This small building next to Piedmont Park holds a well kept secret: the Silver Grill. Walk in and you'll notice the place is both clean, well-run and relaxed at the same time. This place was a long-run establishment in Atlanta until a couple of years ago when the owners decided to sell the place. Fortunately, someone bought the place and remodeled the inside, and rehired much of the same staff. Want fried chicken? They'll cook it to order. The sweet tea is the best in Atlanta, but watch out for the caffeine. The wait staff is relaxed and will sit down and talk to you, but don't be fooled; the second someone walks in the door they are at your service. I haven't ever seen them score below a 94 on inspections. The mashed potatoes and white gravy are my favourite anywhere. Although they don't have the skins, you can tell that these are homemade mashed potatoes by the rich texture and flavor. On Friday night they have a Catfish special, and although it isn't the best in the world, they're the only ones north of Macon that I've seen do it right. Crispy, flavorful, and not cooked to mush. This place specializes in home-cooked Southern food but they also have a variety of menu items including ice cream and shakes. The location is great, especially if you're attending an event in Piedmont Park. One last thing: the price. It's inexpensive compared to comparable restaurants in Atlanta, such as Mary Mac's, and comes closer to the price of Piccadilly. Definitely check this place out if you like Southern Food.
