December 11, 2010 was such a horrible experiance @ The Drake club. My friend made reservations for her b-day party weeks before and that night the people that work gave her such a hard time because they had no record of her reservations.

ive gone a few saturdays now, the place actually looks pretty good. its up there in the decor and the setting they go for is pretty good. service is decent enough , cant complain. music is great. its all good. i would say if you want a casual place, DONT GO HERE. people say they dont like this place because its not there kind of place. it is a place that tries to be more upscale. at least in looks in the place and how people dress here but the peeps there are still kind of cool for the most part.

I had reserved a table at The Drake on Saturday, December 5, but when I arrived with my party of 12 they denied I ever made a reservation and turned us away. The reservation was made for my boyfriend's surprise birthday party which I had been meticulously planning for weeks.

First of all, it was very hard to get a hold of someone to make a table reservation. I took the contact information from their website and constantly called and emailed weeks in advance, but it took them over a week to get back to me. I should have took their unresponsiveness as a bad sign. When I was finally able to get a hold of the reservationist Ashley, we exchanged details and confirmed my reservation. She told me that since the reservation was for a special occasion a bottle would be $250, my party would be able to skip the line, and there was no cover charge.

My party and I arrived and to our amazement the place was bought out for some lesbian party which Ashley never mentioned. I let the doorman know that I had a reservation, and he told us to wait while he confirmed we were on the guest list. After waiting in the freezing cold for about 15 minutes, Ashley, a short fat ugly woman, comes out with the guest list and said that my name wasn't on the guest list. I was told by the promoter of the event that my guests and I would each have to pay $30 to get in. Needless to say, we left and partied elsewhere.

Wow, this place is for the vertical-stripped, button down d-bags who listen to techno. I was able to hop the line here bc I went with a friend of a friend who knew someone. The line was crazy long, and when I got inside I couldn't figure out why this place is so popular. It is HUGE and this place was so packed that we could hardly have room to dance to the terrible music.

There were girls there were dancing on top of this huge leather looking bench/bed (not a piece of furniture that is made for standing on -let alone dancing) trying to look like strippers or something - they were not even cute and probably under-age. I'm pretty easy to please... how could you not have fun with a group of your girls, music, and drinks? Easy, go to The Drake. Oh, and the drink prices will be different depending on who the bartender is.

I wanted to go out and celebrate a monmentous occasion with firiends. Some one very to dear to me had just graduated with his Doctorate degree and it was time to let off some steam. Being that I was the host I arrived first. The first words out of Doogie's mouth were, 'Sorry, I can't let you in with baggy clothes." I had to address the issue and explain to him, that I am a man of size and i don't and can't wear skinny boy jeans so what you see as baggy is actually fit. After looking me up and down, he let me inside the club.

Once inside the vibe was totally different. I had reserved a table and bottle service for upwards to 12 people. Ashley the M.O.D that night was professional and attentive, that goes for our server as well.

3 of the 12 guest actually got passed Doogie with no issues. But when the guest of honor arrived with 2 additional guests, one of his guests was denied entry becuase,"his I.D. did not look like him" and he was asked to retrieve a second form of Picture I.D. of course my guest did not have a second form of picture I.D. so he was denied entry. Now how many people walk around with multiple forms of picture I.D.?

So when the guest of honor started inquiring about the I.D. issue with Doogie ,then Doogie cliams he felt threatened and was not going to allow the guest of honor inside to his own celebration.

Not once did the guest of honor raise his voice or make any threatening comments or gestures. It was an attempt to have an intelligent and reasonable conversion with another adult. Maybe Doogie was threatended by the big words that were being used.

Needless to say, the guest of honor left with his guests and now I had to contend with getting some sort of compensation for a night ruined by a socially inept little man who obviously was bullied as a child and is now trying to make up for it by working the door of a club.. Luckily the M.O.D was understanding and it did not take much of a fight to get refundied on the reserved table and bottle service.

But you can bet I will be monitoring my bank account online to make sure no charges of any kind appear from the Drake.

I will never step foot inside the Drake again.

I went out with my friends to this place on Friday night. There were not that many people when we came to the ropes but still had to wait some time while being bugged by some third party asking us to donate money to help people in some third world country. Although, I normally give out donations through a church that can demonstrate and provide proof of how the money is being used, I was not quite sure about those people hanging around the entrance there that night.
Anyways, after a long wait we finally got into the club without even being asked for our ids (I do not know what others talk about here in regards to the id issue) and we were very disappointed when we saw a half-empty club inside. I was thinking to myself what was the whole entrance waiting fuss for? The music was very laud which I did not like at all. I literally had to scream from the top of my lungs in order to be heard. I ran out of voice by the time we got out of Drake.
Bartenders were nice though.

Most of you agree that the drake is not a place to visit if you want to have a great time. The guy at the door has let me in twice but when my friends arrive they are denied entrance. The reason giving is that they don't look like the person in the ID. That's a cowards way of saying, I do not like your social standing and physical traits.
I do not support establishments that denie entrance to well dressed people that do not resemble the majority. Not every successful indiividial will wear $300 pants to impress people. Grow up stop ruining the reputation of my beautiful city.
Oh and please ask one of your friends post a five star review. I have never seen so many negative reviews, it is depressing. Not like I care since I will not be returning to read or post a review on the drake.
Oh and once inside the club, you have very intelligent, friendly, people. The ones that make our city a success, but for most part the rest are a bunch of superficial idiots.

I don't understand why the Drake has received such bad reviews. A group of friends and I (5 of us) got in without a problem and we are not white. The door guy was really nice and courteous and so were all the bartenders. We had a blast that night... probably the funnest night Ive had in a while. The music was great and the dancing was great. All in all a wonderful evening - no complaints whatsoever!

Now I rarely go out anymore but when I do I need to have a reserved table and bottle service. I'm too old to wait in line at the bar and bathroom and after I dance I need a place to sit.

Anyhoo a sweet lovely girl recommended I try Drake. I went online and saw it was a posh spot, but then I read the bad reviews concerning the "prejudiced" door boy with the power trip. I said, what the hell and thought we would be okay, because I had a table reserved. I donned my Fendi, real jewels and the guys wore collared shirts, fitted pants and dress shoes.

Needless to say the ones with the Italian and Irish last names were let in, but NOT the only two Mexicans.

After my pals were denied entry we stood there to see who the boy allowed entry to. No one was glam or fabu. Just Dawson Creekers.

I was like whatever. I can spend my $$$$ elsewhere.

The sweet lovely girl felt bad and recommended I try Pandora across the street, so I did. I had pleasant VIP and bottle service. It was a diverse crowd and we ended up having a really good time.

So yeah, I can't believe the little door boy. Please don't spend your money there and spread the word.

No to Drake and yes to Pandora.

This is the first weekend of 2009 and i've had doubts going here amist all the rumors and reviews about this club (not just from citysearch either if you search). So I go there and the guy ...just like all the other reviews, ask me for a second form of id after i show him my driver's license. Now to be honest, the guy was nice about it...going "honestly, it just doesn't look like you". Being asian, inside my head i said bitche we all probably look alike to you anyways.

And for all the other comments of maybe we couldn't get in because of the way we look lik on the outside.....So classics tailored slacks and shirts....i guess they could smell my shirt wasn't gucci ? And pockets only had American Express black n gold cards ? and the couple G's in my pockets weren't enough for the club ? (yeh i came prepared), maybe my car failed their "non-imported" policy...you know admist the whole economic crisis of domestic cars...they wanted help out ? Pretty ironic the valet parking ppl parked my car up in the front facing the club....but bouncer wouldn't let me in. Can't say the club discriminate since i saw other colors too...(but if you're gonna discriminate these days, let one or two in so ppl can't say that you are). For my "people"...trust me its not worth it, even if you trying to impress....throw it at smarter people and being houston...no such thing as being too "exclusive" that you HAVE to get it.

My friend who i was suppose to meet up, white guy with two asian girls ...HMMmm.. you guess it....of course got in...*wonders*....instead of trying....like other people say i rather burn my money than at "the exclusive Drake". Time will tell....but i do warn certain "people", don't make that club your only choice that night and be prepare to bring you a witness and notarized papers before you go...make sure it says " I'm rich.....really really rich....(no wait money doesn't matter there) and most important of all I'm of "exclusive" properties ;).

Cons: Don't know, never got in

We flew in from Seattle and wanted to go to a nice place with an adult crowd after a day of long meetings.....if I knew how they were going to treat us we would have spent out money elsewhere. At the entrance, the bouncer allowed 2 of us in after taking 10 mins to read our IDs and then refused to let in the rest of my party which was stupid and irritating given the fact that we had taken the time to reserve a table. I had to beg and plead and near bribe him to have him let us all in. The people were great. The drinks were good but the experience at the ropes left a bad taste in my mouth. I have to agree with the other reviewer that said the sort of discrimination that is frowned upon was going on. It did come off as is they only let in a select crowd and trust me it had nothing to do with the dress code. I'm taking this place off the list of recommended places to party in Houston when we come back for our next business meeting.

I had heard a lot about this place (the good and the bad) and decided to check the place out. Here is my breakdown: ==1==. Who - My g/f and I. We got in in about 5 minutes on a Saturday (around 11PM). ==2==. Decor - The inside of the club was fairly decent looking. Nothing too fancy but it was better than most Houston clubs. ==3==. Crowd - a mix of new money, pretending to have money, girls looking for guys with money, 3 people whose parents are narcotics dealers (not the street-level-dealer but sitting-on-a-yacht-dealer), maybe 5 black guys, 2 black girls, no asians, some Hispanics of European descent (basically looked white - similar to my g/f), some middle eastern people (yes they too could pass for white people), the token steroid pumpers and there were some nice normal people too. ==4==. Bartenders - Very nice and friendly. ==5==. Owner / manager - some guy named "Darren" (not certain of this). Very polite. ==6==. Doorman - nice guy on this night (nice to everyone). Different doorman on my repeat visit was not so nice to anyone. ==7==. Some girl with a clip board - (not too bright). ==8==. Overall - this is an average place. If you are trying to be somebody but will not quite get there, this is the place for you. If you are somebody, just check it out once, you will not return. If you do not go...no big deal, you will not be missing much. ==9==. To those who compare Drake to high end LA/Vegas/NYC/Miami clubs - please don't do this. This place is not close. Not with it's decor nor with it's "selectiveness". Upper end clubs do not use race as a detemining factor for their clientele. The end goal is to make the most money by running an awesome/classy establishment. Unfortunately my Houston is becoming like Dallas (full of wannabes) and they will probably keep the Drake running for some time. ==10==. Does the club discriminate based on races? Yes (especially against asians and blacks). They allow just enough "colored" people (like me) in to try and avoid the label.

Pros: Good for a single guy looking for some company for the night (girls here chase money)

Cons: Overhyped, full of wannabes. No mensa members here.

I can not say it was racism that one could attribute to the utter mistreatment we encountered or just sheer and total ignorance.
We were attending a birthday party for a dear friend and the music and atmosphere is her kind of thing, however, our experience was tainted as soon as we arrived. The valet opened no doors, looked at us with a blank stare without saying a word before we finally asked him if he was going valet our car and how much it cost. He never said a word to us and just spun out of the driveway. We did not have trouble getting in because so many others in our group had been turned away already that the host for the gathering was not in the club and enjoying his girlfriend's birthday party but rather being the assistant to the bouncer to ensure we would get in without a problem. Per the rest of the group they had a problem with the set up of our table that we reserved; the bottle service was already deemed horrible ... By the time we arrived everyone was in "salvage the night on behalf of the birthday girl mode". We stayed about 30 min's (because my friend was worried about her car we could not have a good time The end of our experience there was like the beginning: The valet pulled up the car, opened the door and pointed to the car (still no words, was he mute or rude?) Cars passing by almost took off her opened driver's side door. ( this was the 1st time I have never tipped a valet-EVER ) Again I don't know if it was because we are African American or if this place has an abundance of rude, incompetent, & obnoxious staff . For those of you who say: "this place is great" let me add clarity: "Great" places often times offers the same service to the whole of their patrons... I understand that they want to cater to an exclusive crowd but should that crowd be exclusively one color? NEVER GOING BACK ~ we can pop bottles in establishments that want our money and work hard to retain it! -

Pros: none

Cons: everything

What are some of you people talking about? If you are on here writing a bad review, it is most likely because you couldn't get in the door. I can't say that I disagree with them not letting people in that can't seem to appreciate the concept of getting dressed up and going out for a night on the town. I've been to bars and nightclubs all over the world and the best of them always have long lines and strict standards for who they let in. Whether you want to recognize it or not, Houston is a major city in the U.S. and should have exclusive clubs like this. DEAL WITH IT!

The Drake plays great music, has respectable service and caters to a high class crowd. I've always had an incredible time when I go with my girlfriends. We dance and drink until our feet hurt and usually meet nice guys in the process. In my eyes, it is the best place to go if you want to get dressed up and go out. If you want to wear scappy jeans and a t-shirt, go somewhere else.

Pros: Great mix of diverse music, generally nice looking and well dressed crowds and high class atmosphere.

Cons: It is a little dark and gets really crowded late night.

Called Drake.. and NOTHING! YAPP.. I guess they assume ppl are too drunk to remember the amount of money the spent!

I DON'T KNOW WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS TALKING ABOUT WITH LEAVING ALL THESE BAD COMMENTS, BUT THIS PLACE WAS A BLAST! THERE WAS NO LINE OUT FRONT. DRINK SERVICE WAS VERY EFFICENT AND QUICK. THE MUSIC HAD A GREAT MIX FROM BRITNEY SPEARS TO CYPRESS HILL. OUR GROUP ENJOYED THIS PLACE TILL CLOSING!!

If only I could give it half a star. First off, I've been invited here twice and have had no problem getting in. Of course I was told of the dress code in advance and I went prepared: dress shoes, clean jeans, and a snug fitting shirt. The way I tell guys is, just dress a little a little metro and you won't have a prob with the bouncer. I'm pretty much a straight up dude but I just make sure I dress the part to avoid the nonsense at the door. Also, I never rolled in with other guys, always with hot looking girls. That's a pretty sure way to avoid the long lines and there's no need to tip nobody at the door. I'll leave that for the little rich kids. With that said, I got in and after about 15 mins, I wanted to leave. The music is HORRIBLE. And, I jam to anything from classical, grunge, hip hop and even Spanish music. I've heard better DJ's at b-day parties at local parks. Drink svc is decent. If you want faster service, just put your cute looking gal friend up at the bar and she'll get the bartenders attention faster than any regular guy can. And this of course at any bar. The people there weren't surprisingly good looking. The girls I saw were all ether 5 & 6's. There could have been maybe... one 8.5 but that's pushing it. The one thing that really did it for me was the fact that the 2nd time I went, there were two boneheads smoking in the place. One knucklehead was puffing on a freaking cuban-sized cigar. And let it be known that I hate smoking indoors. Leave that for the outdoor patios. I of course went to a club employee and pointed those chimney heads out. The fact that I had to go track down a staff person to get these people to stop smoking annoyed me. But what annoys me more is them smoking inside in the first place. Yeah, I could have told them myself, but the establishment needs to take of this on their own. I'm not on the payroll. In summary: bad music, average people, smoking incident, and generally bland ambiance. Needless to say I won't be going again.

Be forewarned...do not go to this establishment...

The people here obviously single you out based on the skin of your color. I have heard many of my friends tell me in the past, but i wanted to check Drake out before I made judgements of my own. Let me tell you, they were not joking at the apparent racis m is rampant. I went with a group of 2 girls and 2 guys at 10, since I heard it was hard to get in. There was no line and all of my friends got in, when its finally my turn, the bouncer gives me this lame excuse, "you do not look like your id, do you have any other id with a picture and birthdate". I just laugh to myself when I heard this. Do you think anyone carries a passport around going to a club?

The funny part was as we were standing and waiting for my other friends, I see a group of minorities walk up to the same bouncer. He gives the same line, but these people were obviously prepared, they had their passports!! Yet, I could tell the bouncer was coming up with another list of long excuses...they didnt get in either AND this was at 10PM.

I have never experienced anything negative towards me until this experience...I repeat...DO NOT GO!!! There are plenty of other places that will gladly accept my cash

OK, the first time I went to Drake I couldn't get in. MY MISTAKE was that I thought it was like any other typical club so I stroll over there around 11ish and waited for an hour. I finally left. The following weekend I went back and got there at 9:45ish and got it. Well folks, it's NOT your typical club. It IS classy and mature. Don't get me wrong....it gets wild too!!! I absolutely love Drake. I have gone on nights when I got in and nights when I didn't. Are you crazy? We NEED CLUBS LIKE THIS IN HOUSTON! In LA and NY they have clubs like this where selected people get in. If you want in, then DRESS appropriately. I'm not a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal so I'm ok with dressing up. If that's what you want then hang out at Sam's Boat! I have however seen girls in jeans and nice blouses but c'mon. Give them a break. I wish more clubs were like this. We should complete with the clubs of LA & NY. Afterall, we are the 3rd/4th largest city in the US! If you don't like classy places where professionals can dress up and still get wild then go somewhere else!

Alright so first off the only reason people write bad reviews on here is probably because they didnt get in. Reason why they didn't get in.. maybe because they didn't follow the dress code or are under age. And they do let Black people in (why do people say that they dont??) but you can't be dressed like trash. It is a high class and very respectable place. They have great music, great drinks (you get your moneys worth) the service there is incredible concidering how packed it gets. The owners are always there and always very friendly! All in all the club is beautiful, classy and alot of fun. Just remember they are strict on age and dress code but not to turn you away, only to maintain such a high standard. It is definitely "THE" place to go on the weekends preferably on Saturdays ;)
dress code for guys:
no hats
no shorts
no tennis shoes or (sean johns or whatever)
dress like you were going to a cocktail Dinner
no ripped jeans like from Hollister
shirts like Affliction and stuff are okay :)

ok. I believe people dress to the nines and there will always be that one minority in your group that WON'T be able to get in. My friends are a good group of looking people, and the birthday boy couldn't get in. He was dressed nice (because it WAS his birthday), but Drake asked for a second form of ID. Needless to say, 6 of us had to leave Drake to go somewhere else. They lost about $300 that night because my friends can drink. I will NEVER support a place where racism comes into play, even though it's not to me directly. Wake up, Drake. This is Houston... no one likes to go to a club where everyone looks the same.

Ok, enough with the bad reviews from people offended by the Hollywood wannabees. Let's face it. Clubbing in Houston is really hit-or-miss. Good clubs with a great vibe do not stay that way for long, hell, large parts of this city weren't able to stay nice for very long. Every time I find a club that has well dressed patrons, a great DJ, and a high energy vibe it closes down.

The Drake is NOT full of beautiful people. There are some in there, but most of the people look like normal folks that are just dressed up. I prefer to dress nice when I go out. Does anyone have a f***** problem with that? Would it be ok with the rest of you birkenstock wearing Obama voters if I go out with my wife, dressed to the 9's and sip coctails with other similarly dressed individuals? Really, is there something inherently wrong, evil, or rude with that? Different places require different dress, and some folks like to be around people who resemble themselves. This is not raci$t, it's fundamental human sociology. Every bar doesn't have to be Polyester's, Coco-Loco, or the Proletariat.

Just because YOU don't fit in and feel self conscious, does not mean that WE are all jerks... We're just jerks when we're drunk.

Pros: Loud music from good DJ, most everyone dressed nice, Brent (upstairs bartender) rocks the filthy dirty Gin Martinis, decent decor.

Cons: Long line, gets too packed to move, still this place isn't as cool as clubs in some other international cities.

We were with a party who had reservations. They let the first half in and made the rest of us wait almost 1/2 hour to get in. There were stupid people literally handing over $50 bills to the gay bouncer, in attempts to try to buy their way in. After I was in, I couldn't help but laugh at the fake idiots inside. These people thought they were in Beverly Hills! The way they were acting, like "look at me, I wear a Rolex". I mean super fake, shallow and so hidious. The men looked extremely retarded with their spikey hair and tight shirts. UGH, that was the first and LAST time I ever waste my time there. It's all a show!

I just got back from a night at Drake, and while I had a decent time, my friends and I were walking back to our friend's car, and someone had thrown a rock through the window, opened the trunk from the inside, and stole my purse. When we pulled in, some guy asked for $4 for parking and I saw him talk with some other parking guys who worked for Drake, so I assumed he was legit. I guess I was wrong. I just don't understand how a car can get broken in to at the front of the club, with 2 parking people hired by the club, 2 cops, etc and nobody notices. Make sure you never take anything valuable with you here, because the security sux a$$ and you will lose everything.

I am from the West Coast (California), and have been on diff continents to party, and in all the big cities of this country (NY, LA, SF, Miami, Denver, Austin, Chicago, Vegas, etc.). NOT sure what this place thinks it has over any other in Houston. I've been let in, and also not let in. Seems depdt on what company I keep and when. I only go there if I have friends already inside & they want to meet up. However, even once when the dudes that were already inside came out to grab us girls at the door (we were in front of line w/ only 3 behind us, so not a "line" problem), the doormen refused with diff excuses depending on when & who in the group asked. I would NEVER support a place that treats anyone unfairly - whether I am personally affected or NOT. (It's called integrity.) There aren't any celebs in here - and I'm not sure any celebs would want to visit a place that has SUCH bad reviews and negative publicity. And, the only other place in Houston that has the same door policy is Red Door - funny, owned by the same people. Trendy? More like Stepford Wives Club. No personality b/c everyone is trying TOO hard to be like the next person. My guess is that the people who like it have never been outside the city of Houston. My money is better spent - and I have plenty to spend - at places where you might actually meet an INTERESTING person, instead of a place where everyone is chasing the same pose. Ridic. Maybe if there was live music, or a celebrity or 2, or good music, or ANYTHING else ?? A "door policy" does not a club make!

So me and my girlfriend went to this club and he the doorman was very rude and would not allow my grilfriend in. I was a bit appauled to the level and severity of the drunkardness of the people that left this place. Two girls got into the car and ran over the vallet signs and drove on the sidewalk, however the police that were there did nothing. All I could see where you regular yuppies there was no diversity in the crowd. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I am all about trendy spots, but really you have to allow some diversity in your group.

I have been multiple time to Drake since it has opened it's doors last year and enjoyed every moment. The interior is gorgeous and a step up to the Midtown/Village scene. Yes, the dress code is strict, but it has to be. Guys, you can't expect to get in wearing t-shirts (I don't care if it says Armani) and tennis shoes. If the girls are all dressed up, you should be too. My boyfriend always wears a suit jacket and dress shoes. The owners want the best people inside to keep people coming back which I don't think is biased by any means and I am proof. The ambience keeps the drinks flowing and the line forming. See you at The Drake!

IF UR NOT WHITE DONT GO... i have some friends whom are not white but are very well off.... they were not allowed in the bar saying he was not " DRESSED" correctly .. (if a black Armani shirt isn't enough what the hell can you wear) they then said he needed another form of ID. The entire night was a mess... We had money to spend but treated as though they had nothing. I have not been back since. i would encourage other to never return

I went to the Drake on a Saturday night and it definitely left something to be desired. I can understand their policy on no tennis shoes, but they would benefit more from a policy that outlawed wannabe macho men in their hideous embellished shirts and spiky hair. It felt eerily like a bouncer convention inside with music so loud you had to scream to talk and barely enough room to move around. If this is all you've got Houston, send me back to LA.

This place is a joke. My girlfriends and I went here one night and the eldest of our group, who by the way is a mother of 3 (but looks amazing), was told that she didn't look at least 21. Are you kidding me? The whole "can I see a second form of a photo identification" is the stupidest BS I've ever heard of in my life. Why yes, I happen to have my passport right here in my bra....I always carry it around when I go to a club. Oh, actually, I am 30-something years old but I think I keep my college ID somewhere in my wallet still. Seriously, if they are going to reject someone because of their skin color, at least come up with an excuse that is convincing. My girlfriends and I are regulars to the Vegas scene and not only are we treated as VIPs, we are invited and escorted into the clubs by their hosts. For this no-name lounge in HOUSTON (don't get me wrong, I love my hometown, but it's not known for their night life like Vegas) to try to reject people based on the color of their skin or whether or what they wear is so pathetic. You're not NYC, you're not MIAMI, and you sure as hell are not Vegas.

You're not NYC, you're not MIAMI, and you sure as hell are not Vegas.

.

I have frequent the Drake all the time -as it is right down the street from where I live. I have NEVER had a problem getting in, I even forgot my ID in my car one time and I still got in. It's a fun place with a group of ppl, The inside is decorated really neat and its just all around a fun place!!! I agree they should do something about the music, some of it is really good and the other half it's kinda like what the hell are they playing but by the time that happens you are already drunk and having a good time. Lighten up. There are ALWAYS going to be lines- but what ppl don't get is DON"T stand in them I never do- I walk right up to the front and talk to the door guy and get let in. and NO it's not flirting or anything I just walk up show him my ID say im meeting some friends in side and I'm in before the other idiots just standing there for no reason wondering how they are going to get in. Pretty much if you know you are a nobody you aren't getting in. and by the way doorguys have to be JERKS bc ppl actually walk up wearing tennis shoes thinking they are hot "stuff" so they get SHUT DOWN And SHUT OUT. if you aren't trendy don't bother going here and like one of the other reviews said.. you just aren't DRAKE MATERIAL. go hang out at Porch swing or something.

Pros: Trendy, good looking people

Cons: takes a little bit to get a drink

I am fairly new to Houston and heard this was a fun / nice club. I used to go out alone all the time when I was living in San Deigo and San Francisco and was looking forward to a solo night on the town this past Saturday (6/30/2008). Unlike a few of the other reviewers, I was able to get into the club fairly quickly, but I wish I hadn't been admitted, because it just went down-hill from there. The music is awful... I was expecting trance and house... but it is just a bunch of hip-hop and 80's remixes. I do love 80's, but these were NOT good remixes... I could have done better with some of the mult-media app's I have installed on my personal PC. The next thing that happened to me is almost too disgusting to write on here... While attempting to order a drink, this disgusting guy attempted to stick is hand down the front of my jeans. Needless to say, I pushed him away and promptly exited the building and tried to file a complaint with of the door-men. Basically they pretty much told be to F*&^% off. If you are a female and have any self-respect you should run as far as you can away from this place. I actually would not be surprised if half of the women in this place may be escorts.

Pros: None

Cons: Full of perverts and 'could-care-less' management

I don't know what everyone is whining about. I've been to Drake 4 times now, all with different groups (i.e. races) and have never had a problem getting in. Yes, you have to go early, or wait. Yes, sometimes they want another id to verify you aren't 19 and sneaking with a fake id. So what?
I've always had a great time there, bartenders are fabulous and drinks are strong. Stop whining and go someplace else if you aren't Drake-material.

Pros: none

Cons: rude asshol*s and yes they discriminate

Horrible place. I arrived with a party of 4 (my wife and another couple) for a friend's birthday party that was previously arranged with the club mgr and promoter. All of our friends were already inside when we arrived at 11pm. We were told we just had to tell them we were with the party and everything would be cool. Not so...
The door man pulled the "Do you have a 2nd ID" bs with me. (BTW we are Asian but my friends inside were all white). My buddy tried to tip the door man but he wasn't having it. I was ready to asap because I heard they discriminate according to race there but figuring since I'm half white and my wife an other female friend I arrived with are hot and dressed in corsets, it wouldn't matter. WRONG!!
All 20 of my friends inside raised hell, paid for their drinks, left zero tip, called the mgr and door staff what they are and promtly left. We all partied up down the road at Social.

I also like how a hispanic guy pulled up in his new vette with a busty white blond, they let her in but not him. Awsome place, If I could give it a ZERO STAR ranking I would.

Pros: don't even go

Cons: waste of time

After my friends went to The Drake the weekend before, they highly recommended the place to me. I had a whole group of people (7 hot ladies and 3 guys, all late 20s and early 30s) and we were going to have a good time for my birthday. But just as the reviewers before me, the bouncer (I don't give a damn who he is) scanned through all of our ID's but stopped at the last person in our group and told her that she needed to verify her driver's license with a second picture ID, because she didn't look old enough in person. Seriously, what kind of Grade A bull-larkey is that? And as everyone knows, ladies don't carry more than their driver's license and a credit card when going to the club. Yes, we were all Asian, and this was at 10pm, so as to avoid the ridiculous lines and spend some heavy cash at the bar. I won't scream racism though, because nobody hears it anyways. I will whisper it though.

Needless to say, I will personally never go back to this place, because if the idiots don't want me there then fine. But for all those that still want to go, make sure of the following things:
- Go early, or prepare to wait. They'll have pizza later available.
- Bring as many PICTURE IDs as you have. You can't have too many. Seven or eight is recommended.
- Don't go in big groups. Four people per group max.
- Tip the bouncer - because he deserves it. Yeah, right, like I need a third nipple.

Anyways, once you don't get into The Drake, just go to Pandora across the street. And then on the way out, grab a pizza at the valet stand in front of The Drake, because that's the best part of the club.

I have been to the Drake with friends twice. The first time, it was Friday night, pretty early, they let us in and barely glanced at our IDs. Second time, Saturday night, late, they first ignored us and then claimed they needed a "second form of id." My group of friends is predominantly Asian, definitely all ethnic, and I'm sure no one needs me to elaborate on why we were refused. Our group is the kind that dresses to the nines to go out, so it certainly wasn't our clothes.

To give some perspective, we (same group) have been to most of the exclusive clubs in Miami and Vegas and have NEVER had a problem. We also routinely visit the Red Door (a club often mentioned in conjunction with the Drake) and the doorman there lets us in so fast I'm almost certain he never really reads our IDs. One time, in Vegas, somebody PAID us to help get their friend in. This should tell you that it wasn't dress, or looks, or any other excuse that kept us outside the door except for one: our Race.

It's sad that in this day and age, in a metropolitan area the size of Houston, where we routinely mix and mingle with a variety of other ethnicities and cultures, that something like this could still be going on. How could you patronize this place knowing that they routinely bar people from entering based on the color of their skin? How could you, if you are a minority, have so little pride as to go and beg entrance to a club that will happily take your money, then look down on you behind your back?

To give them their due, once you're inside, the place is well-decorated and the bartenders are friendly and polite. But they certainly aren't the only place in Houston that could claim that. If you are a minority, or if there is any part of you that is opposed to racism, let your money and your presence speak up and show them that Houstonians will NOT stand for this. STOP patronizing the Drake."

I am from Dallas and heard that The Drake was a nice Club with a good layout. I had a party of 7 and arrived at 11:00PM. There was a line out the door and what was supposedly called the VIP area, don't even bother. We had told the bouncer "DERECK" we wanted a table and get a bottle, he told us he would check... 15 minutes went by and he had asked us to wait and then for us to split up. Are you kidding me? But if you were white blond and skinny... yes you can get in. My husband tried to tip him...but he raised his hand to not take it... I guess he only wants your money if you are white. I watched DERECK shake hands with several white gentlemen with tips in their inner palm. So tell me if this is not prejudice? I would not waste my time or money where it's not wanted. So, we ended up at BELVEDERS and we were treated like VIPS!

I wouldn?t waste my money and time here. I was out for my friend?s bachelorette party and we?re a group of Asians. Needless to say the d-bag blonde, buzzed cut doorman, Jeremy, pulled the ?I need a second form of ID? stunt on us. There was another bachelorette group also trying to have a great time. They were white but on the plumpy side and Jeremy (d-bag doorman) made them wait while letting in skinny blondes who didn?t even have to wait. Apparently, you not only have to be white but you also have to be skinny to get in.

The Drake sticks to their 90% white and the lucky 10% nonwhite clientele. So if you are not white and skinny and still want to try out the Drake I suggest you get there early (10pm) or bring 3 forms of ID: DL, school ID and your passport. Then let?s see what other creative excuses the d-bag doorman, Jeremy, can come up with to keep you out. Did I mention the doorman?s name is Jeremy? You?ll know the guy once you see him. Hopefully, by knowing his name it'll help some of y'all get in and make help him feel special and popular.

Houston is a multicultural city. Why are people still being subjected to this kind of ?exclusivity? at clubs? It?s ridiculous! It?s just the Drake. There are better and hotter clubs in Vegas, NYC, LA and Miami. And they don?t subject you to this kind of ?exclusivity?.

Drake is a trendy, clean, posh place to chill and mingle. The Mezzanine offers private bottle service and VIP treatment. Although a minimum of $300 per bottle, VERY worth the money for the service and the comfy leather loungers. The vampy, richly colored decor is amazing and in a category of its own from anything else in Houston. The crowd was a little older, a nice change from some of the other places in Houston that will let anyone in. The doormen are more selective as the night goes on, so you better be at your best if you plan to arrive later than 10:30. SUPER nice waitresses and bouncers!! Also, Bartender Dana is the BOMB!!! She knows how to get your drinks fast and Right! Perfect EVERY TIME! Owned by the same people as Red Door, Drake is that type of crowd, but more refined and upscale. If you are looking for great people, a great DJ that is not just playing what is hot RIGHT now and an awesome atmosphere-Drake is the place!!!
