This place is really unbelievable. The training is top-notch and the staff and clientele are professional and friendly. Super clean and stocked with everything you need for an individual workout if you miss class - which you shouldn't! Amateur and pro fighters train with everyone else looking for a great workout, so you know you're getting the real deal. Muay thai instructors are belted and experienced; yoga instructors give you a great workout too. The teachers give you 100% attention all the time. You will never feel bullied or threatened here! Feedback is instant and your partners are looking out for you too. Some might balk at the price but I have never made a better decision than to join this gym!

I love this place! If you wantto take up martial arts this is your place. The teachers here are fantastic and so patient. What a great work out it is and I feel so safe walking down the street.

For those interested in standup fighting and lifting/fitness Five Points is the best deal in the city. To belong to a health club (crunch, equinox, nysc, etc.) and a muay thai gym in NYC would cost upwards of $300/month. The gym is kept almost OCD clean, and in addition to standard weights, machines, etc. includes kettlebells and a climbing rope. The space reserved for Muay Thai also includes a full-size ring, 10-12 bags of varying types, and extensive mat space. Gym membership also includes classes in Kali (filipino stick-fighting).

The vibe at the gym is very mellow, which should make the less athletically inclined feel comfortable, even if they are not the target market.

this place offers AMAZING muay thai (thai kickboxing), in a place where the fighters are serious, but have no ego about themselves, and help everyone else along to become better, no matter what level they are at! i appreciate the laid-back atmosphere, the cleanly, large space (with lots of cardio and weight equipment), and the amazing trainers. the school is continuing to offer more each month too!!! great bang for your buck!!!!!!!

After seeing Million Dollar Baby, I fished around for boxing gyms and then my friend recommended kickboxing and this place. It's not at all what I had expected, I had actually pictured a drab place with Bruce Lee pictures in the office! (And after seeing that gritty boxing gym, my expectations were pretty low).
As college track star who turned to distance running, I can't see this helping anyone with a serious commitment to improving fitness. Perhaps a more fun way to keep weight off for the average ny'er. Plus all of that impact when you hit things. I can't believe no one mentioned anything about it.
So contrary to the glowing reviews of kickboxing from the gym's members, I'm not sold on the merits of kickboxing. Since Five Points focused on Kickboxing, not a great value, but what a great place to participate in the sport.

I've been a member at Five Points since its inception. The reasons I stay? It's a full service gym imbued with a real feeling of community; kickboxers may be the predominant population, but no one is excluded from the fun. If it's a pickup scene you want, go elsewhere. The people at Five Points are concerned with fitness and health, not your sex life.

I came to Five Points on the recommendation of a friend after having been a runner for my entire adult life. I was begining to experience a new level of hip and lower back pain (from arthritis and general overuse). I figured it would would be a good workout without the same impact as running. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that not only is this sport one of the most intense and fun things I've ever done, it is a tougher workout than running! My fitness has increased dramatically and I've been able to work hard even with my lower back constraints. It is also the cleanest, friendliest and most supportive gym I've ever belonged to and I have belonged to them all over the past 20 years. The level of expertise among the owners and instructors is of the highest caliber.

I joined Five Points after watching a sedentary, elastic-waist loving friend lose 20 lbs and start wearing Manolos. She told me it was all due to Five Points. At 36 years old, I was beginning to realize that my regular runs weren't doing the lifting and toning they used to. I'm not a big gym fan,so I joined Five Points with some reservation. I was also a little intimidated that it is primarily a kickboxing gym. A year later, I train two days a week, and my rear is definitely higher and more toned than before. The staff greets me by name, the gym never feels crowded, you can always get a machine or join a class. As for being intimidated, there is a nice mix of serious kickboxing professionals, and Moms like me, just looking for a firmer tush. And we all get along just fine, thank you!

i was sent to five points under doctor's orders after a serious health scare. having never exercised for most of my adult life, i was intimidated at the prospect of joining a gym and working with a trainer. a year and half later i am healthier and stronger than i have ever been, i have lost weight, gone down four clothing sizes and have made exercise a part of my lifestyle. this is all completely a reflection on everyone at five points -- the owners, trainers, etc. the facilities are immaculate, the equipment is all brand new and the trainers are true professionals. i have belonged to nysc, world gym, crunch, etc. and have never stuck with any of them. i cannot recommend five points enough. several of my friends have joined and are thrilled and my eldest child is also doing kids classes there. check it out!

I visited the gym because it allowed members to bring in their own personal trainers - and having just moved from the UES, I wanted to be able to work w/ my personal trainer closer to my new home. However, the gym lacked the amenties I wanted in a gym, espcially at that price!
The near cultish vibe of the kickboxers running around in their mandatory uniforms was also a little creepy. The downscale clientele that martial arts attracts clashed with my expectations of a private gym.
And despite offering 'body work' at spa prices, definitely not a spa environment.
Only join if martial arts is your primary focus. If you want a real gym, you'd be better off at the NYSC up the street.
