calamari as an appetizer....it was awesome and the sea bass as a main course was even better. Waitstaff super friendly and chill music throughout dinner made it a place I will definitely return.

This block of Kenmare was in need of a pick-me-up. Can't wait to go back.

Thought this place was amazing. As it just opened I was a little nervous about a 15 top table and the service we may recieve...but was surprised, everything was superb! Food came out in a timely fashion, not to say it was also amazing. Staff very friendly and the environment kept us wanting more. Overall it was something needed in the neighborhood and I will for sure go back. TRY THE CALAMARI it's amazing...as well as the rice pudding!

Not worth wasting money in my opinion. I'm a big restaurant fan and we had heard a lot of news about this place; unfortunately didn't turn out to be worth it at all.

The carpaccio came out room temperature and tasted unusual. Pasta is my favorite food and this was easily some of the worst pasta I've ever had; we had the fagottini and papardelle, both of which were overcooked.

The restaurant is basically in Chinatown and is surrounded by unlit mechanics shops on a shady street. Restaurant was largely empty, so that didn't help either.

Way too expensive and simply not worth it

The location is as bad as they get, the food was average (calamari tasted awful) and came out cold. The staff seemed rude an unapologetic about our experience; maybe we weren't important enough.

Definitely pass.

I have dined ALL over NYC and truly enjoyed my dining experience at Travertine! (Already made another reso!) The food is so fresh and well-balanced in flavors. Every detail about the ambiance is well-thought out. Terrific music, lighting, service... but mostly loved the food! Try the striped bass, the escarole salad, beef carpaccio, and the panna cota! Not to mention, the pasta they serve is mouth-watering as well. I will definitely recommend to my friends!

I went to check out this new restaurant with a group of friends, and was completely impressed! The restaurant had such a great vibe and was beautifully designed, which made me excited to taste the food! Needless to say, everything on the menu was FANTASTIC! My group likes to share, so I was able to taste pretty much everything, and was SO HAPPY that I did! The beef carpaccio was to die for, and DEFINITELY make room for dessert! It will knock your socks off!!! I highly recommend this place, as I will definitely be coming back!!!
